I'm not going to rate this because I didn't finish it.

Based on the premise of the story it was off to a good start, but the translation kind of ruined it for me. I can ignore the incorrect gender words (changing a character from male to female then back to male all in the same sentence) but the constant changes of where name should be, and then stating the opposite of what would have been said pretty much did me in. I hope the translator will come and edit it... more>> to make it more understandable. On to the novel. Up until the point where I've read, it seems to be a typical world hopping novel where the MC mainly relies on the ML's name or help from the beginning in order to complete their purpose. Don't know if that changes later on, but that's what I observed so far. <<less

#I'll edit this and add the arc summaries at the end once I've finished them#

This is definitely going to be a case where my dislike list is longer than my like list, but overall the novel wasn't bad. It was just your bog-standard cannon fodder counterattack novel with mysterious identities and pasts on both the ML's and the MC's sides.

It also read to me as a half-formed novel that really needed a redraft, as there were a lot of things that went unaddressed or forgotten about that (to me) seemed... more>> important to know or needed addressing to fill a plot hole.

Also, the title has nothing to do with what occurs in the plot.

But otherwise, I would be willing to read this again.

Main Premise:

MC = Su Jingxuan

ML = Jiang He

Su Jiangxuan, like many counterattack MCs, has been f-ed over by fate in his reincarnations, as they were all either cannon fodders, villains, or people that had no direct correlation to the 'protagonists' of the worlds but still had a bad ending as a consequence of them.

Our MC remembers most of his reincarnations' pasts and, whilst he'd tried to fight against fate intially, in his most recent life he'd given up trying to go against fate. However, in this life, he'd had his lover who had tried to protect him from his fate but had ended up dying alongside our MC.

MC feels that this is likely to be his last life as he feels that his soul is one death away from dissipating and is sad that he won't be able to see his lover again. However, he ends up getting dragged into a castle-type room where he meets a black-robed ma who, despite being hostile towards the MC, offers him a chance to see his lover again on the condition that he fulfils the wishes of the cannon fodders.

MC, whilst distrustful of the black-robed man, agrees as he really wants to see his lover again, and if trusting this weirdo will allow it, then it's a risk worth taking.

However, as the MC travels through the world's, and with his interactions with the black-robed man inbetween worlds, our MC realises that the black-robed man is familiar with both himself and his lover to a strange degree. But whilst the man seems to hate the MC, he restrains himself from hurting him, and also has a respectful and worshipful attitude towards the MC's lover.

What I liked:

    • I know insta-love isn't for everyone, but I quite liked it. And there was no MC differing about trying to figure out whether the ML was his lover. The MC always recognised the ML on sight as the ML always looked the same and the MC felt the ML's aura/magnetic pull. I also like how the ML always seemed to be instantly drawn to wherever the MC was like how
      Spoiler

in arc 1, the ML feels the need to return to China otherwise he'll miss an important 'treasure' so he immediately hops on an aeroplane to get there.

      [collapse]
And how this inexplicable 'intuition' on the ML's part is continued in pretty much all the arcs, except maybe arc 3 and the last arc/epilogue? As the ML was where the MC was for plot reasons in arc 3. And then in the last arc the ML technically hadn't been the MC's lover yet
      Spoiler

      because of time travel reasons.

      [collapse]
    • Also, the ML (despite the pull towards the MC) always seems to try to make the MC work for his attention (or at least pretends to) and then regrets it later as he realises he could have been lovey dovey with MC earlier, lmao. (Though this element isn't as developed as it could be, and only briefly appears.)
    • The MC is also really shameless and it's quite funny to read.
      Spoiler

MC immediately jumps the ML (quite literally) in the first 3-seconds of seeing the ML in the first arc before realising the ML doesn't remember him, lmao.

      [collapse]
This is especially true when the MC is around the ML, as he still (somewhat) tries to follow the personalities of the original hosts, but it never quite works as the MC's personality is just that overpowering.
    • MC also doesn't rely on the ML to fulfill his revenge missions, and even asks the ML to stay out of it (which he does... mostly). So the ML mostly acts as a deterrant for the protagonists and antagonists as his identity tends to be quite high-up/strong.
    • What the MC's identity (s) were. I honestly hadn't seen it coming. I had initially thought the black-robed man was hostile to the MC because he'd stolen the ML from him or something along those lines. And yet it's revealed that they're
      Spoiler

brothers. Though Qi Yan (black-robed man) was unaware of this fact. (Elaborated on later in epilogue summary)

