The worldbuilding is arguably the best part. Our MC has understandable motivations (he's been kidnapped and ens*aved, so he wants his freedom/dignity back and to return home), the world seems to abound in opportunities for him to achieve his goals. The problem is, the MC is dumb as a brick. While he seems to have a very strong will, it doesn't feel like he's really tried to find a solution (eg, what are the different avenues to freedom? How exactly is s*avery enforced, how can we exploit the situation?).

This story... more>> is a railroad, and not a particularly good one. It's artificial, contrived, and I'm literally incurring cognitive damage with each chapter I'm reading. So much potential in this setting, all wasted by a dumb MC. <<less

Segggs....

Need I say more.

Each of the FMC are written super well and their dynamics with the MC is subarashi.

And did I say seggs.

The 'cultured' scenes are better than videos bro. Very well written. Never fails to make you do 'certain stuff'.

Also there is a very detailed magic system behind this and a genuinely intresting world being built right before our eyes. With only 44 chapters I can say this will be a novel to be remembered.

I will rate this novel a Mommy Sophia out of 5.

This is a generally good novel, I'd say perfectly rated due to the plot. As I have read ahead, I have mixed feelings towards the novel. It basically started as ecchi immediately from the start. I enjoy it, as it has adequate and detailed writing, that even though there are no visuals, it is clear enough to imagine it if you have a dirty mind. The plot itself is good, as it sometimes go from fun, pleasure to a depressing scene. But, it kinda gets boring after a while, I... more>> began reading it less, after a certain accident happened. Even though it gets boring after a while, It's still fun to read a chapter or two everyday. Definitely should try, considering it's good plot and astounding writing. <<less

Ive very much enjoyed this novel so far for the limited amount of chapters we have had, the writing style is my cup of tea along with the "fun" scenes and I cant wait to continue reading it in the future. Ill edit this review as the story progresses and go into more detail.

The novel is very very good while the MC was very bland and feel very generic at the start it's absolutely not the case, ... more>>
Spoiler

we learn for example that before coming to the witch world he was a very good mathematician wich help him picking magic way more easily

[collapse]
the s*x scene and the fights are well written and the character development are very very good

For example I really loved the reaction of the MC when he learned what Amelia did to him or

when he finally returned to his world and the whole set-up for the fight between him and another witch and the fact that the fight was so logical

So yeah overall it's a good read and you should read it even if the first chapter aren't really the best. <<less

City of Witches offers an intriguing premise of a genius mathematician getting stranded in a secret city of witches. Forced into labor there, he discovers magics' similarities to math, allowing him to learn witchcraft. This fresh take on the transported to another world trope hooked me right away.

The extensive worldbuilding brings the witch city of Gehenna to life. It slowly unveils details about how the city operates and the witches who inhabit it. The magic system with its grounding in mathematics is creative and adds depth.

Our protagonist Shin Si-woo makes... more>> for an intelligent, willful MC. His determination to escape and survive despite the challenges he faces makes for a compelling underdog narrative. I appreciated seeing his character grow as he gains new skills and experiences over his five years trapped in the city.

I feel like the premise is too good for the smut in this story, which is why I really didn't appreciate when the smut was a large portion of the story. Some of the serious topics feel hard to take seriously because of this. But I've heard the smut takes a backseat later on, so I'm reading with that hope in mind.

Overall the fascinating setting draws you into the story. Author seems to have a creative vision of a modern witch society, and it can also be seen as a twist to the trapped in another world genre. I'm excited to see where this imaginative tale goes next if what the readers who've read ahead said is true about the smut decreasing. <<less

this was a good novel, magic, world setup, characters, relations etc etc and I enjoyed it but I guess this is where I drop it
first problem is not about the novel but the mtl, it was bearable at first but from the ch 250 it got hella worse imo, but I would still bear with it buuut
I dont really enjoy drama's, and this novel has one every once in a while. if its goodly written I would read it but this novels drama's are nearly always way too forced and unnatural that I cant stand it. I understand its magic world so most things will get solved (or get handled) very differently, but almost all the time author chooses normal developments for relationships, yet needs to bring up magic stuff all the time for drama to create bs.
disc: next spoiler is more of a me being frustrated rather than a review)

Spoiler

I m at the point where he f*** elroa, and got his memories erased. you might understand my anger/dissatisfaction if you remember it, like at first mc's IQ nerfed by %90 so that he wouldnt understand what elroa is saying and got elroa misunderstood the whole situation, and then twins make a love potion "AGAIN", just for this whole drama to get bigger (I know that author made twins socially inept and slow af but even then they would rething before pulling some s*** again (basically the third time if we count sharon too) , then made everything convenient to the point that it didnt make any sense anymore (so somethef***how elroa is able manipulate memories, but unable to see through sloppyly made love potion by appreantice withces, WTF. btw I wont even talk about how elroa didnt see through mc's attitude doing a 180degree turn just because she was flustered a bit)

[collapse]
aside from that, I dont really like how magic gets handled for mc

Spoiler

everything was ok at first but after some time it slowed down and after elroa came it kinda dissapeared. like he had reaaly good abilites like making more mana through duplicating with very good puirty and inherited the ribbons, whytf is he making armor and fighting with swords ? ribbons gets more attention in s** scenes rather than fights lmao. Btw wtf happened to the tree he drew in his autistic state? why author just threw it there and left it for more than 150 chapters?

