The Male Protagonist’s Daughter

As luck would have it, Luo Shuyan unintentionally found out that she’s a character from a male protagonist novel, and she happened to be the only child of the male protagonist.

The male protagonist had intimate encounters with countless women. He rose from being one of the poorest to one of the richest in the entire kingdom. He was a man that was above all others.

Well known to all, his only weakness was his dear daughter, who had sadly passed away early on in life. Even the female protagonist, who was placed at the pinnacle of his heart, didn’t dare to mention the name of his daughter.

Luo Shuyan, who was destined to die early, was perplexed with the setting of the story.

Additionally, she found out an even more intriguing fact — The mother and son duo who lived next door to her was the heroine and son from the novel,  “Child Prodigy: Story of a Delicate Mama Fleeing with Her Child”.

#A story where the male protagonist is my father. Plus, an unbelievably cliche side-story of my childhood best friend’s mother who ran away from home#

#A melting pot of stereotypical plot points between male-centered and female-centered novels#

#Sigh, what on earth is happening?#

I think this CN's a hit or miss. For me though, the CN felt like a gentle breeze GEM.

The author took 2 cliche plotlines and made it more realistic. The novel follows multiple POV's from the children to the parents. It's a bit like Reply 1988 but their generation is younger so the problems they faced weren't the same with the drama. It starts with the toddlers age, so there is the childcare and cute children 'genre' parts. And with Reply 1988, the MC relationships were very slow going.
Spoiler

The MCs here are children, watyaexpect?

[collapse]

I say it's a gentle breeze because there's basically not much drama. But the author throws in life realisations that will make you ponder. I feel this novel is more mature and tends to lean towards the Josei genre.

For the FL dad:

Spoiler

I don't think he's scum/player. Although I don't like it that he has a lot of lovers. But he wasn't a two-timer and he went into relationships with a 'no-marriage' condition which I think sets the tone of the relationship. And hey not everyone wants to be married, so you can't really sue him. He's not husband material but he sure is a great dad. 🤔 He also raised the FL and didn't avoid dealing with her. He goes home most of the time. He just doesn't cook and he leaves her when he goes to work and that's where the ML's mom comes in (cook/nanny). How can a single dad raise a child by himself? I mean they're rich so he could afford the nanny/cook. Towards the end of novel, you see how the FL leans on him for his support and advise.

[collapse]

For the ml's parents:

Spoiler

Well, we didn't really dive into the ML's mom past. As I said, the author took a cliche start of the story and tried to deal with it as humanly as possible. I liked that the parents did not end up together and being in a successful co-parenting relationship is a win. And doesn't this sitch remind you of most couples nowadays.

[collapse]

I admit there are a couple of scenes that the author wrote to push the plot but it neither detracts my rating.

Novel not recommended to read.

MC is a goofy girl who magically is one day able to discover she is the soon to die daughter of her father who is secretly a rich man, and that her ML childhood sweetheart is the son of a running with the ball mother.

A lot of nonsense slow story ensues, with a few fodder. Mc’s father is mostly scum avoiding dealing with his daughter who is mostly raised by the ML’s mother. Mc’s father also lies to her about not being rich (supposedly to protect... more>> her) despite constantly buying her stuff, which makes his efforts pointless.

There are tons of unrealistic garbage in the novel with varying terrible events ranging from:

Mc’s father being a huge love scumbag and constantly playing with women. Also the fodder women hating on MC and Mc’s father calmly watching it happen because he’s “polite.” Man is scum.

Random person commits su*cide and dies in front of MC and ML while they are small children.

MC and her father having endless nightmares of MC dying due to her father’s negligence and Chinese creepy psycho man.

MC is supposed to die to a Chinese creepy psycho man but instead the guy kidnaps the ML who magically can just fight his way out and escape by hiding under the kidnapper’s car.

Random Chinese schoolboy pe*verts using ??? Telescopes to peep at girls showering in the girls dorms.

And the most awkward “you two can’t be together” final arc that wastes a lot of time for MC and ML being together.

Overall, there’s exceptionally little value in reading the novel especially with the lack of any payoff to MC seeing the two novels. There’s a bunch of mean-spirited flogging of ML’s biological dad because the author wants to be preachy and also never takes the time to really describe ML’s mom’s hardships. It also takes the entire novel for MC and ML to be together in the most rushed way with people (even Mc’s dad) literally telling the ML “hey MC likes you.” A mediocre novel in every way with no real sweet moments -900Quintillion/10. <<less

It was so interesting I mtled until end. And I rarely mtl fool books. It was that good at capturing my attention until the end.

Basically you can say that two books emerged into one and this led to second chance - where heroes from different books relied on each other for help.

Adults romance almost non-existent, they form strange "love triangle" where only one person is actually have feelings, but understand that he has no right for them, another too much of playboy so he never try anything with someone he really care and treat as his family and third party is... well sick and tired of love? Basically adults theme is let's concentrate on our children. Only one with s*x life is our playboy, other two monks.

