Such beautiful misunderstandings~ Just how many vests were thrown about in this novel? Lmao. 😂

The story is very tame: there's not much drama and not much conflict. The villains are all easily defeated. Basically, it's a very easygoing novel.

Another thing to note is: Who is the MC? I know that it's Xie Yunnan (XYN) but halfway through the novel, you'd feel like the MC is Duan Changqing (DCQ). At that part, the POV that you'll get to see is that of DCQ and XYN is busy at the... more>> sidelines somewhere. It continues to be so until the finale so it would have you thinking: Who exactly is the MC??

(Although the extras redeemed XYN as the MC)

I've read this via MTL. Of course, the readability isn't the best but it's easy to understand compared to other novels, which is a plus point.

What's great about this novel is the comedy: The comedy about the misunderstandings and the expectations brought about by those misunderstandings. This novel is basically a trove of misunderstandings! 😂 It's good to read as a breather but it's not actually that memorable since there really is not much conflict. I'm gonna give this a rating of 4.5/5. <<less

Very good novel, however just wanted to post this review to clarify THE MC is the gong/Duan Changqing. It’s listed on the original jjwxc website. The author is known to split the narrative between the characters, so that’s why there’s this confusion.

I kinda didnt read until the end but so far it was okay to put it simply. The very beginning was very interesting, we have an MC who wasn't a transmigrator or someone who regressed but got a foresight of the future. The world setting was something like a post apocalypse after zombie or alien invasion of some sort but has already establish a society where humans has adapted even got powers.

It was very interesting but this story has some issues after the very interesting world setting.

First of all the... more>> tension was completely gone and the main conflict hasnt appeared even for the first 50 chapters. The story has something going on in the background where political strive was going on. At best it feels like slice of life thats spice with comedy. There are some action thats pretty okay and rather fun but thats pretty short.

At first the main villain was pretty clear as the story heavily spotlight but then again it feels like pretty one sided. The motivation of that villain while silly was good enough to warrant him as a villain but then he doesnt feel so much as threatening cause how the conflict cause by the villain was dealt like it was nothing.

Well villain aside, granted its not something I can judge since I choose to not finished it until the translation is above 50+. Cause if I read this until the end and granted I will be bored since I basically knew the ending or how the plot goes.

Now the biggest concern for me is that the MC has no push or valuable action that pushes the story. He is like a very big Mary Sue that everything goes well for him. I think its he author fault as for the 50 chapters so far, only the ML has the biggest spotlight rather than the MC. In no way that we as the reader can develop a strong bond with the MC cause ML basically took over the MC spot for various reasons I will not explain.

In truth if the story is written differently with majorly MC view point it be still interesting even if MC is a mary sue.
Spoiler

I can kinda feel bad for the villain cause MC has it easy but well the villain wasnt that clever anyways

[collapse]

So is this something you should stop reading? Not really I dont recommend reading the MTL if you want to read the translated version. But while the MC problem aa being critical its still stand with how the world is pretty interesting and the economical and political problem thats brewing. Not only that theres still nature thats apparently a big issue as well. Over all there is something to expect in the future and maybe by then I will give a proper conclusive review. <<less

Although it's not set in a primitive setting, I found this novel to be really similar to 'Stone Age Husband Raising Manual', so if you like that, I really recommend reading this!

The MC is highly liked by those around him; he's honest and optimistic but not naive. He slowly becomes stronger with the ML's help and although he marries the ML impulsively, he develops feelings for him over time.

The ML is scheming and protects the MC secretly. He enjoys living a simple life with the MC. Eventually, as the MC... more>> and him take over more cities, he helps develop the infrastructure and lives of the citizens by contributing some ideas and sharing a common cultivation method.
Spoiler

He does hide his identity at first but eventually tells the MC about his previous two lives, which I really liked. He's also the first one to tell the MC about his identity as the High Priest.

[collapse]

The plot isn't too complex and the background of the story is quite simple so there is a lot of fluff and not much drama.

The villains are easily defeated.
Spoiler

One of the primary antagonists, Liao Muye, was reborn and his actions inadvertently helped the MC and made his life better. In the original timeline, which is written about in the extras, although the MC eventually gets his happy ending, he suffers a lot.

[collapse]

Overall, this story was nice break from reading convoluted plots. My only complaint would be that I feel that there was no point in the MC getting the memories of the future. It had minimal impact on the plot; it's only purpose was to let the MC go to the river so he can save the ML. I would have also liked to know more about the development of the Holy City after the MC took over. <<less

It's an alright transmigration story. A fluffy light read about weak-to-strong rags-to-riches MC and ML. No big drama, just wait and watch for the MC/ML to reveal their strength and OP control everything. Face slapping wasn't too ruthless and was just funny overall.

There aren't a lot of descriptions and the world / politics aren't fleshed out very well. Also the author really likes... exclamation marks. Only a few problematic parts

like MC basically uses mind control to turn their opponents into prisoners-of-war and they can't disobey his orders

Regarding the angry review about the racism...

