When he woke up, Zhong Ziqi found that he had transmigrated over!

It’s okay that his family is very poor, but unexpectedly both of his parents are dead!

Even if both of them are dead, he is actually a Ger!

It doesn’t really matter that he was a Ger, but who could have thought that he was sold by his elder uncle’s family!

Even if he was sold, he was sold to a fool!

Zhong Ziqi was calm on the outside, but inside he was screaming: Could it be any worse?

But since I can’t do anything to prevent it, I might as well sit back and enjoy it.

However, having such a silly person to accompany him in this unfamiliar and strange world, it’s, actually…not bad too.

Super sweet and straightforward if you like that sorta thing. Not sure why Schadenfreude is so popular, especially when the enemy is a caricature.

I love these type of slic of life farmer storylines it’s such a nice change of pace from the regular drama filled novels I read. My main question is how do the Gers give birth? Like butt-birthing the kids? Anyways it was a very nice and chill paced story.

A slice of life story, no dog blood. Just foodies, and no farming. Quite typical transmigrated, selling food and get rich story. Only there’s no prince, hidden identity op affairs. Just a daily make food, make money, sweet life the end. Good relax read. Thank you

I liked this story a lot, I absolutely love it, unlike other transmigration novel who have gers or males that can give birth, this one is very refreshing, they didn’t stick the pregnancy in the middle of the book but at the end in a epilogue kind of way which I really liked

althought it’s poor to rich it’s not really over the top or op... they had a slow spaced hard work and they didn’t become overly rich..

What I liked too is the face-slapping.. usually people like to read about... more>> the mean relatives getting terrible endings but this shows what type of personality the characters have since in the end they only focused on their life and didn’t care about those mean relatives.
I liked how in the end they did end up getting a big family with MC maternals grandparents going over to live with him and they’re so sweet!
I would have like some side-stories about the side-couples but I have no complains. <<less

Rating 6 of 10.

It's an okay story, the usual selling food on the dock, the county town or the village.

No farming involved by the MC himself, author should change the title as to not misled readers.

Someone please tell me, why I procrastinated for so long before reading this novel.

It's along the lines of "My favorite ugly husband", and is really cute. It starts with a "forced marriage", where MC is basically sold off to his husband 2 days after transmigrating, while ML had a head injury a few months prior, lost his previous engagement because he became a "fool" and was then married to MC and those two were thrown out of the family by ML's parents.

But MC and ML get along well with each... more>> other and ML naturally recovers from his "foolishness". The rest of the novel is about the couple being cute, starting business, getting rich and that's basically it. There's no royality, nobility or political theme where one of the protagonists suddenly becomes an overlord and there's also no drama at all, just fluff. They're both really down to earth and stay at their small village throughout the novel (stay as in "living", they won't move somewhere else).

There are also 2 side couples and a third one which I'm shipping the most, since both people are so pitiful. But sadly they don't get much screen time...

Did I forget something? Hm, I don't think so. Oh, right. Since this is a world without woman, only men and gers... Naturally.. at the end there will be steamed little buns :P

The novel is great, the translation is ok and with 90 chapters, the novel itself is neither too long nor too short.

So my overall evaluation about this novel: If you're searching for a fluffy slice-of-life novel about starting a family and a small business in a village in ancient china, give this one a try and see if you like it :) <<less

i quite liked this... reminded me of tofuh... I'm disregarding the fact that the author chose to create a world without actual women, and limited it to men and gers, I will overlook that part... it's a very simple story; everyone of the good guys had a happy ending, the antagonists weren't so fierce, and not dog blood at all... although the main characters didn't really do a lot of farming and the ML didn't stay a fool for too long, the disconnect between the title and what actually happens... more>> in the story can also be overlooked because of the warm interactions between the characters. overall a good read <<less

Everyone else in the reviews have said all that I want to say: it is a lovely slice-of-life story featuring the MC and ML with almost no farming and their wealth is mostly from business. The romance is sweet.

What I want to highlight is the efforts of the translator to put in the pinyin of the idioms used along with the explanations. It is so helpful and allowed me to learn chinese idioms! Very much appreciated. Thank you translator!

The one thing I wanted to bring up was of the MC's... more>> life in the modern world. Its said that he was chasing a guy who eventually got engaged and there was some foreshadowing about it. I thought there would be an extra where Zhao Zheng'an went to the future too. Oh well. <<less

This is a nice, cute, and heartwarming novel. There's conflict at the first half of the novel but the latter is more fluff.

I like the flow of this novel, it is my cup of tea. The characters, the scenes, the tone, all of them just suits me well.

Overall, it's a 4.5/5 for me. (I rounded of since I can't point it into four and half stars.) Recommended if you're looking for a soothing, simple, and cute novel.

