Interesting story and intriguing plotline, but not without moderate to hefty shortcomings. Good enough to keep my coming back though.

First, the strengths! The MC is a dynic and flawed character which keeps things interesting, and the author makes creative story choices within overused settings (ABO, apocalypse etc) that makes it fresh and fairly unique.

I agree with WallEyeKnee's and Yeoha's reviews-- the ML is meh, the author gets overly absorbed in repetitive descriptions of characters' appearance/unhinged-ness, and the arcs' endings feel flat and repetitive because the author doesn't control the pacing... more>> of the story that well. To be fair, some of that might be because nuance gets lost in the translation.

So let me whine a little here.

Honestly, this has the potential to be a really excellent read, which is why it's so disappointing that the execution is so... clumsy... at times. It's been said a million times: SHOW, DON'T TELL! Sadly, when it comes to our MC/ML and why and how they're soooooo smart/handsome/cool/unpredictable, the author loves to tell and not show. It very much begins to feel like beating a dead horse. There were even parts where I swear the author copy-pasted descriptions from one chap or arc to another. I only reiterate this so much because it was really distracting and broke my immersion in the story. Like, dude, I want to be able to read the story, not skim it until I get to the good parts!

Personally, I find the 'romance' kind of cringe worthy so far (ch 160). It goes from mutual wariness to one-sided infatuation at the point of dependence/yandere with almost no transition or explanation. Partly because the ML has little to no character development, it fails to be remotely believable.

ML's actions can basically be summarized as: staring torchily at MC and salivating over his body, exuding cold moody killer aura to everyone but MC, and being a convenient accessory for MC to work around restrictions set by his punishment. Oh, and most importantly: candy dispenser.

As for the plot, the individual arcs are pretty good and the overarching story has got all the setup in place, but they aren't quite as integrated as this kind of story (mystery/suspense) needs them to be. Rather than sprinkling hints about the big plot through all the arcs, it reads like the author forgot about the 'real world' plot' or wasn't sure how to write it from 5th+ arc. The author is probably planning to do a big reveal towards the end of the 8th arc or something, but unfortunately the story just feels disjointed since there hasn't been any development of the backstory in literally almost half the chapters (160) now. Current rating is 3.5 stars optimistically, rounded down. Better than average, but only a bit.

All that said, I think the writing has matured and improved in the later arcs of the story, so I'm keeping my hopes up for the rest of it! <<less

Ge Xui is probably one of my favorite protagonist by far in term of craziness, IQ and brutality. No matter how difficult and cruel each punishment is, he can never be tame and always find ways to outplay those scientists. On the other hand, Isis (ML) is patient and caring. Although his memories get wiped out in every world, he never forgets to protect MC and pamper him subconsciously, there are moments where he could've take advantage of MC due to his emotions, but he still chose to wait until... more>> Ge Xui can reciprocate his feelings which I'll give it a 4.5 star! It would be a 5 star if not for the mtl-//sigh but can't wait until this gets fully translated~ I hope you will give this QT novel a try, it's worth it!

Btw, Zombie Arc is my favorite hehe. <<less

I am not rating this book, I'm only here to share my thoughts. Sadly, this books isn't for me. Yes I love me some op MCs but FOR ME it's so boring. It couldn't grasp my attention for more than 5 minutes, I keep getting distracted. I love binge reading, there are dozen times where I didn't notice that I couldn't stop reading a novel but this one really failed to do it. I don't know if it's because the way it's written or it's just me, and according to... more>> the reviews, there are a little romance (?) Since MC doesn't trust ML or something. But if you want to read it then try reading it. You have an op and beautiful MC and a respectful and caring ML. <<less

It's a pretty enjoyable novel. For a QT, the romance and the world building is pretty nice. Keep in mind the MC is pretty OP, as well as the ML, though I think it's the enjoyable kind of OP to read.

For romance, it's quite slow. From mutual interest to falling in love, the ML starts over in every world, but the MC changes from doubt to love gradually over the different worlds. Although it doesn't go deep into their reasons for loving each other, the process of them falling for... more>> each other was pretty believable.

