I Became A Flashing Genius At The Magic Academy

A character with extreme difficulty and the worst performance, Baek Yu-Seol was considered tr*sh in the game because he couldn’t use magic in a fantasy world where everyone else could.

However…

[Due to the wrong ending, 90% of Aether World has been destroyed.] [Please reach the ‘True Ending.’]

Suddenly, those words echoed in my mind before I was transmigrated to the Aether World.

[You can use the skill ‘Flash’.]

“Why did I possess this character?”

Flash was the only magic skill I was given.

Surviving in Stella Academy where many genius mages ran rampant, I became the notorious Flash Mage.

This is just the type of novel that everybody is dreading for, it's concept and creativity flamboyantly succeed my expectation, and I hope yours aswell, and has brought me bundles of satisfaction throughout the whole novel.I just started to read more consistently so I don't know if my review is acknowledged in the novelupdate community but I hope it helps some people who are in the state of debate in which they want to or not read this novel. Thanks.

The Good
The novel has rich world building and incredible attention to detail. For instance, when he was transmigrated to this world, he needed to acclimatize before he could even use his skills. Which makes sense, just because you're good at Call of Duty doesn't make you at the level of Special Forces. He also has a tool which records events that happened in the game. This separates our MC from other isekai MCs who can somehow remember everything. Questions such as why was he transmigrated or why is he... more>> the only one capable of blinking are also given a background story. This level of attention to detail makes it so that is has only a few plot holes if not none.
Heroines are actually likeable. Unlike other novels wherein the heroines fell in love instantly after getting saved once. This one has a more gradual approach. They first take interest in the MC and in their attempt to uncover his secrets, they start having feelings for him.

The Bad
The story has a hard time juggling screen time of its characters. This stems from the fact that the novel has too much harem members and the author tried to be greedy by fleshing out all of them. Chapters could go on for so long without mentioning one heroine. This is also true for other major characters such as his buddies Mayuseong Haewonryang. It is even true for villains. The villains feel like they had a meeting and decided who will rampage first and who's gonna lie low for a while. For instance, when the enemy months are attacking, there will be no mention of demons.

The Ugly
At the end of the day, the story is still the same old harem collecting isekai genre with an OP but ultra dense MC. And the cherry on top is it is also an another academy story. Even the one thing that makes this story unique which is the " he can only use blink" twist will be gone since he'll be getting an OP swordsmanship and OP blessings. Blinking can only get you so far I guess but I was hoping to see more applications of it. So yes, this is just another cliche isekai albeit done in a good way <<less

You know the deal. Guy gets pulled into a game world in a character who, at first glance, seems woefully unfit to accomplish anything.
It has promise. The character interactions and action in the early chapters are really well done and establish an interesting world.

There are issues with the more recent chapters.
The POV is often irrelevant. It'll have the reader, not the character, hear the thoughts of one character even though we are supposedly following the POV of another. Scene transitions sometimes happen suddenly and without notice. Which is... more>> disorienting and has you try to figure out if the character we're following is the one from the last scene or someone else. A task made harder when you can go a paragraph or two before an identifying character trait or interaction makes it clear.

I like this book but the current translation is too inconsistent in quality.
Even worse, the split chapters (crimes against literature) ruin whatever flow there is in the story. <<less

This novel is honestly really good. Yes, there are a few things that are keeping me from giving this a 5/5, but nothing is really perfect. The really big thing keeping me from giving this a 5/5 is the POV switches, without a real indication besides the character referencing themselves in the 3rd person or a pronoun change, it gets really confusing. But other than the novel is really fun.
Spoiler

The MC has a pretty broken set of powers with his blinking and his insane senses but his inability to use other magic really makes it stand out from the rest. The trope to use one super broken ability gets used a lot, but his flashing ability is really cool and actually uses teleportation as an ability that negates everything else and is super OP. The limitations placed on it with room to grow makes the ability actually interesting. Also, his glasses are cool, which I guess are something I should mention.

After reading 229 chapters of MTLs, I have to say, this story has some big issues.

The biggest one among them is the sheer amount of filler and incredibly slow pacing. Constantly, random stuff pops up with no relation to the main plot. The worst part is that none of the random stuff is foreshadowed in any way, so it's like the story just suddenly changes directions for no reason and with no context.

