Unlike most isekai/transmigrator-type stories, Tales of the Reincarnated Lord follows a main character who slowly builds up a kingdom. The best description for this story is that it is the equivalent of a CKII game.

Pros: Kingdom-building is done in a believable manner. The decisions the MC makes are logical, and he actually has to work towards achieving his objectives instead. Characters behave like actual people instead of tropes. The MC has to rely on tactics and strategy, and plays the long game instead of rushing around getting power-ups.

Cons: Too many... more>> characters! It's hard to remember who did what sometimes. Chapters are long and sometimes "padded" with overly-long descriptions of simple acts/descriptions. There are some arcs that are useless (though they may come up at a later time). <<less

This is seriously good. It has a distinct western medieval feel to the story, with a bit of xuanhuan cultivation thrown in. The MC has deep interactions with those around him, the action/strategy is pretty good, and it doesn't focus too much on any of the reincarnation/cultivation cliche's, it is pretty obvious the author is trying to avoid them. Everything does not always go the MC's way, he occasionally goes through a few situations that aren't much worse than dying. There is obviously some plot armor, but it isn't too... more>> extreme. <<less

It is one of the Best novel I read. It has good story building, character, plot and twist, kingdom building, life as realistic in medieval fantasy, how protagonist build his romance story, and so on. I think it will be better if the story skip too detailed information. Overall the novel is good. I feel like reading it as adventuring in medieval fantasy as dominion lord

This story was a disappointment to me, it started out great I loved the worldbuilding, and in fact why I dislike it is not due to its slow start. For me a slow start can be a positive, if it's done right.

What I liked about this story was that it seemed like a Xuanhuan story that did not focus solely on the main character, but one in which the side characters held importance too, and one in which the main character didn't engage massive armies alone, when he had the... more>> option of doing so with an army at his side.

Also I liked that the story while having some romance to it, it wasn't the usually oppressive romance you find in many more mainstream Xianxia / Xuanhuan, the character respected females, at least that was how the story was written.

So what went wrong?
Spoiler

Simple the story degenerated, it went from focusing on armies and collaboration, into a generic Xuanhuan story, it seems like (to me at least, don't hold me up on this as I may be wrong), that the author had either done storyboarding for the first 80'ish chapters, or the author gave into comment pressure, and desided to focus on the main character moreso than his armies, to the point that the otherwise fairly logical main character decided to do illogical things, and things which goes against his previously established morals, all in favour of a powerful alpha male type of character.

[collapse]

As such I cannot recommend it as an amazing story, it's still good enough if you want something decently enjoyable, but I seriously do think that the author gave into pressure from fans who wanted something more generic, and it ruined the story for me. <<less

This is one of those stories that improve the more you read to the point of wanting more, especially if you like themes like wars, medieval age, knights, violence, kingdom building, nobles, and more. I couldn't stop reading it all these week until I finished all translated chapters.

This novel start slow but gets much better after chapters 30-50 more or less I don't remember well. What I like about this novel is that the MC is strong, but it is shown or at least it is said how it becomes... more>> strong and it is create a solid background for the MC and its relationships that allow the story to flow more natural and easy to to accept.

The MC is like an old man in the body of a young adult, reason of his bland personality and lack of ambitions in the beginning of the story but changes little by little by the force of the circumstances of his family, friends and enemies.

what I find lacking, it's the personalities of the women that appears in the story being only support characters only or disappointing characters lacking in character or brains o maybe both, they don't play an important role in the history and I only remember them because there are few women with names in the history, but most of them are weak and unimportant in the history to the point that I had read, with one or two exceptions maybe. <<less

Despite somewhat confusing first chapters and LONG flashbacks in the beginning, this is one of the best novels I have read. I recommend it to all fans of medieval politicking, diplomacy, combat and war and cultivation.

I love that MC is not suddenly modernizing everything with his modern knowledge but he used his experiences to improve Lorist´s previous character and to overcome his cultivation problems. MC is quite strong but not absurdly overpowered. This novel also has excellent world building and kingdom (well, barony) building and management, interesting military tactics/strategies and... more>> entertaining action and battles.

