It was Yan Zhaoge’s first time transmigrated into another world. He landed in a martial warrior civilization that was at the peak of prosperity. He ended up in the Divine Palace’s library, which collected and preserved the classics of the entire world from all fields of knowledge. However, a world-class calamity struck soon after, and even the Divine Palace was destroyed.

Yan Zhaoge’s soul once again transmigrated into another world. The twist was he arrived in the same world, except countless years have passed.

With his brain full of rare books and classics from the era of peak prosperity, Yan Zhaoge’s second transmigration to the present era was like a gamer who was used to playing hell mode suddenly finding himself playing the game on easy mode.

That was just way too awesome.

But before that, he would need to fix a problem.

“I’m not the main character? In fact, I’m actually the main character’s love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior brother? This script is wrong!”

I would consider this a great novel all the way up until Yan Zhaoge leaves the mortal world. SPOILERS AHEAD, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:

For the first chunk of the book, he focuses on defeating the cliche xianxia protagonists. It’s quite funny, and a decent deconstruction of several tropes (if you ignore the fact that MC is also a cliche protagonist through transmigration).

The next portion follows MC playing on a higher level. The cliche protagonists play a much smaller role as MC focuses on the world situation and inter-Sect politics. I... more>> really enjoyed this part, as the vast majority of cultivation novels have this as a background setting if it’s used at all. The political scheming, searching fo spies and traitors, negotiating with big shots, and generally doing things that a sect’s successor would actually have to learn to be successful, are all very interesting and entertaining in my opinion. Unfortunately the novel starts to drift a little bit into cliche “underestimated MC beats up “powerful” opponents regularly” territory, but it’s forgivable since action isn’t the main point during this part.

Then the MC defeats the Sacred Sun Sect, takes their sacred relic, and then goes to some other worlds, doing some bland side quest stuff and looking for his mom. It’s alright, but definitely loses the charm of the parody part and the intrigue of the politics part. Eventually, he makes his way to the taoism world (the genericbig world above all the little ones). This, in my opinion, is where the story really falls apart. No political intrigue, no parodying cliche protagonists, no development of a sect, just typical “MC kills a bunch of bad guys who are super powerful, runs away and hides behind a more powerful guy, kills more powerful people, BLAH BLAH BLAH.” It had some interesting mystery and worldbuilding with the various lineages and the whole Taoism vs Buddhism thing and Yan Zhaoge’s mom, but overall it was just one “underestimated MC kills arrogant opponent easily” after another, with a few “MC gets into more trouble than he can handle and runs to hide behind a more powerful expert” thrown in.

Overall, started out great (4.5 stars for the story in the Eight Extremities World) and slowly declined until it became a boring an cliched xianxia with nothing new to offer (3 stars, just for the quality of writing/translation and the little bit of interesting mystery). <<less

Had high expectations for this novel but the novel seemed mediocre the more I read. It started off as a parody but the author pivoted somewhere down the line to turn it into a typical cultivation novel (which is fine imo). My gripe with the novel is that it has a lot of repetitive infodump that is more excessive than MW, slow pace, and jumpy flows that made my reading experience worse.

Huh. Somehow lost all interest within 6 chaps. It 'tries' to distinguish itself from common plotlines, but still gets right in with the MC flexing/faceslapping and an audience gasping - basic boring cliche stuff. The writing is extremely low quality, maybe because author or translator are still inexperienced. Perhaps it gets better, but I can't seem to force myself to keep reading.

Started with some comedy but became the most generic light novel I have ever read. Perfect main character who knows almost every martial art, every alchemic art, forgery art, formation art ecc... he never has struggles, he learns everything and he is the most lucky; he never shows real anger, sadness, deep frustration, regrets or whatever... he is just plain.

