I started reading the chapters only after c709 was released and I binge read it. Have to say that I did not regret it...

Other people's complaint is that MC is OP.... Of course he is OP, his luck stat was above 10 right at the start ?

There is good logic and reasoning for all decisions and there is a good emotional background provided for all dumb actions ??? Such authors are not the regular thrash authors...

... more>> Negatives : MC harms innocent people for revenge

He expects that his Guild will be fine while he is roaming... MAJOR PLOT HOLE

But I liked the story, the novel gets 4.3/5 <<less

TLDR: Shura’s Wrath blends together xianxia and VRMMO. Expect lots of posturing, powerups, and patriarchy. Great fight scenes, everything else is subpar. I’d recommend skipping ALL the character sheets and stat points filler. Heavy on the harem, with some NSFW content.

PROS

- Decent world-building. Without any spoilers, the real world and the VR world are more than it seems at first glance.

... more>> - Descriptive, intense battles.

CONS

- The main character embodies the typical xianxia male power fantasy meathead cliche. Reckless, vengeful, dumb.

- All female characters basically exist as walking v*ginas for the MC to stick it in. Harem includes underaged girls.

- The author doesn’t give a hoot about the video game aspect after a few chapters. It’s just there to justify giving the MC occasional cheats. Anything goes, plot armor galore.

- Literally, entire chapters are dedicated to stat pages and skill explanations full of nonsensical numbers. A new low in padding the word count.

ATG Note: Shura’s Wrath shares the same author as Against the Gods, and a lot of tropes are recycled. If you love or hate ATG, then you’ll feel the same about Shura’s Wrath. <<less

Honestly quite enjoyable. Was refreshing compared to most standard vrmmorpg simply because it isn't one

Spoiler

Apparently a whole world has been converted into a virtual one and so the MC greatly exceeding the "non-existant" boundary of being a broken op character should be given some leeway considering the virtual world isn't made by a human company and although is designed like a game it's purpose extends beyond that. My only complaint is the excessive racism and that the MC takes things too far, but it's a chinese novel so what can you expect?

[collapse]

Overall good reading so far despite some parts that is plain cringe to read. <<less

I decided to try and finish a Mars novel. Did so. Regret it so intensely... it's just everything wrong about a CN novel, yet I couldn't stop since I was already so far in, MTL-wise.

Personally, I dislike the idea of VR/Reality merging or VR actually being another reality/world. I could just barely get through Praise That Orc as it was short and had Turtle translating it. Mars is just plain disappointing...

This is a great read

All the volumes of this story are amazing, But at volume 4 the story starts getting much more serious and the MC is going through many hardships at this point but he continues forward and his luck never fails him.

If there was one thing I didn't like about this it would be the fact that the MC is so lucly that all these amazing seemingly impossible encounters continuously happen and he keeps getting stronger off of items and not his own strength.

There are times where the... more>> MC improves through his own effort but these moments are alot less than the timea where he obtains an amazing item from some type of divine being who felt generous and happened to drop it on the head of a unsuspecting passerby that just happened to be him.

This story even though I have dislikes I also have likes and I believe it deserves the fice star rating. <<less

I don't usually write reviews, in fact I think this might be my first, but I figured i'd make an exception for this. This is the most entertaining garbage i've ever read. With the exception of the first 20 or so chapters, the writing is complete tr*sh. MC is a gary stu, side characters basically don't matter and are pushed to the sidelines, most of the time you see the side characters they're talking about the MC whether he's there or not, game is broken as f*ck, MC has bs... more>> luck, there's a few r*pe scenes, MC gets a type of mind control power that will make you sick to your stomach, and the author is very clearly racist against Japanese (Which, I understand is not uncommon in china but I still don't think he should have made it influence his work) big spoiler down below if you wanna check it.

Spoiler

at one point the earth gets destroyed, but before that you have 2-3 chapters of the Japanese just getting slaughtered and their military being stomped on, after that the earth just blows up, no other country gets attacked.

