Well-known Composer Fang Zhao was in the most glorious stage of his career, when the Apocalypse arrived; After finally experiencing the bitter difficulties of a thousand dangers, when the Apocalypse was simmering down to an end, he collapsed; When he opened his eyes, he was reborn in a New World, 500 years after the end of the apocalypse, in the body of a student who had been dumped barely after graduation, who had been cheated of his hardwork barely after he started working…

The World of the Future, Virtual Idols PK Real Idols

“Every time background music plays in my head, I feel like there is nothing to be afraid of.” —Fang Zhao

Toward the end of the apocalyptic period, Fang Zhao lost his life. However, instead of dying, he found himself 500 years later in the body of a young and aspiring composer who shared the same name. Having received a second chance at life, Fang Zhao sets out to achieve the previous owner’s dreams.

Armed with the experience of living through an apocalyptic age and his profession as a composer before that period, Fang Zhao uses his talent, wits, and knowledge to make his mark in the entertainment industry of the future.

pretty good. Tldr of story is musician lives and wakes up in the future where shis is digitalised asf. He becomes literally a superstar as novel title says

besides being a musician, he dabbles in as a gamer, acting, military army, commercial etc. You could say being a musician is the main quests while the rest are side quests.

... more>> A LOT of face slapping but actually interesting plot. This author got good ideas/plots but weak endings where it feels like its an abrupt narrator summarising type of ending

still fun to read tho, might drag a little here and there in the arcs but I wasnt bored at all <<less

Overall a very good series that did avoid a lot of the major pitfalls, it did struggle a bit with pacing, and I think the ending wasn't quite fully fleshed out. Plus the characterization was a little bit skimpy at times. So while it did not blow me away entirely, it was still quite enjoyable.

Overall, when you compare this story to other webnovels, it's on the high end.

At the beginning, I really enjoyed the story. Compared to what I usually read, I found the setting really original. Pb, and it has already been said before, the protagonist is too perfect and too lucky.

Just like triggerk said, this is a novel where Lazy wr-Cliche showcases his self-sucking abilities. Even in another 'existence' such as his new MC.

Yes, it's one of those. Those that the author seemingly just didn't care for what the writing was becoming and just spluttered words and smeared countword (which is low) as much he could possible do so. I thought The Legendary Mechanic was a bit lazy, but damn, this one's even worst for a one-time author (for now).

I'm not one to pick on one's countword for every chapter,... more>> but when it's obvious, it's obvious. I like that first few dozens chapters were short yet so immersive. 100 chapters in later, you realize there's just not a single description of the world unless it is to name only chinese names. Thank you very much.

You're welcome. <<less

Kinda skip the end 100 chapters simply because I don't like the trope lol but honestly, it doesn't really matter simply because it's slice of life...... love the trope and the main character, the settings, the actually make sense why MC is good, and simply the conflict without any real annoying antagonist that stay that long..... I hate them so- it's a plus for me when that one annoying fella is forgotten

Personally, I found this entertaining. I don't really get how I can pursue reading such long novels when I can drop a book with shorter lengths even just 5 chaps in only.

Still, this one was right up my alley simply because I was looking for one to pass time without dog-blood drama or romance overall and I'm just glad that things turned out the way they did.

While it is true MC is OP, the supernatural background of having come from the apocalyse ladden world was just one reason, the other... more>> one won't be found til near the end of the story.

And while I do agree about some comments on the music part as well as the seemingly array of different elements all jumbled in together, it was still fine. I also found it interesting how the author didn't portray the usual 'educating' of problematic kids for turnarounds befitting of their status but they instead sticked to their personas til the end.

