This is beautiful. One of the must read completed work.

It's funny, depressing, full of hope, growth, melancholy, and love.
I just love the 2 main characters so much.

It's short enough that you can finish in 2 days. But good enough that it'll stay on your mind for a long time.

Spoiler

Even in death they found each other again. I cried like a child.

At first, I thought this is going to be typical romance about tsundere girl and lonely guy.

BUT!!!!

Oh god... this story is BEAUTIFUL!!

And what a roller coaster ride!

Really funny MC with random jokes

Truly beautiful and passionate heroine

I love it! So much!

The translation went up to c113 at the time of writing this. It's the 5th (or 4th last) chapter of vol7. I read the rest (volume 8 as well as Interstellar) in JP using Chiitrans Lite and also used DeepL once in a while when I struggled with some complicated sentences. I learned JP grammar through the Tae Kim guide. I'll save the remaining volumes and chapters when the translation is done.

Most reviews pretty much stated what I felt about this story. I regret starting it, because I'm more of... more>> a fluffy romance guy who favors "early romance" rather than "slow romance." I.e.:
Spoiler

the confession happens at the end of volume 8, I'm not a fan of such stories that prolong the confession to the very end.

[collapse]
Hence I prefer visual novels over web and light novels. BUT, this story exceeded my expectations by having these extra chapters in Interstellar, only few visual novels go that far.

I.e.:
Spoiler

their life gets depicted, albeit in a short way, you read how they grow older, have a daughter, the daughter leaves the house, they travel around the world, some wonderful line of Sui being the comet that orbits around Arina. (The kanji for comet "彗星" contains Sui = 彗. The kanji for Arina's surname, Hiwa = "日羽" contains Hi = 日. Though I usually see 日 mostly used as "day", it does have the meaning "sun" as well. So it's a nice wordplay from the author's side. You'll find this in the two chapters of Interstellar.)

[collapse]

The reason why I give it 4 stars and not 5 stars is because of the slight try-hard drama at the end of volume 7 and start of volume 8.
Spoiler

Sui falls into a coma due to cerebral ischemia and the cause of it is unknown. It is suspected that his overconsumption of tomato juice could be a contributor. If you look it up, overconsumption of tomatoes does lead to some health defects, so it's not completely out of the left field but still...

A refreshingly nice rom-com where the characters are smart, charismatic and generally make sensible decisions. As someone above said, it is clearly not written by an unexperienced teenager. Personally, I guess the reason might be because of the characters' excessive use of dad jokes. They feel out of place most of the time, and for me they don't connect. That aside, I don't think that they ruin the characters, they just make the character seem more quirky, which they are.

Generally, most characters are three dimensional, and generally interesting. This is... more>> also backed up by the quality writing, which for me, is top tier compared to other rom-coms in the market.

Someone else mentioned how they are pissed off at the fMC in the first few chapters. The MC was actually more annoying to me, since he was (and is still) the worst offender of dad jokes. He also acts dumb despite being significantly smarter than he looks, and goddamit, the author really sold the performance.

fMC for me is an even more interesting character, since she is the only one out of the two who really show a crystal clear character flaw, which makes her character development ever more satisfying when you reach later chapters. She has a better backstory than the MC (since MC has a fairly normal upbringing).

As for negatives, well, not much. The only thing I can think of is that the more the MCs shine, the less the other characters. Some characters with high potential like the sensei, or MC's childhood friend, has the screen presence of Captain Marvel in endgame (and unlike Brie Larson's not showing up often being a good thing, this one doesn't). These two have huge story potential, and from what I got until this chapter, they are not just plank of woods either.

In conclusion, this is one of the best rom-coms in recent months. It has good story telling, it has a level of maturity, and the characters have a certain level charisma and development. Definitely worth a try. <<less

A well-written story with good character development unlike normal web novels of this genre. The protagonist (ML) and the FL's relationship is really interesting from the beginning. The slow romance is another plus point for the novel. It was worth MTLing including the extra chapters.

It's a wonderful story. Only issue is that... it's super slow. The pacing is basically like Oregairu, where the first like, 7 volumes don't have that much romantic tension between 8man & Yu/kino/i ; so I would just suggest you wait until like, a whole lot of chapters are out, or until it's completed. Or just binge like I did and then suffer at the fact that the series updates super slowly. T-T

The story and the FMC might be annoying at the first chapters, but she herself wanted to improve and MC also said he wouldn't endured her otherwise. This kept me read it long enough to found the story interesting instead of throw it away.

The romantic part looks chaotic at chapter 30, but something will definitely happen.

The story isn't too simple-minded, while also not too heavy. And author clearly wasn't a teenager when he wrote this.

Overall, for me it's definitely not 5 star but also more than 4.

