I was condemned as a villainess when I died, but I somehow returned to the past as a five-year-old.

The moment I faced my father, who now looked younger, a strange blue window appeared before my eyes—it was a light blue window that revealed someone else’s true feelings.

This novel is the perfect version of regressed-childhood-do-over. Everyone who’s complaining about fl’s personality can read one of the dozens of other books where the characters are totally unaffected by betrayal and trauma! She’s gone through it! I agree that it seems like theres no reason for the *villain* to hate her so much but I’ve only read as much as what’s been translated. More might be revealed later. Anyways, the FL is PERFECTLY GOOD AND DOING HER BEST!! LEAVE HER ALONE SHE HAS TRAUMA!! But it’s a super sweet... more>> book for the most part, had me kicking my feet like ⊂ ((・▽・)) ⊃ <<less

We have got a severely abused princess. From a young age, she has been starved, neglected, and gaslit by her attendants, and worked into the ground preparing to be a 'perfect' princess.

Eventually, she was abandoned 'for her own good' and the attendants/ the puppet master behind them ran rampant: embezzling funds, behaving horribly, using black magic, attempting to kill her older half brother, the crown prince, and blaming it all on her. She is publicly executed the day before her 18th birthday, in front of her family, whom she believes... more>> hates her for allowing the abuse and false charges.

After dying, she wakes up at age 3 or so (I know it says 5, but she acts 2-3), with an ability to see "status windows", or basically a text box over people's heads relaying their inner thoughts. If this didn't blow her mind enough, she quickly discovers that people's inner thoughts are significantly different from from their outside appearance. Her father, whom she finds terrifying, is completely besotted with her. The 'nice' maid who raised her swears at her and thinks she tr*sh.

Her adult mind picks up on the fact that the maids are constantly telling her stuff to make her afraid of her father and treating her poorly, like making her food inedible, or only feeding her once a day. A normal 3 year old with no outside context wouldn't know, but adult-her does. She also realizes they manipulate the situation, such as pinching her so she screams and etc. When her father present, all so he'll eventually give up and leave her. It doesn't help that he's nearly impossible to read, never changing his expression or saying nice things, and appears very intimidating.

The plot will likely revolve around her realizing she is loved and her trying to figure out who was behind the abuse and her execution in her former life (most likely the Empress, whom the princess believed was the only once nice to her: the princess is concubine-born).

I have mixed feelings at the moment. I tend to hate stories where the entire moral is "if she'd just been more likable and nice, people wouldn't have unjustly executed her." This one does appear to focus more on her realizing she is loved and lovable as she is, a slight, but important, difference, but really, I mostly want the adults in her life who failed her to suffer horribly. What is wrong with people?? You couldn't even try smiling at the terrified little kid, or speaking kindly? It is seriously not normal for your kid to binge eat like they're starving like that, or cower and shake like that, and if you start hearing she has a crazy temper and is wasting money, you step in and you actually parent, rather than letting it get so bad you have to execute your child. They also seem super focused on her looks, obsessing over how cute she is as the reason she's lovable (what would have happened if she were normal?) While it's great she will now slowly be learning how to be loved, it will feel unjust if old her is not vindicated, and nothing happens to those who neglected and killed her. <<less

I like it but I can't relate to it, the hatred for some who has never done anything against you and you only heard about him in rumors is un understandable. The emperor and the crown prince are supposed geniuses but the executed the MC without any evidence this is behind the level of misunderstanding that is simply unforgivable. The only light is the ML, he execute the MC but he use a strange looking magic tool so he might be the one who let her be back in time.... more>> The novel is most likely about the Princess descovering not to judge a person by his word alone, the people she trusted the most were her enemies and the people who were cold to her were her allys, but don't get me wrong I am not saying it's the MC fault because no one will think that her father who is glaring at her ignoring her and never speak with her actual love her. <<less

The FL isn't dumb, this story is a realistic representation of how victims of abuse act, just because she goes back in time she can't automatically become strong or op like other time regression stories. She still has trauma of her abuse and neglect. She was brainwashed and manipulated her whole life. So she takes time to open up to her father and brother. I really love this novel, the fluff makes up for the sad moments:')

An abused and manipulated child who was executed gets sent back to the past with a status menu which shows other people's favorability towards her and their thoughts. The thing is the FL being so dumb that even after she's dead she doesn't understand that she was manipulated. Even when reading their thoughts she doesn't understand anything. The status window is a godly power for her but wasted by her EQ which I bet is in negative. She's being abused as soon as she was sent back, she can literally... more>> read their minds but still doesn't know anything. She's instead scared of her family who have like a million favorability. I give her the award of the Most Dumb FL ever.