And best dad here is Luo Tianyuan, our playboy, both children wholeheartedly agree, papa Lu can go cry in corner. Tianyuan is daughter s*ave but he still reliable father who always here for his daughter for fun and serious talk. Father service to some point include Shen Yan so you will see that for boy he is too example father. While reading I had that heartwarming feeling that children dote on him and trust him very much. Mama Shen start as example mother - heartwarming and sweet, she here for children to meet, feed, care and talk. Than under Tianyuan influence she slowly transform into cool business woman who ready to face her past and fight if necessary. Although I'm a little unhappy that author made her too much of workaholic and she almost disappeared at the end of book. I missed her a lot. Dads not enough! We need mother too! More scenes for mama Shen!

Luo Shuyan and Shen Yan start as neighborhood besties, than slowly while growing up they realise their feelings. Thanks to papa Luo everything went without much drama, although papa Lu unknowingly almost messed up everything. Mama Shen can only sight and thank heavens for meeting papa Luo. Papa Lu can go cry in corner.

[collapse]

Pacing of novel is very well done, everything was just right - drama, slice of life, humour and romance was mixed well. There was right amount of scenes for adults, children and interaction between them. Although I'm a little bit unhappy that there was too little scenes for mama Shen at the end, overall it was made very good. I wasn't bored and happily read until the end.

I have soft heart for grandpa so I have little hope for extras where grandson officially interact with his grandparen. I didn't find last 10 extras so don't know if my little hope did it.

I will wait for translation, as novel deserve to be re-read in higher quality. And naturally I will wait for those extras, hope they don't disappoint me, and they would be as good as main novel. <<less

I began reading this, thinking it would be a light, fluffy read, but then the unconditional love between the MC and her father made my father-issues self ache. Her father loves her more than anything in the world and seeing his love for her over and over again, and especially in the last few chapters, made me bawl like a baby.

The relationship between the MC and ML is very sweet. From the moment they met, the two have always been inseparable. Again, their love made me also bawl in the... more>> last few chapters. <<less

It was a good slice of life with slow burn romance and comedic undertone. The romance was sweet, but the love of the FL and ML's parents are the sweetest. Especially the FL's father. Due to some flashbacks and reminiscing, the readers were able to know more about his life especially when he got a daughter. His setbacks, struggles, hopes, and everything that he does since then revolves around his daughter. Yes, he as a lover seems very carefree and like a playboy (well, not really because he never cheated).... more>> But although he's not an ideal lover, he's an ideal father. I really like him a lot.

As for the ML's parents, they're not that bad (well, mainly the ML's mother). Although his parents' background story was the classic example of a sadomasochism story, I like how it ended. I actually thought that they'll reconcile but it was satisfying that they didn't. Yes, the ML's father did his best, but nevertheless, the damage has been done. He was so much of a jerk back then (well, he admitted it). Anyway, their love story can be regarded as tragic but it has a deserving ending. Shen Qingruo being an independent strong woman is much more satisfying than her going back to become a wealthy madam whose husband once caused her too much pain.

Regarding the FL and ML's romance, it was very cute, sweet, and touching. They are childhood sweethearts who are both mature in some ways. They just let nature take its course, without rushing and being impulsive. That's admirable. Furthermore, it's touching because as a reader, it's like I witnessed their growth. Yes, there may be some time to skip but they always stay together so there's no such thing as a reunion after a long separation thingy.

Also, the twist about the FL's so called dreams. I really thought she's just like others who got reincarnated into a book or something. But turns out, there's a lot of twist and turns. I won't say more than that. Only, it really broke my heart when I read the extra chapters about that part which partly explains why she knew some things. I literally cried, you know. After all, I already mentioned that Luo Tianyuan is my favorite character in this story. So reading him to be like that made me cry. (Also, I was kinda bothered where the letter she wrote to her dad went, good thing that it was still mentioned and resolved at the end).

Also, if there's one thing I'm dissatisfied about then it's the synopsis which is kinda misleading. After all, who was the so-called female protagonist? There was actually none. After all it's not actually a....

Lastly, it's a very relaxing story but nonetheless, if you ponder more about it, you'll realize a lot of things. About family, love, friendship, and life. But it was a pity that the story ended without them getting married or having children. They haven't kissed yet (well, aside from a brief peck). And the extra story was heartbreaking so I finished this story with a heavy heart and swollen eyes. But nevertheless, it's still 9/10!!! <<less

Good premise, and consistent characters you can’t help but root for. However, the same tropes used over and over was a bit tiring. Otherwise, really good continuity.

A tale of a father and daughter who are each other’s world and the friends and family around them. This story has a unique rebirth origin that I really appreciated. The majority of events are sweet childhood growth with the occasional traumatic element thrown in. I love the entire family. Especially the silly uncle.

