Chaotic Evil Villainess novels are generally fun for the first couple of chapters then quickly peter out, so when the initial rush wears off there is a temptation to check out.

Stick with this one. After the end of the first major arc I will admit that there are 8-12 chapters (all short and around 40 or so, whenever it is she goes underwater) where it looks like things are starting to lag, but trust me, if you like the genre, if you make it through this patch, the ride from... more>> then just keeps getting better.

Chaos hasn't been this much fun since Elric. <<less

This an extremely good story. At first I thought it would be funny, and have an interesting world. This goes above and beyond my initial expectations. It goes deep in to the mc's motivations.

Spoiler

In the chapter 79, it starts to show why the MC is like this. Here father neglected her and thought of her as a mu*derer ever since her mother died, and she feels extremely aggravated seeing people getting the affection she wanted but couldn't get.

On top of all that, the MC is a badass with amazing technical skill <<less

TL;DR: Not for the faint-hearted, doesn't have cute moments, takes a bit to get used to the random violence and reading the story in between, but it's enjoyable overall and has quite a bit of future potential. The translation is also pretty good.

----------------------

A story about a psychopath who isn't specifically designed to be more likable. She doesn't reflect the psychopathic side of the thoughts of regular people (like people coming up with plans to mu*der someone without actually doing it) but rather is a pure psychopath with literally zero empathy;... more>> she doesn't even understand the concept.

She's brutally toying with actual people (i.e. Torturing and injuring them) just to see what happens and has eventually stopped doing so in reality due to being told, not because she understands the reason, and now she's found a release in this VRMMORPG.

She doesn't talk that much, so most of the early chapters don't allow for a deeper view into her character and she seems pretty flat, but the most recent chapters at the time of writing this review start to show the first signs of depth and character development.

The game itself is the standard unrealistic one where players entirely dive into a game world that for some reason has incredibly high realism (especially in regards to violence) and even supposedly transmits pain. Supposedly the highest setting (which the MC chooses) can also affect you in real life if a vital organ is destroyed. This doesn't ever come up again however. There are tons of unnecessarily detailed skills and it seems foolish to even try to keep track of them because of how fast the MC requires them. The important ones will come up in the story anyway, the rest is just bloating the status.

Lastly, concerning the society of players in the game: I vaguely understand that they would be opposed to killing friendly NPCs that don't respawn (again, who would make a game like this?), but I just don't understand the emotional attitude towards more or less instantly respawning players being killed in a game that has PvP enabled as a clear part of its design. Again, unlike what was mentioned before, nobody is said to have died from it in real life, and even if they did, it would have been their fault for having their pain setting at maximum (I mean it would technically be the fault of the provider of the game, but that is where one has to suspend their disbelief). People running around in PvP games indiscriminately killing literally everyone they see including NPCs is absolutely not a rare phenomenon in reality, but for some reason her attitude of doing it rather than her skill of being able to do it is what other players focus on (they do mention her skill, but in reality it would be the only thing anyone cares about, not the actual act of killing other players in a PvP game). <<less

Let me say this from the start:

I have finished the raws and this is one of the most cruellest novel I have ever read. You basically have a overpowered girl that have an ungodly amount of personal skills just having fun "playing".

Let's start:
Rena (MC) is cruel. Not just cruel like she doesn't care about innocent people getting dragged into her her fight. No. She care about innocent people. She WANTS them to be dragged into her 'play'.

This novel is actually well written and very well thought out. I honestly... more>> didn't find any plot holes holes in the story even after finishing to the last chapter in the web novel the author left out at.

The world building could be said lacking because it was gradually revealed to you in small detail, but also very interesting because the world Reina lived (real life) developed differenly from us which in turn resulted in normal people having different common sense than us. If I have to describe it, the society there view a massacre much more normal that you would think. After all in that world
Spoiler

is probably the year 2300 or something because when Reina is in history class the teacher are explaining about the cause of world war 3 and 4.

[collapse]
But the fact that the NPC's in this game world is human (I'm talking about the AI being so perfect, it's undistinguishable from human in real life) just make Reina (Rena) even crueler.

Next I want to talk about is the characters. Be it the NPC's or the player. The characters around the MC is honestly very likeable, like one of the best character you would want in a novel as a side character (if only the MC is not like that...) but they still shine bright even compared to the MC herself because of how 'humane' they're which greatly contrast the MC very 'inhumane' behavior of mimicry she usually show in real life. So the characters around the MC doesn't feel like a cardboard cut out or some straight guy who points everything wrong like a parrot.