The world building isn't too in depth as it is a QT, but it does a good job of conveying the world system gradually over the arc instead of infodumping you all on the very first chapter of the world. The different worlds were quite refreshing. There were some worlds that were just basically common troupes but regardless enjoyable, and there were some arcs that had an unexpected twist in it. I dislike QTs because there always seem to be an arc that I hate a lot, but I don't hate any particular arc for this novel.

If I really had to day something I'm dissatisfied about, it'd be the abrupt ending. The ending of the main story was fine (though I did wish it had more chapters), but the extra was ended really randomly. It's been exactly a year since this novel ended, so I'm guessing the novel won't get any more extras... I guess. <<less

This was a really unique QT novel in a lot of ways, for reasons that could be taken as either pros or cons. I definitely enjoyed, but can understand why others may not. Still, I would recommend if you're looking for an exciting and engaging plot line!

Firstly, things I didn't like were how dull the emotions felt while reading, and how the romance itself was quite lackluster overall. MC is very much an OP character and he doesn't tend to think on his feelings or really even experience many emotions... more>> to begin with, a fact that is explained later on in his origin story, but still makes for a generally less impactful character design. He's hilarious sure, and the decisions he makes are so incredibly wild that you can't help but love him, but at the same time he really doesn't have many moments of introspection or meaningful character growth.

This also translates into his relationship with ML, which is basically fully platonic for a majority of the story, and even after some more romantic development happens, remains pretty dull. There's no confession scene and physical contact between them is pretty boring lol like they basically touch lips and that's it, no descriptions of romance or intense devotion or any of that other good stuff. Definitely do not read this if you want a romance story only.

On the good parts though, this novel has a very fresh take on the different worlds that MC encounters each arc, by having MC put in a role that is really out of the norm. For example, in the zombie apocalypse world, MC himself is a zombie, and the author actually did a fantastic job at having him behave like a zombie and still carry the essence of his personality. To be fair, MC isn't the most emotional to begin with, but this arc really removed almost all his feelings and was one of the best portrayals of an emotionless MC that I've read. Really one of my favorite arcs!

ML is also quite unique in that though he follows the standard yandere obsessed ML trope in many QT novels, he is actually very respectful of MC and doesn't ever force himself on MC. Kind of a wild take that this is a unique quality but it was actually really refreshing for a ML to immediately back off if MC said no. To be fair though, if ML tried anything I'm sure MC would have literally ripped his d*ck off lol. ML is otherwise a bit boring though, as his one quality is being a simp (love at first sight basically) and there's not much else to him.

Arcs are all pretty short and end abruptly, for various reasons that are explained well in the story. Would say that I liked most of them except maybe the western fantasy and beastman arcs. Might be just that I don't really enjoy when a character spends a lot of time as an animal. Some basic notes I took with each arc:

Spoiler

Arc 1 - Interstellar

MC and ML not having any romantic interactions in this arc is pretty refreshing. ML is a bit boring but we'll see if he gets any character development. MC seems to not have any memory of why he's being punished or what crimes he committed, a fact that is just randomly thrown into the story by the author midway through. Suspicious.

Arc 2 - Western fantasy

No idea what to think of this arc, it's kind of weird. Lowkey beastiality with ML being a wolf and licking MC with **intentions**. They don't do anything s*xual though thank god like I think I would have needed therapy, being a dog owner myself...

Rarely do I like this type of western fantasy world in QT, and I really was ready for this arc to end. The actual setting of this world was pretty different from the norm though what with the abyss and wolf business.

Arc 3 - Merman

Another genre that's hit or miss for me. This one was pretty cute though. ML is a bit psychotic. I like it. Endings of each arc are so abrupt though, not sure if I like that.

Arc 4 - ABO, mecha

Holy sh*t MC is so badass, surgically ripping his gland out himself when he is hit with an unfortunate estrus. Good for him?? Also ML is definitely developing more personality with each world which is a relief. A shocking ending, but exciting.

Arc 5 - Modern, showbiz

First meeting was so chaotic, can already see myself loving this arc. Also this is the first time I think that a MC literally cannot act at all when put into a showbiz world. Hilarious.

