She was the daughter of the county magistrate but was forced to marry into a peasant family by her dímǔ.
She wasn’t from this world. With supernatural powers, a flip of her hand would make clouds form, and a wave of her hand would make rain fall. She was like a fish back in water at her husband’s house, fell in love, and lived a different farm life.

Dímǔ: I fully regret it now. If I had known this earlier, I wouldn’t have let her marry!

Yi Yi Lan Xi has become one of my favorite C-novel writers. This is her third novel that I am reading and it is very good. And it's her third novel that is so lengthy, that I was unable to complete it. Each of her novels starts well and holds well for hundreds of chapters and then moves into arcs and topics that are simply too heavy for my taste.

As usual, it is about transmigration into the body of an unwilling and unwanted bride, in this case, a girl in... more>> love with and engaged to someone else, who was forced to marry a man who saved her from drowning, touched her body in the process and therefore had to marry her.

And then a story of living in a large peasant family, where three already financially separated brothers with their large families of married and unmarried sons and grandkids share the same courtyard/homestead, as a wife of the third son of the eldest brother begins. Because the bride is a concubine's daughter of a wealthy magistrate who marries into a poor village family, she is envied by the villagers as being wealthy and having a status, her in-laws are being envied by their relatives from the same courtyard, they want to snatch a share of her (meager) dowry, to dominate the young bride, to break her, to push her to the bottom of the family hierarchy, etc.

This story is magical in more ways than one. A modern girl transmigrated into an ancient China-like world with certain powers to sense and to affect plants, her own space backed up by a powerful system, ability to cultivate her powers and upgrade the space, etc. Most importantly, she transmigrated into a family with a great mother-in-law, a great husband and his wonderful siblings and that is simply precious.

Spoiler

Having read half of it I had to drop it when the FL and the ML were about to move from their village to the capital for the ML to study and pass the imperial examination of the highest level. The FL's scumbag father got pissed off with the pair and sent a letter to his family in the capital to make their life difficult. I was so not interested in another batch of squabbles, rows and backstabbing by the relatives of their relatives! And crazy gals going after the ML, obstinately pursuing him, a married man. Enough is enough.

Probably because the author was seeking higher ratings, she cranked up the degree of nastiness in the behavior of the FL's relatives and reduced the magic and sweetness in the novel to the point that I lost interest in reading it. Reading about extreme forms of abuses of women is not a pleasant pastime. That and the fact that after a year and a half of marriage, 1000 chapters into the story, there was zero progress in relationship between the FL and the ML. All this time they shared a bed like two strangers, never shared a kiss or a hug or had feelings other than appreciation of each other as suitable spouses for each other. These folks are too lukewarm, 👎👎👎 They are great as family members to their family, as a brother, a sister-in-law, as a daughter in law, etc., but they are not a romantic or a loving couple. This novel pays zero attention to such matters and neither of them is passionate.

(They suddenly consummated their marriage in ch1022 and then went back to their usual relationship style.)

A huge novel but worth your time reading. The MTL was decent and easy to understand so finished it in a week and was looking forward to someone doing the translation. Loved both the FL and the ML, especially the ML who has the right balance of being ambitious and ruthless as well as romantic at the same time. I especially loved the Mother-in-law's character which stayed consistently the same throughout the story. Their family dynamic except for the Father-in-law was really great. The side characters are also quite memorable... more>> and most get their due justice whether good or bad. There are no love triangles for the FL as she was married but some for ML.

Edited

Just read the first chapter. The translation is just an MTL copy without any editing! Like keeping the term prostitute when it means concubine daughter or shu daughter and also not correcting the gender when talking about the fiance of the FL. The rest of the chapters are no better. Please at least do minimum editing!! <<less

Lovely story, caring core family. Hate that the need for a good reputation didn’t allow the MC and ML to be more ruthless with the scumbag 2nd and 3rd rooms and the MC’s original family. If I were Fangshi, I would have brained my husband long ago. The golden finger is mighty, and things get better for the family quite quickly. Slice of life, but with more plot. Prievously read through MTL, I am going to enjoy reading it well translated on Trial &Tried.

I finished the whole novel simply because I wanted to find out how it ended.

I liked how this developed at first, and the FL had an awesome golden finger, but honestly it didn't seem like it was completely utilized at all. As one reviewer put it, it seemed to just have been put there to move sections of the story faster.

But I wasn't really fully satisfied with how the novel treated the enemies. They kept jumping up and down again, and the face slapping is just suuuper vanilla. I've seen... more>> better in other similar novels.

Spoiler

Even when FL became empress, people can still jump up and be a**holes. But when she was still an official's wife, people couldn't do the same thing even to the prince's wives. It's so vexxing.

