After the Villainous Supporting Male Had Raised the Wrong Canary

Description

Lu Bai had transmigrated into the novel “Gu Xue”. In this domineering pure love novel, he became the vicious supporting character who chased after the protagonist gong.

Just like countless other villains in novels, Lu Bai did all kinds of plot and schemes in order to obstruct (assist) the protagonist gong, Qin Gu, and the protagonist shou, Qu Xueyu from being together and eventually caused ruin to himself.

But Lu Bai, this villain, is a little special — he had a twisted mind and the way he courted disaster on himself was unusual.

When other villains would raise canaries and support substitutes, they would raise a substitute of their white moonlight.

However, Lu Bai raised the lover of his white moonlight– that is– a body double of the protagonist shou, Qu Xueyu—- He raised a canary that looked very similar to Qu Xueyu to, in nicer words, humiliate his love rival. In the end, he only brought himself to ruin.

After transmigrating, Lu Bai took a look at the tooth rotting plot and got a headache. But in order to return home after the story line was completed, he still braced himself for it—–

“Are you Ruan Jiangjiu,” He blocked the handsome young man who was a head taller than himself in an alley and threw a card in front of him: “You’re broke ba—-” Lu Bai grit his teeth and just spat out the words: “As long as you…. this one million is yours!”

Ruan Jiangjiu looked at the person with a reddened face trying hard to appear strong in front of him. The youth looked like a fierce angry kitten. A dangerous smile filled with intrigue formed on Ruan Jiangjiu’s face.

—-

The film emperor Qu Xueyu took on a somewhat special role: A poor student with a warped mentality that eventually blackened. So, in order to take on this role, he disguised himself as Ruan Jiangjiu and went to work a part time job to experience the character’s life.

The only thing he never expected was that the little dandy that always followed his childhood friend, Qin Gu’s, back would provoke himself in that kind of way. He also didn’t expect to be moved by his provocation and become addicted to the other party.

Lu Bai said bitterly: Xiao Ruan, as long as you can anger that Qu Xueyu you can ask Laozi to give you any resource you want. Laozi will even buy your way to become film emperor. Someone more amazing than Qu Xueyu!

A Breath of Fresh Air: MC and ML are equally in love and equally as invested in their relationship and each other. The plot doesn't slack either!

It's been a while since I wrote a review, but I whole heartedly recommend this to any danmei lovers out there and especially to the more jaded readers among us. This is what romance should be! Both the ML *AND* the MC communicating and being interested in being with each other!

The MC was a cannon fodder villain with a powerful family background, when he was a child, he tried to ignore the plot but was then punished severely, after that he follows the script properly afraid of the pain that he suffers, during this time he met the ML (protagonist shou in the novel) after meeting him, he noticed that the plot is ok and he doesn't suffers from pain, he falls in love with the ml, everyone knows him a a stubborn and s*upid second generation kid, but the ML notices that he was just a cute boy with something to fear, he silently stay by his side until it was no longer painful for the MC, plot twist (he was reincarnated multiple times) he tried very hard to save both the MC and his family (the ML died and his family all died in a fire) every reincarnation he falls in love with MC... he lost his memory but still loves him as he is.. they live happily ever after

Everything else about this novel is so good to me because I really enjoy their dynamic. The shameless flirting and the unapologetic infatuation w/ each other, the MC is pretty active in reciprocating w/ the ML, no one is overly domineering towards one another - mwuah chefs kiss.

I really like 'og shou transform into the gong' novels so I knew I'd be into this story - the only thing is I wish we had more closure to the og gong and the antagonist yang or some extras... They really weren't... more>> explored nor explained, even when they're integral part of the story to answering questions/resolutions.... it's a little... heh....'only here when you need me' situation.. not in a nice way.. they were exploited but lets be real they could've been more.. they could've been better written.. but anyways

Refraining from rating this novel, because I would've given this a 5* for sure, if it wasn't for the ending. I'm really really unreconciled with the ending -- so this entire thing happened because of this? and there's no consequences for anything? no repercussion? nothing more about the second antagonists (and the main 'god' 'rule' 'system' of the world) that popped up? Besides how there's always a sense of unbelievable-ness to the entire story anyways, this part is where I want to actually fight.

