Due to an accident, a rich and handsome man from modern society became a man’s wife in ancient society.

Just being a man’s wife was not enough.

His husband was also a secondhand product with two children.

Just being a secondhand product was not enough.

The secondhand man was also a poor and ugly man, who was blind in one eye.

Shao Yunan was very dissatisfied with this.

Very, very unhappy.

Warnings from readers

At first I thought it was just that the translation wasn't very good, but I pulled up the raws and I don't think the original novel is that well written either. There are a lot of characters and complex interpersonal relationships, but they don't go over in the book very well who is related to who how and often times people are brought up in the story well before they're introduced, or it's just barely brushed over. After a while it's too hard to keep track of who is who.... more>> Plus the translation calls two or three different people 'patriarch' and there are quotes from multiple people talking in each paragraph with is janky. <<less

The earliest chapters where MC was blastering the original's (fake) family was thrilling, and ML also calm yet cold attitude toward his asshat family didnot disappoint me. Reading those made me continued to read the novel eventhough there was that space-miracle spring water-the usual golden finger which was used through and through in this novel to the point it made me desperate of 'enough, dont make it OP pls'.

There was this arrogancy and the mindset of modern people thinking, of no killing, no s*avery, no pregnancy for man, etc. Some... more>> thing was okay but when he got kidnapped TWICE because he was too arrogant thinking 'no need bodyguard ust to walk in the village. No need precaution even though he made enemies left and right'.

ML was a bit dull at the beginning and then turned the same 'love and fear husband'man. Just the usual husband type. He supported the MC and was willing to to learn more of MC's knowledge.

Although, some things still made me asking myself of 'did that passable'? But I think, I'll just let it go.

As for the 19yo and 60yo couple. The 19yo man was totally willing, even seduced the old man himself first. Also, please remember the age of consent in this novel's setting was 15 year old. This is novel with the ancient setting and value. Do not get angry when you read such thing. Get angry when it becomes too boring, too OP, etc. Or get angry with the author for putting such plot lol

Another I like from this story is the royalty family. There was no much money or treasury. The emperor's private wealth was also taken. But he had a clear mind and brain, maybe because he lived such live when he went to war with his male wife who now his empress. YuuAn thought of making business with the empress as his patron so he could have the highest power as support. Unknowingly the monarchs needed his help more, so they formed one trust and build the country together. <<less

I like this! I don't understand the low rating tbh, are we even reading the same novel? Yes there is some cliche trope but I think it's well written and interesting, there is no true evil character (exp maybe the ML's mother) and almost everyone was given a second chance to redeem themselves. I know some novel where the revenge can go too far sometimes but this one was done in humane way. The only point I don't like was the whole immortal/magic (?) element, I get why the author... more>> decide to add it in but I feel like it's starting to venture into a different genre 😂. Also for Guo Zimu and King Luo Rong
Spoiler

I don't think it was bad tbh, keep in mind this was in ancient time setting so age gap like a these two cp is considered normal. Also both of them consented to the relationship. They both mutually like and respect each other so all those reviewers harping about how problematic these cp are should really stop reading BL as a whole cause there are a ton of more problematic theme in most BL novel/manga/manhwa

Overall just ignore the reviews who give low rating because I hold off reading this novel because of the low review but it turn out better than expected! <<less

Reading it at ontimestory. eu

I quite like the story, although, I wish the ML had more spotlight, like equally to MC. It would’ve been much better!

These are my thoughts throughout the novel:

Spoiler

Currently, I’m like 30 chapters in. I hope ML steps up more and shows his skills because he’s really get outshined by MC. I like the babies, but I hate hate hateeeee the family of Wang Shijing (ML)... GO DIE IN A DITCH OLD LADY! 👹

She gets on my nervesssss, the fact she could even force a 3 year old to do labour and be jealous of a 4 year little girl for having jade earrings? Wtf Is wrong with these people! Honestly, someone needs to put her on a leash or something! Or even chains, she’s disgusting.

ML suffered a lot, I hope he becomes more more competent in the future so they are equally worth eachother. It does feel a bit insecure because MC could easily leave ML due to all these problems. I personally wish ML was put more on the spotlight and would show his personality more. He’s is FRICKING Handsome, I wouldn’t mind me some hot lad with a scarf vertically crossing his face!

The face slapping feels soo good 😭

The only few people in Wang family is the Wang Shuping and Wang Qian!

The kids are too cute man 🥺

ML got quite the rod...