For some sections I honestly had to skip. Too much talk on such random topics. Anyway, MTL'd the hell out of this book, and its surprisingly readable. <<less

Hooked, line and sinker, ah!

So GOOD !!!

As a voracious reader of the ancient china, transmigration, magical space, business management and supernaturnal troupes, this novel is right up my alley! The sypnosis had already piqued my interest and now that I started reading it on @MTL Novels, I couldn't be more ecstatic.

Yes, I did see that @Trial & Tried is seemingly translating this novel. But I checked it and discovered that they are merely copypasting the raw MTL on their site with absolutely zero editing. Not badmouthing anyone here, but I'd... more>> rather read the MTL @MTL Novels or any other MTL sites.

Anyways, the MTL is good. It's relatively easy to understand and to read. A zillion thanks to MTL Novels for sharing this great novel's MTL on their platform!

I love the story so much! It is so intriguing and the slow burn romance and slice of life are so rightly built in.

I understand that, seeing the number of chapters the novel hasp, may be daunting at first. I was a bit skeptical myself in the beginning as to whether I should give this novel a try or not, especially knowing that no one is translating it and it is also a 2438 chapters novel. After all, I must confess that I have never read a novel of this length.

I mean, the most lengthy novel I have read so far on NU was GSPW's 1007 chapters (that too in MTL as only 200+ chapters are translated and is currently ongoing by Celestial Translation. She is doing an awesome work btw. This novel is also a hidden gem!).

Anyways! Surprise, surprise!

A mind-blowing irresistible storyline was what awaited me in this novel!

Absolutely zero regret for reading this whole 2438 chapters novel!

My skepticism was for naught. I'm ecstatic I gave it a try. It would have been such a loss if I had dismissed it due to its numberof chapters.

What a hidden gem, I must admit!

This is a lengthy novel, and as we know, an outstanding novel is one which has a good world setting, a good storyline and a good character setting, and their respective development. And it is EXACTLY what the author delivered in this novel. I must emphasize that the novel was even way more promising than I'd dared hope for. The author did such a mind-blowing storyline construction for this novel, the characters and the world setting and their developments. It is too amazing! Magical! Simply brilliant! Not to mention, the storyline flows so smoothly. Thinking back on it, I didn't realise until I noticed how fast my reading was progressing as I reached till Ch 370 on day 1 (5/09/22), Ch 869 on day 2 (06/09/22), Ch 1397 on day 3 (07/09/22), Ch 1842 on day 4 (08/09/22) and finally completed Ch 2438 on day 5 (09/09/22) !!!

Well, all the credits undoubtedly goes to the author-sama for her mind-blowing writing style and well-sketched outline and development of the storyline and characters.

This storyline is too lit; I couldn't stop reading once I started!

In fact, it is THAT great of a novel. But, I lack words to describe how GOOD this novel is. Cause we must know, for a lengthy novel of this scale, it takes a lot of detailed work and creative construction to span a storyline over 2400+ chapters and yet to be able to deliver such a remarkable level of work, which by no means felt too long, tiring or excessive.

So for this 2438 chapters novel, willing to give it a try is nothing much, but actually not being able to put it down and stop reading once I started - now that's tantamount to how GOOD and IRRESISTIBLE the storyline was. Won't attest for others, but for me it was INCREDIBLY GOOD. Period!

I have become a fan of the author-sama's writing style and awesome storyline build-up and development ah. I can't wait to check out her other works. This is what I call an amazing novel. Like BTTS and GSPW, ABWAH has made it to my Top 3 list in lengthy hidden gem novels ah!

Highly Recommended !!!

For those who are intrigued by the sypnosis and are a fan of the above-mentioned tags, I'd say - be bold and give it a try. The novel is THAT awesome. If it is your cup of tea, you'll be in for a jolly time. Guaranteed! <<less

It's about a 3.6. A potato chip novel; not filling, definitely junk food, but not too annoying to read. There are some neat plots, and there are also some very tired routines.

It looks really long, but at first the chapters are insanely short (and they're still pretty short towards the end) so it doesn't actually take that long to read.

The worst part of this novel is the braindead recurrent villains. I don't have an issue with smart/crafty villains going at it semi-unkillable c*ckroach-style, but it's more annoying when it's repeatedly... more>> the same cast of miscellaneous low-level vermin.