Enemies are bland, cultivation is meh. There's nothing about Dao, techniques are just names over other names. You can literally take him out of chapter one, raise him to the last... more>> realm and ave the same character with nothing new to show. BORING! <<less

I'll start with the good:

The romance is pretty cool, its believable, and at the point I stopped reading there was no harem. I'm personally not against harems, but they are even harder to do well. Here the love interest has an interesting personality and doesn't feel like a copy pasta from somewhere else, and also the love interest does not cannibalize the story, it is just a small part of it.

Some enemies early in the novel are very interesting, you got one opponent who was meant to be the hero... more>> of his own story, a weak man who finds a treasure and goes on to do great things, but because the MC was resurrected and influenced the flow of things his opponent ended up taking the wrong path and becoming a villain. Another enemy was also supposed to be the hero of his time, but instead of finding a treasure like the first opponent, or having been resurrected from the past like our MC, he actually regressed from the future, so it was a battle of someone with future knowledge fighting against someone with historical knowledge, it was quite interesting. However aside from these two the rest of the enemies are generic. --
Now for the bad:

Its overrated, it was mostly a boring read with few exceptions. I read up to chapter 1000 and not once was the MC in any danger. I get that MC in this genre are usually op, but you'd expect them to at least feel a little pressure here and there, get chased by an enemy senior, maybe get wounded, just barely making it and then coming back stronger, but not here, the MC here always has a confident smile on his face regardless of the situation, I don't even think he ever gets a scratch.

Most of the chapter is fluff, like someone else mentioned, its mostly people praising the MC and unnecessary exposition. You can sometimes go multiple chapters with the only dialogue being the MC talking to himself. Someone can start a conversation and then you get a ton of paragraphs of redundant or empty descriptions and analysis before someone replies to the conversation. Same thing happens in fights, everything just feels like it is dragggggged out.

The translation is also lack luster, it does one thing that really bothers me, and that is the lack of consistency, names and titles are spelled like 10 different way using different words that essentially mean the same thing, or using the same words in a different order. It's a minor thing for most people, but really bugs me, it confuses me when I'm reading and the same treasure is referred to by 5 different names and 10 different spellings in the same chapter. A little editing goes a long way. <<less

Holy sh*t these authors are lazy. I was hyped for this novel but author did a good job of destroying the hype. Just a mention of his past two lifes really? Not even a chapter dedicated to how he entered the divine palace etc? Ur gonna write 1000+ chapters or whatever but cant dedicate a single chapter to how he got op? F*cking really?? Im already used to chinese authors not dedicating a bit of story to the life on earth of the MCs that trasnmigrated, but this is a... more>> whole new level <<less

-Dropped at 773-

At the start the novel was going to a different & in my opinion a better storyline...

The MC able to see or feel Destiny (basically if someone has a good destiny he will be lucky & will find more opertunities & legendary weapons & techniques.. basically better Destiny turn u into a MC of ur own novel...) and early on he met 2 ppl with big destiny (a talented guy who found a ring with the soul of a powerful entity inside & its op cultivation skill and... more>> a guy who managed to get back in time & he tried to empower his father & then gain enough power so the 2 can control the world) when the MC about to kill them Destiny or the world power of the Fate power would wrap around them like a "plot armor" & try to prevent their death but our MC has a way to disperse it...

But after those 2 guys, the novel turn into your usual novel with OP MC with OP cultivation & treasures & weapons moving around the world & then worlds & then the galaxy & b*tch-slapping everyone with his OP-ness...

Novel could have gone to different & unique storyline but author decided to turn it into ur usual chinese novel...

Also the MC father would have made a better MC since he was a genius who created his own cultivation technique & battle skills & he can fight people 2 to 3 level above him with ease... unlike the MC who keep "finding" OP technique & OP weapons with zero effort... <<less

It's good, but the biggest problem with this novel is that it has a lot of useless information. This makes it really boring to read at times. It will go on a tangent or just give you 2 full paragraphs worth of information on mundane or useless stuff. Also as you further progress in this novel, it's clear the author is trying to glorify china's cultural revolution and integrate his political views into the story which makes it super cringy. Good writing and translation early on, but falls off near... more>> the mid point. <<less

I am extremely disappointed.