      [collapse]
Though, how this reveal is handled later is a bit underwhelming.
What I disliked:

    • MC has his cunning moments but some of his resolutions, or the way he deals with the antagonists in each arc, come across as a bit hand-wavey. Sometimes things seem to happen out of nowhere, or we never see what caused the face-slap to occur.
    • MC saying he got clues about why he was transmigrating/who the ML really was, and yet never elaborating or explaining what he'd discovered, what it meant, or why it was important. So I couldn't keep up with his thought process, at all.
    • Also, in arc 4
      Spoiler

we have that moment where the ML becomes his dragon form for a bit, and the protagonist of that world, Yan Junfeng, becomes a white-haired immortal to try and coax the og!host's soul out of the MC's body, as it turns out they're from MC's original world.

      [collapse]
And I know that they're there to act as exposition, and to also mirror the original relationship between the MC and the ML, as well as
      Spoiler

      Qi Yan and Ji Beiyan

      [collapse]
, but we never see them when the MC returns to his original world. So I don't understand why they seemed so familiar with the MC and the ML. Or why that event occurred in arc 4 as you could remove it and it wouldn't make much difference.
    • It was also unclear why or how the ML fell in love with the MC. As
      Spoiler

I know they spent several months together when MC was Xiao Jiu and the ML was locked up by the Emperor, but the ML mostly ignored the MC during this time, and refused to react to MC's attempts at interaction/conversation. And whilst I know the MC basically told the ML about himself and the fact that they were lovers, that doesn't explain why or how the ML fell in love with the MC. As surely, if he'd recognised that the Jiang He in the MC's mouth was himself, the fact that the ML had no knowledge of their lover's relationship should have just had him thinking the MC was weird. And then when the MC left, they had no interactions prior to MC's death as Xiao Jiu. The ML only really interacted with the MC when he was Ji Xuan, and that happened a thousand years after Xiao Jiu's death, and at that point the MC didn't remember him. So the ML's sudden affection and possessiveness of Ji Xuan just seemed really weird.

      [collapse]
    • The use of flashbacks in the last arc/epilogue was also badly handled, as we kept jumping between present MC and past MC, and it was never entirely clear as to when the shift occurred. (But that might just be because of the MTL, so take this with a pinch of salt.)
    • Also, we didn't get a satisfying resolution between the black-robed man
      Spoiler

      Qi Yan

      [collapse]
      and the MC.
      Spoiler

We know that Qi Yan adored Xiao Jiu, but was really hostile and malicous to Ji Xuan, both before his death and when Qi Yan found Su Jiangxuan to complete the tasks. Yet when Qi Yan found out Ji Xuan was his brother at the end, there was only a paragraph or so of Qi Yan being teary and asking for forgiveness, and then the MC just forgave him, and then nothing else was said or done about it???

      [collapse]
It was really underwhelming, and I felt it could have been handled better as it was such an interesting dynamic/relationship to have considering everything that had happened between them.
    • Another plot hole/inconsistency that really bugged me was the fact that we know the MC had been reincarnating
      Spoiler

after his death as Ji Xuan

      [collapse]
as that's when the black-robed man finds him. And yet when the MC
      Spoiler

becomes Ji Xuan a second time, it's only been several months after his death

      [collapse]
so I don't understand why the MC was reincarnating before then, or why the black-robed man didn't look for the MC when he first died

      Spoiler

      as Ji Xuan.

      [collapse]
Same with why the ML appeared in the MC's last reincarnation prior to MC beginning the tasks. Where was the ML before that?
    • Also, I was unclear as to why the MC had to begin the tasks. I know he was trying to 'save' the ML or something, but we're never told why the ML needs saving or what the consequences would be if the MC doesn't/fails.
    • Overall, the ending seemed really rushed as nothing really happens? Most of it is just the author explaining what had occurred and (sometimes) why. So it was a bit boring to read.
Things I'm undecided on:

    • I can't decide whether the novel mostly focused on the MC flirting with the ML, or if it was a good balance between plot and shameless CP scenes. This is mainly because I couldn't always tell why certain plot points occurred, and sometimes it seemed as if the MC and the ML were just sitting on the side whilst the author did the face-slapping instead of the MC?
Arc List:

    • Arc 1 = [BL] Modern Entertainment Circle - Chapters 1 - 21.
    • Arc 2 = [BL] Ancient China Imperial Harem (Gers, no CP mpreg) - Chapters 22 - 40
    • Arc 3 = [BL] Zombie Apocalypse - Chapters 41 - 58
    • Arc 4 = [BG] Modern Jewellery Competition - Chapters 59 - 83
    • Arc 5 + Epilogue = Cultivation - Chapters 84 - 101

First: The title doesn't describe the novel, it's whole different story from the title.

