Gu Mingxi and Pang Qian were next-door neighbors, classmates, and deskmates. From year-to-year, even when the class seating was rearranged, they would still be deskmates. They grew up together like a pair of brother and sisters despite having different parents; if it was someone else, then their parents would probably have already arranged their wedding. However, Gu Mingxi was different.

Cried like a btch JK

This novel was on my To Read list for a longgg time because I was really not feeling the plot and some reviews made me not want to read this at all but when I saw this on my list again and see that it is completed, I just went ahead and read this. To be honest I was really close on dropping this on the early 10-20 chaps but because of this the character development is so good. I was reading while snot and tears... more>> are streamlining down on my phone lol. It was a heart wrenching story, the ML is a very strong individual because personally I will not be able to live if I went through all the stuff that he experienced. I think I took it lightly at first because and I don't know anyone near me that suffers the same thing as him but when I searched and watch interviews of the people who suffer the same every day, I bawled. It really made me think about the life I am currently living.

Kudos to the author and translators for picking this up. The characters are well-written, the plot flows well and I am very satisfied on the ending. I want to give heaps of praises but my vocab is on error rn lol...

Anyways I hope someday I can find my own Ms. Crab or if fortunate, I hope I can be a Ms. Crab to a person. <<less

This novel makes me see the world of disable people who endure hardship and many suffering to be success in life and to live a normal life..

It makes me cry so much that I don't know how many time I shed my tears because of heartache. Having someone by your side when you are down and in despair. Losing yourself in the darkness. I can feel how much the ML tried to overcome all this.

The interaction between the two lead is beautiful sometimes it makes me despair and angry when... more>> the FL is so naive but its make me happy again because of their will..I dont know how to describe how I really felt but I know that this novel teaches me To never give up in life even when you are at the worstest, their always way/path for us to follow. Thank you so so much for translating this wonderful novel. <<less

This novel is so good. I cried so much. But it wasn't angsty tears? It was tears due to how bittersweet, but at the same time heart-warming, the story is. I think I ought to emphasize that it's bittersweet. It has it's teary, heart-wrenching moments, but is a beautiful, moving, dare I say, fluffy, love story at the same time.

Please don't let reviews about the bitterness and crying put you off! This is not your typical, feel-good romance novel, but it's more than worth reading. It has so much depth... more>> and is written so well.

Below is another short synopsis (with a spoiler).

Spoiler

It's essentially the story of a disabled boy (he has no arms) and a young girl who are childhood friends who grew up together. It's about how they navigated their younger years together, parted, but ended up finding each other again, against all odds. They have an incredible friendship and a moving love story.

Spoiler

About Gu Minxi's father. Please don't read this if you haven't read the novel yet! Big spoiler. It's worth waiting to read it in the story.

He is an a**hole. As simple as that. I somewhat understood his character in the beginning, when he was being harsh on Gu Mingxi in the hopes of making him more independent, but after that things just went downhill. He is the only character I have true resentment for. He was a coward who was ashamed of his son. Man, when he cheated and abandoned Gu Mingxi and his mother I was ANGRY. I get it, he wants to be filial by having a "healthy" child, but that's no excuse.

Divorce if you want a child that badly! You'll still be an absolutely horrific person, but it's better than keeping mistresses, that your wife knows about and is heartbroken over too. It's better than getting your mistress pregnant while you are still married. It wasn't Gu Mingxi's mother's fault that she couldn't conceive after her miscarriage. If you wanted to have another child, you could have had one earlier. If you knew you wanted one so badly, that you would be willing to abandon your family in the future, then you had the choice to discuss the gravity of the situation your wife and work it out when you both were younger. What a shitty husband and father.

Honestly, this was one of the most heartbreaking elements of the story for me. I'm glad his second wife divorced him and he had a spoilt brat of a daughter (oops, am I being too harsh? Nah). But even then, at your own son's wedding, after being an absent father for so many years, and feeling "guilty", you leave early because your daughter is throwing a fit?

I'm so glad Gu Mingxi had Pang Qian, and her family, to stand beside him. Pang Qian's father was honestly a gem in the way he stepped up to take care of Gu Mingxi, and do some of the things his father ought to have done (making a special desk for him for school, making a special bicycle for him to get to school with, accepting him wholeheartedly, to the point where he has no qualms about letting him marry his precious daughter.