Arc 6 - Beastman, mild school-life

MC becomes a cat and battles his cat instincts. Honestly not much happened in this arc?

Arc 7 - Zombie apocalyse

MC is a zombie in this world, very different from the usual QT! Honestly couldn't see this arc panning out any other way though because of course MC is out here scaring zombies and raising zombie minions. Strangely enough this was actually one of the best arcs yet.

Arc 8 - Royalty, magic

MC as a (attempted) runaway bride, dress and all, stolen away by a dragon. Arcs are getting shorter, but this one was cute. First kiss technically.

Arc 9 - Escape game, horror, unlimited flow

Unlimited flow (giving KOD vibes) in a world hopping novel is definitely a new genre mash-up. As usual, MC has no idea what's going on and he continues to play by no one's rules but his own.

[collapse]

The backstory behind everything was also pretty unique, and it definitely confirmed some of the doubts I had when I first started reading. Overall it's a good read, and definitely up there in terms of QT novels! <<less

Some misconceptions aboit this novel I want to clarrify which stoped me from reading it for so long.

The novel might seem very abrupt in the beginning specially because of MLs affection towards MC but trust me it all adds up in the last arc.

The world's indeed don't have any happy endings but they are nit extremely sad. The first 1 or 2 mighy make you feel heavy later you get used to the rhythm.

If you are looking for too much fluff then it's not for you cuz it's all slowburn... more>> but the MLs indulgence to MCs each and every whim makes it very sweet also the contradiction if MCs ruthless and childish self is also very applealing. Andd bamboo translator's cute funny remarks does lightens the mood up after every chapter.

The MCs might seem like he knows everything from surgery to mechanics, other than life skills which might seem ridiculous at first but be patient it will all make sense in the last arc.

This novel is really good alright not the regular world hopping one. Give it some time and patience and read to the end you will love it. <<less

Seriously, I feels this novel are really overrated, overhype.

The real good are basically last arc, that's why everyone kinda got misleading to said "This novel are really great!" No its not sir, the great one are only the last chapter, they said it slow burn but no. Its not. It doesn't have romance at all. Nothing's burning at all.

This novel, can still going even the author wipe off the ML plot/storyline.

They got together like after 4/5 arcs and people said "Its so romantic, their feelings are really great!" Oh please,... more>> its not romantic, its real c*ckblocking.

When I'm reading, I'm just like, this story must be written by woman, why all this sentimental "reasons"?

And some compare to FOD, said this is better? What? sh*t no. FOD are real good moreover of course the MC, ML got together in the first world, its logic they live their WHOLE lifetime each worlds. BUT this novel, the MC just stay like 5 years something? The author just use a sentences that make you think every arcs is like long time.... like how the author make you think this is great novel at the last arc/chapters, you can just brush off the boring-ness of earlier arcs... <<less

God knows I was trying so hard to read this slowly...

But sometimes failures can lead to promising results & this is one of them. It’s really damn good.

I’m not gonna out of my way to call it the best world-hopping themed BL because there are note-worthy contenders & everyone’s definition of “best” is subjective. I definitely enjoyed reading this though. There are probably some things about it that may turn off readers, but I found the ride to be thrilling. As someone who thrives from romance, I was... more>> not disappointed. This was a great slowburn that had my toes curling from a mere head-pat. Needless to say, I was hooked.

I dig my wild MCs coupled with their indifferent yet very emotional MLs. Just delicious. If you hate yanderes maybe this isn’t your cuppa, but boyyy I love these red flags. The instances were pretty chaotic, but as a whole they were interesting & managed to connect to the overall plot. It’s a world that revolves around the main characters; don’t expect more than that.

The ratings and reviews are so good so I had high expectations, and this did not meet the bar.

