The demons of this world run amok; it’s time for the children of heroes to fill in their own legends.

Unfortunately, you’re not the cold and incorruptible female lead. You’re not even the high-status, delicate and charming second female lead: You’re just the detestable cannon fodder female number three!

The original host was secretly in love with the male lead while a fanatic in harming the female lead from the dark. Till the very end, she was merely a stumbling block for the love between the male lead and female lead. She let herself get stepped all over by the second male lead and lived a life that could only described as ‘s*upid’.

“So you’re saying… as long as I steal the female lead’s man, I’ll succeed?”

“Apologies, your target partner is… the female lead’s little brother.”

“Little brother?”

“Yes, it’s exactly that little brother who’s hopelessly in love with his older sister. The one with a twisted heart and evil tendencies, vicious and merciless… that little brother.”

This novel is so sweet. My only complaint is that it ended too fast.

Good story, the plot is more complex than I expected. I have to admit that although MC, Ling MiaoMiao, and ML, Mu Sheng, do have a happy ending, I still feel a lil bummed after completing the novel. ML's past is tragic and leaves a bitter aftertaste.

The romance between MC and ML follows the expected path. The plot has twists and mysteries that makes it more interesting than the norm. Overall, it's a recommended read despite the angst.

Spoiler

My bitterness involves ML's parents. His mom was non-human while his dad was human. They were deeply in love with each other but were separated first due to miscommunication and later due to conspiracy. ML's mom suffered too much. I wished the author could've found some way for ML's parents to be together in the afterlife. 🥺

This was a great story about rising above your circumstances, love, and living life to it's fullest within tight constraints.

My favorite character in this story is the ML - he is so black bellied and mysterious (with good reason). Some people didn't like his initial extreme actions, but I thought they perfectly fit his personality. Unlike some "dark" leads that the reader only sees the good sides of, but hears act horribly, this ML actually acts as expected, even to the FL. No mysterious force or unexplainable plot prevents him... more>> from doing his worst. That's what makes his growth especially pronounced - it's apparent when he starts developing feelings, and his actions by the end of the book are night and day to how he would act naturally.

I do think some of the subtleties and foreshadowing might have been lost in translation, because some of the plot twists happened really quickly and confusingly. I found myself almost consistently lost by the middle of an arc. Everything does get cleared up by the end though!

I thought the FL was pretty annoying. Her actions and behavior at the beginning almost made me lose interest multiple times, but the author notes explained the fl's thinking well enough to keep me going.

I ended up liking all the other characters. The theme of living a life without regret that emerged towards the end was pretty inspirational. I didn't like the return to real life extras, but the other extras were great.

In the end, this story is about people living the best they can within life's many constraints. The system in my mind represents the many shackles that bind a person's actions (I really liked one comment I read about how this is especially meaningful coming from an author writing in the currently restrictive Chinese environment). Even when there is no system, there's the restrictions of birth, of family, of past grudges and debts. There are so many things that can hold people back, but rather than complaining or focusing on those restrictions, these characters choose to do the best they can in each situation. They are still restricted, but aren't defined by those restrictions. <<less

At the beginning I wasn't a fan and it took me a few chapters to like the novel.

I'm very glad I finished it - it has a great plot and no Mary Sue characters.

I recommend that you persevere and finish reading it.

I agree with a review here pointing that the pacing of the novel is too confusing.. So those readers really liking this one may have better brain capacity.

The love story is not my cup of tea either, despite it is supposedly given the ML is dark. I honestly thinks the MC deserves better. Even the ending is also disapointing.

I enjoy the read.

Sometimes it does get frustrating with the way the FL is and how she is trying so hard to stay on script or something. Which also doesn't make sense to me since the mission is to prevent the Black Lotus from blackening; so shouldn't she be more "I like you Ziqi" or something since the beginning.

I feel sad for Ziqi's parents.
Spoiler

And angry at his bad Aunt Consort Zhao. I feel that even if the dad didn't leave his mother in a fit of anger or insecurity, his aunt will find a way to break the parents apart and cast the forgetting spell. They might even imprison him and his mother too.

[collapse]

Comment about ending.
Spoiler

I wasn't expecting this kind of ending. I thought since the system wanna prevent him from blackening, that his ending will also be changed as well. Unfortunately not. Ch 112, the final chapter implies he dies. I do appreciate the extra. Kinda like the writer gave us reader a parallel universe where Ziqi didn't die.

I loved reading this book so much so that I stopped everything I was doing and binged it for a day. The romance started at about chapter 50 and until then, I low key despised the male lead. He and the FL had a sibling type relationship, but in a bickering, annoying each other way. But once he realizes his feelings for her, he’s very possessive and jealous. I loved the plot of the book, but the ending was so underwhelming and unexpected : (

Holding off on rating for now, but I would give it 4 out of 5 stars for now. The story and characters have potential to be amazing, but the random scene changes were super confusing. I'd like to read the raws to see if the original was also this choppy.