I just finished History's Number 1 Founder, and I thought this story would be similar, or at least unique and good.

This is just a generic Xuanhuan.

... more>> The MC, who is in the villain's body is exactly like a Xuanhuan Hero MC.

As for the supposed "Heroes" that the MC encounters (Which apparently are only relevant in the first 400 chapters) :

  • They have divine luck like a typical Xuanhuan villain does;
  • They have an irrational hatred for the MC, like a typical Xuanhuan villain has;
  • They are s*upidly unreasonable, like a typical Xuanhuan villain;
  • They deserve to die, like a typical Xuanhuan villain;
  • And the MC happily kills them, delivering divine justice, as in a typical Xuanhuan novel.
The problem is... Even if it's a reasonably good/easy-to-read novel, It is not a good satire of a Xuanhuan novel or a good Xuanhuan novel.

In the end it's just that, a a reasonably good/easy-to-read novel. <<less

Very good novel. Although when it comes to this particular genre it is really hard getting through thousands of chapters of a novel where a lot of things are censored & the author is treated like f*cking fodder (by fans & labels). Forced to write a ridiculously long novel, most of these guys constantly need surgery from literally sitting on their ass too much. Can it hurt to get these writers some decent benefits? The first 500 chapters were written exceptionally well. Then it turns into a typical wuxia.

I expected this novel to be parody of other Chinese novels, and it was, for about 100 chapters or so. After that it became another xuanhuan Chinese novel filled with sect wars, family mystery or usual stories about threat from other world that MC has to stop, your typical Chinese novel full or cultivation and martial arts.

MC had good personality at first and now he's become typical arrogant MC who unreasonably kills people without betting an eye. Half of his problems will be solved if he just become less arrogant.... more>> Well at least he doesn't have reckless personality like that dickhead in Against the Gods.

I have nothing else to read that's why I'm still reading it. If you like Emperor's domination or I Shall seal the Heavens then you may like this novel. Ignore description. This is not parody.

Update:- Wow! Such arrogance. Now he is acting without thinking of consequences like Yun che. (sorry of my English, still learning it) <<less

I really don't see why this has a high rating. It is really run of a mil Wuxia novel. It does absolutely nothing different with the usual transmigration op MC type of novel. The transmigration angle is just an excuse for the MC to be op, which is fine, but other author doesn't do anything else with it except some minor story arc with another potential transmigrator. There is no unique take on it, no funny interactions between people from different world/times, it literally seems that besides cultivation regression, that... more>> society has stayed the same.

Nor is the cultivation angle unique either. Other series try to link a certain path of cultivation for the MC to his personality or circumstances, basically what personal cultivation by definition should be. Personal, unique to the main character that has strength and weaknesses. Instead the MC literally chooses the best cultivation path that literally stomps on everybody b/c he read about it in his prior life.

I also have an issue with his personality. He is the cool, calm, collected protagonist. The author tries to make a joke about in some of the interactions with other characters with the MC saying he trying to be "lowkey, " but other than that he is a blank state of heroic characteristics of any other wuxia male hero.

Also the fight scenes are really really average. It is literally the author describing some odd, world bending technique that "bends the heavens" or something else until their is another technique that just doesn't bend the heavens, but creates its own heaven or some other nonsense that crushes that technique. It is just random hyperbole after random hyperbole.

I really think that this has a high rating b/c it does nothing really bad or egregious compared to other average Wuxia novels. <<less

I can’t, in good conscience, give this novel more than 3 stars, it starts out pretty good but by chapter 290 I’ve had it put on hold 3 or 4 times to pick up after some months and multiple times considered dropping it entirely.

The novel seems to live off constantly throwing things at the MC and/or his sect. Their allies are completely and utterly useless and their enemies have no brains with seemingly only the goal of destroying them even at the cost of their own lives.

The only actions their... more>> allies ever takes is because of the MC and any large plans their enemies make just so happens to take place right up the MC’s ass.