Spoiler

I would be the first to say lots of CN novels are racist (usually anti-Japanese or international sentiments) or misogynist or have a ton of problematic beliefs, but this novel, probably due to mishandling of the translation, is actually not really about that.

Yes, it was sh*t writing that the slums of the city got equated to developing countries (that was definitely not translated very well) but ultimately, the point of the story was actually the people in the slums (who were deeply misunderstood) proceeding to rise up and overturning the "wrong beliefs of the wealthy nobles, " which is inherently a rebellion/wealth-disparity story and not related to race.

If anything, it's more in line with uprooting prejudice against those in poverty or the homeless, that common aggressions like "homeless ppl are homeless because they are lazy" were quoted in this story by the nobles (who are presented as in the moral wrong). So those sentiments are actually called out and rejected by the main characters AKA "the people in the good camp" (cue my pleasant surprise).

In fact, the MC comes from that exact area (the slums) and then proceeds to basically re-enact the Communist Revolution in China (he got rid of/reduced the noble class and redistributed all their wealth and property to the poor) which again, had very little to do with race, and very much a Chinese communist thing. So no, there was no implication at all for black people or ghettos, just incorrect MTL terms.

Finally, please keep in mind translators are usually working for free and they are not the authors of the story. If you don't like the story, you are welcome to give it a shitty rating. But translators also have their freedom of speech to ask for higher ratings and not be disrespected for doing that.

[collapse]

Overall, the translation is not super amazing. It is edited well but definitely utilizes MTL at the base. There are a few mistranslations (see spoiler above) and also, a lot of times "cultivation/cultivating" techniques are straight-up MTL'ed into "practicing/practice." But readable overall, so thanks for bring us this story. <<less

As many reviews have said, in mid of the novel, the focus shifts to ML instead.
After reading the extras, I felt if they detailed the extras and had it as the novel's story, it would be more interesting with ups and downs. This one was a bit too smooth-sailing.

A light read to pass the time with. The author displays the usual prejudices of the Chinese layperson, which some might rightfully find unsavoury. The face slapping on this is not bad, but the author needs more practice on their action scenes. The humour can also be sharpened. 3.6 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.

What a fun story! The beginning is a laugh with all the misunderstandings. Even if the end was a bit heavily socialist, I appreciate that this is a novel and perhaps it'll work better there than in reality.

The characters are brilliant and vividly described. I love the side characters and the reveals. The father is hilarious. Even some of the evil characters are compelling (though I wonder why some of them are killed and some of them are converted over to s*aves)

Also, I don't think there's really any compelling... more>> moral in this novel. Love will find a way? Equality is good? Very idealistic and unrealistic. And it's quite funny that equality is the goal except for random bad guys. Some guys are so evil they have to be killed. Some are only had enough to ens*ave (which they happily endure, because who doesn't like to be ens*aved). And some are worse than evil and deserve to live forever doing dangerous grunt work that no one else does anymore because of equality. And the MC and ML are the only judges of people's evilness and whether they get equality or punishment. Doesn't seem very equal to me.

But if you turn off your brain a bit and just enjoy the romance and face slapping, I think this story is great. I'm surprised by how a quickly the book goes, with a nicely placed ending and some extras that really flesh out what happened in the past life. <<less

okay, I loved everything. i’m a sucker for smooth-sailing romances. wish there were more solid faceslapping because all of the supposed faceslapping felt more like... taps to a cheek and were very underwhelming. I loved the characters and even the very lighthearted plot. BUT.

there’s racism and i’m wholly surprised but also expected how nobody even bothered mentioning that. the fringes were likened to “africa, places in asia” and another place but I forgot. it could have been mexico with the racist pattern going on over there. anyway, they mentioned three... more>> whole places that were of poc and of which are stereotyped to basically be lacking in infrastructure and technological advancement because they’re third world countries/places. the fringes isn’t even just a rural area but practically a wasteland that just happened to have some fertile soil and everyone was in poverty. what the f*ck??? and the worst places are called the GHETTOS??? you should’ve just said the f*cking n word with a hard r at that point. what in the smelly racist is that?? africa is a f*cking continent that has modern housing and technology like every country out there. I just KNOW they’re referring to southeast asia and possibly south asia when they mentioned asia and again, we don’t live in a f*cking wasteland. why don’t you leave your country and go with your countrymen who are trying to steal territory from other countries so you can see the rest of the world is much bigger than your tiny ass brain that’s filled with holes?

it’s so upsetting that this novel can be so sweet. I stayed because i’m not paying for this sh*t anyway. might as well keep reading. and thank f*cking god i’m not giving money to racists like this! y’all keep going on about low ratings and get mad that low ratings keep you from reading a potentially good story. hah. meanwhile you’ve glossed over a wholeass introductory arc that called xie yunnan’s place that?? oh f*ck off. 3 stars is a niceass rating coming from me. <<less

It's a nice easy read! Although it feels comical at times (plot-wise) I don't mind it, the world setting (btw) is half modern half cultivation. I was a little weirded at first but after you just roll with it, it's quite fine!