This results in, as I said before, incredibly slow pacing. We're talking Bleach levels of slow, with all... more>> the filler included. And none of it is relevant.

Also, there has been zero progress with any of the female leads. He is not proactive in attempting to get with any of them and they have no real romantic thoughts about him aside from 'he's so cool', 'he's so nice' etc. Do not expect even something as basic as handholding for a long, long time. (I'm 229 chapters in and nothing like that has happened. I can think of exactly one instance where physical contact was initiated and it wasn't romantic in nature.)

So yeah. This is incredibly, incredibly slow. If you plan to stick with it, expect to skim tens of thousands of useless wordcount padding nonsense to read a few relevant paragraphs.

(I dropped this because of the reasons stated above and I actually wanted to give it 2 stars but miscl**ked. Ultimately, it wasn't an enjoyable experience for me.) <<less

I forced myself to read until chapter 9 because it felt weird (due to being edited from MTL) but after that I took a liking to this novel. I can say that it is a good novel, the interaction when Hong Biyeon asked the MC for guidance for the 3 trap questions was sweet, not sure why but when she answered correctly it reminded me of Amanda from the Author´s POV.

Personally really enjoying this. I am looking forward to what sort of skill he'll bring out and I think the relationship between each characters is nice.

The pacing has been good so far, although, there's some part where I'm not sure which character is talking during a conversation.

The writing style of the author is like "My Death Flags Show No Sign of Ending" with the POV narration, which I like.

The MC's supposedly "tr*sh" power seems OP to me, even though the author seems to say otherwise.

The translator's cliff notes at the end is pretty endearing.

The plot has been done a thousand times, but pretty entertaining nonetheless.

It's a decent read but my problem with the story is the misunderstandings. The misunderstandings with Full Frame/Fureim (?) lol her names funny, anyways, is very annoying and I don't like how demanding the silver hair princess girl and the blue hair girl is, sometimes I find the blue haired girl like an itch that doesn't want to go away and looks down on MC despite knowing nothing about him except that he's solved all 3 problems and that there is no background on him (which now I'm not surprised... more>> anymore since she used to be a noble bleh).

The silver hair girl is much better since she's blunt and less talkative.

I like the side guy, myeong? Yeh, I wanted to see more of him but so far, the story made me lose so much interest bc the side characters and their misunderstandings are too much for me and I don't find it funny unlike some other people. Plus, my fave character isn't getting enough screen time at the moment so I may or may not come back to reread.

The misunderstanding with the teacher and MC of his 'knighthood belief' is so s*upid tho like why ask a question only to then answer it yourself with 'I understand you' 😭 you just made it so he didn't have to answer you at all dumbass

Furthermore, I find the whole 'What the hell is your identity' or 'who the hell are you' to be incredibly annoying, probably because I read about it constantly since transmigration stories are my guilty pleasure. But, why can't they just be a genius huh? I don't see everyone asking Myeong 'what the hell is your identity' despite being able to answer all 3 questions AND get an intermediate grade wand AND be able to do magic with ease <<less

It's a good story that's getting lost in bad translations. Having split chapters, POVs are misinterpreted, and even characters' names are just given new names. Which is a shame because it's a very interesting world and story. The MC isn't a genius but he's very likable and uses the tools at his disposal with his game knowledge well enough. It does follow an RPG progression style and we are given multiple POVs. But the progression of the MC, the fights to survive, and the misunderstandings are very amusing. Especially at... more>> a part with how people would react to a person's gaming life and think it was real. Thinking about the things I've done in an MMORPG or an RPG and someone imagining it was actually me is very entertaining, to say the least.

Honestly, you can read the MTL if you enjoy this type of story. Although, it would take a while to get used to because of the heavy use of Korean jargon/slang that doesn't translate well. <<less

Honestly I bing read this and it's really good... So please give it a try... It's like "demon prince goes to the academy".

for starters to give a generic view : MC posses a charector in the game world with same name as him... It's a magic world but the character he possesses has a rare constitution that leaks mana.... So he can't really become a mage... Therefore our MC decides to do his best with his "blink" magic and becomes a swordmaster later (the only one in the world) instead... more>> !!!