ANYWAY CHAPTER 44 🫢... He probably can’t walk...

Man’s bedridden 😂🤣😂 (Chapter 47)

[collapse]

I’m doing it for now due to work issues and I have stuff to do, so I shall read this later! I really like this novel, just hope the ML steps up more into the limelight too, not just have MC shining throughout. Yeh I deffo have a thing for strong and dependable gongs 😭! I do like that the MC is a strong shou but I would like it if he relied on ML more <<less

Strong start. Story has a slice of life feel to it, especially towards the end. The author went from writing the story to summarizing it. The political intrigue was not deep, but it was not bad. Most villains rushed to their own deaths. The negative portrayal of 'barbarians' was distasteful due to being a little one sided. No modern extras, but the author did attempt to pull off a final twist.
Spoiler

The MC took statue (s) from an auction into his space. It caused the space to upgrade and the statue (s) to glow. I THINK they were a pair, but I'm not certain. It was kept around the pregnant empress as a safety charm until one day it suddenly disappeared from youngest child's room. Extra implies it turned into the child's space. The prince (his future spouse) might have a space too if it was a pair. MC said he would ask empress if the other one disappeared but there was no follow up. We don't get to learn anything about his character since he has so few scenes. I thought the story might show how their actions affect the future, but it doesn't. We also never see any real cultivators in this cultivation world or find out why no one can get pregnant without eating a fruit. We never see a fruit fail, so I'm not sure why males would be less fertile in a world where pregnancy is promoted by a catalyst. We never see anyone growing this fruit even when MC is entrusted agricultural tasks by the emperor. It's a little sus.
I'm most disappointed that we don't get to find out whether Wang Zhisong was able to stick it out and fully reform in the military camp.

I love the drama, love the interaction, love the MC and ML. At first did not expect the golden finger but oh well- it was still nice. I love the children too- so adorable. The Zizhong guy being made a bad guy seemed forced though but apart from thata, I felt the story so far is balanced and the progress is great. Please release more and great job to the translator!!

5/5 really reminds me of transmigration of mian (which is another one of my favorite ancient china bl's), novel is based in like historical ancient china, MC has a space, there's farming and business, 2 cute lil babies, there's an age difference (it's kind of hard knowing that he's only 16 and there's a 10 year age difference between the MC and ml... I really really hope there's no seggsy scenes until he's of age), I guess the only difference would be... MC & ml's personality???

mc's a cutie pie firecracker... more>> which I looooove
Spoiler

bruh, MC really said f*ck you to ml's family and stole a f*cking DONKEY to prove his point, he also threatened them with a f*cking AXE - im DYING.

ml's a big softie and
Spoiler

it seems like he has insecurity/whole lot of mental health issues, which is totally understandable and acceptable bc he got thrown under the bus by his so called "family" aka his evil bit*h mother. He served in the military, got disfigured, had to do forced labor, served in the military again (for extra years bc of his shitty mom and brother), his wife left him bc his mom was so horrible and abusive af. you can tell he was going through some BAD depression by the time he came back.

If you were a modern man and reincarnated into an ancient world what would you do? For the MC (Shao Yunan), he not only tries to improve his living environment after adapting to the new world, but he also devotes himself to improving the conditions of his country. Generous in sharing his knowledge with the people around him, MC not only helps improve the wine and tea business he is good at but also develops (singlehandedly) the "backward" ancient Chinese (Dayan) state by contributing modern ideas in areas... more>> of economy, welfare, education, military, etc.

Admittedly, the first few chapters are loaded with information. That said, the chapters does get better and the story becomes richer. With the quick-witted and eloquent MC, there is no dull moment---he always manages to give the readers a surprise. (Even he side characters, who are infected with MC's charismatic aura, adopt some of his ways.) The author also does a very good job inserting comedic events and conversations to make the story even more enjoyable. Because every characters has their own struggles and sad backstory, the resolution is all the more satisfying.

While there aren't many heart-racing plotlines, the depth of the details that make the story feel realistic. If you enjoy world-building and learning about Chinese culture and society, you will likely like this book.