Mostly focused on the romance, after they got married it became really stable. And then it focuses more on family, plot progressions, hustle and bustle. Felt a little like watching sitcoms -- fun and entertaining. The writing style can come across as more of a report of whats happened... more>> instead of showing us the story but its quite nice, the pace picked up because of it and I appreciated it.

Overall, this novel is quite fun and I'd highly recommend if you want a casual, cute read! <<less

Reminds me of Stone Age Husband Raising Journal. A lot of hidden help from the ML to the MC and many hidden and interconnected secrets.

A very cute and enjoyable read. Even the extras were interesting. I do wish we got more fight scenes but it was really good either way.

I thought this was a pretty good novel, the MC and the ML were fun and there were misunderstanding and obstacles but they were mostly played for laughs. There were a lot of hidden identities and I like how the author included the fact that since there were famous characters wearing a mask there would be other characters that would pretend to be them.

I also liked how when the main characters took over the city they actually redistributed the wealth and improved the lives of the common people

I think the rebirth element was just so-so and too many characters were reborn, but I don't think this novel took itself very seriously so it was mostly just an easy and fun read. I also think that the novel focused more on the political issues and story of the world rather than the actual romantic relationship between the characters which was fine, but I think the synopsis made me think it was going to be more romance focused. The only real issue I had was that the first extra was very bad and I would skip it. It deals with:

Spoiler

One of the characters dying at the beginning of the story and being reborn into a child but still having a relationship with their lover from the main story, meaning there's like a 20 year age gap and some really disgusting allusions to intimacy.

The whole time I was reading this, I was really frustrated by how confusing everything was. Although a lot of points were explained, it still wasn't a smooth read for me.

My main issue would be about which is the MC and the ML the whole time I was reading it.

Because I was very particular about this kind of clarification. The confusion was bearable when before the extras started, but when I completed the extras, it made me sick to my stomach. No offense, but it made me feel bad for... more>> a long time.

Spoiler

It was where I came back to the review section and the gong was Duan? Dude, when Yunnan said to a guy, who is decades younger than him, that he needs energy to plow the fields. That hit me. Hard. F**k... I cursed for a long time. Did the author just made a "fool" do that to Yunnan and Yunnan didn't even have any kind of "pleasure" induced in his narrative which makes me the more frustrated that the author didn't intend to even clarify more than that and even put more confusing things like Duan being uncomfortable and have tears in his eyes. This just made me think.... Has the author even read BL? Or any sort of prior experience to writing one?

[collapse]

In any case, it may be a light read to some and even if you intend to read this without minding anything, you'll still end up questioning yourself after. I don't think I am in my right mind after reading this. I didn't have the guts to continue. The story itself is bland and had no "life" or substance. Why did I even trust the reviews and made myself miserable?

Oh, well. It's up to you whether you want to read this or not, but I'm ejecting myself here. I'll be coming with you too, fellow 1-star reviewer! Toodles~ <<less

So Light and So Smooth... And yet not boring AT ALL!!! The whole thing was Nice, Fun, and Really Good!!!

Should never doubt the author, really...

But this is one of the story where many people get confused with who the f is the MC and who is the ML. Who's the Gong and who's the Shou. Lmao

So boring and uninteresting even for slice of life. It wasn't funny either despite multiple attempts in comedy. I kept reading and waiting for something big to happen (because of the Action tag), for some real action, but everything just falls flat. Why wasn't this placed under slice of life instead?

Not even the romance and fluff was enough to sustain it. I don't know how others can call this sweet and funny. It pales so much in comparison to other 4*-tier translated danmeis listed here on NU. I suggest reading... more>> better novels to widen your horizons and increasing your standards.

Normally I'd just give 3 stars but that racist line comparing the fringe area (aka this story world's poorest, dirtiest, most unsatisfactory place) to real life places outside China pissed me off so much lol <<less

Nice slice of life casual read with cuteness, fluff and cuteee beasts and pets, with the leads gradually becoming stronger together with people around them.

Spoiler

MC is an ordinary person with companion beast which can't cultivate. Kind hearted and full of warmth and cares about people around him and tries his best with whatever abilities he has.

Later on he awakens as priest all thanks to ml.

ML is transmigrated guy with golden finger of cultivation techniques and understanding far beyond the level of this world. So he has an advantage as he easily overpowers the strongest people of this world.

The only thing that pricked me a wee bit would be MC is left in dark about the details how their enemies are dealt and handled by both of his strong father aka ghost king and his husband aka ml. MC is under delusion that he has to protect his 'pretty delicate spouse' and earn for the family but in reality he is being taken care of and protected by ML and his dad. So I am not really fond of this, I would have preferred if MC is also involved in aiding, even if ML has to hide his strength and his dad has to hide his identity

And I guess there is no much use of MC being able to recall his previous life except for being able to see through the masks of that pair of narcissistic brothers which he could have done that without previous life memories if he had bit more eq. But let's not blame him for that.