Overall, I found it entertaining. <<less

A bonafide Mary sue novel. I've only read until chapter 82 but I don't think I can continue reading this when all stakes are so low and they never change. The story is so monotonous when there is almost 0 adversary.

i feel like the first 100-or so chapters are really boring but it starts picking up after he attends military service.

but that last few chapters left me at a loss. I have so many additional questions, but it just ended so abruptly?? the final chapters really weren’t satisfying as I thought it would be. the author also just kind of info-drops a bunch of really important plot points at the end in a really bad fashion.
Spoiler

like in the second to last chapter where the author starts explaining the background of the Interplanetary Fund. that is really important information, but the way that you learn about it isn’t smooth at all.

[collapse]

Fang Zhao’s character also had a lot of wasted potential.

Spoiler

he is an OP protagonist, but his skill isn’t touched upon enough. this isn’t as big of a problem, because I understand the ‘slice-of-life’ genre. where my problems lie is the fact that they talk about Fang Zhao having ‘a dark forest in his heart’ and the fact that his true nature is actually very cold-hearted & dangerous. on one of the last chapters, this is mentioned again and the author says “there is no way he can be gentle.” Fang Zhao has literally only gotten mad once??? why is this mentioned if his character is actually very stoic and calm?? this totally could’ve been expanded on... but it just wasn’t?? also, he won a Galaxy Supernova Award and had his sights set on the Galaxy Award or whatever, but he doesn’t get it? he had drive to get that award but it is forgotten after a few chapters. his character had so much potential.. why did the author screw him up?😭😭😭

[collapse]

the last few chapters felt so rushed it was hard to keep up.

Spoiler

there was literally a mini war with the Interplanetary Fund vs. Tomorrow’s Empire but this is just casually glossed over. LMAO I was on the floor reading it because it was so haphazard. he was literally just like “gear up guys we’re going to war.” speaking of Tomorrow’s Empire, they too didn’t have their full potential shown. occasionally there would be attacks from ‘T’ then they would disappear out of the story. towards the end the author actually started to write about this terrorist organization, but it was done in the worst way possible? they started duking it out on Fang Zhou’s island for the last few chapters, then they disappeared again. Tomorrow’s Empire could’ve been a great plot point but it was screwed up 😭

[collapse]

i think this is a good read for anyone who is into the slice-of-life & comedy genre. it mainly focuses on Fang Zhao’s daily life. action isn’t a big part of this story, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you will be disappointed. there are also a lot of plot-holes and inconsistencies in this novel. I have mixed-emotions about this one, but I think you should give it a read.

For what it is, it's a good novel. The problem is that I don't really enjoy what it is.
This novel consists of around 30% plot and 70% reactions to the plot (and that's a conservative estimate).
The plot part is very well executed, the writing is good, yet I feel that it's drowned by a huge amount of unnecessary "reactions".

For many chapters it has been hinted that the protagonist is going for a military service. That made me hope that it's finally time for some adventure. Yet my hopes were dashed. Turns out that his military service will be part of a celebrity report. Protagonists first arrival at the space station, boarding on an interstellar spaceship and arriving on a border human colony are glossed over in a few sentences, yet we often get 2 whole chapters for people reaction to his actions. There are no descriptions about how the spaceship looks like, how is the planet. We jump straight to a video report of the protagonist eating some weird food and people's reaction to it.

If that's your thing, give this novel a read, it will most likely be enjoyable. But if you hope for something more, you will not find much of it in the first 185 chapters.

Very nice novel. Not like IRAS at all. The MC really likeable. Only of hint of romance added which is great (I don't like harem, ecchi stuff). The only disappointment was we never gonna knew what happen to his friends and family, or

2.5 I have quite strict standards, but don’t let my rating bar you from reading. For this story is also an enjoyable read. I still can’t forget it even after some time.

The story is large. As in we don’t only have one goal or event. It’s more like our MC dabbling in different arcs on how he’s living (slice of life?) in this new era. Up till the end, he is composing. No Love Interest (which was interesting and the story isn’t lacking so even without one. The one... more>> variable always next to the MC all through the end is his dog, curly hair lmao), for all of them looks like babies and if not, slightly older people compared to his soul’s age, and no one could compare to Fang Zhao’s presence. It’s all Fang Zhao’s time trying to enjoy and “live” in the new era. Besides that, I felt that although he tried to fit in, he is still an alien or relic from the old era and he couldn’t shake that off or that he seriously doesn’t need a love interest. Even if it’s a transmigration type, this novel is quite interesting in its own league.