Spoiler

Every time the Status Screen shows the thoughts of her family it's mostly "How cure she is ~~" or something like that but she's still afraid of them. But the Empress who manipulated and killed her in the previous life has a favorability of -8k and has thoughts of killing her. And the FL is more comfortable with the Empress more than her family. Her head maid was abusing her in the past life and in the present life on orders of Empress, but the dumb FL doesn't realize that she's being abused.

[collapse]

The translations are good, the writing quality is good, everything except the FL are good... It seems like it's not a revenge story but instead a healing herself kind of story but with the FL EQ and IQ being in negatives It's still really frustrating and it being really slow paced which really shows how dumb the FL is and the most s*upid decisions she takes, makes the novel a hard read for casual readers. <<less

it's really an cliche sorta story, but I can really empathise with the FL. You do have to keep remembering she got emotionally manipulated / abused in her first life, of course she's gonna have doubts about her father & the maid she believed to be nice.

if she didn't have the status window in her second life, she would've kept misunderstanding her father, as her father is a more stoic person on the outside, so she's relatively OP with the status window..

(if you as a child, got neglected,... more>> emotionally abused & manipulated. I feel like it's common to not realize actual abuse nor manipulation. As she grew up around that environment)

but this is just my opinion :P overall it's an cute read and I recommend it <<less

Once again a review of reviews: people who can't recognize abuse calling the FL 'd***' because she does? I would stick to the empress too because she isn't (as) abusive (as the FL's father and siblings are) towards the FL. Yes she's acting but do you automatically call actors abusers? No? So yeah hope this gives people enough information to skip inaccurate reviews such as those. That way they can get a real feel for the story before going ahead and reading.

4 stars for now.

I'm currently interested in the build-up of the story and so far, it's great. But it doesn't change the fact that at the beginning of the story, it felt like once she came back to the past all the events from her past (or is it future?) had been swept under the rug. I didn't like how her past bad experience was downplayed. as soon as she came back. I'm not saying that its bad... its just that it could be done better than that. It felt... more>> like I had whiplash because of the sudden turn around. Of course she came back in time as a kid so I won't expect much but the MC not thinking about what happened in her past life seems like it is a missing factor for me in the story.

Spoiler

I love the fact where she can change the emperor's decision that saved the history of an entire Kingdom. Looking forward to how she'll use this knowledge when she grows up.

[collapse]

Spoiler

I'm also curious about how her magic will come into play. For now, what is being told in the story is the emperor and her brother competing to create cute things for her. I wanna see how she'll do with magic because it was established that she has great mana.

[collapse]

Looking forward to the update and how this story develops!

Update:

5 stars!

So far, I like that as I go on in the story, my previous comment abot the FL not using her future knowledge and her not minding the negative things that happened to her before she returned back in time is being addressed. :D <<less

i really like this!!!!

recommended, highly!

First of all, the FL is shy and those tendencies are shown in her behaviour and not just mentioned in passing. Plus her trauma and fear from her past life makes her extra careful around people.

... more>> The FL also often mentions and explains how without the screen she got scared of the dad and brother while getting attached to the empress. Her growing attachment to them is on a realistic pace.

We are also explained how she didn't know anything and everything are her was so controlled, plus the way she was brought up but submissive, and often continues to see those tendencies in her.

my fav part about this is how the dad cares about both his children. And into the trope where he's super hard on the son and a fool for the daughter.

plus the FL acts like a kid. Despite having an adult mind, despite thinking adult thoughts, her body continues to act like a child. AND SHES ADORABLE

this doesn't only have fluff but actually has a developing plot. How the FL uses her screen to help, her determination to help her family, and how she's now doing her best to avoid past mistakes (not mistakes but rather conspiracies against her). Although her memories often restrict her with fears, she continues to grow and is determined to learn what she couldn't before.

Also, for once, the FL avoids the person she knows is bad instead of the "they-are-not-like-that" trope.

This is an okay fluff read if you ignore the FL's iq + eq. She's already an adult with a cheat (thoughts and feelings are already served to her in a silver platter real time but she's still useless) and past bad experience who can think of making money but can't think of ways to protect herself from the empress' schemes, ask help to investigate or whatnot. Nada. She can only dislike the empress. My gosh. She's hopeless. Lol she can only wait for others to help her manage the... more>> situation.

As for the emperor, he failed her in the first tl. In his position, I don't get why he didn't know the truth, never doubted or investigated the empress when she's the one who holds power over MC. Tsk tsk. <<less

I think what makes this different from other series is that the FL isn't absolutely OP and villainess-like, like most other FLs. This one is a little shy and quiet, but also knows what not to fall for. As someone who is also really quiet and shy, I really like this difference.