As others mentioned, it started off as an "Oregairu knock off" but I gave it a chance and it did not disappoint at all. The characters each had their own unique personalities with the ML having a quirky loner but, outgoing type of personality while the FL had a typical harsh tsundere character but was overall likeable. The story starts off light-hearted and fresh but as it progress the drama slowly unfolds in a natural way that doesn't seem forced. It had some twists that made sense, and the flow... more>> of the story makes you stay on the edge until the very end. Overall, the story was a roller coaster of emotions and it had a very satisfying end with a very beautiful story throughout the entire read. <<less

Can't get over the fact that this novel, in my honest opinion, is the best out of all the novels I've read so far.

The pacing was good, story is comedic, unpredictable, poetic at times, and it always keeps you on the edge.

Even the ending was well made, I felt a little depressed after finishing it. Nevertheless, the rollercoaster of emotions, the words of wisdom, the banter, and even that tomato juice will forever be in my memory. I can't tell you enough how good this novel is. It is just... more>> that amazing. <<less

Beautiful novel. Took me and a lot of people on an emotional rollercoaster.

I fell in love with MC, FMC, and even the side characters, as they were all really well fleshed out, with great character growth. Loved the chemistry between MC and FMC.

The story has decent pacing, sometimes the interactions span few chapters and sometimes the story changes drastically, when u don't really expect it to. But in my opinion it didn't affect my enjoyability of the novel.

I really liked the tension and the turns midway into the story, and... more>> the ending was just beautiful and well written.

Spoiler

I legit teared up reading the epilogue, which I have only done 2-4 times in a decade reading/watching manga/anime/ln.

The coma chapter gave me "Your lie in April" Flashbacks 😢

One day, the beautiful teacher resolved to pull the school's weirdo toward the library. She says to him something like "Help me resolve her problems" and shoved him over the most beautiful but savage girl in the whole high school. She always cursed and smack-talked any and everyone. But as his weirdo was tasked with this, he resolves to see it thru the end. He puts a timely end to his going home antics and resolves to try and make the girl more sociable by both being handymen, of sorts,... more>> for the different clubs in school. And so, their relationship, but more so she, ends up developing. But there is something strange in her. Why is she like that, and what happened?

There you have it. The basic plot of what this novel is about. There is much to talk about behind this basic premise. So, follow me to the spoilers, lad:

Spoiler

The FL has dual personality. One day she is so fed up with this problem that she goes to her teacher to ask for help. The teacher doesn't know what to do and resolves to put the MC up to the task. Basically, she knows that he is a good dude and will try his best. But the boy is in the dark. It makes sense, drama-wise. But who the fack would think this would be the best course of action in the place of counseling and treatment? Dunno. I could make some excuses. For example, she did not want the FL to lose even more of the daily normalcy by doing so. But anyway, fack you for not going to try at least a double approach. I mean, realistically speaking, this could end up worse than it all began. This romantic view of conditions doesn't rub so well on me. Not that this is a turn-off, this novel is still great plot and drama-wise, maybe more so in payoffs, not so plot, as I will point out soon.

Continuing over this little rant. One day the boy ends up discovering her secret. She changed after seeing and talking to an old acquaintance. He finds it strange how much she is different while talking to said person. Afterward, she ends up opening up about her condition. Regardless of my previous pet peeve, this is very nice to see. She finally confides in him and tries to open up more to the others. Even talking and dealing with other people. It is very nice to finally see it. But then a problem in the form of the MC's indecision appears. He gives signs of liking her, and she does too. So, it gets frustrating seeing their interactions.

Disregard the following if you want. It is a rant about a minor filler that adds nothing to the plot but ended up activating my almonds and I got pissed off. So I decided to rant it there.

I would like to add here a little rant if you don't mind. Right around the middle point of this novel, or a little before that, a upperclasswoman comes close to MC and asks for his help. She has a sticky ex that still follows her around and wants to deal with him. So she says that she will help him deal with the dual personality problem. He helps her, and she gives him some pointers. All nice and good? Not exactly. She says that when she was in a relationship with the other boy, she ended up falling in love with some rando somewhere, so she decided to end it all up and be done, as she does not love her boyfriend in the face of the new person. But she never gave him a real motive, in the sense of telling him that she does not love him anymore and is in love with someone she saw somewhere. I got livid reading this. For real. She dealt with him following her for 3 years, 3 f*cking years. Just come clean with him already and say it. In the end, even the MC thought she was in the right. I got beyond pissed then. It kind of killed my enjoyment and reading flow. I know that personal interactions and whatnot are complex. But dude, 3 years. It was 3 years. And this f*cking filler brought nothing to the table. It was something the MC should've known by the time. He could just f*cking google it or at least try and talk to a psychiatrist. Do you know what is worse yet? This plot point was removed by the ending. The TL near the end changed the raws for the paperback version. That just axed all this and some other minor details... So my rant is f*cking useless. Yay me. (Not really. If you end up in this kind of situation just come clean. Do not still give some vain hope to your partner, making the person believe that they still has a chance. I know that the dude is in the wrong here. Hell, he still tried to come together with her after 3 years. I would just say "Fine" and go on living. But I'm not an example and people can be much more... intense than usual. Just know that sometimes just saying the truth is better, for both of you. I just got pissed that the girl was shown as more in the right, roughly speaking, and it seemed kind of shitty if you ask me.)

