High school student Amatsuki Iori was summoned to a different world to fight as a brave of salvation, but whilst he was trying to save the world, he ends up being killed by the companions whom he wholeheartly believed in.

It was then, when Iori thought that he already died, he came to his senses only to find that he was re-summoned to the same world, but in the future.

Back again as a brave to subjugate the demon king which his former self had failed to defeat previously…

Then, he noticed, that among the guys who ordered him to fight as a brave, the figure of one of his former comrades could be seen.

「……I will make you regret having betrayed me.」

A girl then appears before him as he is consumed by hatred, but not any ordinary girl – she is the former demon king who is also aiming to take revenge.

The brave man who abandoned his heroic ideals, exchanging them for a burning desire to take revenge and the former demon king who seems ready to join him in his new-found quest.

This is gold, at least from my PoV.

  1. There is one flaw. The author told a big fat lie about a revenge theme. MC doesn't want revenge. He just wants to know why they betrayed him in the first place. He just expects them to repent for their betrayal, which most of them don't, leading to actual revenge.
  2. There's no unnecessary gore and MC going mad here and there. He's quite rational even when provoked. Not the "I'm 10 parallel universes ahead of you" kind but just a normal one with normal strategies, but not so low to the level of Fixed Damage MC who just walks right into the enemy.
  3. This is not Nidome no Yuusha. Except for a faint resemblance, these two novels are completely different.
  4. I didn't want another revenge novel with blood and intestines and a crazy MC.
  5. MC is a good guy.
  6. The manga is crap. At least from my PoV since when I first began reading this, I had great expectations for a manga.
  7. The MC is not overpowered. The whole novel up to this point is about charging up his power to attain the level of his previous life while also taking revenge on a few characters.
  8. About the FL, your usual gluttonous demon. So far, she seems to genuinely care for the MC. Her targets of revenge and the MC's targets coincide a bit so it makes sense for her to join hands with him.
  9. Revenge targets are sometimes like the bosses mini-bosses in RPGs.
That's it for the summary.

Stopped reading after 5 chapters. The translation quality is simply too poor. Childish sentences, a lot of grammatical errors, overall poor descriptions and weird word choices, make this really frustrating to read.

As for the content it self, I can't really say much after reading only 5 chapters. It doesn't seem especially entertaining or well written, nor does it seem bad. It seemed pretty average to me.

So if translation quality doesn't bother you, you MIGHT want to give this a try. Otherwise, just find another novel -- one that has a... more>> proper translator. <<less

One of the best or the best light novels I've read in forever. Soon to be OP MC and waifu heroine. Story takes a fresh take on revenge, instead of one person its 2 people who share the same grudge or hatred fated to meet. Its a really refreshing story. It goes from him getting tortured, to him doing the torturing. Also romance is nice, straightforward.

This novel started out "ok" though not nearly as good as the novel its trying to replicate. The story seems to wander around quite a bit as if the author wasn't 100% sure of how the novel was going to end when he wrote it. I'll add a second star for the translation, but thats it.

There were brief moments when the relationship between the MC and a companion were quite amusing, but I found myself getting terribly bored throughout most of this.

I stopped reading this after the recent release as it has horrific and detailed depictions of a young child being mercilessly r*ped to death after being strapped down to a table by her own guardians. While this horror is taking place, nearby is a pile of decomposing and abused young bodies which suffered similar torment laying in a heap carelessly nearby it.

I find excessive details of traumatizing & heinous events like this replusive. So I've dropped the series. <<less

Tbh I love this novel but I won't say it's godlike, good story good characters torture scenes it's got all of it as for the people comparing this to nidome no yuusha, no they're different novels if you don't like it just write that you don't this feels more like Karen comparing her kid with the neighbours it's pointless.

Tl:Dr Good story, good torture scenes, small hints of romance and a lil touch of comedy,

I've really liked what's gone on so far. The comedy is good, the characters likable, and the fight scenes well done. Oftentimes when it comes to revenge stories, I have an issue where I feel like some of the characters don't quite deserve what they're getting. Otherwise there are time where a crime happened in the past, and since that's happened, the character has changed so the moral question of 'should they still be killed' becomes a predictable trope. So far this story has done a great job of making... more>> me hate the bad guys and be satisfied with their inevitable punishments. The only issue I have with it so far is a bit of predictability.
Spoiler

What I mean is that each story follows the same pattern. MC's show off their skills, arrive at the boss, boss much stronger than anything they have faced until now, they barely manage to beat them thanks to some quick thinking.

[collapse]
And then we get to see some much deserved comeuppance. The funnest part of the story probably is the 'middle' revenge targets. They're the ones where there is little fighting involved, and you get to see some really creative thinking. I can't wait to see how it develops further. <<less

The story isn't so bad. It isn't the most original, but the plot is at least interesting enough to adequately keep a reader's attention. That's the only thing it has going for it though.

