Novel absolutely not recommended to read.

The summary is a blatant lie.

MC is a s*upid girl from the Yuan family who dreamt that everyone died. Her IQ is so low that she can't recognize that ML Lu guy and Xu guy are the same person for THE ENTIRE TIME despite getting married to Lu guy and even him getting injured at the same time. Her only idea is to "betray female hue" or try and seduce a man lol. Even with all the knowledge she had, she at no point plans... more>> on either self-improvement or investigation. Halfway through the novel she's just playing around despite author claiming she's tormented by possibly losing her family.

Most of the novel is the MC being s*upid and clumsy and the ML teasing her. It begins with MC trying to seduce ML who mocked her to "save her family" which she isn't even smart enough to warn her family about until later. After which, it turns out she was completely and utterly useless and only by Plot Armor luck is Lu ML tempted by her and decides to save her family.

There is very little of any good or memorable moments in the novel and 95% is MC being easily played around by ML as she is lacking in IQ. Author attempts to make the novel more interesting by having MC have an army backstory and loyal servants but for the most part MC is just a useless tr*sh damsel in distress. Not once but several times is she harassed or assassinated and has no way to get revenge. She's entirely reliant on the ML and her only contribution was to ruin another s*upid reborn girl's life lol.

The sick scumbag old emperor also lives a merry life doing his wicked deeds. There's basically no satisfying retribution for the villains of the novel, and the author loves to pause the plot with dumb filler. The whole blank space between ML proposing marriage and the actual marriage is a boring mess.

I'm surprised that this novel was rated low. This might not be a very thrilling nor perfect story among historical ones but it is still a good read. The ML is not an as*hole nor abusive and the FL is not a mary sue nor OP just because she have those 'dreams.' Why not give those same energy by rating low to some novel that deserves it? Lol.

Anyway, to that specific reviewer, I think they don't have enough reading comprehension while reading the novel. I don't normally leave reviews but... more>> I felt the need to leave one here bc it'll be a lost if readers get discourage to read this just bc of low reviews.

< Long review ahead >

Based on the synopsis FL basically have those dreams of her past life but despite this golden finger, she is not all knowing bc
Spoiler

she only have those dreams one at a time. It's only triggered when one of those events in her past life is about to happen. So, even if she wants to immediately save her family from their doom, she can only take one step at a time.

[collapse]

This is when the ML enter the picture. The FL only knows he'll be a powerful official in the future thus she chose him as their backer and to avoid marrying the 6th Prince and bring her family's doom, not knowing
Spoiler

that he has another hidden identity, that is 6th Prince, Zheng Zhuo's, advisor and friend. It didn't cut off her connection with the prince but boarded the same ship as him.

[collapse]

Just like I said, the FL is not all-knowing despite her golden finger and being 'reincarnated.' Although indeed she has a military background and a military father, it is worth mentioning that she is not trained the same as a soldier, even the ML is aware of it. She can only do what she can that is use her brain and her golden finger, this is why she finds a backer, the ML, to rely on. This is the use of ML to her (at the start).

And for that reviewer that questioned how she can't recognized that the ML and
Spoiler

Mr. Xu is one person, it was mentioned how the ML is smart in hiding his identity bc if he's not, then the other court officials and princes should've caught him already. It was mentioned how he only wear wide robes to hide his body figure, wear mask that even the shape of his eyes and mouth can't be seen, even the way he speak is different. It's also mentioned multiple times how the FL almost caught his secret identity so close many times, but the ML can hide it so well bc he has two identities that is both close to her so he can immediately plan ahead of how to deceive her.

[collapse]
I really suspects that that reviewer has low reading comprehension.

In terms of communication in their relationship, at the start it's hard to communicate bc both of them have their own secrets that they keep and both are always suspicious of the one anothers intentions. But when they can finally be honest with each other, there's never misunderstanding from then on. I love how the FL was never a hypocrite when she finally knows the truth abt the ML bc she's aware even she have her own intentions and secrets, so in what place can she hate him?

