By some ill fortune, Hikaru died in a traffic accident. He was in heaven standing in line, waiting to be judged, when he took an unexpected request to transfer his soul to a person in another world. He received an ability called Soul Board which he could use to allocate points to Skills to make himself more powerful.

But there was a catch…

「I want you to take revenge on someone for me within an hour. If you don’t, I’ll destroy your soul.」

To pull off the task assigned to him, he poured all his available points to the Stealth skill tree.

This is a story of a boy who specialized in Stealth. With his skill trees as weapons, he would demonstrate his unrivaled strength in another world.

People expect way too much from a shounen novel. Everytime that tag show up expect a MC who either dumb as a rock and a saint with no killing rule, despite the criminal commit heinous crime.

Shounen is mostly for kid, and there will be no people die by MC's hand. This MC only kill one person so far (guess who). Most of his victim does broken alot of bones tho, at least they live right?

And having s*x with some one you're romantically interest in doesn't make you a chad. MC... more>> still evade all woman that throw themselves at him, not rejecting them and giving them false hope that one day they will have a spot in his harem.

Author making people around MC acting dumb just to show how MC is so damn "smart" is just bad writing. Most of the time people don't even act their age.

Novel worth reading if you have nothing else to do. Most of the time you only need to read like 2/5 of a chapter to get the gist of it, since most of them are filler or show how badass/smart our MC is. <<less

Im just ganna say this unlike the other raters who rated so slow and didnt analyze the story a bit.

1. Cliche yes

2. The MC is a "normal" person as a highschooler age who died and no sad backstory.

... more>> 3. The MC is average interms of intelligence and not smart as he analyzes his way through his problem and not act like a douge or infodump us with his "smart" strategy as that would bore us to death.

4. All the characters are NOT forgotten as I have read till this point so do remember that those rating that havent reached 100+ are total sh*t reviews.

5. The fact that I rated this 4stars becaude this novel is a good pass time and not and "excellent" novel that people are expecting as the author is most likely a beginner. <<less

I didnt expect much going in but ended up really enjoying this story. There are times after ch 230 or so that it gets kind of boring but its not too bad. The stealth aspect often time gets my heart pounding in suspense and the lore and relationships are usually pretty interesting.

Its basically a fun story overall, it tends towards edginess at times but not too much. Id say give it a try!

I am finding this an enjoyable read.

It is not in-depth, nor does it develop any single idea very much, but the overall tale is a relaxing easy read without much angst or frustration. Some stuff does come up occasionally but the author either resolves it quickly or recontextualizes it to not be a less negative or even slightly positive thing.

I actually feel relaxed and happy after reading it.

This was a GR8 LN starting off. Lots of action.

There is romance, maybe once, twice in all that I've read.

Really not a harem, but with a few other characters showing an interest in the MC, it does fit the new meaning of "harem" that LNs like to follow. Every time it seemed like there would be another love interest, the author put the brakes on it quite abruptly.

Like I said, the novel started out great. Typical shounen OP MC, typical shounen storyline, typical shounen in just about every aspect. The... more>> one good thing going is, it is not inundated with the typical over-used, cliche, immature, s*upid comedy. (Can you tell that I really hate shounen? Why read it? 1 out of a thousand actually turns out to be palatable.)

I really enjoyed the story up until it got into the arc I'm in middle of now, where they are in the "new world that was abandoned." You'll have to read it to see what I mean, but basically begins about ch 270? I think.

But yeah, I'm dropping it now, as the author has surpassed the line of idiocy, and everything is just too dim to digest (suffering the runs from it now). But, have fun with it. :) Oh, again, LNT outshines in the TL dept. Keep up the good work, senpais. <<less

The MC is kind of crappy.

When faced with a giant monster instead of getting the super powered magic user and let her take care of it.

He needs to hit the amazingly targetable kill spot so he looks good.

He has an assassin build but acts like he wants attention.

Started out great, then it just ended up meandering without purpose for a hundred chapters.

Whenever you want him to actually use his ability he says 'but I don't want to use my points'

This is typical JP mentality, they reserve their abilities until the last second and then get the sudden power up to succeed, like how the MC here puts all his points into his throwing skill and maxes it out. Or maxes out his stealth skill. Etc.