***BEWARE SPOILERS***

Comment on the Main Characters:

Undoubtedly, the appearance of the MC drastically changed the direction of the story and the fate of the Dayan state. While he was clearly upset with the situation he found himself in, Yunan soon became actively involved in his community. The business-minded MC knows how to make connections, which is the main reason for his success. Given his own experience in modern society, his eyes for people and resources is second to none. Coupled with his space storage ability, his success is almost guaranteed. Additionally, while he has a sharp tongue to outsiders, Yunan is actually very kindhearted and protective of the people who he regard as his own. Even for those who are "evil", he clearly distinguishes those who can be "saved" and offers a helping hand to them. He is the main reason why many people have a clear change in identity. (The most drastic and rewarding changes, in my opinion, are with Jiang Moxi and Guo Zimu.)

Many people in the story are jealous of Wang Shijian and said that he is not worthy of Yunan. While this is true to an extent, I feel like I need to make an argument for the ML's sake. The main reason why Yunan chose to stay with Wang Shijian even though the two clearly talked about divorce in the beginning is because it was clear that Wang Shijian is a honest, hardworking, and supportive man. The marriage started as a failure because of the two's abhorrent family intervention, and neither two direct parties involved consent to the marriage. However, it became clear to the two characters (and the reader) that they are actually very well matched to the other. As a modern man, Yunan wants absolute freedom. Wang Shijing understands this and is very supportive and permissive of this wife/husband---a quality that is very hard to find in a patriarchal ancient society. Additionally, Yunan has a coveted ability of "space" that produces "spiritual water/milk." The fact that Wang Shijing can keep his honest nature despite Yunan's attempts to bait him into asking made Yunan have absolute trust in this man. The marriage certainly did not start with love, but it became one that is bound by mutual trust and respect between the partners. The two people have compatible natures; this alone makes Wang Shijing the best choice for Yunan. If Yunan has to find a "worthy" guy, he might as well go single (since he really is too capable!). I'd argue that there is no one better than Shijing, who offered the unconditional support that Yunan needed to do whatever he needs to do.

After thinking about the pros and cons of the story, I've arrived at the rating of 4.0/5. Here's my interpretation...

What I liked:

    • Developed Side Characters: There are a lot of characters, but they all have their own struggles and objectives that are both clear and consistent. The author focused a lot of attention to developing these characters, and it was fun to watch their character growth.
    • A Strong MC: No matter what obstacles MC faces, he always has ideas and is resilient in the face of danger. In a sense, he always puts himself "on the chopping board", but somehow finds a way out every time. His sharp tongue makes the first half of the novel entertaining.
    • Tension/Drama of the Family: Which ancient Chinese story can escape the struggles of the clan/family? I'd say the Wang family affair is quite an accurate depiction of what society in like in the backcountry, especially with the connections between clan members and the constant (meaningless?) squabbles/pestering: Mrs. Wang constant pestering. The neighbors' tendency to gather to "see the fun." The ties of the family and clan members. The fact the only scholar in the family is privileged... These are all accurate depictions.
    • Exploration of Psychology: While some reviewers have problems with the label of autism as a "disease", they need to understand that there is no real terminology to better say what this state is called back in ancient society. Besides, Shao Yunan is not prejudiced against Jiang Moxi for this and offers him with all his support. He believes in the fact that Jiang Moxi was simply unable to open up to the world around due to his terrible experiences in his previous home. Therefore, I find the plot of Jiang Moxi slowly finding himself to be a member of and become involved in Shao Yunan's family to be extremely rewarding. I also find the fact that Moxi being able to only say telepathic (short broken phrases) despite being a genius is accurate: He is past the age to learn full speech.
What can be improved:

    • Problem of inconsistent characters:
        • In my opinion, the author does not understand their own characters well enough. There are some decisions and actions that are inconsistent with the earlier portrayal of the characters, especially Shao Yunan. It could be said that MC was extremely active in the earlier chapters in their county home but became more passive after coming to the capital (even more so after he got pregnant). Indeed, at the later chapters the author focus primarily on the side characters, and the MC gradually became more of a backdrop. The author states that the MC could only obey the rules of the ancient Chinese after he became a lord, BUT this "acceptance of fate" isn't consistent with MC's belief that people can change things by their own hands. In my opinion, MC is not the type of person to give into fate and he is more likely to correct the things that he don't like especially in his own home.
        • Another inconsistent character is the ML, also in terms of the contrast between his self in the village and in the capital. I believe that as a person who lived most of his life in the village, he was too quick to accept his reality as a government official. Even if he did serve in the military before, he should at least of struggled with this new identity. (In this regard, the MC was more realistic.) He understood and did exactly what needed to be done as soon as the emperor gave him his new title. He is too calm and the fact that he doesn't make any blunders makes me feel that this is inconsistent with his background.
    • Making the MC pregnant: The whole incident with Shao Dafu was to make Shao Yunan pregnant with the ML's child. The MC was clearly against getting pregnant, so given the fact that he got pregnant because he accidentally ate the pregnancy fruit simply felt forced. I don't find this appropriate. If the MC doesn't want to, nobody should force him---the author included. Not all stories need a baby to be a happy ending.
Note: I don't rate based on the quality of the translation. I only rate the quality of the plot and the characters. <<less