Lastly let's talk about the MC. Ichijou Reina. She's both a very simpe character but also very complex one, because the relationship she had with her mother (I won't put a spoiler about what her mother is) But exactly because she is the daughter of that. She is like that more or less. Many people like myself included may find Reina too broken, too fallen, or too unfixable. Her inhumane nature with her lack of common sense even when told something as simple as: "what if you put yourself in that situation" she would simply said: "?. But I'm not in that situation?" That is practically impossible to persuade would simply impossible to become a normal human even after she herself trying her best to become normal. But

Spoiler

She's more human than you think.

She think about herself, she think about her deceased mother, she think about her relationship with her family, and feel lost about her position in society.

Those are things normal human thinks about...

After our Reina told everything from start to finish about her to him. Letting everything out to someone for the very first time in her life. why she's 'playing', why She's like that. After hearing what he had to say she finally take the right step for the first time instead of waiting for things to fall to its own place. On chapter 295 in web novel.

[collapse]

HE FIXED HER.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That is worth the wait and build up <<less

its a great novel, only part I don't like is her fight with her siblings bc that is some grade A power of friendship bullsh*t

Spoiler

i f*cking refuse to believe that her siblings can somehow match against her in just one day of playing, before you say that they killed high level players and speed leveled, our MC have been killing thousands of npcs and players, quite alot of high leveled people too, also they don't have the same level of skill our MC has, its literally their first time playing and fighting people, no way in hell will they be able to put up an even match against her, who solo entire armies, top ranked parties and players, but they somehow managed, MC skills magically got reduced by 80% in their presence for some bullsh*t reason

[collapse]

otherwise great novel <<less

Not gonna bother with a full review, but instead just gonna give a little warning.

This story is not for people who're unable to enjoy a VRMMO story with a game that would never work in real life. If you're unable to ignore the unrealistic parts of the game in the story, don't bother with this one. This story is probably not for you unless you're able to ignore that and just enjoy reading about an overpowered girl going on a killing spree in a game.

I like this novel very much. MC is a unique character. MC is clever on her own way. MC understand herself she is very strange (physically and mentally). MC seems life as a play ground like pumping water to ant nest and make people to chewing insects. MC seems this world different way. The only person who can help to her to control herself is her mother and her father hate her didn't care about her but she didn't know reason. One day MC saw her mother apologising to teacher... more>> for her playing. After that at school MC didn't play at school. She like to be lonely and quiet that help to her control her psychopathic side and act as a refined lady. After her mother death MC thinks she cannot control psychopathic side so decide to show her psychopathic side at game. <<less

Very fun and huge points for uniqueness. Although definitely, some people might find it too over the top. Out of hundreds of novels I've read, I'm not aware of anything remotely similar. Basically the WN version of someone messing around in grand theft auto.

Decent novel but not very detailed, the MC is close to emotionless and brutal as the blurb describes but it's missing anything that makes her seem as evil or brutal since most of the time she just randomly kills, the author does provoke the imagination in terms of how she kills but even then it doesn't seem as scary or anything since there is not much of a reaction from other Players.

Of course, the fact that it's also an online game makes it seem overall less brutal than say even... more>> Overlord where everyone IS real. There is also not enough real consequence for killing Players in this game as they can simply revive their character, this was probably the most annoying as it means no matter how many players she kills, they just come back instantly in the temple.

Well, at least the novel has a unique protagonist, she's got no humanity but that is fine, just not ideal that most of her actions have little consequence in the novel even where I'm at, you could argue that all she's really even done is just change the rulers of each city/country with little impact being seen on the overall world or citizens.

Also, the novel seems to have been dropped or something as the last update was in 2022, which is sad. <<less

In this unique VR genre novel, the tag 'Evil Protagonist' takes on a chilling meaning as the female lead, devoid of any moral compass, unleashes chaos, anarchy, and death without a hint of remorse. She revels in killing, viewing it as a twisted form of 'playing' rather than a heinous act. Her actions paint her as a psychopathic villain, spreading fear and destruction throughout the series. Despite a tragic backstory and a status as a Broken Villain, her sins are too grave to be forgiven.

What makes this story truly gripping... more>> is her unapologetic malevolence; she saves no one without ulterior motives and forms no genuine connections, only using others for her sinister purposes. Her nihilistic worldview adds depth to the narrative, contrasting sharply with players who attempt to be heroes but continually fall victim to her cunning schemes.

The tale delves into uncomfortable territory, yet its unparalleled originality is undeniably compelling. The protagonist's lack of empathy and moral boundaries leads her to employ psychological warfare, manipulating stronger foes and entire armies. Her tactics range from using children as shields to luring soldiers into traps, employing corpses to conceal explosives, and taking hostages – she's a literal terrorist and a complete anarchist.