Aside from FL who often dreams of her past there is also one person that is
Spoiler

reincarnated. But unlike the FL who only dream of it, Princess Shaohe really reincarnated when she fell on that bridge. But even with this, just like the FL, she's not all-knowing bc she she secluded herself in her later years and only receive reports abt the ML. I quite pity this character. Shaohe wasn't a bad person, she only lives in a society that bound the females to have no choice but to submit. I wanna hate her for what happened to the 6th Prince but just like how the FL can't do so bc she also have her own hardships when she married that bastard crown prince. She was forced. But she's still fortunate bc she's still alive, much fortunate than Zheng Zhuo.

[collapse]

This story is a light read and a funny one. I like how shameless the FL is when she chase after the ML. And I like how the ML is always the one who's embarrased specially on their first and second meeting lol. It's refreshing to see bc most of the time it's the FL who's always on an embarassing side. But when he fianlly realized that he was caught and have fallen into her trap, I like how he shamelessly but lowkey, lead the FL into his own trap bc he doesn't want to be the only one who falls, that's how petty he is lmao. Her family, the ML's family, and almost all the characters beside the antagonists, have their happy endings.

But at the same time, for me, this novel is bittersweet. It has a HE and a funny read but towards the end.. It just caught me off guard I wasn't able to breathe. There was this character that I misunderstood and was always suspicious of alongside the FL. But who would have thought that
Spoiler

I would cry my eyes out for him. The 6th Prince, Zheng Zhuo, never betrayed the FL's family. Contrarily, he tried his very best to save them but unfortunately failed. Damn that FL's sister in law. I cried for his story bc he's a really good person and would've been a good emperor. He's full of ambition for his country and the people. It's just sad that be it past or present life, he wasn't able to ascend. It felt like all his blood, sweat and, tears ended up in nothing but alas, this is how it's like when fighting for the throne. I'm sad bc he didn't get a happy ending in both of his lives, both of his lives ended up as a tragedy. It would've been great if he survived, the 13th Prince wouldn't have to be force to grow up. The trio; him, the FL & ML, we failed to protect their friendship. Until the very end, before his death and after his death, the only one on his mind was his country. Before his final breath, when he suddenly see the three of them playing wumu in his past life, I'd like to believe that that memory must've been an important and happy one for him to see. It's sad to see that when everyone was reunited at the end, there's only him who was missing. He failed to see the peaceful and prosperous country he wished to build.

[collapse]

Nonetheless, it is a good read if you're out of novels to read. I hope you won't get discourage to read this just bc of low reviews. <<less

I'm at chapter 35 and the best description so far for this novel would be : a very light, opposites attract, childish romance, sprinkled with a good dose of hilarious moments which made me chuckle out loud.

There's very little plot though. Everything seems to revolve around the budding romance and their bickering. I just wished there was more, and that the MC was just a bit smarter. Oh, and there's a few "hot and bothered scenes" which for historical romances is soooo rare and *cough* appreciated*cough*. For this dreary winter... more>> morning, it felt like a nice little mood booster :)

Also, the translation is really nice so kudos for that!

Actual rating: 3 stars (a decent but no-brainer novels)

5 stars rating to balance out the 1 stars. <<less

I really wish I hadn't read the low rating reviews before I started the novel. For the first half of the novel, I kept expecting bad writing and for the FL to really mess up in some way because of that bad review but after the midway point, I finally dismissed the bad review as incorrect and fully enjoyed the novel. I suspect the bad review might be based on MTL or something, and I'll touch on that at the end of the review.

The novel does have political intrigue in... more>> the fight for the throne and a fight between countries, but it's also centered around the FL and ML's romance. It is very humorous so among the serious plotting happening, there is a lot of comedy and funny sidestories. If you like secret identity as a trope, you will love this story. It's present for more than half of the story and executed in clever and funny ways.