I'm not a big fan of Systems and Transmigrations, but both these points explain why the FL is paying attention to the ML despite his multiple attempts to kill her. Once they get through that th**ny beginning and the ML has... more>> gotten over his suspicion/trial-by-fire phase, he is entirely devoted to her. It was rough getting to that point, but once you understand his past and the rest of the story, it's understandable why he's like this. The ending was a bit unsatisfying, but I'm also OK with the idea that the ML plans to stick to the FL for all their lives, lol. A little sweet, a little dark - that's just how Mu Sheng is. <<less

I started reading this because I was prepared for a slow burn love story. And this is it, it's slow burn. Our MC transmigrates into a novel about demon hunting and has to go through tasks in order for the story to progress normally. Her second task is to make the villain (the ML) fall in love with her. She's more devoted to completing the first mission than the second one because our ML is obsessed with his sister (not blood related) and is already a yandere for his sister.

The... more>> good part:

Miao Miao (MC) is portrayed realistically: she doesn't have super powers, no gold finger, and the author intends for her to be just a normal human. I liked this. She's scared when she has to be scared and acts like anyone would in these kinds of transmigration situations. The story has arcs and they are all intertwined and make sense.

The bad part:

But here's the thing, I didn't care in the least for the side characters or the plot. Like no..I just don't care about the ML's sister or her lover. I don't care about the princess side character or the father side character. I just. Don't. Care.

I do think it's a worth while read if you like transmigration and ancient China. But I'm here for the yandere ML and I'll tell you right now that althought it's sprinkled a little bit into the story, the real yandere moment only comes after 80 chapters. I know I signed up for slow burn but oh my god. I was losing my mind waiting for it.

And I'll be honest... the yandere moment didn't make much sense?????? SPOILER BELOW:

Spoiler

Essentially when he forced her to marry him it comes out of the blue??? LIKE THERE WAS NO SET UP FOR THIS I DONT UNDERSTAND. The build up for it wasn't there. I know he was confronting his sister and showing his "true face" and all that but..... afterwards he immediately runs to the MC and is like "marry me" after getting rejected by his sister and I just feel like he didn't blacken enough nor was black bellied enough at this point to really pull the marriage card and I am so frustrated because I wasted 80 chapters to read a build up that was so unsatisfying and I am mad

[collapse]

Anyways...I'm done ranting. I gave two stars to the translator. The one star is for the story but I'm frustrated. <<less

The story was great. Pretty understandable. But the way it was cut or segmented together, like when a scene is cut and a new scene is introduced, is choppy. Maybe it's the way it was formatted on the site or something. I don't know if I like the ending or not, it was just not something I expected. But I like the ML and FL interactions so that's cool.

Like others have said, it's a cute story but sort of hard to read at some points.

There would be flashbacks and mentions of the book plot randomly in between scenes which made reading very confusing. Usually events that aren't happening currently are in italics or indicated as a flashback but with this they were just dropped in the middle of the story. If felt like I was reading a grammatically edited mtl the way the flow of the story didn't make sense sometimes. The extras were even worse lol and... more>> let's not mention that sh*tty ending. All the time spent reading this felt like a waste because of that ending.

But like I said it's a cute story if you enjoy yandere MLs. Also the FL quickly got over her fear of the ML which I loved unlike other yandere/villian ML novels where the FL cowers the sight of the villain at every turn making it unbelievable that they could fall in love. They had some banter going on between them which added a really nice comedic element to the story.

Another thing I feel like the story of the actual villain (not to be confused with the ml) wasn't given justice. I felt like it could've been better and the author kind of just wanted to wrap up the story 😕

Overall a fun read but with no re-read value <<less

Loved this, definitely recc it. I read it around a month ago so this review won't rlly b that detailed.

The psychology behind the characters was very well done, I rlly enjoyed it. The sad parts were sad indeed. I felt so bad for that person. Really do think it was such a wretched life to live. Wish the extras had the life of the OG host, but sadly..

The og MC was so self centered it was anger inducing. Loved the ML so much ngl ngl. Reread material.

It’s a strange and interesting story. I find the story flow novel and confusing at the same time. The romance was build progressively and the arcs in the story connected well. The FL had no strong features, the ML is possessive and gloomy. I am not sure how I feel about this novel. I think if there were more extras it would have been better. I gave it a high rating because it kept me reading it in one sitting, didn’t want to put it down.

The plot is a lot more involved than the typical Novel Transmigration with a System.