Ok, I should end this rant now. I could go on. If you've read this before reading the novel, don't let it put you off, please! I say all this because I'm often the type of person who reads spoilers lol.

[collapse]

All in all, this is a beautiful, moving story. 10/10 recommend! If you're hesitating, just go for it already! <<less

This novel is a gem!

I'm a little bit sceptical about this book. Never heard about the author before and the theme is too 'heavy' for me. And when I felt a little bit nausea of repeated theme as CEO and reborn, I'm bracing myself to read it 1st. And...

This book made me registered @novelupdates just to vote and write a review, because it's that good.

... more>> The pacing and detail of story is perfect, it's tear-jerker, heart-wrenching, but warm your heart as the same time.

Just give this novel a chance. I'm pretty sure you'll won't regret it. <<less

The story might improve later on but I honestly can't bring myself to read any more. My main issue is the girl. Pang Qian is by far the worst female protagonist I've come across. Most of the story is from her POV and so far she comes off as a self centered insensitive brat. I give props to the author for maintaining realism, the other characters and the situations they are in are completely realistic and relatable. But Pang Qian is just so annoying. When she's 12 she behaves like... more>> a 5 year old and when she's in the teens she acts like a 12 year old. I keep waiting for her to grow up or just stop being such a brat but no such luck. I understand that theres more to the story but I just can't bring myself to read any further. <<less

This is a lovely series and I enjoyed it very much. The writing is very descriptive and vivid, so it is easy to get a feel of the characters and their emotions. Makes you connect with them and feel the whole roller coaster of emotions from jealousy to happiness to sympathy to awe.

It is quite difficult to imagine the daily life of a disabled person but I am not entirely aware if the things described are accurate (using feet to cook etc). I felt very emotional reading certain parts -... more>> the fathers rejection, the mothers selfishness, Ming Xi's determination to be independent and the fact that his future choices were limited - not because he was mentally incapable, but because he was physically unable to do certain things. A lot of the situations seemed real.

What I especially loved about the book is that the FL never saw him in a different light because he was disabled. Neither did his close friends. What I loved even more, is that Ming Xi despite his issues and family problems proved that he was so wonderful even without his arms. I am so happy he got the ending he deserved.

The characters developed well over the course of the novel and one can relate with how each of them feel at that moment. The pacing was also just right so that by the end, you feel like you really lived their lives. A hugely satisfying piece. <<less

The novel is written from a young age all the way to adulthood. I really like this novel and how the author have done it. The lead characters all have their fair share of trials, sweetness and happy ending. It's long and sometimes, I need to stop reading because it became wordy. Over-all its a heart rending one. I really love it :)

It's a very sweet romantic novel.

It can be wordy and slow at times but it's basically a "getting together" story in which they finally get together near the end. There are a lot of life events in between, such as family problems, school issues, and financial issues which makes it seem somewhat realistic.

I thought the male lead was a very sweet, gentle, and kind character.
The female character is interesting and I found her kind of annoying/s*upid at times but also cute.

Spoiler

One thing I initially believed was somewhat unrealistic was the male character's ability to use his feet to do almost everything. Then I searched it up... and found videos on youtube of handicapped people using their feet to paint and even to eat... So I was wrong. It is quite realistic. It also helped me learn more.

Honestly not a fan of this sort of novel. Too much angst and heartbreak for my liking. Felt really frustrated at times due to certain characters and their actions, but I guess that’s the beauty of this novel. The characters, their struggles and how harsh life can be just felt overwhelmingly realistic that it makes one’s heart feel particularly heavy.

There’s a lot I want to say, but I feel that my words won’t do the novel any justice, so I suggest just reading it yourself. You surely won’t regret it.

Whenever someone asked me for a c-novel recommendation, this novel is it. It is very heart-wrenching and bittersweet plot. It will bring you to a roller coaster ride of emotions. You will feel the tension, frustration, heartbreak, and injustices the characters are experiencing. As well as, the satisfaction of characters' growth as they shed away their naivety especially when facing societal expectations and judgements. I hope readers don't be put off with some characters at the start. Please keep reading. Just prepare your tissues because you will definitely cry. Overall,... more>> the story is realistic, poignant, and angsty. I’m so glad it is a HE or else I’m gonna riot. <<less

What a gem!!