This should be the summary (with some edits) lol -> The story started with one of the then major generals, Fang Zhao, dying before his comrades and before the start of the new age from the period of destruction (He was an old man besieged with old age and dozens of sickness). Aside from being a key player during that bloody era, he was a somewhat well-known composer during the old era but wasn’t able to have a concert of his own. Now, our protagonist after dying was reborn 500 years into the future in a newly graduated composer’s body who tried to do su*cide. (From that, we’ll see until the end how, because of his past life’s age, he acts like/has a temperament of an old man. I like that compared to transmigrated or reincarnated old characters that have their personalities thwarted, this MC has retained his old man tendencies till the end uwu). The story isn’t limited to one event or a straight one plot. More than what the summary gave, We will see the world 500 yrs into the future and how Fang Zhao lives in it, where at the same time, he would always deliver some face-slapping and jawbreaking performances that would always land him in the news’ headlines. From composing to a different continent and planet adventures to some jawbreaking esports activities to military actions (like making discoveries and battling terrorists (major OwO to his diting ears lmao)) to some entertainment/movie acting to holding his own concerts, and many more others.

Diving more details into the story, and starting with the world-building, one word - HUGE. It encompassed the whole world and planets (What I’m amazed at is how this story’s world is like advanced human civilization but before the interstellar world tropes since they’re just starting to develop the planets and slowly trying to make them able to be lived in with migrants (well, I just found it cool how it starts from there before it became the interstellar age). Also, how there are different cultures or ways of life in different districts/places like with Muzhou and then the different development levels of each planet he traveled to. However, its cons would be how it’s slightly cardboard or because of how huge it is, some contents were explained as something like countries or how people are just so united or without much oomph.

  1. Other drawbacks: how they’ve somewhat tried filling up the explanations and plot-holes with how f*cking artistic is Fang Zhao (omfg like every single time they’ve concluded Fang Zhao to be artistic as the reasoning to all of his crazy antics every time is eye-rolling since it really ain’t all that miracle breaking to be artistic. Fang Zhao’s level is really too different and other artists — I’m betting on craziness or eccentric on their personal level that artistic craziness as a whole). Until the end, I couldn’t count anymore how much I’ve read them being wowed at how artistic some charas are especially the protagonist;
  2. How some people like venerable Mo is somewhat restrictive towards the mc’s movements and always tries to make him busy or divert his attention to composing, and him + that movie director feeling that they’ve done such a huge deed rearing Fang Zhao until now but it’s also hugely part of his abilities, that he is already great even before the two discovered him;
  3. How he op in other fields (I get that it could be factored to him picking sh*t up from the period of destruction but then, because of him already on the apex, there’s not much on personal development besides him getting more mellow till the end and gaining more and more knowledge especially his improvement in his music career (IM ACTUALLY GLAD WE HAVEA CALM AND COMPOSED MC (maybe also because he was authoritative figure before and that he’s so old soul-wise (makes me also look at other characters as kids lol) ; and
  4. how some of the characters are forgotten (like Muzhou people and arc) because of how large our story is and how some characters are cardboard boxes that are just there for the plot or to make the MC shine more (though I’m glad some old topics we’re still brought back like his esports activities). Another thing (it’s not really a con but one of the things that made me continue raising my interest in this novel is how curly hair is so novel (I felt he could have his own story lmao). To the point where it was only near the end, at chapter 480 where all the mysteriousness towards curly hair was explained. Which also connected to the mysteriousness of the grandfather of the present interplanetary fund leader.
Some arcs I like:
Spoiler