Another important point in favor of this novel is its very good translation. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the chapters. <<less

Too much info dump that sometimes I skipped some to just get into the action. I have a feeling that this might reach a thousand chapters with no clear ending or will get dropped midway.

Some may find this as a good read. But it doesn't fit my taste.

Man I'm so glad I read this novel I almost got scared away by some of the reviews that said it slow and boring. Now don't get me wrong this is a novel that really takes its time setting up the world and MC, but by no means is it boring this novel kept me engaged the whole way it was awesome. The MC is really what I love about this story hes not a push over or an as*hole hes op but had to work for all of it... more>> and it doesnt go overboard with it. Anyway I suck with this review stuff I just highly recommend this if your looking for a looking for a well written novel with great MC, side characters with personalty and awesome world and kingdom building. <<less

oh god what a great read!! I love the story, the character, the plot, the world-building, just about everything~

ugh so sad that it got axed due to s*upid censorship... well at least they stopped after finishing one of the big arcs, so you won't be too disappointed at the sudden stop (cant even call it an end cause it just stopped. just like that.)

It's a great novel, ticks all the boxes but you're then left to dry when it's discontinued which is exceptionally upsetting because you could "feel" that the story is reaching a conclusion or a new realm of some sorts, but then it's all taken away. The author chalks it up to his deteriorating health; other commentators say he was heavily censored and so he gave up on it. Chinese novels always fall into one of either extreme of being wholly shitty or so good that it gets censored, what's worse... more>> is almost all R18 Chinese novels get censored to f*cking hell. <<less

The first fifty or so chapters that serve as an introduction to this novel are really great, detailed, full of stories and characters that are both likeable and interesting. It alternates between flashbacks and a slice of life style of narration, going from the daily antics of our protagonist to his past love story, which was a very original thing in this genre of web novel.

However, it'll quickly and focus on war. All that happens from that point onward is one battle after another, random logistic talks and whatnot, and... more>> even the protagonist takes a turn for the worst.

From a likeable, eccentric teacher, we get a ruthless war machine that will suddenly burn and kill with no guilt in mind. Were that all, it would still be passable although I'd have disagreements with the author, but he goes as far as randomly raping a servant all of a sudden.

I don't doubt that the writer enjoyed redacting this r*pe scene about a servant crying and the protagonist forcing himself on her ("because that's her duty") but from that point onward, nothing goes right any more. Can his previous love story still stand? What to think of his forceful tactics (such as kissing without consent) on yet another girl?

If this novel had the potential to be a great fantasy slice of life, it ruined it! It had potential to be an interesting battle novel, but then again it went too far into common Chinese tropes like r*pe and ruined itself again. I will not regret seeing that this novel has been dropped. <<less

It surprisingly ended just like that. I knew that it got axed but I didn't think it was going to happen this early considering how consistent the writing quality was, relative to the rest of the novel at least. And so it turned out that it wasn't dropped because the author got burned out, instead it seemed to have been some kind of censorship issue.

Now the reason why I bothered writing all of that to begin with in this review is that I want to assure people who are hesitant... more>> to read the novel because it's axed that it actually is a good read all the way through. It didn't have a conclusive ending, in fact it was only some 15 or so chapters into a new arc, but what makes up for it is the frequent foreshadowing of the general conclusion of the story. Given 2 or 3 arcs, around 100-200 chapters, the story actually could end naturally. That's why it wasn't that frustrating really to see it end so abruptly. After all, the main driving force of the novel was powerups, whether martial or technological, and using them to destroy nobles and even kingdoms. That's why even though it ended just like that, it feels like "meh, he was already strong enough to conquer the world basically anyway, he was only waiting for the right time."

Now for the actual novel itself, I deeply appreciate 3 things.