The story is centered around betrayal and revenge, but the emotions aren't handled well. Although I only read the first several chapters, there wasn't a single point at which I felt that the tone or mood were exceptional. The writing is very shallow, so you never feel any of the more visceral emotions that should be conveyed... more>> while reading.

Additionally, the characters aren't very deep. The personalities of any characters who are important enough to have any depth are inconsistent. The main character himself barely has any depth, and the bit of 'insanity' written into his character is forced and awkward. Most of the other characters have no depth at all, but because of that at least there isn't anywhere for their personalities to be forced or awkward.

Overall, it feels childish. There aren't any deep emotions or complex characters. This story may be more suited to an 'angsty preteen' audience. <<less

Not terrible but felt pretty unsatisfying. I couldn't bring up enough interest to keep reading what's been translated honestly.

The "pure" demon king that wants a revenge too but seems to be the authors brakes for the hero. The hero that is a complete ret*rd and plays his hand early against his first target, and fails to kill him TWICE, but is like oh I knew about the robe and had worked out ways around it. I mean finally during volume 2 he gets a revenge... but even that was pretty... more>> weak really.

Basically the author is too soft and the hero couldn't plot his way out of a paper sack. <<less

It's like reading a children's book with the transported to another world theme.

Revenge? No. Nothing seems to be happening. They basically repeat going to different dungeons so he can gain the power he lost.

I read pretty far because I was really trying to give this a shot due to my love for this genre, but I started falling asleep while reading it like 5 times.

Boring.

2 stars, because if you have nothing else to read and are just looking to pass time, it's not so bad I guess.

No harem, fresh plot. I love this as its been awhile I haven't read a Revenge plot. Its not a 'Second Chance' its coming back from the dead. I also love how they act like a married couple. A harem would ruin this. I also like the Character Design. MC looks like Tatsuya.

Okay... on to the bad points. It feels like this story isn't well thought. As he meets his traitors to soon and it moves too fast. MC is more of a traumatize child... Its more like the... more>> Author is just venting his frustrations. I'm relieved MC at least has some level of intelligence. Also MC deserved to be betrayed. He let them on his side despite knowing their shady. That's not kindness. That's idiocy. I wish the characters were more smart.

Despite that, I admire the MC. He admits all of this which I have just said and does his best to grow and slowly trust people again. That's why I'm grateful for the Demon Lord character. She makes me laugh all the time. I want to give this 4 stars but considering how this type of Novel is rare on NU, ill give it 5 stars. Not having a harem is also very relieving. There's just so much to work with so it feels like some potential is being wasted.

I don't know if the Translator is reading this but keep up the good work. <<less

At first I wasn't too sure about thia novel cause I'm not really fond of revenge-story, but after I read this it was good.

The MC is not some mad man driven by the revenge, but still have other emotion intact. Although MC is focused to revenge, he still could think straight and have some fun. The writing is good, just some typo and mismatch translation sometimes.

It's just some little flaw in the storyline that bothers me (my personal preference) but totally fine, and could be considered as a different approach... more>> of story telling.

Spoiler

MC decided to exact revenge to his comrade, at first it was mentioned as only 3 people betraying him, but as the story goes he went and kill others that also betray him. And that is fine. What bothers me is, he know that previously lots of people doing something bad to him, multiple trial of mu*der, and just let it go until they eventually able to kill him

[collapse]

But you can't deny this is a good story. <<less

One of the first light novels I read. Enjoyed it.

Firstly for those who compare this with revenge novels like Nidome no Yuusha, the setting is fundamentally different. MC is summoned to the same world again many years after his first summoning.

If you want pure revenge with hardcore torture, this is not for you. Why?

  1. MC is still sane. He hasn't gotten mad from a lot of suffering or something. He didn't lose everything (like Raul) or get tortured and sexually abused every day (like Keyaru). He just got betrayed right before fighting the demon king.
  2. MC and former Maou are much weaker than they were (MC weak due to stat reset from getting resummoned) so they can't leisurely torture enemies who had betrayed them. They have to finish the job without dying. Mind that these enemies were strong enough to be MC's companions when MC was at his peak.

At chapter 2 and wth is that TL quality? Feels like an edited MTL and even that without much effort.

As for the plot? Welp how the heck did the king who summoned him previously not remember how MC looked back then? When I read the synopsis I thought there might've been quite a gap between the next summoning but it's short as hell, 3 years as the MC said. Quite a mess, really.

Just to note I got to volume 2, maybe chapter 3.

I see a lot of people comparing it to Nidome no Yuusha, which is a bad comparison in my opinion. Nidome no Yuusha is sort of its own type of crazy. The only thing they have in common is a male hero who was betrayed by their summoner (kingdom or whatever) and they take revenge.

This novel is sort of a light-hearted revenge story, I think some people will like that, but for me, it is a little too light-hearted.
I'm... more>> not saying it needs to go full crazy like Nidome No Yuusha, but it is lacking substance.
Most plots feel like a comedy, but there will be a moment where the MC will say something about killing ____, and then it's back to a "comedy".