No farming at all, so total false advertis**ent on that basis. The fool is healed relatively fast but that’s not a minus because the ML is open, communicative and fun, a breath of fresh air in the realm of silent ML’s.

The side paring getting a whole chapter, the repetitive business stuff was boring. We had a ML that is fun and had the fist of the gab, so it would have been nicer to see him and MC communicating. Also the author had the chance to let them travel, instead... more>> they make first have ML leave him for business and then have MC pregnant, would have been better to see them travel together. <<less

It was a good, peaceful read, the MC and ML didn't experience any major difficulties. The author didn't leave any loose ends, he also didn't focus too much on the secondary characters, which for me was great, because I'm there to read about the protagonists, but they all had their due ends. So, if you're looking for something light and calm, something to pass the time, I recommend it.

Novel Note 4/5 stars.

Translation Note 4.5/5 stars.

In the translation at the beginning there were a lot of sayings and their meanings in... more>> the middle of reading, so for me it was difficult to get involved in the plot, because there was this break. However, later there was a great evolution, the meaning was hidden, you had to click on the sentence to see it or you could read it at the end of the chapter. I liked it a lot better that way and was able to keep reading. <<less

Translation/Writing

I read using KnoxT. The translation is better than mtl but it's not really great. The sentences are a bit awkward and there are countless small grammar mistakes. It's readable and when you get used to it, it doesn't stop the flow of reading but it is noticeable. I believe it's because the translator is new? However, they do put in footnotes and even pictures of things like the food. There is one point that might bother some people. In the first half-ish, the footnotes are directly after the... more>> paragraph in the story instead of at the bottom. Some might prefer not having to scroll to the bottom to read them, some might find it annoying to scroll to skip them to the main story. The writing style, well, there are a few more idioms than I'm used to in these farming stories if that bothers anyone.

Plot

Its a typical food, business, poor to rich, countryside story but the peak of the cp lifestyle is only up to the landlord of their village and town which I am quite happy about. The farm/business/slice of life genre is there from start to finish, unlike other similar types of stories where the cp becomes country-level powerful which then involves action and politics which I dislike. I'm here for the slice of life yo not action.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

It's a slice of life story and a food business trope. It is pretty typical, and the food is easy to believe and understand that the MC can make them. All the food are kinda normal modern day food, so it's not unbelievable that the MC can make them. I also liked that the MC and the Gong didn't have any golden fingers to be successful. It's all a bit more realistic than normal farming business stories like this. I do wish there were more details in the business of making money though, like stating the prices more in the latter half of the story. Once the money started getting bigger, the author didn't say what cost what, not as detailed as when the MC was selling the noodles at the beginning. As for any drama, there isn't much really, definitely much less than other similar stories.

I kinda wish the ML kept his childish personality for the romance part. After he got better, he became a confident person so the MC could do less work. I actually thought making the ML a fool was a good idea for slowing down the pace of the MC's business because then, only one person is the head and providing most of the effort instead of a doting ML with so much capability that takes care of everything. This way, the MC gets a lot of time to shine. As for the s*x, ugh. The s*x dynamics are the kinda typical uke gong in bed where the more the uke struggles and frowns, the more cute and excited the gong is =_=. Although the uke here is not the shy rabbit type but a confident type, I didn't like the language used. The ML will hug the MC tight and no matter how the MC struggles or pushes away the arms, he isn't strong enough and just gives up. I reaaaally don't like it. I kinda just skim, ignore the s*x parts and almost imagine the cp as other people haha.

Pacing

This is slower than other similar stories. For one, there isn't much action or drama after halfway. On the other hand, the peak of the cp is only at the village/town level for less than 100 chapters. The MC is also very cautious about trouble from being too successful so if it takes awhile to move to the next step, it is fine. At the end ish, there will be lots of tiny timeskips and time will pass by quickly so it's a little bit rushed. Although I admit, nothing much happens by then because everything is already on the right track.

Characters

I like the MC. He's hardworking and has friends instead of being focused only on himself and the ML. It's just at the beginning when you first see him, there were too many exclamations in his thoughts and words that I had a slightly bad impression of him. That disappeared once he separated from the in-laws, haha.

The ML is fine. I think it would have been nicer to have the fool ML for the whole story though haha. Cultivate all the caring feels XD I just don't like how the s*x dynamics are portrayed when he forces the MC and it is all portrayed romantically.

The side characters are all quite important here! They basically appear often and never fade away due to the plot. I like them all. There are even side pairings! The cp all also have good feelings of family and close friends with them. I find in other similar stories, the cp will treat them well but don't really put them inside their hearts.