In this dark and unsettling narrative, the lines between hero and villain blur, making it a truly one-of-a-kind novel that challenges conventional storytelling norms. <<less

If you wanna feel how its like to become a sicko who hunt everyone just because she thought it as a "game" and the people as her "toy" and experience a broken fak up family because her father is a piece of **** while missing 80% part of your soul and become "different than others" then your choice for coming here is indeed right one.

Well Joke aside, the story' is interesting and kinda new (atleast for me lol) and the battle part is always good, especially when everyone thought "Oh... more>> God, this sicko doing it again" while watching her slash everyone into pieces lol, sorry, well, for real the action is good especially when she do a battle between her and other pros. And the best are the drama. Its good when her siblings, well, half-siblings, especially her sister to confess her feelings about how she always dreaming to talk with her sister..., eat sweets together with her..., talk newly fashion with her and have experience with her older sister (MC) as a true family.... Sorry if I make the atmospheres sounds sad. Well, from me, you won't regret it. <<less

Started reading for a guilty pleasure.

Stayed for a complex world, diverse characters, Finally some good take on AI (at least not the usual binary "AI's don't feel" vs "idk just make them like humans"... damn my bar is low now), and of course guilty pleasure. With all the characters and evolution of MC - reactions to mc's actions just don't get old.

Wouldn't say it's quality writing, and it takes a while for plot twists to revile their glory, so for the first chapters many things seem dumb.

So I only recommend... more>> starting reading if you can get joy from the violence of MC, but don't want a simple story you can forget tomorrow. <<less

Just because you can have multiple perspectives doesn't mean you should always switch perspectives in the story. I don't want a new or different pov for almost every single chapter. I don't care what some characters are doing or thinking when I could be following the psychopathic mu*der machine. Also it makes the story harder to follow when a single event is unfolding from multiple people's shifting perspectives at the same time.

it's interesting to see a different kind of MC. You take a girl, make her completely clueless on how morals and ethics work, and give her absolute freedom to do whatever she wants without legal consequences. That's basically this story.

while the fights are always entertaining to read, what's interesting is the character development. Especially the main character, but be in for a slow burning ride. Honestly the fights are there just to draw you in.

its also interesting to see her actions influence others, including the AI based NPC's (they are... more>> practically human).

Spoiler

poor, poor princess.

[collapse]

I wonder what the story will be like in another 200-300 chapters, I'm not going to read this one ahead because I feel like it needs a proper translation to get the full experience.

i recommend this story if you like humor mixed with gruesome. <<less

well, what can I say? This whole game element is simply nonsense. Truly broken and cant be accepted. Is that how mass pvp based game works? Honestly the world building is 0. Minus even. MC isnt "likeable" at all even factoring many other MC with cold and ruthless personality.

Good novel if you like a MC OP and who kill almost everything that moves when rampage. But really, there is level and skill but MC dont care about it. She is super OP even when she is level 1 and she use daggers like pro and can throw them accurately even if its her first time with them. And nope, dont tell me that having a skill level 1 for dagger use and throwing make you skilled like god.

Let's all be honest in here, there's no way that a MMORPG where the NPCs do not respawn would have any living NPCs left in the first town within the first few hours after being launched, or any NPCs at all within the first few days. What bugs me more in this series is not the fact that she's just going around insta-killing everyone despite beign lvl 1, it's the inconcievable idea that there would even be people left for her to kill in a game like that at all.... more>> The author simply ignores the existence of the trolls that make up a significant part of the players in any given multiplayer game. I signed up to read about a sadistic sociopath torturing and killing women and children and using clever schemes to get away with it, not to read about an internet troll PKing in a VRMMORPG. <<less

A weak start, but then picks up and dives into the insanity of the MC for a bit, only to completely start to unravel, adding more and more characters, convoluted twists and plots. The narrative simply fails to form a cohesive, intetesting plot. Instead there's several stories kinda thrown in a blender, then add a checklist of atrocities for Reina to do and that's basically the story in a nutshell, a semi coherent mess that has interesting elements, but also are just so badly cobbled together it loses all meaning.... more>> Not to mention the plot threads that are abandoned all over the place. <<less

Damnnn I love this novel so much, I'm surprised I'm only now giving a review. The main character is interesting and her actions are both unexpected and sometimes hilarious. Expect a lot of action like a sh*t ton. Throw ethics and morals out of the window while you're at it because she massacres everyone. Young, old, man, woman, good, and bad. In general she just do whatever her heart desires and that mostly relies on whether that something is fun/interesting. She's both cute and terrifying cuz her common sense is... more>> a lil off.

The plot is keeps you at the edge and makes it made me wanna binge read it (which I did). Her growth particularly on her social side is always a joy to read because of the way she interacts with them. Going from an impossible person to approach to having people to call her friends is pretty heartwarming. Both her game life and real life are fun to read. All in all this is a 10 for me. I never get bored reading and re reading this <<less