Rant over.

After some problems with the dual personality appearing more, MC ends up learning the whole truth. FL has memory gaps. She does not remember a good portion of her life. It means that the other personality was active and was the one that lived thru all that. They put notes in a diary to know what each one did and said. To deal with this problem, they resolved to come clean with FL's mother. I do not even need to say that her mother breaks down and comes clean with MC. The trigger for the problem was FL's father, a drunkard loser who abused her, beating her to vent his frustrations. Talk about heaviness. And about a person completely underprepared to deal with something so serious. But this is fiction so... Life goes on and he tries his best to help FL to get better while being conflicted about what really should be better for her.

After a while, they continue growing closer and closer. All nice and cool. Until her father shows up (he was locked up). It is very dramatic, to say the least. More so if you consider that she basically forgot him to protect herself, thus creating the second personality. FL then learned about what happened and try to deal with it. As she has MC's help she continues to go on with life. More than that she even visits his home and decides to make him a Valentine's choco. When all is going well and they seem to be going for the confessions... her father died.

Now I will come clean with you. I did not see that coming. This was the trigger to make her split personality "disappear" and it all merged together again. With this she finally remembers all the suffering she passed first considering the abuse, then by the girls in this and the school she was in before, that bullied her because of her beauty. It seems like a nice ending for her problem, even if it comes out of nowhere and seemed to be unreal. But there is a problem... she forgot all about MC. And I mean it when I say all. To the point that she even forgot his sister. Then started a drama that I liked and don't.

The thing is, from his point of view the job finally ended. He cured her, and she finally is not completely antisocial and does not have a second personality So all is nice and good, no? Considering that he manage to do that, against all odds, and she became a functional person, he rationalizes that it is better that she does not remember him so that she doesn't suffer more. And I like that. Very much so. It is a romanticized version of one of the oldest tropes in romance, getting away for the best of your beloved. But I got the feeling that it was done to add drama. It makes sense for that to happen, don't get me wrong, I can understand the explanation and all (not that it seems believable, but anyway). But it adds some nice parts to it all when the people around notice how the relationship between the pair changed, or how she does seem to remember him. And when she finally confronts him it is very nice to read. (Here I would like to say to MC: learn how to cover your tracks well. You could've said to her that you were only friends that worked as handymen because of what the teacher demanded or whatever. It was a nice resolution, but I wanted an ending where they drifted apart more and for real. Until at least she remembered him. And then they end up reconnecting after high school is over. Being extremely sincere, it would be nicer than what is to come. If this seemed like forced drama, I don't know what call what comes next.)

After some filler (that happens to show how much of a nice guy MC is... why is it so?????) FL is tense for some reason. She rationalizes that she loves him and wants to confess (what she does) even if she does not remember him. She knows rationally that it makes zero sense, and it puts even more pain in MC's heart. But she loves him so much that she, as someone without all her memories, is not the same person he comes to love originally, wants to show it so before she remembers him and turns into someone else. It kind of makes sense, maybe...? From a romantic point of view it is amazing, sure. It is like she is saying they are destined to be together and she is in love with him even considering that she ended up knowing him for so little time. It seems like a nice ending, no? The jokes are on you. MC ends up in a coma for 3 years (again 3 years, you pulling my leg author...).

The thing is, MC chugged tomato juice like a maniac. So his heart burst. Kinda. Now this was a forced drama if I ever seem one. It seemed more like the author said "I need something more spicy to end this" and this is what he come up. Sense-wise, it is fine, he was s*upid by chugging something like that, and it paid off. But dude, after all they've gone thru... this? It is nice seeing how deep is her love for him. She still makes time to go see him, even not knowing if he will one day wake up, or even survive for all that matters. Everyone ends up walking away, continuing to live. But there she is by his side 3 days a week. Sad and beautiful, for sure. In the meantime, she ends up remembering him again and loving him even more. And one day he wakes up and all is well. It kinda shows how hard it all was for him, psychologically speaking, but I wanted a little more (if you are going for full forced drama, now was the time). But it ends up nicely with the two together. More so, and what made me give this 5 stars, it really shows it thru the end of the story of the pair. It was a nice ending note, I tell you that.