First arc: seems not very well researched. Feels like the author has watched maybe one Star Wars movie and tried to BS their way through writing an intergalactic war story. The battle strategies seem very surface-level, like they are just words that sound vaguely like war tactics but don't really mean anything. I thought it was extremely weird that ML instantly feels some bond/attraction to MC, whose body is not only a... more>> minor, but a malnourished, emaciated minor. I'm not strictly against novels where the relationship starts when one character is a minor, but there has to be something to attract them like personality or intelligence, or SOMETHING, right? ML basically sees MC for the first time and is like, "Ooh, what are these strange feelings I'm having?" without MC having done or said anything.

All of these are not dealbreakers, and probably MC and ML have some history together that they both have forgotten about and that's the explanation for ML's instant attraction. So let's read on and find out, right?

But arc two so far is not better... The focus is just really strange. The author spends a whole chapter just talking about MC hunting monsters without advancing the plot, when I don't think this is the main point of the story. After ML showed up, it was mildly interesting so I was going to try to continue reading, but... I'm reading the raws, and I don't know why there are so many wrong and missing words! So at least once per paragraph, I need to be like, "Well that sentence made no sense, let's see what words can be added where in order for it to make sense." Not worth the effort since I'm already not that into this novel. <<less

I really tried very very hard to finish the first arc.

It was just so boring.

I loved QWTFOD but I don't think it's as good as DPUBFTB. So I went into this novel with pretty high expectations from the race reviews saying it's amazing and way better than QWTFOD.

I mean, maybe the MC just doesn't appeal to me because he just seems like a somewhat intelligent, deranged child. I wouldn't label him a genius but to be fair I've only read until ch 10 of Garbage Star and couldn't continue anymore... more>> as nothing was happening.

ML isn't very appealing as well, so far it's like he has no personality other than 'tall, powerful, handsome, dominant'.

Understand that it's cleaned up mtl which sometimes makes it very hard to read and visualise what's going on (which might be why I found it so boring). Thank you so much to the translator though for picking this up and updating regularly!

I'm just going to continue from the second arc and see how it goes 🥲 <<less

First off, I really like where this is going. Story starts when MC wakes up in a cell with no memories of the crimes he's being sentenced for. He has the option to go to jail for however many thousands of years, or go through "punishment worlds" to serve his sentence. The story is QT, so obviously the latter is chosen. Now, I'd been looking for a review so far that would roughly summarize the arcs for me, but haven't found one yet, so I decided to make one. Warning,... more>> my reviews are incredibly biased, please take what I say with a dose of salt and form your own opinions after reading for yourself.

Arc 1 Garbage world. chap 1-23

Spoiler

MC wakes up on a garbage planet only to be rushed to a selection process where those on the planet hope to be picked to live a better life working for "the alliance". MC is one of the people chosen and surprise surprise, Alliance is actually evil and is planning to ens*ave everyone. MC nopes the heck out of that, takes over the ship, gives the alliance a big rhetorical middle finger and flies off. He runs into the resistance after brutally embarrassing the ones chasing after him, and joins parties with the ML. Not much romance happens in this arc

[collapse]

My rating of this arc: 3/5 stars. Not bad, I personally am not much of a fan of intergalactic type stories, but those who are into scifi would probably like it a lot more. Not much happens between MC and ml. It does it's job as being the intro world to show us a bit of what the "punishment worlds" should be like.

