You can tell that the author rly likes horror/gore genre both from the descriptions in the novel and from the fact that some of the plots/schemes were a bit over explained. Like, the author clearly really wanted you to get it, which I respected bc some of those descriptions... yucky. I'm new to the genre, so this rly helped a lot LOOOOL

With that being said, I don't think this novel was ever supposed to be super serious. There were a few plot holes im surprised ppl didnt mention specifically because... more>> it drove me NUTS

Spoiler

there was this entire part where MC found out that the orphanage director ML grew up and was abused in was behind a whole bunch of hauntings, but MC never thought to mention it to ml? and ML was specifically isolated and bullied bc ppl associated him with ghosts and bad luck, and a few of MC and mls missions were specifically tied to this person. I felt like the author did forget that they had previously revealed it bc it was mentioned and was tied up later mls parents (who were associated with the hauntings as well) admitted to being in contact with the orphanage director, but the entire time I was so stressed waiting for MC to bring it up... only for him to completely forget about it, apparently (?)

[collapse]

Something that also always drives me crazy is the whole "straight uke/seme" tags in gay novels, but it particularly enraged me in this case, mostly bc I feel like MC rly resonated with me though I cant exactly remember why. like, ig I cheated on an "am I gay" test when I was 13, so its not like I havent been there, but I know that the author truly means for MC to be straight which like, this guy? be serious.

Finally, another reviewer already mentioned this, but I dont love how ML explicitly falls in love with MC bc MC was the first person to be nice to him. ML doesn't really make any other friends either, so once I noticed, it was a little hard to stop. I think I would have preferred it if ML did at least make friends so that he could tell the difference. furthermore, I occasionally felt like he was a little too cookie-cutter perfect lover. hes handsome, a genius in school and in mystery solving, has the skill and ability to physically fight off monsters, is quite possibly the most powerful human that can wield supernatural items, meticulously takes care of MC, and hes a top. too much of a fantasy

despite everything ive said though, this genuinely is my current fave novel. whenever I see it updated, I save it for last so that I can savour it, and in terms of enjoyability its a def 10/10, and its probably gonna go down as my fave novel <<less

I created an account here just to gush about how much I love this novel

Ngl im up at chapter 90 so far and I just started reading this 3 days ago

usually id get tired or a bit bored at this point but still continue, its only after reading this novel did I get invested the whole way and not once wavered. Every day after id sleep, id think about when I can continue reading this wonderful novel so I was a bit startled lmaoo

something about the way the story's structured... more>> about the ghost events and the budding relationship between Mingxia and Yu Ning just keeps you HOOKED

about the characters:

This is the first time i've actively fallen in love with BOTH the MC and ML...

MC is not overpowered but that just makes u root for him and become even prouder when he does things correctly!

ML may be strong and has the general 'protagonist halo' but it works for him and never once felt over the top. You see how he thinks so it just feels natural and really feels genuinely badass.

I also expected Yu Ning to u know-- be a bit TOO MUCH in terms of the possessiveness but so far, not once did he ever go beyond Minxia's boundaries. AND SOMEHOW HE'S BECOME THE BEST ML IVE READ ABOUT AND IM SO UPSET THERE ISNT MORE MLS LIKE HIM

the perfect balance of 'i can kill you' and 'i will never hurt you', , , thats what im looking for folks PLEASEEE

i do admit that id like to see more scenes of Yu Ning falling even further in love with Mingxia... bcuz while I do think its totally normal and even understandable to fall in love with someone just for being nice to u, itd be nice if the novel shows what parts of Mingxia he loves and vice versa with Mingxia
ahem, as for the plot-- ITS GOOD so good. The pace may sometimes feel slow but in the end I think it pays off. The plot is interconnected so it creates this expanding world, especially about this mysterious man with the mysterious items.

The side characters so far are also decent enough, they dont get nearly as much screentime as the main cast but they get the job done heh

Its just so fun to read and I think people should give this novel a chance hehe <<less

Omgsh, this one was such a great read. It didn't disappoint and I'm happy for the happy ending.

I'm not one usually for dog blood drama romance, but I did lowkey wished for this one few times. Lmao all the "triangle" love were actually short lived and there really is no competition at all.