Second: It's great but the translation is making it worse. The translator needs a proofreader. When reader's is explaining something in the comment section its like translator doesn't understand it. Oh well, keep doing what you like and you'll eventually improve.

Honestly, I think this book is undervalued. There are some name mixups and repetition either in the translation or original novel that make it a bit of a puzzle to figure out sometimes. However, I was able to get the general gist when that happened and enjoy the story despite the errors. I do think the number of names (and their variations, plus titles) added to the confusion, and there are definitely some details that I didn't fully understand.

The arcs were great - they followed the satisfying script of "person... more>> being harmed for little reason" getting their revenge. The MC is op, but not really in a way that felt like he could win lying down. There was still strategy, interesting maneuvers, and lots of people getting their just desserts.

The final reveal was a bit complex and so tricky to follow at first. However, the authors does clear things up and it's a pretty satisfying wrap up overall. The ending does come quickly (I would have loved follow up of some of the side couples, especially since they were some of the most confusing parts of the story).

Overall, there's no big moral (except maybe the value of love and sacrifices family and partners are willing to make for each other?). However, there's plenty of face slapping and happy endings, making this a pretty satisfying read. <<less

The way this novel started was good. But the end was bad. The ending was really hasty and not even properly explaining the character's feelings. It could have been so much better if there were a few more arcs and if the ending was written a little better. But still I spent my time on it and enjoyed my journey from the start to end. Thank you for the novel author and continue writing more qt novels 😺

a great read, I wont mention description on arcs since the translation have titles per world^^ I will debunk that other review like the title. The title?? For me yeah not describes the whole novel. But ouuuur MC is straightforward, spicy and yeah surely sexy for ml. It was NOT a standard canon fodder novel like that other review says. MC has some memories of his past worlds- Though some memories are sealed (like theym he suffered a lot since he cant move on his own mind/action until ML saves... more>> him and changes the fate. He has a goal to meet his lover every world. And there's more to their past though some sentences in translation might lost the deeper meaning on some chapters. Anyways they was like in a time loop adventure and finally have their happy ending. <<less

Okay, I think I’ve figured out why this novel is so confusing. The translation quality isn’t very good. There are many parts that repeat, sometimes the repeated section is slightly altered, names and pronouns are mixed up frequently. It’s really frustrating, because I saw a couple comments under some chapters saying they were confused and the chapter may need editing but the translator just said that they will try to make future chapters easier to understand.
I think the novel itself is actually good, the issue seems to be the... more>> translation. I might try to MTL this and see if the translation turns out any easier to understand, otherwise I would recommend the original translator to edit their chapters, or if they are unwilling to do so, I hope someone else can translate this novel.
I don’t hate the translator at all, I just think they need a proofreader to help them edit chapters for better understanding.

For those that think the novel leaves some huge plot holes, I think the issue is, again, the translation.

Translation aside, I liked this novel. I always like BL QT, but I especially like a shameless MC and a yandere ML! :) <<less

The only thing good about this novel is the MC's blatant enthusiasm for his lover. Everything else is particularly dramatic counterattack clichés with extremely flat characters. The writing is not strong enough to fill these deficiencies either. The final hammer is the subtle way women in the novel have been reduced to nameless plot devices (at least in the first arc). I do realize after skimming the ending that the flatness of most characters may have been intentional. I'll say it again elsewhere in the review, but it's important in... more>> hindsight to acknowledge that the QT parts of this novel are just a disguise for the real overarching plot as a cultivation world novel. This new perspective makes the initial arcs a lot more tolerable.

That person outside the mirror obviously has little control due to the ML's interference and is likely to be the one who put the MC into the mirror to torture him to death in the first place. The MC's soul must have been really strong before to last so long despite constantly having his strength depleted by each death. The ML probably entered the mirror to replace/save the MC. This side character is likely throwing the MC back in just to get the ML back out. UNLESS the person outside the mirror is the ML, but that option does not overly suit the drama level of this author.