One is the fact that modern technological advantage played a major role the entire novel. It resulted in making the MC's army OP, which is a fresh angle at looking at the OP MC genre. In other novels, enemies get rekt because the MC has some sort of cheat or whatever, but in here, not only the MC but even his armies, which does a lot more fighting than he does (which makes total sense since he's a noble), have cheats too (cannons to blow up armies, cannons to blow up castles, cannons to blow up ships, cannons for daysss).

Two is plot progression. Things are really happening in this novel, for real. You don't spend arc after arc after arc fighting tournaments that happen in less than a month. Instead, MC rises up from an outcast noble to a minor noble to a Duke to directly influencing the entire northern region of the continent to singlehandedly (with his armies obv) decimating countries. Too bad it got dropped before he got to the very top but he was already the strongest anyway, so it was only a matter of time.

Speaking of time, the one thing I appreciate the most in this novel is the fact that 40 or so years went by almost 600 chapters. This was the vital factor in making the previous two points work so well. It spends literal months and years fighting wars and researching weapons to get to where it is. It doesn't spend 3 chapters explaining what a watermill is, how it's made, what materials it needs, getting said materials, and then forgetting about it after it's done. It's great to see wars and constructions lasting for literal years, like how realistically possible it's supposed to be. It really spares the readers from multiple plotlines happening all at once in a single f*cking day. If there's anything this novel would deserve 4 stars for, then it would be this. I wouldn't strictly call it pacing tho, since if I said the pacing in this was exceptional, that would be a lie. Just the fact that it spans over almost 50 years is what I love about it.

That being said, the overall verdict for this novel would've been 3 stars, since it really is kinda underwhelming at other aspects, not to mention it's even axed, but like previously mentioned, I'll give this novel 4 stars instead. After all, I still gotta give it some slack, it's one of the less than 10 novels that I've completed.

To wrap it all up, it's one of the best staple novels out there. Have a nice read, I hope you'll like it. <<less

4, 5/5 One of most "real" building kingdom in another world novel. MC is't not saint or OP who kill all alone, in later chapter most of the time he don't fight at all, he have army and generals for that. Some ppl have problem with maid, but its quite normal (not good) in that time and place. Novel have good writhing and very good world building, one of the best in this type of novel.

While I see some people in the reviews have a hard time stomaching the MC and his "Harsh" personality... I consider him a breath of fresh air.

Maybe it's due to the fact that Id have nothing to do with women if I wasn't straight? I find most women annoying and manipulative. A bit general yes? Yeah, maybe... but ive lived long enough and seen plenty of women in my time to have my own reasons to think this way.

So when I have an MC that doesn't take bullsh*t or anything... more>> from both men and women, I enjoy it.

He's a man doing man stuff. Truly inspiring.

After seeing/reading so many Jap MC's with weak mentality's... I guess my hearts gone to the dark side and started to crave a bit of unbiased violence.

I just started reading this so I can't/won't give it a proper review yet. I will update this later if I remember to.

So far it's a solid 3 stars though. (Please take into consideration that I'm very picky and this would probably be a solid 4-5 stars for other people that have similar taste to my own.)

Oh and btw... what is up with the tag "Reverse r*pe". Pretty sure r*pe is just r*pe. <<less

Amazing. The character is strong, but not too OP. I also like the fact that there are some politics involved, but it is not overly annoying and most things are explained in an easy understand manner on things like strategy and things that usually go behind the scenes. I also like the fact that the character is a capable and realistic in the way he runs things, but there is not a convenient time-skip where everything is solved.

Its a good novel, just not good for the categories it says it is. The whole thing feels like a slice of life story as their is no tension or pressure on the main character, he is OP and won't get anything wrong. The only thing holding him back is his battle force rank of iron 3 but considering he is considered silver undefeatable, defeats golds like they are nothing and that he has killed a sword master (or something like that) who are considered the tops on the... more>> continent by chapter 70, he is definitely OP. Bad points - Terrible fight scenes. As in every single fight scene so far feels like a summary so far, no tension at all and no fight has lasted more than 1 paragraph, if not two. They are so short and so simple, even for people who are considered OP since the author for some reason doesn't want to build up any tension whatsoever.