The FL and ML have amazing tacit understanding between them but are also very different people. I really like how different and nuanced their characters are, plus how different they are from the usual types of FL and ML. The writer took the usual trope of the ML having 'cleanliness obsession' to the next level, making him almost ridiculous at times in a way that is funny but also touching (when related to certain plot points). And I like that it doesn't just vanish when convenient. The FL is very smart when it comes to intrigues and unravelling schemes, but is reckless in the heat of the moment, sometimes in ways that work, and sometimes in ways that don't. It's the same for ML's schemes, they don't always work as well. Actually, I think the FL and ML are really good at blocking each other in the early parts of the novel, in funny ways.

Their romance was gradual. There was no suddenly falling in love, and there's growing exasperated fondness that eventually turns into love between the two of them. The exasperated fondness never fades because they're really different people but really compatible at the same time. Especially in the early parts of the novel, there's a lot of ridiculous but funny comedic scenes between them, where there are no real winners or losers. The FL is amazingly shameless in the journey to save her family and reach her goals, which I find funny and admirable at the same time, considering how much weight was put on women's reputation back then.

As for the negative reviews, I'm baffled. I just don't feel like we read the same novel. We're shown how smart the FL is time and time again in the novel. She figures things out even with the incredibly limited knowledge that she has, and she takes direct action. Yes, she does start pursuing the ML as part of her plot to save her family, but she doesn't just bank on throwing herself at the ML. She works with her brother (who has more freedom to move) in regards to how to navigate the royal family, comes up with counterattacks, sends needed aid and sometimes, even wades into danger herself. She's calm under pressure and stress, as a result of having grown up on the borders with her father (a general) and having spent time in the army (but she isn't some overpowered princess soldier, she has limited actual fighting skills). The things she can't figure out (like ML's secret identity) is really, really well-concealed (more so than most stories with secret identity storylines).

The FL also didn't gaslight anyone. Gaslighting means someone in a position of power messing with the mind of someone within their authority and manipulating them until they question their reality. The FL lies a lot at the start in her goal to save her family but it's the typical political intrigue type of lying and also sometimes, some hilarious shameless lying where she knows he knows she's lying but she's banking on him not being able to call her out on it.

The FL has limited info on her previous life because she only has a few dreams that shows bits of it, most of it when her soul was trapped in a stone so she couldn't even see anything. Even with the very limited info, she does quite a lot with it and I feel she did successfully change the trajectory of her family's life. I don't know why the reviewer said she didn't investigate anything... she spends a good chunk of the book investigating. Even up to the end, she's trying to figure out things based on the little bit of knowledge she had. All villains get their retribution at the end so that review was also misleading in that way.

By the end, I really felt attached to the main characters, including some of the side characters. I felt heartbreak over the side characters. It's the way of the political world when it comes to palace intrigues that not everyone gets a happy ending, and I feel like at least one character knowingly went into their sacrifice with eyes wide open, but it still made me cry. I wish there was a different ending for some of them because they really were such good characters who did so much. But I respect that the writing was good enough to make me feel attached to the side characters and move me as well, even among all the comedy and light-heartedness. <<less

I can't believe the most liked comment on this is a 1 star review. Seriously. I'm surprised because I really enjoyed reading the whole thing. I was laughing where the novel was funny, and felt emotional during the moving part of the story. I especially liked how the romance developed between the two main characters, and felt excited with each development of the couple. I have rated far less novels a 5, and this novel and the translation definitely deserves a 5 in my book.

Read it! Don't get discouraged by... more>> the bad review. <<less

Dropped. I genuinely dislike this MC a bit. It's as if you were to put a modern day asian romcom about a shameless girl chasing a disinterested guy crossed with those Korean transmigration novels where the original female protagonist of the novel was this reckless damsel in distress who wanted to help but also got ppl around her killed or hurt just so the male lead could save her EXCEPT the MC HERE is like that original female protag x shameless chasing girl IN ancient china. A run on sentence... more>> I know. BUT THATS THE MC.