Arc 2 Ragnarök chap 24-44

Spoiler

MC wakes up in an absolute hellscape, the burial ground of the dark god. Eternal night, blood everywhere, and he gets devoured by some beast his first night there. Like, literally eaten alive. He escapes by pulling an uno reverse and absorbing the beast while still in its stomach. MC can't seem to die, but experiences a pain worse than death every time the moon reaches the highest point in the sky. The first half of the world is straight up torturing pain for the MC, then boredom. He hunts the dark creatures and explores, but is alone in the bottom of the abyss otherwise. He grows immune to the pain, aside from what the high moon causes and makes a plain home in a cave to wait out the "nights". quotation here, cuz its always night, by night I mean the moon's highest point. One day, he smells fresh/warm blood, which is something new, as usually the blood is always cold and goopy. He waves off a hoard of dark creatures preying on a big, wounded, winged wolf... and thus, the ML enters the scene. ML is none to happy bout being betrayed and thrown into the abyss, being a former god and all, and has plenty of trust issues. The wounds suffered turn him into a tiny pup so he can't do anything to hurt MC or anything else for that matter, and is left to the mc's happy care. MC, who is thrilled to finally not be alone in the hellscape anymore, tries his best to raise his new reluctant pet. Eventually ML realizes MC doesn't mean any harm, and upgrades from smol puffball to a protective pupper around MC. The two manage to escape the abyss and end up in demon land, where all the demons wana catch MC for some reason. MC gleefully sends them on a wild goose chase before he's caught and just before things get bad, ML eats demon flesh so he can turn to the dark side. Then, using his refueled power to save MC, he escapes the demon realm with him and the two wind up in the light god's camp. Ml, being mistaken for a dark creature, leaves MC under their guard and goes back to his temple. While MC is being looked after at the light god camp, ML spends some time "redecorating" his old temple, which was taken over by the light god. After making it suitable again, and after the MC subsequently leaves the light cuz he's kinda packed full of dark energy, the two reunite. The situation reverses from the abyss and this time, ML decorates the cave full of shinies for the MC this time. ML can also switch forms at will now. Meanwhile, light & dark camp combined are both after MC cuz he's the key to splitting the barrier and letting all the dark creatures through.

[collapse]

My rating of this arc: 4/5 stars. Loved it. Still not much in the romance dept, but ML clearly cares bout MC here and MC starts to get suspicious of the data word.

Arc 3 Caught Mermaid 45-67

Just finished this arc, so writing a spoiler summary will take a bit. Till then, here's some quick thoughts:

My fave arc so far, because ˜*°•Trauma•°*˜ We fight out a liiiittle bit more bout MC. We get to scratch the surface a bit and realize there's more to this original situation than meets the eye. First arc with some actual romance, but gets cut off abruptly for reasons you need to read to find out. <<less

This is definitely one of my favorite QT novels. Every arc is the perfect length (neither too long nor too short) and has sufficient worldbuilding. I love that our MC Ge Xiu is a BAMF who bulldozes over all the obstacles in his way. He is the embodiment of chaos and destruction :)

The first arc (Garbage Star) is definitely my favorite. Maybe because of the low difficulty setting, Ge Xiu can freely show off his arsenal of skills and be a badass. I also think this arc has the... more>> best the ML and side characters. In this arc

Spoiler

MC and ML overthrow the corrupt Galactic Alliance. ML becomes the new ruler while MC runs off to explore the galaxy with his crew

[collapse]

The second arc (Ragnarök) is also really good, but the MC and ML are kind of isolated so there aren't any interesting side characters; everyone is an enemy. I really enjoyed the gore and the different monsters. Definitely my favorite in terms of worldbuilding. In this arc

Spoiler

MC is the 'door' to the light continent and ML is the last fenrir. MC becomes the new God of Darkness and ML is his first follower

[collapse]

Maybe because the impact of the first and second arcs are too big, I didn't find the third (The Merman), fourth (ABO), and fifth (Modern Entertainment Industry) arcs as exciting. Looking at the titles of future arcs, the trend seems to continue. In the third to fifth arcs

Spoiler

MC is a violent, captured mermaid-turned-siren while ML is a tyrannical monarch who is obsessed with MC.

MC is an ex-omega mecha pilot while ML is the leader of a mercenary organization. They fight against the zerg race

MC is an actor covered in black materials who owes 70/80 million yuan to loan sharks. ML is one of the biggest arms dealers in the world

[collapse]

The ML in arcs 1-5 (chapter 113)

Spoiler

Lulai Sivir, the god of war who defected from the alliance. In order to confront and suppress the rebels under his command, the Alliance mobilized cheap labour from lower galaxies and sent them in all directions.

Elinor, the last Fenrir in the second world, fell into the opposite side of the continent after being deprived of his divinity.

Vallen Rowett, a tyrannical monarch, moody and with a bloodthirsty temperament — Great Duke William, who bought the merman, was his distant relative.

Haines Erost, the leader of the interstellar mercenaries — came to the thieves ship just when Ge Xiu was sold as a s*ave to a businessman.