[collapse]

and my final problem is, mc
MC was a very good character at first, altough undeveloped with a weak mentality, we saw him develop and stood his guard and try to cope with his problems as best as he can yet through all of this he was still a human and had emotions, but
Spoiler

after he meets sharon, he turns into a normal shonen MC rather fast (aside from all the f*** and bit of a tragedy from amelia)

[collapse]
he certainly got mundane and boring after that, like atm it feels like I m reading a slow life manga MC and worse is he is the kind that gets always pushed around...
.
again, this is a very good novel, even for non ero ones. but the problems of this novels problems doesnt seem like it would end and seems like it would get even worse than that, which destroys my hopes and stops me from continuing

Surprisingly well written. The story follows an interesting plot and all of the characters have great depth, however the author is way too h**ny. I am shocked that this doesnt have a smut tag. For the first 60 or so chapters its not too bad, but after that literally everything that happens is somehow related to s*x or is just straight up s*x. Rather than a device to improve the story and give it depth, it seems to have devolved into nothing but fan service, or an outlet fort the... more>> author to express his fantasies. Also, dont let the tags fool you, this sh*t is super f*cking kinky. MC <<less

This is a story that likes to yank your chain. As the synopsis says, the protagonist is capable of magic, but he hides it. The novel yanks your chain by never revealing that fact to more than various secret confidantes in the series. You want it to come out, but it never does.

The second issue which I'm not going to take points off for since it's literally a genre. The second issue, is the endless s*xual content. I feel this series deserves a harsher tag than ecchi. This is full-on... more>> smut territory. Ecchi is for things like the protagonist accidentally fondling a girls breasts. This one is vivid depictions of fellatio and other s*xual interactions including pictures.

Beyond that, I never really enjoyed the series. I wanted to enjoy the protagonists secret being revealed, but it just never happened or if it does happen, it takes place after chapter 30. I feel like that's plenty of time for a series to get moving. <<less

City of witches... Ah...

It's better to be the "City of vvitech."
Rectum seggs scenes are literally giving me a hard time to keep my foamy goo from coming out..

A very good novel for ret*rds like me.

Slow-paced story with brief details on how the world works.. A very long series, many more to cum....
It's in my top 10 recommendations list if I want others to read.

The novel City of Witches offers an intriguing premise of a genius mathematician getting stranded in a secret city of witches after a plane crash. He learns to use magic in order to try to escape. The worldbuilding seems very immersive and imaginative, with good attention to detail in establishing the workings of the witch city. I appreciate how rigid and ruthless the hierarchy is.

The plot seems to start off slower paced, focused on the main character's backstory and daily life in the city, but apparently picks up later. This... more>> type of slow story-telling always tends to pay-off well later, so let's be patient, shall we?

The characters, especially the female heroines, are described as well-developed and distinctly charismatic. The s*xual relationships MC has with the witches are a significant part of the plot, which may appeal to some readers more than others. The erot*c scenes are well done and not cringeworthy as most tend to be.

One con is that the magic system seems very complicated yet the story doesn't try to make you understand it in simple terms. Its like teaching algebra to a child who can't count to 10. I would have appreciated the author to start from scratch and teach how the magic system works.

Overall, City of Witches appears to offer an original fantasy premise exploring the idea of a male witch protagonist set in an imaginative secret world. While the plot pace may start slower, the worldbuilding and character dynamics seem to improve as the story progresses. For readers who enjoy fantasy with creative worldbuilding and a mix of action and smutty elements, City of Witches could be an interesting new read. <<less

As a reader of this novel, I must say that I was quite drawn in by the immersive story, engaging world-building, and well-developed characters. The adult scenes were tastefully written and added an extra layer of excitement to the reading experience. However, I did find some inconsistencies in the main character's actions that bothered me, and the heavy focus on adult content might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The magic system and setting were truly fascinating, and it was a pleasure to explore this unique world alongside the main character.... more>> The character development was exceptional, with each person having distinct personalities and motivations that made them feel lifelike and easy to connect with. At first, I thought all the witches would be one note characters, but they showed some surprising depth. They're still generally not likeable though.

On the flip side, the pacing could have been better, as there is too much focus on adult scenes. However I heard it became an exhilarating journey filled with action and suspense later on. Overall, I highly recommend this novel for those who enjoy mature themes, well-crafted characters, and an engaging storyline. However, if adult content isn't your thing, or if inconsistencies in the protagonist's actions might bother you, it might be best to explore other options. <<less

The worldbuilding is good and the author does a good job at setting up the witches as these terrifying all-powerful women whom command absolute authority and fear among the rest of the citizens/s*aves. Unfortunately there were little to no relevant non-witch characters after MC becomes a witch as far as I read, and to me that lack of variety made the story squander its potential, especially since it is way easier for me to sympathize with the oppressed than the oppressors living in luxury. Later on, we see that witches themselves have hierarchies and some of them get the short end of the stick, which rectified this issue somewhat. But the author has this way of ruining his characters by introducing weird fetishes into the R18 scenarios. Like this doctor character who was

. The only witch character I found interesting was Amelia cause she was suffering from psychological issues, but her plot had these frustrating components to it and involved a romance I didn't enjoy or root for. I didn't have the motivation to continue, but I was told the point I dropped it is where the story actually got good.