The plot of the story was actually pretty good. I won't lie, I did started skimming towards the end, but I didn't completely skipped either. One of the most wonderful thing about this novel is how lots of... more>> loops are reconnected again and comes back full circle. It felt complete. I was so used to reading stories where the author introduced certain characters, but they had zero contribution to the story or wanted to implement certain plot ideas into the story, but then gets dismissed later and it makes the story feel like it had fillers just to make it seem like it has a lot of chapters. This novel didn't have those flaws. Each character, significant or not, has their own role and their role, even if small, helps contribute to the story and the main characters. Another thing I usually am huge on was character development. This story didn't have any, if any at all, but it was fine. The characters didn't have flaws or if they did, the flaws were valid enough to humanized and validate their actions in the story, so no complaints there.

Overall, this was a good read. It will be memorable for a long while too.

And omgsh, my favorite scene. So cute, so flirty, yet so cheesy too. Lmao

Spoiler

"Good for you Yu Ning, you've learned to take advantage of me so quickly." Ji Mingxia laughed.

Yu Ning looked at him and slowly moved closer, "I have an advantage too, do you want to take it?"

Guys you won't regret it.

I dunno what's wrong with the rating that says 5 but there are only 4 stars shaded and the 5th one is just a scratch shade when in fact its 6 stars.

Spoiler

I am so drawn to the story that I'm feeling the theme of the chapter.

If its horror, its so creepy you will find urself putting a hand below the line just to mitigate being spook out cuz first few chapters I just read it normally and soon regretted it cuz the description is so printed in my mind and I'm in my bedroom alone and lights out so I have to go out and fetch my lamp from my study room. That's how terrifying it is and ur comfort is knowing ur in ur bedroom safe while the characters go running around.

If there is like a villain arc, naturally u will get pissed by them but in this story I actually punch my pillow or stop reading for awhile to compose myself

If its a sweet moment, sometimes u wont like how dense the character is, but MC is so okay and its even a charm in this plot. I like how the drama is not that long and was smoothly resolved.

There are still so many to say but I would rather have u get thru with it and u'll understand what I mean. I like how it is sometimes predictabltoo

The title btw is not only literally meant in romance as how it is usually connected too like ML being jealous and possessive but the general plot itself.

Overall: a must read. I dunno if its ur toppings but its so my taste.

This novel took me by surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it but before I start gushing, I'll give a fair warning for things that I personally don't mind but might bother other readers. The translation at times was clunky and I felt like there should have been more translator notes explaining things. It's likely the translation is mlt edited which I have no problem with I personally like to go in with that context to know what to expect what I'm getting from the writing if it is mlt edited. Now... more>> for the story itself, the pacing at times is a little off and there are chunks of explaining why something happened after it happened. The overall plot is not complicated or extravagant, and at times some things feel like the need to get pushed along.

The Couple:
Now with that out of the way, I'm here to gush. This novel had me putting my phone down and grinning like a mad man, or sometimes rolling around in exasperation. I loved the MC and ML's dynamic, their way of caring or each other was so palpable. The MC is rather average in intelligence and sometimes blinded by the 'foresight' his position as a reader of the novel has given him. One thing I loved about him was his unwillingness to see others take advantage of the ML. His advocating for the ML melted my heart, even though the ML didn't need it you could see how someone caring about him seeing good in him lit him up.

A perfect example of this was close to the end when
Spoiler

Yu Ning's parents wanted to use him to heal his brother, and Ji Mingxia wasn't having it

[collapse]
I was so happy how he went off, it was so gratifying to see him have absolutely none of their bs.

Another thing about their dynamic I found so fascinating was how their feelings developed early. While initially the MC was resolute on his sexuality being straight his realization of his feelings for the ML was perfect but also bittersweet as his role in the original story was to clue in the story's protagonist and love interest about their feelings for each other. I also love how the ML "finds" out the MC likes him before MC actually develops feelings. It makes for a fun layer to their dynamic and an interesting perspective of where the ML is interpreting the way the MC protects and looks out for him with that information.

Scenes that had me putting my phone down to calm down:

The World and Plot:
The mystery kept me intrigued even at times when the novel slowed a bit. Exposition occasionally was tedious but some points I really enjoyed the explanations and how they changed how I saw the scenes before them. It was never enough for me to get bored, even when I did skim a little to get to what interested me more. The horror on some arcs was stronger than others (ehem when they were stuck in the forest). I appreciated the growth of the main character as he encountered more terrifying things and how he put a brave face on haha. I also think the eventual cohesion of the story to be satisfying. You will likely like it too if you enjoyed the novel Transmigrating Into The Heartthrob's Cannon-fodder Childhood Friend. The mystery objects and their role fascinated me, the foreshadowing made me always keep an eye out for them.