- Character progression. The characters don't change at all and even worse, there is so many of them and yet there is no distinction to them. Let me explain. The main character, I have no idea what he looks like, might be mentioned early on but I already forgot at this point and I know he a person from earth who is quite smart. The main characters best friend charade, I know he is fat and good with money. His other good friend, I know he uses darkness attribute and that he is shameless. And lets not talk about the 40+ characters we have been introduced to so far, barely any description or distinction between them.

- MC is like a mary sure, everyone loves him at first sight and wants to follow him despite not knowing him at all.

Good points- Very funny, especially the first 10s of chapters. Made me chuckle
- Interesting world build
- Plots dont repeat AT ALL. Everything feels very new.

Overall- I gave this a 3 since it is a good novel, just under the wrong categories. Take off martial arts, action and xuanhuan. The rest of the categories represents this novel so much better and if I had gone into the novel seeing those tags, I would rate it 4-5 as it is awesome. But I'm dropping it now as I want some tension, some action, some cultivation, some character progression and this novel does not offer that. <<less

Reviewed at c.131, rated 4.

Reading Tales of Reincarnated Lord brought me back to the eras of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe. Although, the author's storytelling was obviously not as solid as those of classic novelist's, but it was clearly different compared to what commonly found among translated Chinese webnovels.

It told the story of an earthling who was reborn in the body of an estranged young noble. The beginning of the novel talked about his escapades and relationships in a city of freedom. Devoid of tricky family entanglements, he gathered wealth and... more>> reputation for himself by making use of his earth knowledge and the strength he had gained in this world. Then some messengers arrived and he suddenly found himself as an inheritor of a faraway land. There came the main plot: how will he develop the land that has long been broken up by wars and corrupt nobles? The various knowledges he brought from earth was not enough. He also had to have good strategies and reliable supporters, joined hands with dubious lords, while looking for ways to boost his own strength at the same time. Also flirted and made love with beauties on the side.

Rather than saying the main theme is Domestic Affairs/Kingdom Development, I feel it closer to biography of a lord instead.... well, that said, the title says it all. What it does not tell is that the content often talked about unnecessary details and confusing noble relationship. Knowing the landscape of a city might be good for readers; but the amount of each army provision? The exact number of s*aves doing this or that? Those kind of chapters appeared here and there, and were recipes for good night sleep.... <<less

The translation is excellent, but that's the only redeeming thing about this novel.

I tried, I really tried to like it. But oh my God is it awful. It glorifies s*xual assault and r*pe, and says the woman should be happy to be assaulted. There's trying to be accurate to a brutal period, and there there's this sludge.

It's constantly establishing immutable rules for the world, and then breaking them 10 chapters with zero explanation.

And holy shit, is every character dumb as rocks. Not like people in the time period didn't know... more>> as much as we do, but honest to God a complete lack of braincells. A convoy is stuck at a small lake for months and no one can solve it til MC suggest making a bridge, and everyone bows down to the MCs superior intellect

And that's not even the worst example. There's a certain event that happens every winter. It's happened for hundreds of years, and yet somehow everyone just forget it's going to happen this year, leaving them woefully unprepared.

The novel just feels like a home schooled incel in the fourth grade tried to create an isekai with a self insert smart protagonist and failed utterly <<less

I must say this is one of my top 3 favorite kingdom building alongside release that witch and the world online.

2 of my most favorite part about this novel are first the the side character actually used properly rather than side character for few chapter and say yes sir. Second, the MC arent potrayed as perfect man, but as normal human who make mistakes and suffer misfortune too.

Although it's not perfect but this novel really refreshing because an event not only using main character point of view at the story... more>> but also other character point of view. Some other novel also doing this sometimes, but I think tales of the reincarnated lord do this the best.

uh sorry I forget to press rate, I give it 9/10 or 5/5 <<less