Imagine building up for the entire novel and the resolution is done very shabby in literally the last chapter with a talking dog lol.... it's not even pulled this out of my ass, I could still take the reason, but everything else concerning that conversation where the reason was explained is just done so bad. Rate in terms of conversation would've been a 2/10... it was that bad

I would've given this a 3* -- but I did enjoy literally 50 chapters of the novel, and only the last 2 chapters that actually gave me resolution was so unsatisfactory and disappointing that I dont even want to vote. I'm just mad!!! I'm really really so !??! that the world building is there, but its done very shoddy and it's like a dilapidated hut -- halfway built but not enough to keep the rain out. I'm just so!!!! Give me more!!! Do something!!! Fix the leaks!!!!! <<less

tears. sobbing. crying a puddle on the floor.

i had no clue what I was getting into.

the first part I found to be a nice, enjoyable fluffyish romance between the MC and ML with piece of sh*t side characters.

and then the plot twist happened and let me just tell you, it had me crying so damn bad.

i found the first part of the novel to be almost unbelievable due to the MC's overall naiveness (?)... but there's a reason for this childishness and dear lord was I shocked...

i really liked the relationship between the MC and ML. I loved the comfort they found with each other. I also really like MC's family, who includes a loving stepmom and adorable stepsister, as well as the MC's mom (MC's dad's exwife) still having a good relationship with the family! healthy family dynamics I must say!

Very cute story 💕

You may think that MC is silly, but irl, that is bcoz he's very afraid to be ooc due to pstd. The ML is also not forceful and not annoying. This is a very good novel, I just don't know why it seems it lacks charm.

There should be a tag "multiple transmigration" since it is not only the MC who went to another world due to accident. Probably, this novel lacks foreshadowing about the other transmigrator, and it only appeared near the end

There are depressing moments and... more>> many twists near the ending. <<less

i thought it will be a happy story, but author proved me wrong especially near the end of this novel.

lol, did the author has a grudges against their MC? Lu Bai is so pitiful. saved a dog but that said dog was the one who make his life a disaster because that s*upid dog aka "world order" or smth, mistakenly took another person as his savior, briliant.

it was alright if that dog just make a little misfortune, but to make the MC and his family and ML suffer for atleast seven lifetimes is something else lol, not logical, how tf a "world order" can mistaken his own savior, that dog didnt have a single qualification to be a "world order" he is simply a fu*king dog.

Glad the MC has a strong phscology, if I be the MC, atleast I would throw the bell with bite marks in front of that s*upid dog world order and tell him, 'i dont need this misfortune thing' that dog can go cry and taste guilt all his life. Not like the MC who accept the bell and then goes "abu (the f dog name), goodbye."

Bfr like bro, just curse that damn dog. How can you simply said that, I bet in your heart you want to kill that damned dog

Sorry if anyone reading this feels uncomfortable, but I really cant contain my dissatisfaction toward the ending.

I wanna see that Qin and Xiao Yang btch and the damn dog suffer not just feeling guilty and bullshit, but the author just end the story right when the MC feels like "i let go of everything before and live happily with my family and lover" which is im okay with, but still... there is this uncomfortable feelings.

Wow. I am speechless. At first glance just your average fluff with comedic undertone but once you dig deeper
Spoiler

and especially at the second half of the story you get something completely unexpected. It’s like the author flipped the side of a coin. The twist still made sense even though you didn’t really expect it after reading so much fluff between ML and MC. This turn of events really caught me by surprise. What a great twist. What a unique novel.

There’s no point to most of the angst in the novel and the MC acts out the plot like a puppet for a lot of it. ML has the mystical instant love for MC and there’s tons of other BS. Really not worth the time reading it. -900Hextillion/10.

What an interesting story! It's got so many intersecting threads that I think the author fits quite well together in the end. It does get a bit confusing at the end, but I think everything resolves itself pretty neatly. I absolutely love the final little twist the author adds at the end - it really helps explain why the MC is chosen and the almost confusingly warm family.

I guess the one thing about the story is that since it's so plot-based, there aren't that many deep morals in the story.... more>> Just sit back, enjoy the romance and the plot twists, any don't think too deeply. Perhaps once lesson is to not prejudge people or only believe in a one sided story? There's always two sides to a story, sometimes both sides are legitimate, and sometimes one side is a well-spun yarn. But unless you thoroughly investigate, don't make any inflexible judgements and definitely don't harm someone on the basis of a partially analyzed "truth".

I wish the extras the author kept promising actually emerged - I felt like it was such an intriguing side couple. <<less

Good novel, but the author really needs to stop with the spoiler-y author notes because not only were they confusing and unnecessary, they also took me out of the immersion of the novel and added unnecessary plot points before there was any reasonable explanation for them. My advice for anyone reading this for the first time is to skip over all the author notes and just read the text itself, as I really wish that's what I had done.

Another side note is that ML is referred to as both his... more>> alter ego name and his real name interchangeably for much of the first half, and I do wish that the author just referred to him only by his real name Qu Xueyu instead. Had to keep switching my brain around, which I suppose is what the MC was doing so it's not the worst stylistic choice, but I got annoyed. Anyways, onto the story itself.

MC confused me a bit with his characterization, as he's super innocent and naive at the start and blushes whenever he sees ML, but when they get together he's confident and straightforward, basically propositioning s*x all the time with not a blush in sight. Since he doesn't really revert back to his innocent self, you could call it character growth, but it does come out of nowhere. Another slightly inconsistent character setting:
Spoiler

MC is somewhat violent toward the villain characters and threatens them with broken bottles and physical harm, so I don't know how innocent I would really call him? The only time he acts naive and cute is around ML when he's still trying to the plot script.