[collapse]

And yet, despite everything I just mentioned, I read it to completion. Every part of my being wants to throw up at once as I type this, but the truth of the matter is that this is actually really entertaining. Everything about this novel is bad, EVERYTHING, even the fights are bad because the monsters always have a bs weakness that the MC exploits and the human players can't touch him, it's complete sh*t but I kept going. Even when the translated chapters were done I kept going, even when I felt like complete crap for reading this I still kept going.

This is not good writing, not by any stretch of the imagination, however despite being crap writing it's a good read and entertaining story, it keeps you engaged and enthralled even when you call bs and hate on it. It kills time well, read at your own peril, just know that if you do, there's a high chance you'll feel really disgusted with yourself by the end. <<less

I wanted to give a 3 due to its great start, but becomes bad later on. The MC was OP, but the enemies as well, so he struggled, but as the story progresses it loses it edge. The others player are so weak compared to him that the whole MMOVR setting is pointless. Only monsters can. I bet by chapter 400, if all the players in the game challenge him, hundread millions of players, he can kill them all or escape.

Great story, good characters but what's terrible is how descriptive the author is in some aspects. For example when describing beautiful or alluring woman, he literally rambles on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and in the end it's basically the same line repeated several dozen times using different phrasing. Qi yue is the biggest example I can think of.. After literally 5 chapters where he's constantly describing her "alluring figure and voice as charming as spring flowers" and the... more>> MC finally exits the cave he was stuck in, he then dedicates an entire chapter about her seductiveness. It's to he point where it goes from entertaining to annoying. But overall the story is great and has a great balance between irl and in game time where the characters are developing in both worlds and not just in one. <<less

Wouldn't recommend.

This is a classic of the genre. A must read. One of the first novels breaking the isekai-mmorpg fourth wall. Dozens of clones were written, even some popular ones by US writers ("Man Made God" series by Brandon Varnell is a blatant ripoff of this novel). It is also written by Mars Gravity, a genius that later will give us the masterpiece of xianxia literature known as "Against The Gods". Before the chinese government crackdown on erot*c elements in novels he was one of the best at... more>> writing the harem part of fantasy novels, and it shows here. Female characters in Shura's Wrath are all deep and fascinating, not your usual stereotyped beauties. I personally don't like LitRPG or GameLit novels much, preferring pure xianxia genre, but this one is not the usual LitRPG with boring grinding repetitive action. This novel is more about breaking the scheme and defying the ordinary mmorpg rules at each step, bringing a shocking discover after another. In the latter part it completely transcends both the LitRPG and the Isekai genre, becoming more similar to a xianxia. Somehow it remembers me of the tv series "Lost". The genius of Mars Gravity cannot be underestimated, he is really one of the greatest eastern fantasy writers of our times, almost on par with ErGen, I Eat Tomatoes, Heavenly Silkworm Potato and Mao Ni. <<less

the worst novel I have ever read. When you see mmorpg you would think that there are game elements, gamers etc. But no this is just a tr*sh xuanhuan type cultivation novel where the cultivation system is a game. There are arrogant young masters and rest of the bullsh*t is also similar. All that happens in other YY novels is just happening inside a game. If the girls were nice I would continue but qi yue acts like third class cheap w**re. When MC lets yun meng xin, li xiao... more>> xue and qi yue lead MC by the nose, I really want to smash my computer. If he acted sternly or swetly I wouldn't mind, but acts like a inferior being. Also the protagonist is the same as Yun che, using brains and fists usually but against females using only his cr*tch to think. Btw I like ATG, the personality problem of Yun che is slightly ignorable because of the plot, setting and girls.

One thing that completely spoils the appearance description of a girl is the thing that their beauty is compared to other girls of the harem, that is really infuriating.

this is not a famous novel so most probably you are here because you ATG or because of the MMORPG tag. All negative aspects I found in ATG are also present here so if those things do not infuriate you, you can give this novel a try. But if it is the mmorpg tag then I can confidently say that you are going to fall into a scam.