One thought that remained in my head after the epilogue is save for our girl, her father, her best friend and his mother, arguably the tragic version of their story resulted in a happier outcome for more people. But except for the Uncle, all of those people are strangers, so I really enjoy this pocket universe our girl’s father’s sacrifice and devotion created.

I highly recommend this for anyone in the mood for a sweet slice of life childhood novel with a little tragedy spiced in to highlight the sweetness. <<less

4.5 rounded up bc damn it a good father daughter story makes me weak. Although the premise of this book starts from what is known to be " cliche stories" (her childhood friend and her dad), The execution of the relationships around the main leads and their families is very expertly done. The characterization did this novel is written very well. There are a lot of moments in this book where a character comes alive through the very minute details that's the author writes.

I don't really think anything in this... more>> novel was done with actual clichedness. Even when the male lead was so cold to the dad, (which I find to be cliche because a lot of novels will have the ML act like they never care about any childhood trauma of not having a parent) I was still surprised to find out that the developments of their relationship was also something that came very naturally and extended further than just the basic concept of what other books would have done.

This book does have a plot in the sense that it follows a father-daughter family love story and a childhood friends love story, while also uncovering why she was reborn low-key. It is slice of life in my opinion or student life I guess, but I think it's just very natural book despite the cliche premises. I really think this has one of the strongest writing for characterization. It is not overly dramatic but very subtle and it is very easy to digest because it is enjoyable not complicated writing. I wouldn't expect too much romance but It's actually enough for me to consider it a full romance. I think you would just really fall in love with the dynamic of the main families. I do recommend this book for people who both like family love and best friends to lovers love.

FYI if you want to know what happens to her letter, you have to read the extras.

Spoiler

about the extras: I usually don't read them if they talk about the past or a alternate dimension. Because a lot of times it's very left field in my opinion and it's just strictly written for the fans or written explicitly so the fans could feel sad when the whole novel was essentially fluffy. But a lot of times when authors write extras about the sad universe or whatever, it just is either completely unnecessary, something that they just need a random scene about, something that's already redundant, or like I said something that feels like it's just been written to make the fans feel sad for no reason other than to practice writing I guess. There's no real intentionality behind it other than purposely making the reader feel sad which isn't necessarily good writing. Because there's no real written motive for me to be reading about it.

So I actually really enjoyed reading about her past life and I would say it almost was the reason why I rounded this up into five stars actually. And the reason why I enjoyed this time compared to other books is because the author actually teases this life multiple times without any detail and without any word bombing in the original text. There's also a mystery linked from the original text that we only find out in the extras so it makes her writing about that life actually relevant to read. To be honest it even reads like the extras could have been a whole another book, the cliche version of the book, and that this whole book that we read was actually what would have been an epilogue to a tragic cliché book where everyone's happy in the epilogue instead. But I'm glad that we have gone this far in society where happy books like this fluffy book is the whole series of the book cuz I rather read that. Also I enjoyed the reading about the past life because it connects back to the present life and it gives clarity to why or how the story came to be to some degree. The main text does tease it, But that extras actually show it. Which show me that the author had this idea in their mind when they teased it in the main story. Which also shows that the author had intentionality behind this and it wasn't written just cuz. And that just makes it that much better. And also reads that much better as well. So I do recommend the extras because you'll get the full story and it was what bumped it up to five stars for me.

I pretty much liked this story. It just, I dont like the fact that if FL and ML together since child, then ML's mother wont be with ML's father again. Because, in past life, although they had misunderstanding, they becone together again amd happy. So, my feeling is really contradictory.

Father Luo is the best father character so far I have ever read. He was daughter s*ave but also dedicated parent who try to lead her in right way and talk to her when she is sad or confused. He would always try to protect her no matter the conditions and is responsible parent. There are so much things to describe their relationship and dependence as the only "family" members.

Aside from that beautiful familial bonds there was precious friendship (and later being companionship) between our MC and ml. You can... more>> see how their friendship formed and strengthened with every year and that bond became unbreakable even before their romance started.

It was wonderful to read all those development in their thinking and emotions that it made me feel like I have seen their life from the beginning to the end. Thank you for translating/editing and thank to the author for writing this novel too ♡ it will be in my rereading list~~ <<less

Out of all the characters, I like the MC's dad Luo.

He was a perfect dady and he'll really grow on you

A slow pacing novel from kindergarten to college shows the progress between the 2 leads.

Pure love between the 2. Love of parents to their kids.

No major setback aside from the kidnapping incident.

If I am giving any review, it's only for the extras. Really heartwarming. I am crying reading the story of parallel world where MC is already dead and a ghost which is only visible to the ml. Mc's father is the real highlight in last few extras whish is better than the whole novel in my opinion.