[collapse]

So, after all is said and done (it was a long spoiler...), the TL;DR is: This is a nice tale of two people that end up discovering one another (in more sense than one) and help one another (same as before) to do and be better. I still think it got an excessive amount of drama. It is nice to be surprised and all, but at one point I ended up thinking "isn't this too much already?", but it is still a nice healing story regardless. And it ended up very nicely too. So, give it a try. Just be ready to shed some tears and be pissed off. But you will laugh too, a lot.

Notice: This does not end in chapter 132. It has a "final chapter" and an epilogue (that is extremely nice to read, even if kind of sad at points). Be aware of this.

Spoiler

I wanted to know more about some of the secondary characters' endings, but you can't always have what you want. At least Tsuru's and the going home athletic team ending would be nice to know, even if it was a single paragraph.

At around ch 80-100 I would've rated it 5/5, but I really didn't enjoy that last arc. If it had ended there, I would've been rating the series a 2/5, but the ending itself was beautiful and bumped it back up to where it is now. It genuinely felt like the author got bored of the book and decided they wanted to write something more tragic. That whole arc felt entirely unneeded up until the end and just made me feel bitter about the series. Also a little annoyed that... more>> the author's revised version basically removes the slice of life portions in the middle which were my favorite arcs since it showed how their relationship changed and showed a lot more of their character.

Overall I enjoyed this. The characters were weird but great. The main character is the class goofball, and his monologues actually reflect how weird kids like that at that age tend to actually be. The girl's development was overall great, though I didn't enjoy some of the later developments. It's still a quality enough work I'd be comfortable recommending it to people who are familiar with the tropes. To me the last ~third of the novel feels like an entirely different book was tacked on though. <<less

First of all, Thanks Iyo and Dodo for the quality TL/ED, and for being so steady in the chapter uploads. I can't wait to see what you'll bring us next, and I'll keep following your other TL's

Contrary to what you may think when you read the synopsis, and may think when you read the first chapters. This isn't the "normal outcast boy meets beautiful girl, they fall in love and have many fluff situations until they start dating" troupe.
I'm not going to sugarcoat it... You will suffer when reading... more>> this. While it ends on a happy note, I think I consider it bittersweet.

If you are like me who wanted to see a 100% fluffy story that has little to no drama, I don't think this one is for you. If I had knew this was a heavy story, I surely wouldn't have read it. While it does have sweet moments, for the most part you won't have any of that.
That said, I'm glad I did, it was a wonderful experience and I recommend it to anyone. The story may seem tedious and really stretched at times, but for that ending, and the message it's completely worth your time.

The ML is a realist, and the FL is an optimist. This is a really important distinction in the novel since for the most part you'll see the both of them suffer and how they act when some major things happen.
When you see how he acts, it shows you that while being realist is all fine and great, you should be optimistic at the same time. If our ML would have been like that, we could have seen something different.
The FL definitely had it harder, and seeing how she acts in her situation is really charming. Thanks to her being optimistic we saw another way to handle a hard situation, and how that thought helped her grow really makes you think that being optimistic is a good thing.

I don't have the words to describe how I'm feeling but I sure as hell enjoyed this one...

This is just me, but the thing I didn't like is how wonky the WN is at the beginning, and how the MC acted at a certain point in the story. It's a difficult situation to be in and I understand it since I think I'd act the same way, but there's one moment that really made me mad. Things could have been different <<less

Words cannot describe how good this novel is. Not one part felt cliche or cheesy. Every character is unique and three dimensional, you can see their growth throughout the chapters. The MC isn't your typical dense ignorant MC, nor is he a gloomy self deprecating person either. The only problem is that this story feels too short, although if it was longer, I don't know if a longer story would be better though, I just want to continue reading this amazing story.

This was an amazing read. The MC's personality is hilarious and his inner monologue and dialogue often had me laughing my ass off. Although the sugar in this story is severely dialed down, there are still (scarcely) a few cute moments here and there. Most of all, though, was the drama arcs and FL's backstory. Its definitely a worthwhile read, one of my favourites so far. It has left quite the impression on me. The character development was evident, and moreover, the premise is just interesting. Although the title may... more>> not look special at one glance, the story is far better than what it suggests.

Edit: Now that the story has ended, I can only say that it has only gotten better. This story was seriously beautiful, I can't describe it with words. Throughout the 134 chapters in this story, I've felt so many emotions, joy, sadness, anticipation, tension, and so on. After all of that, the ending of this story was simply beautiful, I can't begin to describe it with words. So, please, please, please read this story throughout to the end. Its seriously amazing, nothing short of a masterpiece. Theres so much I want to say, but that would be spoiling the story, so I won't. Thats all, I hope you read this amazing story.

Great story overall, I've finished reading the raws so I hope the translations catches up soon.

Try to battle thru the first few chapters and later on you'll understand why the FMC does what she does. The story isn't a straight forward romance, instead, there are a lot of realizations instilled on the characters on important arcs.

Definetly a good story especially if the translations will be completed