He's weak at start bt trains and improves later on !!! <<less

The translation is pretty rough. It's usually understandable, but that's the best I can say for it. It's bad enough to be outright distracting, even if it isn't particularly confusing.

The story itself is... eh. The premise is alright, but isn't executed in a way that particularly stands out.

The one real potential bright spot in it was violently crushed too. It could be a much more unique setup, and pave the way for some really interesting character interactions, but... the system is used to outright deny the option and force things... more>> down a very standard route.

Spoiler

MC isn't the only transmigrator, and the other one is from the book the game is not-so-faithfully based on. Instead of using this to let the two form any kind of unique relationship and understanding, it's used to set up a standard misunderstanding.

I... honestly don't really like it. I don't understand why there are so many 5 stars reviews. It feels like a chinese person who loves manga decided to do an isekai with a system. They added their usual chinese system of leveling/experience. The plot progressed as normally as possible. People are chasing MC. MC pulls skills from his gaming experience which have no relationship to his real life skills. Manages to overcome/overpower his enemies even though his untrained body should be paralyzed for 2 seconds each time the skill is... more>> used. Honestly, it would be more realistic if he just 'flashed' right onto the enemies and they died and the MC comes out unscathed due to plot reasons. Or if he flashed into a wall and ended his own existence. Would have been hilarious too. <<less

I liked it a lot. Although the game the MC played before transmigrating seems like a mess, it doesn’t seem to be relevant to the main plot so it gets a pass in my opinion. I think the dynamic where there is the OG ml, the reincarnated main character, and our main character is kinda interesting. Personally I like these kinds of misunderstandings but if you don’t then it might be jarring because misunderstandings is a pretty important part of the story.

Haha, what can I say? Let's start with the title, I guess. It's a very misleading title, but it's not the "flashing" you might be thinking of xD Although I admit, when I first saw the title, I was a little suspicious, but ahem xD

As for the novel itself, it's an isekai, as you could probably tell from the description. And well, what can I say? If you like misunderstandings like TNE, give it a go. I myself am a sucker for these kinds of misunderstanding stories xD

Basically just sit... more>> back and watch the characters react and misunderstand his use of flashing or inability to use magic and be impressed by his knowledge from the game.

One interesting thing to note is the multi-layered transmigration. I won't hide this in a spoiler, since he mentions it very early on because it's part of the setting of the game, but the protagonist of the game he plays is a transmigrated character. So basically the game itself is about a character transmigrating into a novel, and now he has transmigrated into that game as a different character, which to me is quite an interesting premise.

The reason I mention this aspect specifically is because it creates some rather interesting interactions and misunderstandings as of c27, which I'm sure would be a pleasure to read for some people who, like me, enjoy seeing these misunderstandings xD And I'm eagerly looking forward to how the misunderstandings develop, haha. <<less

I have no idea where to look for the MTL so I guess I'll just wait for the TL of it, help plz.

Now then, onto a review on this, I like it, I'm actually hooked on this, if this were 40 chapters, it would've just ended in a day, none of the chapters are short either (less then 200 words... I think).

Now then, if you've read the synopsis, you'll see that he played a tr*sh character for 10 years, he mained said character for the entirety of those 10 years... more>> and with that alone, it's pretty obvious the dude ain't normal.

The prologue starts off with him slightly prior to transmigration and I'd say the prologue is chapter 1 so don't skip it.

Let's see, anything else I can say? Uh, the kuudere is the best girl. <<less

Okay so make sure to read inoveltranslations group since they’re the ones who are updating.
this story is about a dude who ends up at the literal bottom, and now has to try his best to get to the top with his relatively bad but unique powers. It makes him a bit stronger than others due to the uniqueness of them (unpredictability)

the story flows nicely and not forced in many places.

Coming back to read after so long with this new novel has made me excited! It really has some potential to become the outstanding isekai without that cringe "I can dominate the world!" or "Because I have developed lalala lilili" things. The first 14 chapters already show that each character has their unique charm, with emphasis on the main character BSY, and they are similar to how students in the real world behave.

With foreshadowing of course because that's the main point of changing an original storyline. All in all, I... more>> am eager to read the whole story and uncover the stellar things in the Stella Academy hehe~ <<less
