Normally I wouldn’t lose time to make a review, but this novel is really really bad, and probably only my lake of taste or endurance can keep me so long reading it.

let’s start without spoiler, what make me rate it at 1 star is: bad cultivation system, lack reasonable plots, childish MC, heavy reliance on plot armor to justify MC power, lack of coherence, and completly disregard of power system at later levels.

Now some more specific points, with spoiler tag:

Spoiler

lin dong start the novel in the idiotic MC plot of poor background and bullied even there changing his destiny from day to night. No problem at all in this, but...

MC find the ultimate treasure of the world into a cave at early chapters and he doesn’t know what it does, now guess who more doesn’t know? Yes, the author. The thing became the epitome of plot armor. How so, any time that threat level suprass MC so much that anything else is unreasonable, this thing will leak a white energy that aolve every problem.

MC also find early (ch 330 or near) one of the 8 more powerful artifacts of the world, that allows him to devour any energy, thus what what others benefit him. But ok, lile BTTH, it’s a godly item, he can’t always use it... but he does. Author always says he use it a little, but a little that no one perceive (despite being a very know artifact) can solve most fights.

Now let’s go to the 3 plot armor, an array that was bound to an item and after the item is destroyed (ch 670 I think) it just enter MC and he find more uses to it. Which uses? Justify jump level in fights of course.

The plot armors aren’t the main issue, I would still like the novel, even enjoy it more for them, if was only that, but author has a bad behavior, he elevate bidimensional characters to another level. For example, at the end of the Hundred Wars Arc, MC meet an inportant character, named Su Rou, she has a brother and another girl of their empire with them, but after a few chapters the author literally forgot this other character! He even refer to Su Rou ans her brother as a duo sometimes!!

Other point is, at very early, the novel give an idea of in-depth cultivation, describing martial arts and how to use them, how to train and etc... later the Author only create random names for the martial arts and state their level, huma, earth, heaven, manifestation, soul and etc... the most ridiculous point is an desolate emperor martial art MC found, he used ir as manifestation for a long time, the, when plot armor requires, he surprisingly discover that it’s an soul martial art... wow that’s low.

Wrost of all, in the cultivation system there are secret arts directed to speed of cultivation, at early novel they also had levels and an important presence in the novel, but after MC discover the symbol of devour he simply forgot about these issues, the author too, cos the symbol maybe can replace that concept for MC, but what about the rest of the novel?

The game level area feeling is also boring, everytime MC goes to a new area, even in the same world with the same status as other areas of the world, the elders of a previous place have the power of disciples of another, just because MC is stronger now.

To sum it up, the novel is pretty bad, but, if like me you wish to end the triology of BTTH (that is not a good novel btw, but much better than WDQK) then by all the means, go ahead and read it!

No different from all the other wuxia novel out there

He wants to take revenge, even though it clearly states that, it happened in a competition

MC is a pe*vert but women (who are supposed to be heavenly genius and cold) still love him unconditionally. It gives the impression that only MC thinks with his d***

... more>> It's too discriminative against women and colour (Always focused on white skin color and females valuing verginity and no issues even if MC is multiple women but they will never see another man

Some girl the MC likes, but her family doesn't agree/the clean doesn't agree/some young masters feel indignant

The MC is too emotional and too lucky all the heavenly treasure buried for 10000s of years are just waiting for the MC to pick it up <<less

The starting point of this novel was interesting with the normal plot of the hero gaining strength and becoming stronger, then later defeating his enemy. After that, the novel was filled with adventures of the hero with battles containing victories and the hero gaining more power in a critical moment and confronting a stronger enemy and had to suffer defeat in dinner parts of the world and also gaining admiration from other female characters. However, this is not a harem novel where the hero gains a lot of lovers, as the hero ultimately only has 2 lovers although he gains admiration from other minor female characters. In the last part of the novel, you may shed a few tears regarding the hero and one of the heroine where the heroine sacrificed herself to help the hero. All in all, the novel has a happy/sad ending where he saved the world and became the strongest person in the world but also lost one of his most beloved person. I would say that this is a great xuanhuan novel and I would recommend it.

Did this review on my phone meant to rate it 3/5

I honestly really enjoyed this novel for anyone who thinks of reading it I hope you have patience because that is the only way you will get through it. It's like dragon ball z on crack but with even less actual training time. The love interests are pretty bland and the story is drawn out basically until the last 100 chapters but it has a charm I cannot deny. Most enjoyable part of this novel is the different techniques... more>> and items he obtains. But I'm dragging on, long story short it's good but do not have super high expectations. <<less

Finished this in about 3 weeks- not too many chapters thankfully.

Many negatives about this story. The world-building is non-existent, very rough sketches acting as place markers for events to happen. The main character is bland in the beginning, then quite arrogant later on, but not too charming- doesn't help that the writer keeps saying he is a skinny youth. The fights are lazily written, always just a variation of force-vs-forces clashing in the air, very predictable. Twists and turns get repetitive too. Very copy-paste-repeat format. Sometimes the writer even says... more>> stuff "can't be described", err, as a writer, he can at least try... Skipped many chapters.