If you have ever read a good ancient china novel, you know for a fact that this does not read the same. The writing is a cross between modern-day written Victorian historical romances x asian modern day romcom x Korean European romance novels. It's a bizarre experience. The writing grips you to begin with but tthen you start to realize "isn't this the stereotypical female lead that all those novel transmigration novels didn't like"?? Lol. Anyways. She's flailing around (with some brain power to be fair) in a complex political plot where the ML has to save her every so often from her own actions. <<less

Definitely recommended!

I wish this story receives more appreciation because it was really beautiful in my opinion. Both the main characters were smart, the chemistry between them is just a chef's kiss with a hint of sweetness and comedy along with the political schemes that was well explained and really made sense unlike what the other novel with politics involve that was quite hard to understand. The FL is not OP but she's not s*upid, she's quite smart to be honest. She was able to connect the dots and pieces despite... more>> the fact that the 'dream' only shows her a portion of the future that was about to happen.

It was also quite understandable that she did not think that the Xu guy is the ML unlike what the one who gave one star there said. The ML was hiding well afterall. From having a different voice, different attitude like a completely different person, covering the injury with makeup, having another person to claim to have the injury (to cover him up) and showing a portion of Xu's face with a disgusting scar which is quite the opposite of the ML (who have a flawless face). Remember, It was dark that night and the FL also wouldn't think that he would put on a disgusting cover because she knew the ML was a clean freak.

And she's a girl living in an ancient era where girls are limited to do what they can. And the only option she have to stop her engagement was to have another man to get engage with. It was already so amazing that she can participate in the political decision making (secretly) through the ML, Zheng Gou and her brother and was able to lead an army only using her brain.

All I can say is, it is worth reading! <<less

At first, I thought it'll be very serious, but it's slightly comedic, especially when the FL and ML were together. I admit that I expected more from the FL. I thought she'll be good at martial arts or whatsoever, but she isn't. However, she's not weak or q damsel in distress. She's actually very smart, just slightly naughty sometimes. She's decisive and not shy at all. The ML is a tsundere. At first, he looks like a serious and prideful court official, but he's actually shameless and sly inside. Pfft... more>> he likes eating vinegar the most (even his own) lol.
Spoiler

But let me tell you!!! Their past life was also heartbreaking huhuhuhu it's so tragic for the both of them, especially for Lu Shi Qing who wasn't even there when the woman he loved died the followed by his best friend. It's really so, so heart wrenching to read that side story tbh. I feel bad for the three of them.

[collapse]

Tbh, the FL is rational but there are also times where she failed to keep her rationality due to emotions
Spoiler

That time when the ML needed to go for peace talk with Nanzhao. She's indeed very selfish at that and I was slightly annoyed, however, it's understandable as we can be selfish when our own interest was at stake, especially if it's our loved one's life.

[collapse]

But the thing that pained me the most is
Spoiler

Zheng Zhuo's death. Like, whyyyy??!! I won't lie. ZZ was my bias wrecker despite not having much interaction with the FL and not much details about him. I don't know, I just like him. And he fckin died! Huhuhuhu and that side story about their past life didn't manage to comfort my wounded heart as well. Rather, it just made me more regretful for his short-lived life. He also said in their past life that he doesn't like YCX very much, however, when I read their past lives, I think he's just comforting LSQ so that the latter won't feel guilty. After all, if he really doesn't like her, why would he want to know her likes? Why would he be heartbroken when he realized that YCX doesn't like him? In short, he also likes her very much but he's also a very loyal friend and doesn't want to make LSQ feel guilty for him.

[collapse]
In short, Zheng Zhuo is my second male lead. I really hope there's a side story about him and he'll be happy in that lifetime because he deserves it.

