Easily cowed and bullied, she was the useless, ugly woman with no talent in medical skills. Supported by millions, he was Tianning’s most respected duke with the power to move all under Heaven. On their wedding day the bridal sedan was carried to the front doors, but the Duke of Qin’s gates were shut tight.

They told her, ‘Come back tomorrow.’

All alone, she walked step-by-step full of pride through the duke’s doors. Little could they imagine, this unattractive good-for-nothing was a beautiful, genius doctor of poisons!

After transmigrating to the past, poisons expert Han Yunxi finds herself on the verge of being married off to the country’s second most powerful man, the Duke of Qin. Her future life seems set–except her husband is an unfeeling ice block, her in-laws think she’s a eyesore, the empress dowager wants to use her for her own goals, and poison-related plots abound.

Alone, the intelligent (and sensible) Yunxi must carve her own space from the intricate web of court intrigue and the jianghu, relying on her words, wits, and wisdom to survive. Adapt when necessary, use force when required; to survive and thrive is the name of the game to a prosperous life.

No matter what, she’ll prove her right to live!

This novel is definitely one I actually try to keep up to date with even with lack of time for other novels. The MC Yunxi is not so OP that every troubling situation she encounters immediately resolves itself. She uses her own knowledge to get herself out of sticky situations (especially with those family members of hers).

The romance is slow and believable, with no instant attraction between the two leads. Sure most dislike the ML (nicknamed ice-cube) in the first 100 chapters or so but he slowly does warm up... more>> to the reader. It looks like it will be a while yet before anything will happen between the two. They are pretty busy anyway trying to solve cases and watch out for the people around them.

I would recommend this novel for anyone who doesn't want to read about an OP MC who is no pushover. The translator also makes reading the novel very enjoyable. (Her teasers for each chapter really bring out the characters "personalities" hahahaha) <<less

I liked PGC at the beginning, but as the story progressed, I can't help but be turned off by the MC's and ML's lack of moral conscience. They will sacrifice the lives of innocent people without any remorse.

Spoiler

for example, once the ML ordered his guards to block MC from saving the supporting male lead. The MC then used poison to kill the guards. The ML didn't say anything about it or feel pity for his dead guards though. The MC also didn't feel guilty at all for mu*dering people who were just following orders of her husband.

[collapse]

Besides, the ML is too much of a jerk to other people aside from the MC. He never shows care to his family, will fire his loyal subordinates for mistakes caused by the MC, innocent people who found out about his secret by accident etc. Despite that, the ML is still admired and respected or feared by practically everyone. I found that hard to believe since he does not even have any friends. His only merits are superficial: looks, money, physical strength. Seriously, why would anybody tolerate such a jerk is beyond me. <<less

A little unbearable. I wish the MC was more independent, why is she so stubborn as to stay and suffer in the household she's at? Her skills are definitely realistic, and I don't find faults in the fact that she's not extremely OP. What irks me the most though, are the villains. They're so bratty and throw tantrums that hold the MC back and it's like the MC has no support whatsoever and even if she does, it barely helps her. All the villains have status and they use it... more>> to punish the MC, etc. I feel like the villains were given a little too much power. <<less

I dun understand why some ppl are complaining abt how ML is cold and very slow, I wanted to say "This is wuxia, Josei novel, lady. On top of that plz look at the total chapter. A real good plot needs a very stable foundation ah!"

I dun wanna say much. But let me tell ya this is the best female rec novel for me! You can see the ratings right? Then don't get blinded by reading-novel-but-impatient-people's reviews, just see it for yourself, You'll sure love it! ML is my fav... more>> among all female rec novel, trust me :)). The translation is very very beautiful ah! Also if I remembered clearly, the translator, Ruyi-san said this novel was top for a long time in its original raw website (xiang5).