I liked how the ML never got adopted to a powerful family/didn't end up being a "secret prince our family picked up and adopted" and his background is just "poor scholar". His rise to power is unsurprising, but what interests me about it is that
Spoiler

after the Crown Prince and Emperor die and the throne battle is inconclusive, the country actually takes on a Warring States style. While I've seen novels with the MC and ML working their way up as poor magistrates, rarely do they feature warlord-type rebellions for establishing a new dynasty without prior royal blood in the family. (Even if he's a benevolent magistrate-turned-warlord, it's a chaotic time and eventually he is, effectively, a conquering warlord.) The conquering part also took multiple years, after years of establishing himself as a magistrate; while it could've gone on for longer, I was really surprised by the fact that it wasn't instantly handwaved in the typical manner. (You know -- all the shitty princes f*ck up and kill each other and MCs instantly win.) It wasn't what I was expecting from a novel like this.

[collapse]

The pacing is like... ehh? I would've preferred more war details, but I get that this isn't the genre for that, so I can understand time-skipping battles.

The MC's golden finger feels tragically underdeveloped, esp towards the middle-end of the novel. Lot of potential, really OP, but rarely too relevant.

Very readable MTL. <<less

This story has a lot of flaws and disadvantages, but it's interesting enough to warrant a read. Especially if you enjoy self-indulgent OP female protagonist novels. Originally, this is far from my type of novel. But I've been running out of things to read recently XD and so I decided to give this is a shot. All in all? Not bad. At the very least, it kept me interested till the end.

_________

SUMMARY: A modern-day woman transmigrates into the concubine daughter of a country magistrate called Qiao Xuan. The original owner... more>> was unappreciated by her family, and had even been forced to marry a poor scholar from a rural village. The time she transmigrates happens to be on the night of the original owner's wedding. The original owner had hung herself, and after being 'saved', it was the FL who woke up. From then on, the FL began to live her new life, prospering quietly, little by little. She has wood abilities to back her up, though she hides it very well, only using it when absolutely necessary. In time, not only will she and her husband make their way to the capital, but they'll also climb over the quarreling princes in the fight for the throne.

_________

THOUGHTS: The story is quite wide-reaching. And this is why I ended up liking it. I've always loved epic-length stories that drag on and on LOLOL. Of course, I know that not everyone feels the same, and I didn't rate the novel highly because of it. Well, that and the novel's other flaws. For example, the story's main characters are actually rather under-utilized. They're ignored for the bigger picture, and there's no character development at all, just character conflicts and drama. The ML, specifically, felt like a cardboard cutout. The FL never really trusted him, she never told him about her abilities, which made me question his loyalty to her time and time again. He's meant to be super smart, but he doesn't notice her actions at all?? (At some point, I came up with a conspiracy that he knew all along LMAO and that he just took advantage of it and never said anything. I mean, since she didn't trust him, why would he trust her in return in this regard??? Of course, I know that's not the case, the ML stated in his POV that he didn't know, but still, I had to resort to this kind of thinking to avoid disliking the FL too much and thinking the ML too boring LMFAO.)

okay, BUT that rant aside. There are other places that the other suffers. Too many to really count right now. The golden finger wood abilities, for example, because the FL doesn't tell the ML, is so underused it feels pointless most of the time. It's just a convenient plot device to rush the pacing of the story. And oh, speaking of the pacing of the story, it's all over the place. I had to skip so many chapters where the same content is repeated again and again (I mean, to be fair, the chapters are pretty short. Each chapter is worth like 1/3rd of a regular chapter. So this story is actually not as long as you'd expect based on the chapter count.) But yeah.

Anyway, I say all this to prepare you for the fact that: YES, this story is very flawed. Don't expect it to be anything like the stories you've read in the past. You'll only be disappointed. I went into the novel knowing this, and so I ended up reading till the end (low expectations naturally made me think more highly of the points I liked LMFAO).

_________

RATING: 3.25/5

OVERALL, simply for the fact that I enjoyed it in my own way (the business management, poor-to-rich aspect, etc. Are just my type) despite the rating is still 3/5 stars. I don't think this novel is worth 4 stars. But it's definitely more readable than I was expecting at first (oh, that reminds me, the MTL is at least 65-70% readable. The titles are confusing -- this is ancient times after all -- but things are easy enough to guess from context.) <<less

its somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4.

the novel has over 2000 chapters so the pace of it is really slow. Everything is slow, the romance, the development and the face slappings. Now that being said, it's a good slice of life novel. The male lead is a gentle scholar with a slightly more silent and cold temperament. I prefer domineering male lead. The female lead is very likable though not very shrewd. A lot of her success is due to luck. The plots so far are quite simple. I'm... more>> at chapter 800
ill come back to update once I finish and if my opinion changes.

It is not a romance novel. The romance here is like the foundation on which the story is built, necessary to explain the rationale behind the leads decision but invisible once it's been set. It is more about farming and court intrigues. After reading through the 2400+ chapters my opinion haven't changed. I think if the novel was shorter and slightly less focus on farming and more on building the romance it would have warrant a 4+. I have to say I probably fast read or skipped a third of the novel. <<less