Just like what I said, it's slightly comedic but the political struggles were always there. And the "rebellion" was really heavy and suffocating. I feel really wronged for Zheng Zhuo and Lu Shi Qing's sacrifices, and at the same time, I admire their friendship and ideals very much.

As for the romance, it's sometimes hilarious, sometimes bordering r19 (too bad it's not that detailed lol), and sometimes sweet. But of all the pairing, I'm actually waiting if there's a sequel which is about Zheng Hong and Yuan Shu.

Overall, it's a good palace drama novel. It's more lax compared to what I just read before this but still, what a palace drama should have has it (e.g., titles, etiquette, traditions, etc.) The translation is not bad too, I just noticed some that were lacking of auxiliary verb like is, are, etc., but aside from that minor detail, the translation is good. It's 9/10 for me. <<less

Don’t let the low rating spoil your impression of this novel! One of the my most most favorites now! The story is so intriguing and fun to read esp the FL and ML interaction, their bickerings are hilarious and will keep you eager for more. The politics plot is also interesting, not a slight bore at all and also easy to follow along. Overall, it was a satisfying read with just the right amount of bittersweet and tons and tons of sweet moments!

I loved this one. I read this novel because I liked the author's other

novels, but this one turned out to be the best.

The protagonists are very clever.

... more>> There was no third party between them.

There was a little focus on politics, but it doesn't get boring or too hard to understand.

The female protagonist is cheeky, playful, bold in so many ways and a very caring person.

The ML is cunning, scheming (in politics), and very gentle with the FL. The kind where he is helpless in front of her.

To sum up, they are very sweet and interesting.

There was also comedy in it, which was very good. I would burst out laughing out of nowhere.

Spoiler

The FL began having dreams about the "future". But it's not like she knew everything. She would sometimes dream of something happening and it would only be on the bridge and she can't move. So what little she knows of the future is from rumors from the common people.

I loved that although due to her dreams they were able to do things differently, there were still things that didn't change, which was mostly not favorable to them.

Ogosh, this novel is so good. Love the plots and both cp character. They may seem op but heck they were fun to read. MC is very straightforward, mischievous and very clever girl. So with only a few gossip from her dream she can almost solve some of her problems. And with the help of the clever ML they really can turn things over. Both CP were super fun characters. They banters and help each other, falls in love and very open with their needs. Lol been along time read... more>> such characters. Theres of course alot of dramas but it’s not written too heavy, the political twist and turn were abit heavy but still author written it simple to understand so you wont get headache from complications. I've skimmed through this novel and I've found that the highly rated bad review is a product of poor reading and contextual knowledge.

    • The MC does not tell her family about impending disaster because they are unreliable and she, as a daughter of the house, has no speaking power. In the tight network of interests and relationships holding the court together, one misstep can cause a chain reaction to destruction. She's a small fry and her opponent is the Emperor, whose every word means law, and a horde of power-mad princes, while the men of her own house have issues of their own. In a situation where MC has no strong allies and very little leverage, it makes sense to be cautious. Even so, unreliable brother was informed in Chapter 19, which I think is ok in a 121-chapter novel.
    • The MC is focuses on seduction because the alliance that she brokers with her marriage is the single most powerful method of rescue that she can build for her clan in a heavily patriarchal society.
    • The MC cannot recognise the ML because, in her precognitive dreams, she is a stone. A literal stone in a bridge. Her impressions are fragmented but we the readers are given more clues.
    • Cruel, sociopathic rulers living and dying well without receiving comeuppance is a reality of history.
This novel is far from perfect. The translation is a bit rocky and the pacing of the story is awkward. MC is young and easily distracted by shinies, a literal entitled princess, apt to tantrums and babble and TERRIBLY irritating; the ML is much put upon by her and her vindictive relatives, and allows her beauty to distract himself from her self-centred, gaslighting behaviours. ML is altogether too soft and helpless; I were this chap, I would let her enemies slit her throat, seal her corpse in a construction site, and torch her family, just for some peace and quiet again.