This is one of my fave QT, that I mtled and raw read since the extra chapter is can't be found anywhere lol. The first arc is a bit boring but just keep on reading it and it will all be good. I think the first one is boring since it has too many words and it lessen in the next worlds. The 2nd Arc is where it get interesting and it improve the further chapter you go so keep reading before rating it on halfway of reading first arc... more>> or second arc! You'll miss something. The MC is not that OP but he really has protagonist halo like any other novel, he also doesn't depend on ML which is a plus factor for me since I've read a lot of QT where MC became dependent to ML but nothing in here. The MC was crazy from the start but then you can see the development where he became soft and tame his craziness without him realizing it. I love it. <<less

Really good novel. If you liked QWFOD this will not disappoint. The first 2 arcs are a bit slow but after that, just wow. The MC is so spunky and ML just loves everything about him they are so flirty just my favourite type of romance. Both are good chaotic characters. They are equally strong. The novel is interesting, very well written. Translation is great. I just can't wait for more updates.

I really enjoyed this one! As with all BL quick transmigration, one cannot avoid comparing it with the holy bible that is QWFOD, and though there are many similarities, this one is different enough that it at least avoids being a clone. For one, the MC while also being a genius is decidedly a lot less suave and conniving than ZYS hahaha I can't even. This MC is such a ball breaker and a chaotic mess. ZYS meticulously plots every step of his path to defeating his enemy while looking... more>> cool. This MC finds tries to find a loophole in every world and then aims a bazooka at it.

As for ML, he's a lot less unique? Strong, silent archetype that adores MC to bits (once he "falls" for him). Not that he's not likable.

Even though this is classified as QT, I'd hesitate to really read it as QT. For one, the sense of the overarching plot is very strong, even when the MC travels to different worlds. It's clear from the very beginning that the worlds he's traveling though are just simulations meant to punish him, and the MC hardly tries to fit into the role he's assigned so the immersion is broken from the get go. He's just there to raise hell, not perform missions or whatever, so many times the world is terminated abruptly, leaving us with no sense of closure. I would have liked to see classic QT format in which the worlds are episodic in nature, but this would be almost impossible with the personality of the MC hahaha. Also the settings won't allow him to settle down and grow old with ML like we would see in some classic QT. He's meant to be miserable, it can't happen. The relationship between MC and ML is so sweet. ML has such an enduring and patient love for MC even though the little bastard is so prickly and distrustful it made me go uwu. MC takes a while to warm up to ML, but when it finally does and the backstory is revealed it really made my chest twinge.

All in all, it was a wonderful read and I was not disappointed by how it ended as is the case with many Chinese novels. The mystery of the MC and ML's back story was solved neatly and the resolution was so so satisfying. Everyone got what they deserved. :) <<less

Rated: 4 but possibly a 3.5-4 this is possibly affected by the quality of the translation, but it's still readable and the translator is very upfront and honest that they are a novice, so I thank them for their hard work.

It's a unique take on quick transmigration. The first couple of arcs do drag a bit, but I encourage you to hold on until you reach the mermaid arc where things pick up. The initial chapters are also quite long which doesn't help, but later on they get shorter and... more>> easier to digest.

Another novel with an overpowered MC, but you can tell that there is back story to it. The MC is also ruthless which is great! And the ML is interesting. It's definitely a slow romance, and I do feel like there is something lacking there, but I also can't pinpoint exactly what that is.

My favourite arc is actually the last world which is a take on unlimited flow horror - it has a plot that I love in that type of genre/novel.

Overall, it is worth giving it a try. Don't give up and rate before the merman arc because that's where you really start to get engaged with the story. <<less

Just finished reading this book, found it very enjoyable. Felt like a good twist on a transmigration MC. The ML was, well, a ML.

Although it was good, there was just something "off" about it, but I can't put my finger on what it was. Maybe it was the "abrubt" ending on the worlds he is in (though I understand why).

I recommend you to read this book, since it is'nt a typical transmigration novel. You will have some fun with it. :)