I actually like the story and the MC but with this stale world that revolves around the MC I can’t ever think of the novel as anything but average.

If the author had brought some life to the novel with the other major and minor powers actually doing something without the MC’s direct interference then I’d easily give it 4.5 or even 5 stars. <<less

It's pretty nice novel and a creative plot. The best thing is the MC debends more on his schemes rather than power and gives the reader the the feeling the he has everything in his grasp. Not like other MCs when they have to risk every thing to win the battle, actually until now there hasn't been a time when the MC is badly injured or needs the help of someone els that is why I like it. Also the MC isn't the centre of attention and is the one... more>> that his clan always has to depend on him or his love interest always seeks his help, on the contrary his love interest is actuall very reliable an experienced and his father is also a dominant geniuse. The only mistake in this novel is that it's somewhat devoid of romance. <<less

great start, lots of potential but ultimately fails to deliver. Great faction building, good humour at the beginning but after the first arc, (100 chapters) its all the same pattern over and over again with also sucks in world building. Just read first 100 chapters and drop it.

The story is very interesting and refreshing.... at first. Our protagonist is resourceful and cunning and uses both his intelligent and strength to defeat other could-have-been-protagonists and evil villains. He knows when to retreat and seek reinforcement for opponents that are stronger than him. However, as the story progresses, it becomes more and more like your typical Xianxia novels in which the MC can simply crush his opponents (regardless of level gap) to death because of his cheat code/super power/plot armor. While it is a bit sad for the story... more>> to turn out like this, it is still entertaining and interesting enough to keep on reading. <<less

Everyones criticizing how the author derailed from the original premise of him vs the various cliche MC templates e.g MC that has a second chance to relive his life/ country bumpkin that has a fortuitous encounter/ Old Expert thats reborn into a useless noble etc. But you forget that those MC cliche templates are already the most popular and common, like, how long do you expect the story to keep continuing like that, he already did a ridiculously good job integrating those MC cliches seamlessly into the story without making... more>> it too parody like and making the readers unable to take things seriously, , it was the correct decision to use that momentum and continue trying to make the story abit more serious and diverge from the original premise because the ideas going down that road are bound to run dry. Wether or not he actually did a good job steering away from all that a establishing a more serious and traditional wuxia style, that remains to be seen. <<less

From the author of History #1 founder.

This novel doesnt have any specific goal in all the arc. The story passed by just like wind...

no impression last in ur mind after read it.

Spoiler

If u ever read HN1F then u might guess already that the plot including alot of trolls and twists. Here some of it:

  1. MC (YZ) is the antagonist in the beginning. the usual silkpant young master that steal someone gf with his authority/power. the boyfriend is the protagonist. The arc end with the protagonist met with alot of misfortunes and lost his mind, end up killed by YZ.
  2. YZ meet alot of characters that either reincarnations or have MC halo with the usual grandpa plot armor. Too bad, they meet YZ who hv a super plotarmor.
  3. some of the plot hv a similarity with HN1F since its the same author. like the panda pet...
  4. many more that u better read urself, if u like all the points above.
[collapse]

not recommended if u seek for novel with tensions. but still good enough to read in your spare time.

One of the few novels I still read and enjoy even after so many chapters. The storyline progress quit nicely. Every once in a while a chapter or two is a boring but it does progress the story so not much to compliant about. The action is quite nice to when it happens. MC personality is one of the main reason I like it so much. His character isn't inconsistent nor is he overly arrogant or extremely nice. To put it some he's nice if you don't poke the beast... more>> but willing to kill if you do poke the beast.

Update: So the story is still interesting but having read up to 800, it's starting to become a chore to read certain chapter because it basically just an informational chapter and some of the information isn't even important and or just describing something that can be forgotten the next chapter. If the story was to cuts back on this useless information dump chapter I would still give it a 5 but for now it's reduce to a 4 because of the chore like reading or certain chapters. <<less