As for the villains, they appear but are easily defeated right at the beginning and never shown in detail again. There will usually be a couple of confrontations that are shown in detail but the rest are just told in one sentence after they happen. So no drama or faceslapping unfortunately.

Recommend to turn off your brain when reading this novel. Very cliche, MC uses modern day cooking/food knowledge to earn a fortune, people think that MC is eccentric, MC discovered he has rich relatives. Dropped the novel before MC recognised his rich relatives.

Also, if you’ve read Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil 5th arc, you’ll probably notice some absurdity in the plot.

(Updated 01/22/23 - 2nd Reread) Historical Drama (Ancient China). This is very much like your typical 'modern man transmigrates into ancient times to make money' novel. It's just... hm. It's just a little more chill than the usual ones! Here, the MC, Zhang Ziqi, finds himself transmigrating into the body of a young Ger (this is a world without females, just males and males who can't give birth -- called Gers) who had been sold off by his guardians to become the wife of the village's fool (the ML,... more>> Zhao Zheng'an). After marriage, nevermind having the support of his husband's new family, they were quickly separated and forced to live in the old ancestral home at the edge of the village with only one tael of silver and three acres of farmland to start off with.

Of course, as a "poor-to-rich" novel, this start doesn't stump the MC at all. He makes use of modern knowledge and his above-average cooking skills in order to make a living (that's right, cooking. There's not much actual farming in this novel). The novel is short and relatively simple, not bad to read if you have spare time, but it's not all that exciting either. There's nothing too special about it, which is both its good and bad point. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that it wouldn't hurt to try it out, just don't have too high expectations!

The first time I read it, I only read up to c68 and rated it at 3.5/5 stars. This time, I read a little more, making it all the way to c82. Still not quite to the end, and there were times I almost gave up at the same point as last time XD But, altogether, it's not a bad experience. I changed the rating to 3.45/5 stars. Not because I thought the experience was worse than before, but because my rating scale changed since the last time, and this is more fitting.

CHARACTERS: 7/10

When it comes to characters, I think that the ones shown are pretty realistic. They're not the usual, one-personality 2D-cut outs that you see in a lot of Danmei Novels. Still, this does mean that the drama isn't as extended since they're not too exaggeratedly good or bad. So if you're looking for character conflicts, this one is lacking the usual face-slapping!

Zhang Ziqi (MC)

Transmigrator that's particularly good at cooking (although he's not a professional chef). His advantage is that he has the resolve to do hard work. And as for his personality, he's the type to have a sharp mouth but soft insides~ Close to a tsundere, but not as exaggerated.

Zhao Zheng'An (ML)

He starts off as the "Fool" of the village with his mental age being somewhere around 7-8. But he was previously known as a very responsible man full of potential.

  • Minor Spoilers:
    Spoiler

If you're concerned about his mental age staying as it is, don't worry! He recovers after a little while.

    [collapse]
ROMANCE: 7.5/10

The romance for this story is sweet and simple. The pairing gets along pretty quickly (so the novel is mostly about their established relationship). I do like the banter between the pair tho! They actually talk to each other, LOL unlike other pairings. As an aside, there seems to be at least two side couples but I never got to see it.

SETTING: 8.5/10

Set in an alternate version of Ancient China. Focuses on rural living. Both the MC and ML live in a rural village and they travel to the County to make money. Set up is pretty good, as expected, since this is mostly focused on the worldbuilding aspect!

PLOT: 5/10

I think the plot is pretty weak. It's slice of life, so that's only to be expected. There's no real big goal here (outside of getting rich?? LOL), the two are just going through their daily lives with just a hint of family drama.

RATING: 3.5/5

Although not a favorite, I didn't dislike this story! I wouldn't mind reading it again. But as I read similar novels recently, this low-key version felt a bit too slow-paced. That might be what you're looking for tho (so I suggest you at least give it a try if you're interested in what I mentioned previously!)

  • Heat Level:As an added note, this novel has a couple of on-screen NSFW scenes. But they're not explicit (as far as I know from what I read!). Like, some things will happen but there are no details (and the rest fade to black.)
  • Translation: The translation is pretty good, but the grammar is not the best, and I thought the explanations were a bit too cluttered. But that's mainly because I had already known those metaphors. If you're a beginner in CN novels, I think this is a very good start, because at least you can familiarize yourself with all the different common Chinese sayings.

Its a fairly nice, peaceful read. Very slice of life as the tag says. Not much drama but very fluffy to keep you entertained... albeit, a bit boring.

Its nice, but as far as the enjoyment goes, I can only give it a 3 star. When reading it, it even felt like a chore. I feel that a big part of this is because of the editing which definitely needs some polishing. Kudos to the team though.

The execution is also a bit lacking in some part that I cant point out.... more>> It just feels like something is missing.

Also, every character getting a love