Which is a real shame, for a while the author had me thinking... more>> he was different, that this was an adult novel- what with how he bedded one of his harem members in less than 30 or so chapters. But nope, that's just a mask to pull you in, then you realise, it's the same old shit! <<less

This is one of the best isekai stories for me.

Not only Hikaru is smart/ cunning, but he's also an amazing character. And it's rare to see MC's where they are the ones that move behind the scenes. Well, there's Cid Kageno, but Hikaru is on another level. Cid is for comedy and Hikaru is for literal plot.

Moreover, the way he makes an entrance to someone's POV is just pure gold. He just appears and disappears whenever someone takes their eyes off of him. He also maneuvers his conversation with someone... more>> to whatever he like to just to make it preferable for him. That's why he's cunning.

His romance is also not that force, it feels natural, considering they both have POV for their romance. And I like it personally. He's not that dense, he's just cautious of who he is talking to, especially in the first few chapters.

For the plot, umm... it's about politics and adventuring.

So far 6/5 for me. That's how amazing the story is for me.

one thing I like is the MC is an assassin... the others are bad, especially MC's very strange and inconsistent nature... the story is also bad it's not clear who the enemy is and what the purpose is, plus he has assassin abilities but it's completely useless (assassin is useful for killing but the MC does not kill at all)

Wonderful story, action, power levels, mythology and characters. The story is quite good so far as well as the pace of the mystery. First arc may be little on obvious side but next arcs are quite interesting as the mystery depens. A slew of characters that may not be as prominent as main characters but nonetheless fitting to the their respective arcs. I am eager for more arcs.

Thankyou for the translations

I like the story so far, most of it about how MC try stay low key and end up involved like typical story plotline.

For me the MC is pictured as a genius young man, with to much confidence that make him seem arrogant, but keep denying it to try stay low key.

For the ladys in this story that like him mostly because he rescue them or seeing his power, standar way to fall in love.

I like this WN, just that, It has many good thing in my eyes, but maybe that "things" are only for me (no cringe moments, romance is noice and fluffy, MC is not dumb... also the WN it gives a vibe a lo Arifureta), so let's move to what I found "bad" imo.

-The pace is kinda fast? but not really? what I mean is, many things happen but you don't have the feeling that the time is advancing... (maybe just me?)

-The MC and co, they act too adult like... more>> for someone of 14-15 years old, with 1 or 2 more years it would have been credible.

-The relationship MC-Girl needed more "depth" at the start, but also this should have been applied to some other things, so maybe is how the author handled things.

-And now the worst one, why isn't this tagged as +18!?
Spoiler

SO MUCH HAND HOLDING!, like WTF? I'm not here for that kind of le*d read!

Also, this is the WN, is someone translating the LN? because it seems that some things are different from the WN version, and it would be nice to know what are they. <<less

It's not often for me writing a review this early into the story.

Quite a good novel, but the author doesn't know how to SHOW, he mainly uses Tell.

For example, there's a new character that has a supposedly interesting background, and the author is just too lazy to write anything and just put something like this in the passing without any foreshadowing whatsoever:

Jill had a secret. One of her older ancestors was a mythical fox spirit. Having inherited a bit of the blood, she could sense others' ulterior motives. Endowed with good looks, men full of ulterior motives swarmed her. At the young age of eighteen, she was already looking ahead in the long term. She had concluded that men were there to be used.
So what Jill looked for in men was their status. Status meant their wealth, social standing, and their strength. Since men were only after her for her looks, then she in turn would only look at their status.

[collapse]

And it just feels too simple (?), Because it just TELL you and not showing anything, and the author expect you to believe.

Character interaction is unnatural, some interaction between character is just so akward, it force me to stop reading this novel for a few days.

*CRINGE*

Anyway I'll try to keep this review updated and I'm using Engrish, so bear with it. <<less

This series is off to an excellent start, based on the fact that after catching up with currently translated chapters I couldn't resist using MTL to read the rest of volume 1. Based on that, I can say the concerns of the other reviewer who's worried about the MC turning out to be a herbivore are unfounded. By the end of volume 1 ... more>>

will be introduced as there will be a need for it.

The charm of this series is how the author managed to make an MC strong, but not too strong. His extraordinary abilities are all non-combat powers - physically he is much like any other sixteen year old human. His achievements are sufficiently grand to make the story interesting however he still has to work hard for them.