I’ll limit it to three for this review. I'm a Lil sad that nobody remembers or was able to link Fang Zhao to THAT Fang Zhao but at the same time, I’m glad for his second life. One of my favorite arcs would probably be the esports because we were able to see slightly how he lived during the period of destruction and then because of him being a point sweeping demon lmao HE LOOKED LIKE HE AIN’T PLAYIN A GAME BUT REMINISCING HIS PAST LIFE’S ACTIONS XD... the movie-making arc was also nice because of seeing the different actors acting and Fang Zhao slightly letting loose his authoritative aura from the period of destruction xD and was able to live eating lots like the 10 layered lunchbox hahaha I’ll miss that. Additionally, we were able to see some actions from curly hair especially that miracle performance where he didn’t die from being shot, making the MC wonder more what kind of pet is curly dog haha. Ah, another favorite is the sheep herding competition because of the personal development of the boy there, from a no-name farm to champion. And, I was so amazed during Fang Zhao’s quick decision making in using the fiery bird’s 10th gen console to protect them.

[collapse]

For the ending, It felt somewhat abrupt
Spoiler

like, they tried to put all the action near the end and after making nanfeng know the truth about curly hair and protecting little bear from one of T’s attacks, it suddenly ended. Although, I guess it’s also planned since they made it end at the start of a new era - the era of warp engines and quicker migration&space exploration. Additionally, the way Fang Zhao ended or the way the narration ended is slightly all right (the closure)... I just wish they built it up more to prepare us for the ending. Right now that I’ve ended it, I’m sometimes having nostalgia from some of the arcs from missing it lol since it was a slightly large ride I mean, 507 chapters ride xD (two last chaps were just searched from an mtl site which is okay for me since it’s somewhat understandable and I wanted closure already). One thing I didn’t like is how Fang Zhao just gave the rabbit away LIKE 1 or 2 CHAPTERS AWAY FROM THE ENDING... after so many chapters of being with it, I DIDN’T EXPECT FOR HIM TO SUDDENLY GIVE IT AWAY :’ ( (I’ve grown some attachments to it sobs. On another note, another thing I’ve picked up from the novel is right now, I’m slightly sensitive to bgm lmao especially in movies xD and songs that made me criticize some a bit haha. AT LEAST GIVE ME SOME SIDE STORIES SOBS

[collapse]

All in all, the story is too large from one sitting and I bet it’s somewhat hard to continue it thoroughly till the end. But, the story is really good to take on especially to pass the time and if you want to immerse yourself in the story’s world and in all of Fang Zhao’s journey. And although he is somewhat op, there were still some slight personal developments like trying to adapt himself in the new era and then, some advancements in his composer path with all the studies he took and even taking a teacher. I’m glad he was able to fulfill his second life, and I’ll miss waking up and sleeping to Fang Zhao’s actions and adventures. There were some drawbacks but in everything, it was an okay ride, the 500+ chapters were worth it and you wouldn’t notice them, since it was a light read of a journey than jam-packed info dumped chapters (some even felt like filler chaps that’s okay if it’s not there). In short, I’ve satisfied myself with 500 chaps and maybe only read some parts in the future or not going back at all but just remember this novel. <<less

Extremely interesting the whole way, even up to the final abrupt ending. Since it is more slice of life, the plot being cut off doesnt affect the novel too badly (imo). The characters are still interesting enough to read through and imagine the ending as you want. Read this for the characters and the setting instead of huge plot twists and sprawling complicated thought processes.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the last two chapters are locked behind an elevated paywall (beyond the usual spirit stones, it also requires the app to... more>> be installed, which is extremely annoying). This note is to mention that the last two chapters basically dont have anything important, no loss in skipping them. Quite impossible to find just through google as well. <<less

The language feels nice to read. But there's somewhat way too few interesting moments/arcs. MC creates music, the crowd goes "Whoah! Impossible-incredible etc etc" and that is pretty much it so far. The thief is already revenged, lots of side-characters appear, and... so what?.. Feels like a story about bragging.