Even so, in this setting, women have a very limited range of movement by default. No one is a genius doctor or a transmigrated assassin. To throw a fit and call the MC s*upid because she can't mount an instant, singlehanded rescue is... Not a clever thing to do.

Calling the novel a boring mess, though, is something I would agree with. Even skimming through it was a sad trudge. There are better ones on NU, such as the Eight Treasures Trousseau, which for example had a MC who actually puts her military background to good use.

This novel reminds me of Hello Ninth Uncle. It doesn't have the same plot, but the understanding between the leads is similar.

This is a good story worth 5-stars. I like the light and comedic tone of the story. The FL is smart, but surely the ML is smarter than her. That’s why she couldn’t guess that ML and his disguise are the same person (even though many times she almost got it).

This is a pretty fun read. Things do move very fast but it's not too fast to make the story feel hard to read. It's basically a throw away scene and left for us readers to consider that it's the FL and not the woman he's talking to at the time. It'll never be brought up again.

That being said, the relationship between the FL and ML is very adorable. She initially sets out to have him as a backer to protect her family but they develop a genuine love for one another. Their interactions quickly become rather hilarious at times. Especially the ML.

Spoiler

He's devious and begins planning ways to get her to "force" him to take responsibility for her. Which she constantly chooses not to do as she wants him to marry her willingly. Makes it harder for him as he keeps fantasizing about her. Poor dude even has a wet dream after just seeing her without her outer clothing.

The FL doesn't really do anything for revenge and will be torn between concern that she's changed the future and that she cannot stop things that seem predestined (this makes sense given that she's not a main force in the capital).

She does

Spoiler

Get slight revenge on her SIL. In the future she saw, her SIL survived the death of their family and that SIL's sister also maneuvered her way into the prince's bed, so FL knew something wasn't right. Couple that with the current timeline's SIL and her sister plotting to have the SIL fall to miscarry FL's nephew/niece in order to get FL expelled from the family (the SIL already learned that she probably couldn't carry the baby to term and that she would most likely die as well if she tried). In the end, the entire SIL's family gets wrecked.

The ending is very sweet, a happy ending for the FL and her family. And then they hit you with a side story that is right in the feels.

Spoiler

We get to see the ML from the previous timeline. It's made clear that he fell in love with her then too despite her being engaged to the prince he served. It is just one big extra story of depression which includes things like him constantly cleaning her gravestone (which he moved into one of his mansions), him receiving a note from her (which basically said if they're reborn again for him to make up his mind earlier), and him eventually just giving up on living (as he failed to make Zhou a better country and that he couldn't protect her).

[collapse]

There are some problems with it but it's definitely a good read to pass the time. Just don't expect this to focus a lot on the court intrigue and politics. It's there but it's more of the backdrop of the budding relationship between the FL and ML.

TSiB did a good job on translating as well. <<less

It’s a great story. A bit of everything and romance in the mix. Loved the FL and ML chemistry. Individually they are also great and likable. This novel avoid a lot of cliches of novels the same type. A must read.

This is a gem, not perfect because nothing is, but it's extremely good. I specifically enjoy the intricate events from the past and the current lifes, how tiny insignificant things can bring about a huge change of fate for some characters, and yet the major plot of destiny forces some other characters to fall into their destined fate, overwritten their attempts to bend their ends.

I also love that MC is extremely smart and adaptive, and even though the MC turns out to be smarter than her, she always have the... more>> way to turn things around. The ML has plenty of problems himself, in real life such person would be very irritating to be with. Basically this is a manipulative MC meeting a clingy and dishonest ML, liar VS liar. There are plenty of funny moments, love it.

Not everything is sunshine and laughter, some parts are tragic and saddening. Excellent writing.

The translation is also excellent, one of the best I have ever read here. The translator said they don't know Mandarin, but you won't feel it because they put a lot of efforts to make it extremely smooth. <<less