I can't help but say this, if this is not your taste or you can't read this novel, cant you skip this without giving a bad review and so-so star? I can't stand seeing such review because it is not true at all! You can see the rating right? The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ah! Just read it but BE PATIENT AND STOP COMPLAINING CAUSE THE AUTHOR HAD BUILD UP HER CHARACTERS CAREFULLY AND BEAUTIFULLY! <<less

The female protagonist is so annoying. She is described as a strong willed and independent woman, which is totally NOT the case. Her character is a joke. Her actions are not well justified. There was this one scene where she killed an innocent guard to save the supporting male lead. She literally lets the male lead walk all over her. And she becomes dumb when she is around him. The male lead is not that better off. He was a jerk for the first 300 chapters and have only recently... more>> got tolerable. He lies and keeps stuff from her. He's cold and possessive. She's better off with the other two supporting male leads.

Also, I have no idea why the author made it so EVERY female character in this novel is the enemy of the protagonist. EVERY female character HATES her for NO reason. The male lead's mother, princess, empress, empress dowager etc...

And the worse part is how the protagonist does not take care of those annoying side characters that keeps reappearing and causing her problems. She is so dumb, she goes and heals people that have harm her before. Even when the facts are right in her face that the male lead is lying to her, she's in denial. I am done and dropping this novel. <<less

Just started reading. It's an interesting story and I appreciate that the main character is not a undercover agent in her previous life. While she does have an out-of-place "hidden mechanism" in her body that acts like a storage and has a poison warning system, it does not make her OP. A part of me wishes she could just leave the city and just travel on her own. But I guess her goal is to just simply reside in the the palace and not have to worry about food and... more>> living necessities. I really hate the male lead. And the other male interests don't really appeal to me either. Hoping character development gets better as it goes.

I rated this 3 because I'm willing to continue reading, even though I'm not raving about it. Hope that makes sense. <<less

Thanks to the translator for the good job..

Abt the story.... it's quite intresting.. BUT... as the story flow..i lost intrested..

Nothing special abt FL..

she's 'just-another-hypocrite-MARY'SUE-character', who time-traveler-> processing -> so-called-tr*sh-young-miss-body -> marrying 'just-oh-too-perfect-prince'...

As a time-traveler.. suppose she shouldn't sniffing around and just mind her own business.. since she's not the 'real' YunXi anyway.. heh (΄◞ิ౪◟ิ‵)

omg, this story is filled with a bunch of clowns. ML is just an a$$, like seriously man. He just dont giv a forkkk.

MC will be in a bad state, dint eat for days, in a terrible state, and he comes and orders her for poison treatment. Whats even weird is SHE DOESNT MIND IT AND FEELS FCKING HAPPY? WTF. She is such an idiot.

We are being told repeatedly that she is getting revenge but LOL no. She is sinking more and more into the mud. All be herself. Great.... more>> Her so called revenge is not clean cut which gives every cannon fodder villian to happily (might I say intelligently) plot against her.

MC is idiotic under the guise of poison genius, also love sick for the arrogant rude ML. Terrible combination.

Don't get whats so great about this story. And I feel terrible to have started this to stop now. <<less

I loved it. Yes, past tense. It was truly great, I read it for 3 days non-stop, BUT. Yes, but. I was disappointed. I was repulsed. Around chapter 465-470, I was so repulsed by how the main character acted that I finally put it down. It ruined it so much that I lost interest in reading.

The main character was supposed to be strong and respectable, but just three chapters alone ruined it for me. Her character crashed to the ground if you asked me. [Trust me, I can continue reading... more>> other novels where the main character had somebody r*ped by multiple individuals, but just a few chapters of this ruined it for me.]

She became so blind and thick skinned that she lost her character. She lost her charm. She became even more useless as the chapters go on...

Spoiler

She was so in love that she blindly trusted an individual despite proof otherwise and even condemned that person who tried to prove it.

This is an excellent novel. I can’t put it down. It is also wonderfully translated. I love the character development and how every arc has something new and exciting. I disagree with the last negative review. Personally think it’s also completely disrespectful to author and translator. What the heck. If you don’t like it, feel free to put the novel away. No need to write a long essay that no one wants to read.

One of my first and favourite web novels. This web novel is the reason why I started to read more. I absolutely recommend this novel for anyone who is seeking a refreshing transmigration romance book. I really enjoy the slow pace romance between the FML and ML and how the relationship affects both of their characters throughout the novel. This story is long (1375 chapters) however it is worth it because you can see the development and romance between the two characters.