I am saying comedy in quotes because its... pretty dry and not really unique. Sort of like taking every isekai and only using the jokes that appear in them all. That was a bit harsh, there are a few laughs, but generally, it's generic. Not really unique and after a few chapters you know the general flow and what's coming. Then it's just rinse and repeat.

I really tried to like it, but there wasn't anything that really pulled me in. Not even the skills, magic, items are unique or have any sort of flavor. It isn't bad, so I didn't want to give it a 2/5... but giving it a 3/5 makes me feel generous. It's worth the read if you have nothing else and you need to scratch an itch, but that's about it. <<less

4 chapters is enough for me. Fortunately I've read these comments and turns out I'm right. The MC is cringy ass loser in the end. The Author maybe want to make this tr*sh like NNY vibes, but turns out bullshit. What kind of revenge if he can't killed a human target, and in the end being deceived again I wonder why some people giving this kind of sh*t 4 or 5 stars.

Slow story with weak dialog. The world is very non-descriptive and doesn't build to anything in my opinion. Feels like a lot of fluf with little substance. While I wont diss the translators for their effort I will give my personal opinion based on reading other translations. To put it simple it needs work. Maybe this is a more complex novel to translate because of the writers choice of words but there are a lot of grammatical mistakes and even when the sentence is correct it often does not fit... more>> in with the rest of the paragraph and let not talk about how the paragraphs are broken up. I would suggest getting a proof reader with strong English language skills.

While I appreciate their effort in translating I would say their inexperience coupled with the poor story means I can not recommend this at this time. <<less

TL;DR - I'm seriously not joking here about the writing quality. Ignore everything subjective matter I bring up: the writing is objectively BAD. It's like the author is trying to write a simple story for 6 year olds. Details? Proper exposition? Proper dialogue? Who needs any of that when you have I S E K A I R E V E N G E.

Warning to anyone who wants to read this story. The quality of writing is that of a primary school kid who still hasn't learned anything about language... more>> (Japanese in this author's case). This is seriously bad. I'm not even talking about the content. That is fine, if nothing but cliche, with a few nice twists I didn't see. The author just f*cking SUCKS at writing, period.

This... is a story that would be much better if the author wasn't such a failure as a writer. This is seriously garbage-tier writing quality. The translation is honestly not bad at all, though the editors need to be shot because they are terrible and know nothing about English. The content itself is not bad, at least until the end of ch10: it's the quality (or complete lack thereof) of writing that utterly kills this story.

Well, that and the male MC giving in to such a ridiculous demand at the end of ch10.

It is garbage like this that makes me look at Japanese LNs in massive disdain. Weak-willed male MCs is the bane that just needs to f*cking die already. I wouldn't even mind the (frankly annoying) female heroine if it was for any other reason than
Spoiler

her throwing a temper tantrum and stealing something from Iori and not giving it back until he capitulates. And the weak-spined idiot does exactly that. Ffs, I would've preferred her to quite literally follow him and be even more annoying than for this kind of cliche sh*t to be acceptable.

[collapse]

I'm seriously debating dropping this purely based on just how BAD the writing is. And with how much I do not like the heroine introduced and the weak-willed male MC combines in a bad way.

Nidome no Yuusha is leagues better than this, based purely on writing quality, let alone the content. Not to mention, by ch10 in NnY, a LOT more sh*t has happened because the author of NnY is actually competent and knows how to write a story. 2 stars for now. If I see any improvement before I drop this, I may change the rating. I'm honestly being a bit lenient with even 2 stars considering how BAD the writing is. <<less

So you stumble upon this novel, and you think to yourself, 'wow this might be good.' Well, its not really. Very Japanese-like novel, as in, even though the theme should be revenge and stuff its more like "fluffy" and you got this mesh of "sometimes dark" but mainly light hearted novel, especially the demon king who is with him. There is 100% no reason for them to be together (why the hell is the girl helping him??? They both have an objective of labyrinth cores but the demon king could... more>> definitely just do it solo) , but because of "plot purposes" the demon king tags along. Basically if you are looking for a revenge novel this is not what you are looking for. Don't get me wrong, I also thought Nidome no Yuusha to be absolute BS too (harem tag really?).

This novel gives vibes of a Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari esque type of story. So basically "dark novel" thats not really dark at all <<less

its a decent revenge story, to some of the reviews saying the MC is soft or doesn't kill that's blatantly wrong, he doesn't show mercy to people who betray him or their henchman/soldiers and is pretty brutal at it, the only target he hasn't killed that he's met has a plot device that would result in a mutual su*cide.

The main gripe I have with the story is that the author has a really over the top way of portraying the Mc's former comrades, the author seems to be trying to... more>> make it sort of a story where the MC tries to learn to trust again but simultaneously portraying every ally the MC had in his past life being nice on the surface but secretly being a backstabbing scum. <<less