FL gets transmigrated into a cannon fodder character of a novel, while trying to complete mission tasks for a system. The problem is that some of her missions or tasks seem to contradict one another to make the original story progress in the same manner as the original.

The plot and characters are very well thought out.

My only gripe is that the scene transitions are very abrupt, it jumps from flashbacks to current scenes to different POVs... more>> suddenly. I also wished that we could have at least one more extra for a happily ever after epilogue.

Overall, it's a unique twist on the genre. <<less

The thing is I really like this web novel. The English translation is great, the story is intriguing and the characters and relationships drew me in. The ML was...... something. He was a jerk in the beginning but hey, I expected that, the FL expected that, it was stated from the beginning that he was the villain, the worst of the worst: cruel, vindictive, ruthless. The author definitely delivered on that for the first part, nevertheless it kept me hooked to see how the relationship between him and the FL... more>> unfolded.

The reason I didn't give this book five stars is simple, honestly. While we saw the ML slowly fall for the main character, it felt as if she treated him more as an npc, a gaming system that simply helped her get back home. To me, at least, that's how it felt. It took her most if not all of the book to basically stop treating him as a means to an end. Even when he gets hurt, her main reaction was: oh no, he can't die, he's my target character! What if I can't get back home? Seriously, almost every time her reaction was this or some variant of it. A stark contrast from his attitude (after he fell for her) of: if you touch her, you die. Not to mention Mu Yao as a whole brought this rating down, even though she gets better as a character later on, through most of it she holds this: I'm holier than thou attitude. While she's suppose to be righteous and kind, the amount of bias she holds for the MC in the beginning is insane. Even how she treats her brother shows she barely accepted him, but even then not really. Ladies, gents and non-binary folks, she got a false martyr on our hands.

Disregarding all that, however, I did love the back stories and how, said back stories effected the characters, their choices and overall trauma.

Overall: 4.5 stars. <<less

This is a pretty interesting story with the usual transmigration with a system but with a few twists. Very enjoyable, but a bit confusing. Not sure if this is the translator or how the author wrote it, but certain parts of a chapter skip to another part/perspective without any indication which made it confusing.

The pitiful main character required to fulfill clashing mission objectives.

My thought after finishing the novel: What an unsatisfying ending. I felt like I wasted the energy sent invested in this novel even though I had enjoyed it tremendously.

The good things:
1. Good writing
2. Really interesting world, plot, character, relationship development (yes all of those)
3. No faceslapping drama or what most transmigrated novels usually have. The relationship development between characters are realistic and enjoyable. Enjoyed the growing love between the ML and FL

The bad things:
1. What the hell is up with the ending????? Neither the extra story or the ending felt complete. AUTHOR WHY.
2. The ending is not only unsatisfying but
Spoiler

also SAD.

[collapse]
3. The author could have done a better job on tying loose ends. It felt like the author had written a wonderful novel and all the way to the climax and then ended there. Which in this case, doesn't seem like the author had lost steam and just wanted the novel to end, but had ended it like that ON PURPOSE.

I first read this story in a manga and then later on in wuxia. The translations off though. I can still understand but the reading experience is not that great and so I reread it here.

I'm in the part where Mu Sheng and MiaoMiao already married and they are trying to figure out the real identity of Ziqi.

The story is really cliche. But what I enjoyed about the story is the way the author added scenes which are not boring and at the same time make my heart go bathump for MiaoMiao and Ziqi. Yeah.. I know I'm a sucker when it comes to romance.. 😩😩😩 But what can I do. I can also appreciate how the character development was also given to the supports. I don't think anyone was left out. <<less

So far, I've really enjoyed this novel. I'd probably give it a 4.5, or somewhere between a 4 and 5 star rating. I personally love MC who get by on their smarts and ability to lie.

The MC and her relationships with the other main characters are all complicated and don't follow the usual tropes of this genre. The world building is interesting in that they're demon hunters in a fantasy world where reality can bend. I'm not usually a fan of systems directing the MC but this one isn't too... more>> intrusive - it mainly just ensures the MC follows the plot.

The ML is definitely a yandere. For the original FL, not our MC. It takes some time for the ML to come around, and he's not doting on the MC in the mean time, so if that's not your thing, you may not enjoy their relationship. It creates an interesting dynamic, in my opinion, and I'm really enjoying the steady growth of their relationship as they learn to understand and trust each other.

Occasionally the writing can be confusing, and it can be hard to differentiate from flashback and present. But overall, the story and translation are well done. I recommend. <<less

It's the typical story of a black ML witch turns white with the help of the MC. Their interactions are quite funny and I can understand the MC. The transformation of the ML is also reasonable. The frequent changes of locations can be a little confusing. Nevertheless it is a long story, it doesn't get boring.