Thank you RUYI and team for translating an amazing... more>> story!! <<less

I would recommend this novel to anyone but just know that there's a lot of drama. I use to think that this novel was lame but after I read it, I just got addicted to it. I love it but I hate all those extra characters who would be making everything hard and complicated. It makes me think about how spoil and rude they are. If I was that rude and spoil, I would get whop by a flip flop or something.

Overall, it's going at a good pace. The ML... more>> is cold and doesnt warm up to the MC that fast like others. He's getting interested in her and showing signs of.. Liking her butlike I said before, it's a slow romance and more realistic. Unlike other novels, the MC has to rely on herself since she has no backing or anyone that helps her.

I gove the translation a 5 since it's pretty organize.

The novel would be a 5 if it wasn't for all those annoying girls. <<less

The MC here acts like a typical Chinese light novel harem member. I had to drop the story because the MC is like a housewife with some medical knowledge. I did not see the MC being independent like other female lead stories that I read, so far.

Also, the MC is supposed to be a poison genius, so I figured she would used poison offensively to protect herself. She has used poison a few times, and two of the times were non-lethal poison pranks. During an arc, she tried saving someone,... more>> but somehow it turned into everyone trying to killed her. So, I figured she would retaliate by using poison, but nope, she used poison once or twice, no matter how much she was getting tortured or her life was on the line. The way the story is going, the "cold" husband will save the damsel-in-, I mean the MC most of the time <<less

Finally, a normal and smart MC!! She's not an assassin, super spy, medicine specialist genius, or super spy assassin medicine specialist genius. MC is just a normal doctor that specialize in poison (albeit with futuristic style).
Spoiler

she's dead because her superior at work throw a big book to her head because she refused to treat an important person before anyone else. She's not ruthless femMC that kills people left and right, she's actually kind hearted, but she will defend herself if someone bully her.

[collapse]

The romance is really slow, but every small dokidoki moment is worth waiting. You might be want to jump on the wrong ship at the start. Very recommended if you're wanna take a breathe from ruthless assassin troupe.

Among the transmigrate Female Lead MC novels, this novel seems to be one of my favorites. The MC is not arrogant or blood maniac. I think the author did a good job to create a MC who is likeable and cute. She doesn't like to bully or kill but she is not a frail flower who always need the help of Male MC.

The translator and editor are doing a very good job. In short, I am enjoying to follow the adventures of Han Yunxi and I am waiting for the... more>> new releases. :) <<less

Okay-ish. The MC who was a futuristic medical expert of medicines and acupuncture, killed in a very mundane manner. She found herself transported to a different world and time. As of ch23, there is little explained about her new body's past, but she retained her medical knowledge and cheat abilities -ahem-, futuristic augments: a medical diagnostic system embedded in her brain and a pocket dimension for poisons and antidotes (!?). Right off the start the MC finds herself being humiliated on her wedding day as the other party's family was... more>> hostile to the marriage. Her own family was seemingly uncaring of her as well. In the 20+ chapters translated, the so-called husband is hardly likeable himself: we're told he's a cold person and unfriendly to women and his only redeeming features are his fantastic physique and high noble rank. It would be difficult to recommend this story to those new to the genre, it's because the antagonistic cast of this story is quite overbearing, so much so that a new reader to this sort of story would find it annoying beyond belief. One scheme was resolved in a comedic manner and that pretty much kept me reading, and I hope it continues in the same way; because otherwise there's little to differentiate this from other 'woman-transmigrated' type stories.

Each chapter is quite short, but the translator has taken good care of the text and added footnotes to explain the various ranks and conventions. Italics and inflection were given to add dramatic emphasis, it shows the translator's own investment in the story. <<less

Love this novel. I've postponed reading it for years because of some negative reviews but the moment I decided to plunge in and read it, I never had any regrets.