Overall, I thought the story was entertaining, I enjoyed the mystery of it, the MC & ML's relationship, and found the it was worth reading (I've struggled through 100+ chapters since my reading slump but had no issue with this one). It may not be the most technically proficient, but it hits the right spot as an entertaining and enjoyable novel. <<less

This is definitely one of the better novels that I have read. Romance was paced normally, and MC realized that he fell in love with ML a lot sooner than most transmigration series with similar romance plots that I’ve read. It was also very refreshing that even though the MC was pretty reticent in face of the plot, ML was having none of that and made the moves first, even if it was to trick MC into it.

Horror was pretty good. I usually don’t read horror outside of a zombie... more>> apocalypse novel, but the plot and writing was good enough that it kept me hooked, even if I had to keep the tv on at night.

I read some comments that MC was slow witted, and I don’t agree. MC is normal, he’s emotionally smart more then anything, while ML is a genius so the contrast can make him look a little slow witted, but his smarts really shine when MC has his own arc without the ML. <<less

Oops, I meant to rate this a 4/5.

This novel is a weird combination of school life, horror, and mystery. The MC is transmigrated into a novel, but his very existence holds a lot more weight than he thinks. It's teeming with tropes that aren't exactly original, and you could argue that the HE is rushed like other reviewers have said. The ending just wasn't very satisfying. This is also slow burn to be max, so that doesn't really help its case. Going into this novel, I was expecting things... more>> to be a bit more... romantic? If that makes any sense at all. The romance itself is quite pure. At the start, they love each other but hide their feelings. The ML (Yu Ning) is cold, asocial, was traumatized as a child, but all of a sudden, our newly transmigrated Ji Mingxia (protag) comes barreling in like a beacon of light. There's these series of supernatural incidents that the leads encounter. They are the "action" in the story. The "terrifying" descriptions missed the mark for me. They're pretty interesting as they make up a majority of the story's plot, but I think I would go as far as to say the romance was almost a subplot. The MC and the ML are willing to sacrifice themselves for each other, yada yada yada. This itself is a decent novel with fluffy romance and at least semi-interesting side characters. Together, it all tells a somewhat cohesive story where the MC and ML are likable in that you, the reader, want to wish for their happiness. Has its fair share of funny moments and even questionable ones. *cough* The ML near the end of the story. Still pretty cliché, though. Good time waster. Kudos to the translator. I rest my case. <<less

Quite a nice read, 3.5/5.0. Not the best read, but fun and satisfying, with quite good horror inside. Close to no drama.

The world build and plot are a bit complicated. Can't say it's without holes, but all is explained closer to the end. So, most of the questions will be answered.

About the plot, I've guessed some parts early on, but it's still okay. And there was several plot twists I was not expecting. Mostly dissatisfied with the quick ending and resolve of everything, and no extras to heal readers heart... more>> after the finale. But don't worry it's a HE, quite a bit thrilling in the end.

I should say, it's a slow romance with not much of dog food. I really wanted more of it. We are mostly concentrated on the plot. It was quite long in the beginning but many events where put together for quick end. I really need more of the main couple. There were some hot moments, and fun situations. Really like how ML plotted MC into being honest. The main couple is quite good. I could feel that they are not flat, but have different sides, and even had some development on both sided. And yes, they are match main in heaven. Really worthy of each other with opposite characters. Each had their own strengths and fill other side gaps. How cute out MC was hiding behind, but going forward and shielding ML when he needed it. So cuuute! Aww.

Also, I've read some horror previously, but in this book it's was really scary. Oh my, I even had issues sleeping at night. But satisfying.

In general, quite nice read. Recommend you to try. <<less

Plot: A solid 8/10. The suspense was enjoyable and the horror scenarios were pretty creative. The gong is missing like half the time though when it really counts so I lowered my score.

Characters: 5/10
They are likeable but really really one dimensional.

Romance: 6/10

The gong’s efforts are enjoyable and the shou’s obliviousness is pretty cute!

Spoiler

However, the shou can’t accept the fact that he’s a shou and always goes on and on about the fact that the story is going off track and tries getting the gong with other people. It wasn’t pleasant to read.

[collapse]

Overall, I probably wouldn’t read again but it’s a good break if you’re currently reading any longer stories. Mindless fluff and 1D Characters.

I liked this quite a bit!

Enjoyed the horror element although I think some deaths were unnecessary...

I enjoyed MC's character, not as I Am Straight Man as most transmigration MCs.