The futuristic world is somewhat interesting, some realism about it makes it nice (but as well feels somewhat disgusting due to that theres already flying cars, spaceships, easy 200-year living but still powerty, bragging, luxury, bullies etc). MC is okay, a... more>> talented person who wishes to make use of his talent. Quite mature, but somewhat got the feeling about some grandpa showing off his big cabbage (though MC somehow doesn't even react to his success and takes it as granted, but then there's plenty of other people around him who does brag and is awe-struck so that the MC somehow sticks to his... pure (?) image). <<less

Aah... what a nice slice of life novel. I'm glad I read it~

It's your mainstream reincarnation, seemingly-genius-because-he's-actually-an-old-man-with-tons-of-experiences-and-not-a-normal-teenager MC story. Where Fang Zhao will figuratively slap anyone who mock him with his excellent work. He is not an arrogant MC, nor he's stubborn. He's smart. He knows what he's good at and that's the reason why he appear to be so OP

Spoiler

I like the Gamer arc, btw. The imagery of Fang Zhao, killing all of those monster, doing a 360 drift on a motorcycle while swapping the guns whenever he spend all of its bullets was freaking awesome!

[collapse]

Also, kindly remember that, this novel may be slice of life, but there is a fantasy element in it as well.

Spoiler

Seriously. I should not have been that surprised when it turned out that Curly Hair is an alien and Fang Zhao's hearing is even more powerful than an owl lol

[collapse]

Unfortunately, the opening was kinda... gloss over. The author should've, at least, use chapter one to explain what was MC doing before he reincarnated. Maybe the cause of his death or something. THEN chapter 2 is where he finally reincarnated. I think the pace will be a bit better that way

Spoiler

And, typical of Slice of life novel, the story ended just like *snap finger* that. The conflict didn't mean anything to Fang Zhao himself. It was there just so Nanfeng realized that his boss is a lot more powerful than he looks. And Curly Hair is an alien he should've fear. Fortunately, every questions that I have regarding this story were answered. Even the 'Outsider' folks, that I still feel like it came out of nowhere, was explained. So, yeah. An okay ending

[collapse]

Anyway, real review. 3/5. I cannot give it a solid 4 because of the ending. And I do think that the quality of the story went down after he join the university. But it's still a nice novel overall and you guys should check it out :D <<less

3 is too low, 4 is still passable.

The main genre is slice-of-life. There's not much of the other genres and if you remove it, the whole novel isn't that much.

For people to enjoy this, just focus on the slice-of-life. I could've given this a solid 5 if there's another genre aspect that stands out or romance was a main part of it. I don't really like slice-of-life only novels so from that, you could say that this is still a good read.

It’s a great read.

It’s not about being the best, which the MC is, but just doing your best? Of course, it sets records, but it doesn’t really feel that special because it wouldn’t make sense for our MC to lose. The dog’s cute but I want to see more of MC just being OP. Especially the VR part. What can I say, I’m just a who*e for VR novels. There is no development in the MC, be it in his skills or relationships, but that’s okay. He’d probably feel like... more>> a creep with how old he technically is.

There’s not much of a plot. It’s just him steamrolling everyone. That’s the core essence of this novel, but it doesn’t suck. Oddly enough. It’s well-written and it doesn’t go boring, which is nice. The other characters are meh.

Thanks to the author, translator and editors for their hard work! <<less

I love this novel, and almost everything about it. The mature protagonist, the non violent young masters. The MC gets to do what he wants, not because of the plot forcing him.

The only problem I hated was the ignorance of the future people, forgetting even elementary stuff yet calling themselves the smarter versions of their predecessors.

The main problem I had with this novel was the obsession of MC with past. Always around when they glorify his past friends, having declared he moved on but still coming back, can only like... more>> old technology.

The most triggering thing in this novel is how everybody treats MC like a toddler, giving him advice to not be hauty and arrogant because he's too young. If it's once or twice it's kindness, but here it becomes pointless nagging every two chapters. I just hate how he can't stop it even though it's pointless concern. <<less