I might be wrong about this but I am sure that the MC will surpass everyone including the harem. So when the girls run away themselves, it is really irritating. Maybe one of them loves to be independent, maybe one likes to adventure alone. But if the rest can leech off the MC and have a romantic time that would be much better than the "i will become strong for blah blah reason/person" because in the end their rate of growth will be better and on a larger scale with MC than roaming alone. It is easy to imagine one person is doing things that impact the whole continent and person is doing hunting chores for some npc. i was looking for novels with S*x. If I found a novel with a awesome story and world building, then it is fine if it were cliche and stale I still wouldn't care but Shura's wrath is so bad in every aspect that it is now the worst novel I have ever read. <<less

This turned out to be an incredible adventure novel. At first (first ~150 chapters perhaps) it looked like just a streamlined power fantasy but suddenly it got a lot of depth both to characters and to the world building.

The pacing was good most of the time (yeah, I'm looking at you, city defense chapters) and it's a surprisingly good story with lots of moving parts and ups and downs. I especially appreciated how the author clearly made an effort to fill in plot holes and although it sometimes felt like... more>> sweeping the holes under the rug they at least got addressed. Pretty often we would get huge info dumps about status windows and item descriptions which could be disruptive but honestly, I greatly prefer to have info windows with mostly repeated information that I can skim through rather than having a poorly fleshed out power system where we don't know how strong the MC actually is.

My biggest peeve in all of this was that the MC insisted on always choosing the path of most resistance, even when the path doesn't necessary lead to any of his goals, and somehow he never gets punished in any lasting way.

Peeves aside the biggest actual problem in this novel is without a doubt the randomly injected racism arc. It has no impact on the story, no build up and no consequences whatsoever. It also makes no sense storywise that the guy living with hate, or in best case indifference, towards everyone besides his close loved ones would pick up such a strong nationalistic racism towards the japanese. Of course it's not just the MC but the phrasing even out of character does its best to implicate every single japanese as a dishonest, immoral and cowardly crook at any given opportunity. That whole conflict is unbearably forced and really just comes across as a way for the author to display his hatred for the japanese while normalizing it by saying "... and the whole world was watching and they all stood up and clapped". Racism can be used as a tool to enhance and describe a political/social environment (like the usual demi-human racism) and can be used for story development but that is clearly not the case here.

This could have been a masterpiece with a great story, a whole bunch of interesting character arcs, a harem that is saucy enough to develop the characters but not to dominate the overall story, a few moments of golden comedic timing in the otherwise pretty serious tone and a real roller coaster of emotions. Instead it is just a very good novel with a large stain of racist hatred. <<less

Started good, but after chapter 400~ is just went absolute downhill, the hate on the japanese players was absolutely unnecessary and weird, the MC was calculative and cold before that but for some reason he just threw all that of the window and just said "well I'm in the jap players zone mow, so f*ck it I'll humiliate them as much as I can for no reason".

If u can get past that it only gets worse, dropped a few chapters after that cause the MC just became the generic harem... more>> owner, OP, and empty MC that see in most WN.

Had great potential but the autor destroyed it, RIP <<less

Spoiler

I loved when Sha Sha had her little scenes where it would say randomly "Sha Sha's eyes glinted with a mysterious light." Then a miricle happened where someone can now feel and taste and another can actually speak more than one word.

What a great adventure. The pacing was excellent. The character development of the characters was done well.

The harem was well written. All of the women were lovable and had their own personalities.

The ending was nicely done. Had quite a few chapters at the end that were devoted to the happily ever after, that most novels lack. Most novels only devote a paragraph at the end to the happy ending.

I'd recommend this novel to anyone who likes harems, badass main characters, fantasy mixed with... more>> reality and adventure. <<less