Plus, imagining how the FL feels seeing the people who ignored her in her first life when she was at her lowest points hurts my heart... I hope she can grow to fully trust her family and make the... more>> empress kiss her a**.

I look forward for when the plot gets more intense, and when the romance kicks in, and for more family moments. And for the empress's downfall. <<less

The beginning is tragic. One of those stories where I can't wait for the FL to get revenge... cuz wow. FL is really sad and the way she reacts to people shows her trauma.

Good things first: FL has a lot of small victories right from the beginning and improves her situation. There are also a lot of ADORABLE moments and satisfying stuff from the beginning. It's nice and the status window mechanic is done in a surprisingly good way.

The negative: The annoying part for me is how she is clearly... more>> traumatized and finds it hard to trust ppl yet when she meets the ppl who killed her, she doesn't hate or blame them. (She calls the boy who executed her handsome and etc.) Also, she's just really naive and dense. Her thought process and just the way she sees people is really... below average intellect. It was frustrating to read some parts. She's slow to suspect people even with information that they clearly want to harm her. She has all the info of someone manipulating her and all she thinks is 'hm... that person is sus.' Like bro, c'mon.

I'm giving the FL the benefit of the doubt that this is all because of her being disoriented and because she's in a kid's body. I truly hope her mindset and deduction skills improve. <<less

This is a fluffy, cute story with side characters OTT crazy (in a familial, platonic way) about a princess that was killed by those same people in her previous life.

I like these kinds of stories that delve into how much of our own heartache is because of our own attitude towards people and life. Like how a girl may never go to the beach and just enjoy herself because she's self conscious. But other people don't care how she looks or thinks she looks fine and so she is ruining... more>> the beach for herself. I think all women and girls can learn from this.

Anyhoo, I'm at ch85 and there is no romance yet and the FL is only 8. So this is a slow story and at this time I don't know exactly what went wrong in her previous life, but I'm very curious to find out.

Now for the "bad". As a mother I know her initial baby-talk and actions are that of a 3 year old, not a 5 or 6 years old. So this bothered me, although I found the baby-talk cute. The FL is also a mary sue, I think? That character that does everything right, everything works out easily and she has a "super power". I tend to dislike novels with these characters, but this time I'm letting it slide.

So if you want an easy read with silly characters and some minor intrigue try this. The translation gets a little rocky at some point and I just ignored some things because I couldn't understand what was being conveyed, but overall it's a good translation. <<less

Pretty cute and sweet. The stepmom's ambitions are left a bit vague, but the two-bit villains here and there are pretty infuriating in their own ways, on different levels. The dad and brother are total daughter-con/sister-cons respectively in funny ways, lmao. Ice-faced father-son duo with heart emojis and kaomojis in their thoughts when gushing over MC.

So far it's been good going, though the... overprotectiveness? Of said Oyabaka father and Siscon (affectionate) brother seem to be a bit excessive at times. See: magician. Though I doubt that ... more>>

This is a pretty good story, however, do you like cliff hangers? Then boy do we have the perfect novel for you, as almost every chapter ends with one. It seems the author was worried about return customers, so what should have been the last 1/4-1/3 over every chapter, is the beginning of the following chapter, so much fun. (Sarcastic much? Well it is annoying.)

interesting, but I can't handle the baby-talk. It's incredibly annoying and immersion breaking, and the entire plot is centered around abuse which she is unable to talk up about because of this weird system.

Before reading my review be careful of the spoiler in between. So this book is pretty good and you can see the effort of the author trying to make this book as realistic as possible.

While reading you see most of the characters are not the best or not the worst you can figure out each individual has a unique personality and how each person expresses their expression separately from what they think.

If you see historically not many Rulers were the fairest parent or best rulers in this novel you can... more>> see it.

During the whole novel, you could see the lack of something or another thing (for example- communication, emotion, etc). While I do not see any of the characters having a very stereotypical nature.

Spoiler

The Emperor and brother CP truly love and believe in FL in the previous well current life. It's the Queen who shows false love towards the FL and ruins a lot of things for FL, she makes everyone believe that she wishes well for FL.

Well someone in the review wrote that the queen and her brother duke were powerful and kills FL, the Emperor did try to save her but could not and CP almost believed in his mother Queen.

I love how the princess slowly get rid of her insecurities from the beginning to have more proactive perspective. In addition, all of her actions are understable within the boundary of her personality, past and new friendly environment. It makes me emphasise with her much more. Other close characters and her interaction with them is also likable. Thank you for the work of translation group on the novel as they really did a wonderful work too♡