A big complain is the translation quality, it's quite painful to read. Too many crutch- words.. many sentences using the words "evidently" for example, and limited range of vocabulary.

What kept me reading was the way the plot strings along, the search for symbols and power-ups are not too bad. The best parts are at the last few chapters, some quite moving scenes worked into it. The supporting characters are quite engaging, and sometimes more interesting than the main character. The female roles could have done with more character development and exposure to differentiate them from each other, they all just seemed to form one big fan club. <<less

I really like Wu Dong Qian Kun. The story line and plot is not excellent but overall it is still good for me. Perhaps I am not a fussy reader. There are other worst novel but WDQK was not one of them. The story started out slow but build up was really to my taste. I loved the slow romance, bromance, his loyalty toward his sect and friends alike. The only set back was the long cultivation process of the MC and his 'brothers'. It took up some 80% of... more>> the book leaving the balance 20% for other stuffs.

Talking about being lucky, there are numerous novels where the MC got power up due to luck so I am fine with the similarities or writing style of this author. However it will be for a while before I have the courage to pick another one of this author's book. <<less

There are many cultivation stories that I read but this one is definitely amongst top3 worst that I continued reading. There are still many that are so horribly bad that I dropped them so the fact that I did manage to read this far (ch950) shows that it's not absolute garbage... still when the story resolves about fighting young masters (each with the same pitiful b*tchy character) as well as "beat the younger brother the older one comes quickly" (the older naturally still pitiful b*tchy character as well)... so yea... more>> this story has a lot of problems, and it's main focus is on endless tournament arcs. Really, pretty much every second arc is another tournament arc.

The world building and it's story is fairly good I guess... other than that... sigh. <<less

All those bad reviews makes me angry. Sigh

the novel is really good. I mean sure it has flaws but lin dong is the best MC for me. And I have read tons of novels.

It starts really slow! Very slow! You have to bare with the (slow and repeat) at the starts. Till he gets stronger. Like 400+ chapters. But after that it changes and takes another turn. Like he is older now, not just kids fights.

He doesn't do anything pointless. There is a bigger plot in the story.

the whole story takes another turn after the MC goes to the sect test battle. Lord marten and little flame becomes human there. He stands out in a uniq way. The fights are sect wars and demons. Its amazing

This novel has several arcs. Early arc is decent but the plot is just not that interesting later on. I'm very upset as the author ended this novel with a cliff hanger and the backstory is written at bare minimum, not even interesting. Somehow the story picked up in the author's later novel, The Great Ruler, which honestly is under-delivered and downgrade from BTTH.

I won't really recommend reading this novel for introduction to this author. I'd recommend Battle Through the Heavens (BTTH), author's work after this one. It is much... more>> superior compared to this one and has a satisfying ending. You do need to read this before The Great Ruler so you get the lore in later chapters. <<less

he became really dumb. Its like he just now does whatever he wants without thinking about anything unless told otherwise by his mentor.

The other problem is that he has so much plot armor that it feels like he doesn't even have to try. If he just sat there and did jack shit, he would still win a fight 'cause heaven or something is on his side.

Also I started getting irritated by the writing style. Every few chapters the author (or translator) will state that 'cultivator X, Y or Z found it hard... even for the MC it was somewhat difficult' or something to that effect about literally everything regardless of the fact that cultivator X, Y and Z have higher cultivation levels than the MC, and would probably win in a fight without plot armor. Somehow the MC is always better than everyone... <<less

There's a reason why this novel is so highly regarded. It's because of the main story. The characters are well written and not shoehorned in like most novels. Huanhuan and Lin Dong are great together and you can feel for the characters. There're lots of really great scenes that I don't want to spoil, and they all happen towards the end of the novel.

Generic Xanxia, nothing original, nothing great but nothing repulsive either (which after over 400 chapters is a great feat). So basically, it's good to pass time while waiting for the good stuff to come out.

Hmm how should I start... It is a very interesting novel and it delivers what it sets out to do. I see many reviews here, claiming that there is no plot, it's boring, no foreshadowing, no extremely deep plot points blah blah etc etc. But they forget that this is a Xianxia novel, which means transcending the mortality! It is a story about a boy chasing after immortality, getting stronger, smacking enemies, adventuring in the vast world. And we, the readers, get our kick from this.

There is something extremely satisfying... more>> watching a weak child gaining strength and recognition, breaking through levels, adventuring in the new and exotic places, gaining new friends and enemies, falling in love and going through every phase of life till he become the strongest, most apex of existences. There are many plot holes and 'meh' moments in this story but the sheer pleasure and satisfaction it brings far outweighs these cons.