The male lead definitely one of the best characters I've ever knew. What I like the most about him is he doesn't live in the past. What happen in the past can't be changed so the only way left is to move forward.

I'm really happy to know that he got many good people around to support him.

Thank you to author and translators for sharing this gem with us!

One of the best novels I have read. If you are planning to read this, don't hesitate! I was hesitant at first because I thought it is full of bitter realities of life. Yes, this will make you cry but gosh, it will be worth it. The author wrote the ML's character with dignity. The FL and their friends are awesome too. Such a beautiful and pure kind of love. ❤

Beautiful from start to finish.

Their relationship is PRECIOUS. The way they understand each other and care for each other is just so sweet.

The way FL helps ML naturally as if it was as natural as breathing and ML spoiling FL and pampering her all the time. I just can't.

... more>> People complain about FL being annoying and throwing tantrums but I found it realistic, she's been spoiled by ML since forever and after the accident she treats ML the same way.

I actually loved the way she bullied him all the time because it showed that in her eyes, he was the same as before, the one who would always take care of her no matter what.

I loved the character development in the story, most stories add a separation arc and they add nothing to the story, but in this one... My heart broke a million times. I cried many times reading this.

FL grows up as an adult and becomes independent and is loyal and caring and she tells everyone who tries to pursue her that she has someone she loves and she stops everyone at the beginning. I loved that about her. I also loved that after their reunion she became extremely patient with ML and didn't blame him or pressured him to open up about the past.

She grew up so much as a character, she is bold, brave, caring, impulsive, loving, she is beautiful.

ML is incredible, the way he is kind and considerate to everyone even if he's the one facing difficulties is just heartbreaking. I found that the story was really realistic in the way he was trapped by his disability and the way he had to work extra hard on everything in order to be top of the class yet at the same time, he was so sweet towards FL all the time, the way that FL made him feel like he was just another normal person in the world and that only later in life he felt different and faced reality.

Later on, when he faced so many hardships and loneliness, he became more human and broken unlike at the beginning when he was endlessly kind and 'perfect'.

I specially loved this development because later on, with how they both changed during the separation, they still were precious together but later on even more.

ML is such a gentle soul who cares about everyone and tries his best at everything he can, I just loved him, the best character in the story.

Just so fkabdkndleke I love them.

If you want to read something that will make you laugh and cry many times you should read this <3 <<less

I could not stop reading until the end. Thank God the translations are done/completed. I ended up marathon reading within a couple days.

For me the story is great. There are character developments, and very realistic. I could relate myself to them, during their school time, college, to adult time. No unnecessary drama/plot. Oh boy I shed tears many times reading these chapters (emotional gurl, yeah TuT).

I also like that the story is warm hearted one, it doesn't venture into dark theme like "Devil's Warmth" (I read it before this novel,... more>> and I felt very angst).

Well. Conclusion: you go read this! <<less

Just wonderful. I like how the characters grow. When I got to the part where it was revealed that our ML lost his arms, I was really thinking to drop it as I could only picture out the rest of the story with our ML being bullied, pitied, and worst, hating himself and life. And I was thinking that if PQ and GMX will be together in the end, how will the author write it so it won't appear like our PQ getting together with GMX only out of guilt?... more>> But since I already started reading, investing my feelings, I just decided after serious considerations to go on. And there!! Upon reaching the end I was like, God thank you so much for letting this novel into the world! I really love it. Im feeling so sweet like I was the female lead experiencing all those sweetness and to finally bag the man home after years of waiting. When she cried that time when GMX visited her for the last time in her university, there I said - she really did fall head over heels. ❤ <<less

A roller coaster of emotions:

I totally recommend if you can stick around the tough parts. It is not the everyday 'cliche' romance story but a long journey.

The author has vividly captured an extraordinary situation in words and it is the readers' joy to have the work so well translated. The plot, the characters, the relationships, the pacing of the story and the flashback style perfectly intertwining for this masterpiece.

Strong determined characters and a journey of 30 years captured in words. The suffering, the joy and the laughter all bringing in... more>> the readers who saw it till the end. The variety of characters and the depiction of their everyday lives and activities from various both ML and FL perspectives as they went about their days growing up and there is so much more to add to this but to avoid spoiling all I have to write here is that : give it a read and hang around till the end if you can. <<less