Those of us who were playing PC games back in ancient times might remember one called Thief: The Dark Project, which created its own genera focused on movement, planning, and avoiding combat. That's what this series feels like. A thinking protagonist who has to seize whatever advantage he can wring out of a situation rather than simply powering through a head on fight because some goddess randomly gave him absurd cheat powers.

Of course the possibility still exists that the author will fumble and ruin the story somehow in later volumes, but for now I'll give this one five stars and wait for the translator to catch up to the next volume.

Edit (chapter 83) : Downgrading this to three stars, The author used up all his good ideas in the first arc and each once since has gotten progressively less interesting. <<less

Story-wise, this novel is mediocre. Author has skewed logic in a few parts of the story, with quite a bit plot holes here and there. There are plenty of plot armours too. There are many characters left forgotten as the story progressed, and there's this one character that only appeared one time then not being mentioned at all even at c414 where the author went hiatus. Quite sad that both the romance and harem is half-baked at best, it even made me cringe. Only recommended for those who're really bored,... more>> otherwise nothing special about it. <<less

Having read Overlimit Skill Holder (2020) by the same author first, Rule Breaker (2017) gives the impression that its just the author's testing ground for modern isekai plot writing and worldbuilding.

However, the writing definitely shines through as one of the better ones amongst isekai novels. While the novel starts off cliched, the writing/plot gets better as the author becomes more experienced.

The Good

Spoiler
    • World building is superb. It is clear that the author plans out the relationships between each creature, country and etc., and constantly considers the effect of new plot points on them.
    • Characters are constantly being built and expanded upon. Introduced characters tend to be recurring instead of one use.
    • Storytelling and dialogue has depth and adds on to the world building.
[collapse]

The Okay

Spoiler
    • Skill system is pretty alright and power ups are not overly convenient.
    • Combat scenes are pretty straightforward (not many feints and twists due to MC's skillset).
    • Romance is cute but nothing great, nor is there large emphasis on it.
[collapse]

The Less Good

Spoiler
    • There are slight inconsistencies in writing or main cast behaviour, especially on the early arcs, probably as the author is still testing the waters. However, the story still flows nicely so any inconsistencies might not be obvious.
    • Abilities aside, the MC does not seem to grow mentally due to lack of challenges. There is too much reliance on MC's overpowered abilities to resolve situations and progress plot. Author also tends to preserve MC's overpoweredness by not presenting counters for his skill build (e.g. Large scale AOE crowd control etc.).

Actually MC is pretty much a glass cannon with any stray attack that can instantly kill him. That is the one thing that makes me the most annoyed and second of which is the fact that MC pokes his nose unnecessary into stuff he doesn't need to. Like for a guy who's main skill is stealth he sure doesn't know how to act stealthy. (Other than his skill)

Other than that though, the story is overall decent and I'd rate it 2.4 stars. (This is for WN version so idk... more>> if things are different in LN) <<less

I've already read until the lastest chapter and I really love this WN

The MC isn't your tipical isekai MC that is weak and too kind. This MC is pretty smart (don't compare it too other genius character like Sora etc). And although the MC is not super OP but he is really strong, his job is like assasin so he can one hit people if he do it stealthy. The romance is not the strong point of this series but it does have some romance and it's not bad.

Anyway just... more>> try to read it because I don't good at explaining what's good from some series, I guaranteed it's really good <<less

Well, indeed, this novel is just a popcorn, a good novel but has many flaw tbh.

Ex :

- the MC is smart, but he is too smart for his own good, he made small things big and made big things small

- (this is just my preference so don't judge it) honestly I don't like how the romance go on, 1st : they 'did' it too soon in my opinion, 2nd : he, the MC is indecisive or decisive? Well, typical hypocrite, why? Well, I just want to say, it's because he... more>> is only focused on one girl, but he's not give the other girls who interested in him a clear statement, (i know it will hurt them, but is not it fine?? If you give they a clear reply doesn't that mean you are resolute enough with a girl, and at least it made them grow after experiencing it??), 3rd : weeell, the soul system is inefficient, really, its like the author want to build a isekai with a unique system novel but he didn't think about it deep enough, 'cause I think the soul system have great potential.

(take note its just my opinion, people are different, also different people have different taste) <<less