[collapse]

ML is a movie emperor and basically the most beautiful person to walk this earth, and his character is pretty one-dimensional so I really don't have much to say on him. I wouldn't read this for any amazing plot or relationship development, but the fluff is top tier and the main couple is very sweet together. Overall it's a pretty straightforward fluff story that I enjoyed reading since my expectations weren't too high to begin with. Also I do love the plot point of having ML be a novel's original protagonist shou, which is the main reason I picked this one up to begin with.

On the ending:

Spoiler

The plot twist did explain much of the character inconsistencies like the love at first sight and the almost ridiculous ability of MC to think ML was not his alter ego, but I was so confused for so many chapters due to the unnecessary author notes. Not going to explain the plot twist, just that it was not what I expected and it was quite interesting to look back on the plot afterwards.

I don't know why people hate spoiled and naive protagonists so much. Not everything needs to be like real life, sometimes we look for readings of this type simply to enjoy something sweet and a protagonist without many thoughts. I find it refreshing after enduring more than 100 chapters with cold protagonists, with questionable morals, couples who only get together after 100 chapters and more. In the end, there's an MC and story for everything you like, but I'm happy to find some like that, even if it's a difficult... more>> search with low grades.

About the story, it's a sweet romance, MC becomes active and not at all modest when she realizes her feelings, which I really liked. It was really silly how he can't realize that ML is dear to him from the beginning, but I lovingly pat him on the head for that. Both were possessive at some point in the story, but it was under control.

ML is very good too, always attentive to the issue of consent in relation to MC. The author seemed to complicate the plot a little towards the end, or maybe he already knew what was going to be done, but I don't know if it was executed well. Or necessary. It's a quick read to pass the time before reading something more complex. <<less

The MC was supposed to be the protagonist of the novel, but became the villain because of a mistake. The novel was written by his mother in the original world. True villains:

Spoiler

Abu: The order of the novel. He appears as a white puppy. He came to the original world to pick up the MC, but had an accident and was saved by the MC. He mistook another person for the MC and wanted that person to be the protagonist of the novel. There could only be one protagonist, so he tried to kill the protagonist. He forced the MC to act like a villain by punishing him and making him believe that he can go home after dying in the end. The MC was never killed, because he was loved by the world, but his family and lover were killed. He has restarted his life multiple times to save them, but he only regains his memory of the former attempts after his lover dies. The MC finally manages to save them, but then Abu appears in person and tries to kill him again. Abu ends up finding out the truth and kills the other person before disappearing as punishment for interfering.

Bai Mingyuan: The fake protagonist. He went to the same university as the MC and had a crush on him. He died on the same day and was mistaken for the MC, because he had stolen his belongings. He wanted to live more than he liked the MC, so pretended to be the one who saved Abu and begged to be the protagonist. He and Abu had woven many plots to kill the MC, but never succeeded. He was not supposed to appear before killing the MC, but got impatient towards the end and ordered Abu to approach the MC and kill him. He was killed after Anu found out the truth.

MTL'd and it was good enough.

Uhh I know everyone else seems to have read till the end but I don't think I could hold on any longer. I really was just intrigued with the og-shou-turned-bottom trope, and now that MC and ML have had their relationship established I figured that was my queue to leave lol.

Had a great time reading this, made me laugh and giggle a couple of times! I love the family dynamics, and the misunderstandings! Although I wish the author had a more comprehensive approach to the side characters as they tend to come and go for the plot, it was fine bc some novels are like that. Plot: ML pretending to be some one else, MC doesn't realize it and thinks he is "raising" a look alike for the sake of the original plot;

Pro: funny, sweet, nice ML that respects consent and personal boundaries (except for hiding his real identity but that's not entirely his fault so I'll let it slide)

Cons: the MC was a bit too child-like and unbelievably blind (i mean even Superman at least puts on a pair of glasses for his secret identity, the ML in this just wears a different style... more>> of clothes...) Misunderstanding goes on too long <<less

I cried when it ended.. Huhuhu

There were a lot of plotlines that were not thoroughly discussed but I'm not mad about it.

It's like life.. You don't really have to know everything.. But every single one of those plotlines could be happy or sad or devastating.. And this was Xiao Bai's story so we really didn't have to focus on other lives to follow. It's enough that Xiao Bai got his happy ending.. That is all that matters..

This is really well written and translated! I personally love the spoiled protagonist trope and this book does that so well! The plot is very thought out which makes the character dynamics all the better. The plot is straightforward while maintaining an air of mystery. Like the plot twists aren’t too convoluted and you can tell there’s an end game in mind, which is something not many novels of this genre can achieve.