World building is done very well, we are just now beginning to see the wider world, and how it is divided according to the power rankings. Fight scenes are intriguing enough, with a variety of spells and abilities, it keeps you hooked. Character development of Lin Dong is done very well, we see him grow from a weak child to a strong and resolute adult. (I think he's 20, at the current translation) Side characters get enough screen time for a Xianxai novel, as the focus is on the MC. Not much romance till now, but we're getting there (I hope we are lol)

So, in short, this novel deserves a solid 8/10. It may not win any literary awards but it brings great joy to its readers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! <<less

I'm really annoyed by the reactions that everyone has to the MC's strength. Just because in their mind he is not stronger that the biggest genius in the entire empire, they constantly ridicule him and insult him etc. As if second-best in the entire empire equals garbage. Every cliche is taken to the extreme in this regard. They all underestimate the MC, they all insult him (even though he has already demonstrated he can slaughter the with a thought). When he effortlessly defeats an enemy and encounters a slightly stronger... more>> one, everyone thinks he has no chance. Even though he killed the last guy in 0.1s and the new guy is 10% stronger. Oh, he is doomed. And we have joy of hearing 5-6 namesless people exclaim that in over-the-top ways like "if he lasts 5 attacks I'll walk on my hands for the rest of my life". Really? You are that sure that the 10% stronger guy will beat the MC? It's just baseless idiotic exclamations that get overused in light novels to fill the chapters and there are a lot of them here.

The overall story is good at least and it feels like the author snuck in a few characters to set up some future arcs, which is always nice.

4/5, it's a pretty good read <<less

In xianxia and Xuanhuan, there are those who get an OP artifact (TMW, MGS, And others) and there are those who get an all-knowing senior person, beast, spirit (MGA, ATG, CD AND OTHERS). Then, there is WDQK, where the MC, Lin Dong, has both an overpowered artifact and an all knowing spirit to help him. Take out the artifact and the spirit and you will be left with, how do I put it? A surprisingly shallow MC. By shallow I mean that there is nothing special about him other than having these two things.

Spoiler

Also, the MC makes some s*upid decisions. In the current arc, Lin Dong had the choice to either staying inconspicuous in a crowd or hiding so the 4 or so factions that he made enemies with don't find him. Guess what he chose? That's right, he picked a fight with the young master of one the factions.
It just is nowhere near BTTH in quality.

Reading BTTH led me to reading this, the plot is similar to BTTH, Although the fact that his clan becomes his bootlicker after he won the hundred empire war and the fact that lin langtian's death was not pursued is kinda f*cked up, one of the reasons I like this novel is because although the MC is extremely op at the end, he is pretty much helpless against the yimo emperor and his lover had to sacrifice her life for a chance to succeed, pretty good time killer, 4 stars... more>> cuz ending is another cliffhanger. <<less

Probably the worst of the 4 "shared universe" novels from Silkworm. Same old formula where MC gets repeatedly underestimated and called tr*sh, yet manages to prevail over and faceslap his opponents through sheer perseverance, luck, and plot armor, without really having to put too much thought into anything he does. Of course, this all happens while about half of every chapter is dedicated to the peanut gallery's reaction to all this.

MC is also very hard to like, as, by the end, he basically remains just as immature as he was... more>> at the start of the novel, constantly acting like an ignorant child and/or throwing temper tantrums and complaining about how the people around him don't act exactly as he wants them to. <<less

Ignore those comments that didn’t even reach the good parts at the end. I teared up when I was reading the ending, really really good and heartbreaking. I only picked this novel up because of the Manhua.

I'd like to preface this review by saying that I don't generally have high exquisite taste or standards for my novels and manga. Generally, I'm always looking for a simple story with good execution even if the genre is looked upon as generic.

That being said, I'd like to start off by saying that I thought the initial premise to this story was pretty good and I thought the manhua was enjoyable even though the art was a bit weird and too... more>> Shoujo-esque for my taste.

You have a main character with pretty good traits that I'm looking for. Not a total douchebag who kills everyone and treats other people like a piece of shit, but also not a total pushover. This is the right balance when I am looking at the ideal MC in a shounen type story. Because often times, this is where most stories get it wrong, and I will drop it after a few chapters. But that is just my personal taste.....

The MC gets a cheat item early on, which again, I have no issue with. For a cultivation story, it is pretty standard to have one of these things, otherwise the story will quickly go nowhere. In fact, often times, I feel as if the main character progresses a little too slow..

He is always fighting opponents that are one or two stages above him, and it gets frustrating for me because I wish he cultivated his power level at bit faster, or maybe steal resources from his opponents to take his level even higher.

I understand that the author has a certain style of writing his fights. He always wants his main character to be an "underdog". That being said, this happens all the time in every single fight. And thus, I can definitely see why others say it gets very repetitive.

If you want to do the underdog gimmick, I feel as if it needs to be saved for some serious opponents that were actually built up throughout the story. Instead of just random enemies that just show up from every other high level empire.

And this is the other problem.... it feels as if the antagonists in this story are not built up very well. Aside from Lin Langtian who was the MC's rival from the beginning of the story, all of the other antagonists that MC fights are pretty much cannon fodder.

Sure... they will have a higher power level initially. But the MC will have some hidden talents, treasures, or some other trump card up his sleeve and eventually win. This gets repeated at least another 100 times in the story with no end in sight. And after a certain point, I feel like I'm being forced to drop it because its literally the same thing over and over again.

So unfortunately.... after a while, I just got bored. The novel was okay in the beginning, but the repetitive content was a bit too much for me later on. <<less