The translation I read is from ontimestory up to C106. It's pretty good, no complaints. The rest I read through mtl. It is understandable most of the time. And how to say, thte story is a typical poor to rich ancient time type of story so I didn't need to know everything to get the direction of the story iykyk.

I accidentally pressed 1 star, but still, my rating would have been 2 stars.

So where to start...
This novel starts nice, but as it progresses to the end it its becoming more and more annoying ? Weird?

First of all, the MC is a transmigator for modern times to ancient parallel world. He is a male wife (not a ger! its a different take) , so he as a modern man takes quick action with establishing boundaries while face slapping all that wronged him.

Great ! Good even, those people deserved it. But then, we have the same thing again and again with the same people that the MC and ML supposedly, separated from. In essence, we have the whole trope of separating families, but for some reason, this trope doesn't work here. The ML not once or twice, but 4, I think, does his last filial duty and I keep wondering if separating families was such a big thing, then how can it be disregarded in this story? Its contradictory to all the other stories I ve read with this storyline.

Next, we have the language used in the novel. I'm sure it's not the translator as their work is excellent, but I always find it annoying when modern language is used in different eras as it really doesn't make sense.

After that, although I don't know a lot about autism the author could have explained the recovery or the issue with the kid a little bit better and not used a disability this way.

Then we have the whole thing that women are vicious and are not able to be objective etc etc. Plus, his daughter only has to be pretty and do nothing else. Again the author contradicts themselves because at the beginning he was like she doesnt have to marry and she can be a businesswoman etc etc... After which, we have the engagement of the two kids, which while I understand that in the setting of this world, children can get marry early, for me it was a little bit weird (she was only five) although I caught on early where it was going. The whole woman - man thing really was unexpected because the author has some good woman side characters.

The Zumo relationship didn't bother me, although I would have preferred if he was paired with some other character that I got to know better.

A thing that I liked was the ML gets to learn of his past quite early on, as it creates IMO a good bond between the MC and the ML.

Lastly, I feel like its not "realistic" (yeah I know what am I talking about in fiction) how the MC deals with his enterprises. He brings forth modern topics, products etc, but the foundation is weak and it shouldn't actually work in such a small time period he tried to do these things. If it have been in a span of years it would have been more believable and more understandable.

I was actually planning to read it again, but as I'm nearing the 200 ch I'm not so keen to do it again.

I can understand why some people don't finish the novel because yes the scum family gets really annoying but if you finish reading the novel it's still worth it!

Modern to historical transmigration type novel (it's similar to one of my other favorites)

Face slapping/ family schemes / schemes and conspiracies/ animals (they have pet tigers) / country development/ business/ smart protagonist/ older ML mpreg marriage space magical space

The husband is not actually indifferent to his kids he's just awkward at the beginning because he just returned from war and... more>> he basically just got to know his own kids. Plus when he returned from the war a previous time he tried his best for them and even left all he could to them but their mom ran off with another man and all the money he left for the kids. Plus he suffers a lot from his family too.

Happy Ending! + A baby! <<less

It's been a long time since I have completed this novel and I almost forgot about it untill I saw it again today, I really think such low rating is unjust for this novel because there are many tr*sh novel with higher rating than this sooo it's rating should at least be 4 or above in my opinion

The only problem I have is that this novel is a little toooo similar to mian reluctantly becomes his man wife

It's like I am reading a exact copy of it, but I guess... more>> this novel also have it's plus point it's a good read to pass time with till how much I remember this novel have some smut scene which MRBHMW did not have and focuses more on emotions which is a plus point, though plot and characters wise I like MRBHMWM more I am not really a fan of commenting but I did just because of its lower rating 😔 which I find very unfair given the fact that it was mostly given by people who think autism is potraid as a disease here let me tell u there are many stages of autism some people have less of it's symptoms some people have more and those who have MORE major symptoms they NEED to go psychiatrics who specialises in lessening their symptoms. So no need to become so defensive over it <<less