The MC is very OP. Of course she has to be. That's the premise coupled with an awesome title, so as the main character she not only has to be awesome she's got to be this heaven-defying talent so she can carry the novel to the T.

this is actually the first novel I've read that successfully incorporated xianxia elements and imperial... more>> politics. Usually, the two of them don't go well together. Imperial power is usually contemptuous of the jiang hu and vice versa. The first is steeped in heirarchy and who's going to be the crown prince, the heir and so on. For a jiang hu element to not only survive but flourish in this environment is not only unusual but surprisingly seamless story-wise.

in this novel, the ML not only has his toes dipped deep in the jiang hu but his allegiance as well via his awesome master, the sect head. He's an imperial son who not only dabbles in martial arts but is actually part of that world, even considered as heir presumptive of the sect his master founded and commands.

in this vast and confusing world, our awesome MC finds herself transmigrating. As a modern woman, she should have been terribly lost dealing with all the crap thrown at her by these freaking strangers that include her family but she's surprisingly resilient, brave and funny. I love that even though the world she transmigrated into is already set, she manages to carve a role for herself within it, even a domineering one that all characters eventually can't disregard even if they wanted to.

in my opinion, this is the true strength of this very unusual novel. The author created a world, a strange and downright brutal world where a woman from the 21st century is forced to navigate without friends or allies. She only has this medical space that shrieks a warning every time it comes into contact with poison. But this space turns out to be a weapon she can rely on not only for strength but survival.

the MC is not at all soft or clingy. The ML is a powerful man in need of a strong and valiant partner and he has found one in our awesome MC. They're like Batman and Robin in a sense, except that Robin in this case is a poison genius badass with balls bigger and sometimes heftier than Batman. And Robin is a girl wanted by everyone. And why not? Irregardless of her beauty, she is brave, active, productive, and overpowered. And she has a strong money sense, which to me is dope.

I don't get the negative comments. If MC breaks character in mid-action like a lovestruck idiot for the sake of ML, then I would hate it as much but the fact that she hasn't, will not and probably can't because she's too sensible for that is a big plus for reading this novel.

A masterpiece in the making. And the translation is not bad either. <<less

This is a really good novel. One of the best out there. It doesn't get you away from all the drama. But once you start reading, it gets you hooked and spend nights reading it just to catch up with the translation. There are no cultivation levels. The MC does have a cheat but it's not helpful at all times. Don't Bet with her. She has an all time winning streak. Hehe

The 1st hundred or so chapters was really unbearable/painful to read. It made you want to transmigrate and get... more>> her (MC) the hell out of the estate. I didn't like how the FL was treated, it made me cry a river but also love and appreciate HYX more. It gets better after that though so cheers for HYX. I hate but at the same time love how that Ice Cube didn't melt after a few chapters. The fluff makes you melt, it was worth the wait. Don't judge this novel after only reading 30 or so chapters. This has more than 1000 chapters so the first part is more on taking out cannon fodders. <<less

I'm totally digging this novel.

Sure, the romance is really slow BUT when it comes... Oh boy, so much grinning that my cheeks hurt. IT'S SO SWEET AND ADORABLE.

I think HYX is likable and awesome, she's smart too.

Spoiler

I don't have any issues that she helps/cures her enemies and such things. I mean sure, they bully her and yet she helps them, s*upid much? Although that may be true, she also bullies them back in her own ways. Just because they're bullies doesn't mean she MUST be ruthless and not cure them at all. Some things are better left dead than alive. She has her own ways. Plus, not everyone is perfect.

[collapse]

LFY is soooo adorable when he's with HYX. (When the romance comes)

Spoiler

If LFY didn't exist then I would totally ship HYX with GBY. God, that guy is so sweet and adorable, he's such a likable guy. He's protecting HYX in shadows. There is no way you cannot like him. Nope, you either like him or love him. He's not far away from being equal as LFY (I'm not talking about strength). My heart ache when I know there's no way for him to be with HYX. BUT STILL, he's like my best second male lead ever.

To be honest I don't get people who don't like GQS. Sure, he had hurt people who are important to HYX. But he's probably jelly af. He's definitely jealous towards LFY because of HYX, that's why he hates him. But it is such a shame that he has come too late because HYX loves LFY. But even if there's no LYF, there's GBY... GQS is soo pitiful, I pity him so much. I really like him.