Arcs as of chapter 22:
Spoiler

Arc 1: Marry the Scumbag's Uncle to get Revenge aka Face-slapping the Substitute in the Entertainment Industry

Arc 2: Ancient Time Ger Fight to Green the Emperor (guess; don't know ML's identity yet, but there is no way it's a person with children with his strong exclusiveness. Only way ML is the MC's legal husband is if the concubines with children had slept with other men) aka the Male Concubine in the Harem

Remaining Arc titles from jjwxc

3: Reborn with Space to Face-slap in the Doomsday

4: The Vicious Male Supporting Role of a Dog-Blooded Rich Family (abrupt ending with big cultivation related reveals, not sure if entire arc is cultivation or not)

5: Xiaojiu Returns to the Beginning (Cultivation, MC is not human this arc)

6: Jixuan of the Sealed Dusty Memory (Entire arc of exposition)

6.5: End/Finished (Two chapter finale in the Real World)

[collapse]

Ending:
Spoiler

There are overall about 5 arcs. I skimmed part of the end in the raws. The final reveal will include both amnesia and time travel. The cliché is still strong but the mystery itself is not too bad. Still had some big issues with implementation unfortunately. The author starts to toss out a lot of backstory and details that leave the reader floundering. The exploration of the past was a touch I liked despite the confusion of ending the novel with multiple cultivation settings, but the long exposition that followed made me feel the author gave up a little. To put it bluntly, the good strong reveal that made this story somewhat unique was presented in the most boring way possible.

[collapse]

This isn't too long or terrible of a story. It may be worth a read if you are a big QT counterattack genre fan, like dragons, like taboo Romeo Juliet romance, or like big fights between righteous and demonic sects. This is ultimately a cultivation novel disguised as a isekai, so you need to be prepared for that. I myself will likely not touch it again until the translator finishes. I couldn't bring myself to work through the original novel so I won't rate it for now. I will update my review if I ever read this novel completely from beginning to end.

Black Cloaks Identity

Spoiler

This character seems pretty good. He is a good Friend of Xiaojiu (Arc 5 trip to the past) as well as the MC's sister-in-law. The hatred has good reason although the SiL is very impulsive due to a strong double dose of grief. He mostly hates that the MC has been 'replacing' his dead friend. This is easily resolved after the MC brings his living (??) brother to reunite with SiL and explains the understandable misconception. The mirror itself is a prison and the MC was placed there by a third party (the 13 clans?) as a trap for the ML in an attempt to kill them both. SiL does not actually intend to harm the ML's wife (at least at such a sensitive time where his greatest ally the ML is at risk) no matter how much he hates the MC. His honest feelings are most obvious when the third party takes a chance to destroy the mirror and he calls out 'no!!!' as his supposedly hated brother in law / friends fiancé fades away.

I wasn't sure whether to rate this novel at all at first and am still unsure how exactly to rate this, considering how I'm rating this while being unsure whether to read on, take a break or drop the novel all together. The thing is... I don't think the novel is all too bad. It's just your common quick wear/world hopping novel. Nothing really stands out.

The main leads seem to have mysterious backgrounds, sure, but that's also commonplace for this kind of novel by now. ... more>>
Spoiler

The most distinguishing part about the ML would be that he is a dragon demon emperor (?) that can't talk in his dragon form. Other than that he seems to be pretty standard: possessive, doting and powerful.

[collapse]

The MC is op, calculating, but seems to be controlled by his love brain whenever it comes to the ML. He acts spoiled and sticky with the ML quite fast whenever he meets the ML in a new world and the ML indulges him. Doesn't make much sense logic wise, but the explanation of sould connection/imprint is a common patch for that.

The reason why I stop reading here (at ch85) is because of the xianxia/xuanhuan development/arc. Having read quite a lot of novels belonging to this genre, I have reached saturation when it comes to cultivation plots. So I tend to skip or skim those arcs when they come up in a world hopping novel.
Spoiler

But seeing that the cultivation development seems to be an important part of the background story here, I feel like skipping it would be a disservice to the novel/author and would only confuse me more when I was already confused to begin with thanks to MTL.

[collapse]

Thus I think I will drop the novel here... That doesn't mean that the novel is bad or boring, just not my cup of tea at the moment. <<less

I think this novel is fine, if you like the genre. I actually think the first several arcs are good and the sense of mystery that this novel creates is very good. However, the author tries to wrap everything up and explain the world-hopping at the end but I don't think its very well done. The ending is messy and feels rushed and not well thought through, which is even worse because the author did a good job building a sense of mystery. Overall I think its fine but I... more>> think you can find quite a few better transmigration stories out there that are much better. I think the translation that I read was not perfect, but it was fine and even with a perfect translation this would still not be a good novel. <<less