Some side characters annoyed me but mainly because I liked MC and the side characters did not treat him right >: (

Don't You Like Me meets transmigration

It's a good novel. I didn't look at the tags when picking it up, so consider me surprised when I saw that there were horror elements. MC transmigrates into a side character from a novel, tries to get the book protagonist—who's the "ultimate shou"—his happy ending, but flop. It's not a new formula; this just so happens to be spoopy! But I really did enjoy reading it. I thought the horror elements were really nasty—which is a good thing for its genre. I do regret... more>> reading most of it at night before bed. The foreshadowing wasn't that bad, the romance buildup was believable, but the ending could have been paced better. That's just my nitpick. Side characters weren't that memorable; the story revolves around MC & ML.

Totally Such a Wild Ride of Novel!!! It has such Amazing Plot!!!

And far different from the Summary...

In the beginning of the first arc I though it would be just about Ghost Horror Novel, but since the end of the first arc we already introduced to the Mysterious Items things.

... more>> And then the second arcs. We get the sense of Horror of Mysterious feelings and Monster/Weird Creature thing.

But the way the Author wrote the story doesn't make us feel the scenario was Out of the World or Out of Theme. It was still Interesting even Intriguing!

The whole Mysterious items sure does make it slightly Fantasy Supernatural feel, but the Horror never leave the story!

Anyway it was so much different from what I expected but in Good way!

Now let's talk about the Characters. Especially our MC.

In the beginning MC felt slightly act like a Damsel in Distress. But it's normal because he's an Ordinary human being who suddenly can see Ghost since Transmigrated! He's scared and confused. But he still chose to be nice to ML without the intention of ML knowing about it. Of course... That failed so fast. Classic ~

Anyway, MC's character growth was Splendid! While he's no Genius, he can use his brain. He's no Badass, but also not Coward. And he's no Reckless!

And he's equally Protective toward ML too!

Then the final final arc... ML's dedication and Love... Aiihh... Better no Spoiler...

The point is this Novel is Soooo much Better than Expected and the Ending was a Relief and Satisfactory!!! I'm Truly So Happy I want to cry!!! <<less

I love it!

I love how the MC transformed from being a side character to a truly, badass main character.

... more>> The only con for me is...

I feel that this story has a lot of filler especially in the beginning so I was kinda uninterested in continuing to read the novel (but I’m glad I pushed through!!).

What I mean by filler is that... for example, the story will talk about a scene on MC’s point of view and then maybe the next chapter, the same scene will be described but in another character’s pov

Anywhooo, I especially loved the second part of this novel, so even if you feel dreadful continuing reading at times...

I highly recommend that you push through and finish this novel! <<less

Overall it's a good read, though I think the MC and ML were a little too OP so it wasn't as exciting of a horror genre as it could be.

There's some interesting setups and plots (different types of supernatural occurences), but I guess I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop the whole time so I didn't get that engrossed in the various supernatural plots.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I think some of parts of the story were a bit disappointing

Spoiler

For example, the MC created a whole story in the head that the government institute would probably experiment on Yu Ning, it ended up actually happening. Yu Ning got experimented on and tortured for months in the lab and almost couldn't leave....

I guess it's just a bit boring how there weren't really surprises in the plot points.

Also the OG ML had a super tiny role in the story in general. Which isn't bad, but kind of a letdown because the MC had expected him to be super important for so long lmao

[collapse]

I think for the most part, the pacing fell flat to me and it wasn't as much of a page-turning as I was expecting.

Translation was pretty good, just a couple mistakes here and there.

Spoiler

For example, "wo qu" (literally "I'll go-") is actually slang for "wtf" or something someone would say in a disbelieving situation. So usually people use it when they're shocked by the situation, like "the heck?!" Not literally, "I'll go somewhere"

4 ⭐️. It's kinda fun filled horror genre. MC is cute but very dense, ML lol poor thing try to win MC is really a great task. Overall the world building is good but there's a bit of plot holes and some inconsistencies. And the face slapping really glossing over. So I am abit unsatisfactory with those. The romance is kinda slow but its sweet. Good short read. Thank you

This was truly an enjoyable story from start to finish. This translator is excellent! This is well worth taking a look at if you like both great obsessive romance and horror themes. Don't let the horror scare you off if you are squeamish. There are definitely spooky moments and creepy experiences, but this is what I'd rate as horror-lite. It might disappoint someone expecting serious danger and extreme scenes, but be aware there is darkness here as well thematically. It just never felt like with as OP as the characters... more>> are that it would ever end badly. Fantastic story. Give it a chance! <<less
