When it's great, it's the best sci-fi novel you can find around. When it's bad, you feel like drinking a 2 liter bottle of coffee just to stay awake. To say that this novel doesn't have flaws is impossible, especially since the protagonist feels like a machine that is always on time about everything. His backstory, sigh, is so full of sh*t that I almost dropped it. For some reason he was saved by someone who was an extremely important figure from an unknown planet and was also taught some... more>> extremely powerful martial art that allows him to become a hunter, a special profession that is the offspring of an adventurer and an assassin. Because of this even though he had a weak genetic value, an F, when the worst is G, he was capable of dealing even with those of D rank... Isn't this full of shit? Oh yeah, it is. Later on he is kidnapped by some mysterious old man that puts him through an experiment that changes the genetic code of our protagonist to some deux ex machina, literally. Of course, the experiment is dangerous and many died, but the protagonist could induce some coma so that he could deal with the pain. (In every novel, for some reason as long as the character can deal with the pain it doesn't matter that the brain still receives information and can fry even though the character is in a coma, or that the body is still dealing with the same sh*t no matter how much the psyche can endure) No, as long as the protagonist knows some special breathing technique he will survive and obtain greater power by sheer will... "If you wish it hard enough you get it" kind of logic. Oh yeah, he also had a girlfriend, no, there is no value to this information, but the author put it anyway.

Going on, the protagonist is recruited by someone from an extremely strong hunter group the first time he left the planet by coincidence. Yeeeahh, coincidence. To this point we get a shitload of coincidences. Now, do you think they end here? Absolutely f*cking not. But I presented enough of them.

Then again, the story also has a lot of good things, especially the side characters which have very intriguing personalities. The action, when it actually exists, is absolutely awesome and follows the fulfillment formula where the protagonist is always the most special out of everyone by far, no matter how high the differences are between him and the rest. At some point he

deals with a planet with about 200k criminals by himself

. Even so, it is interesting, a good read in other words... if it wasn't for the breaks between arcs. Each break has such a low quality that you barely stay awake reading them. At this point I lost all interest and I will wait to find out about the way it ends before continuing reading the story. If it doesn't end in a cheesy way, I don't care if everyone stays alive, I will read it. But if the power of love, or some never seen coincidence occurs, then I will drop it completely forever.

Conclusion? Read it, I sincerely urge you to read it. In the sea of blatant excuses of a plot, this novel shines like a gem. The author wasn't capable of making the prologue before each arc more interesting which dropped the quality of his story.

Going from maximum 5, the high number of coincidences - 1, the boring parts that are about 10 to 15 chapters long -1 equals 3 STARS for this novel. Good luck reading it. <<less

I want to give this a 4, but after reading this far I am finding that the chapters are becoming increasingly laced with filler. There are only 450 chapters. Why then, author, are you wasting so many words on reactions, predictions, worthless descriptions of things that do not need to be described or worthless explanations of the most self explanatory things. I don't care what this minor side character and his whole group of friends thinks about the small consequence tournament match the MC just won. Move on with the... more>> story already! Entire half chapters are wasted on this, and I am finding myself skimming more as the chapter count increases. <<less

When I first picked up this novel I thought "this has potential, I want to see where it goes." Well, it went over the top... in an unbelievable but humorous way.

The MC can do anything with no effort, and do it better then anyone else. No back story or explanation necessary; he is just that awesome I guess.

We get an unnecessary school arc that makes no sense at all because of plot armor... or to let us bask in the MC's aura of awesomeness.

Despite being somewhat trite I actually enjoy... more>> reading the next absurd thing the MC will do. <<less

As expected of Lazy Clique!

I've read 3 novels written by this author already. Including Star Rank Hunter (SRH), the other two are Superstars of Tomorrow (SoT) , and Chronicles of Primordial Wars (CoPW) .

FOR THOSE THAT REALLY LOVE AN MC LIKE CILIN. The only thing I can say is: you should READ THOSE TWO NOVELS I mentioned above. It's better.

... more>> I dont know the right way to say it, but this author got the style that really fits my taste in fantasy stories!

Straightforward story

  • This Author is very direct in introducing the story's main problem or goal (the finish line). Then, he will answer that problem -- "by the way" -- as the MC solves the last minor arc. Elaborately, this Author's writing style always answers -- at the end of his/her novel -- why his/her minor arcs were the way they were. Resulting in a very full filling ending, as if you've eaten a whole cookie -- baked by yours truly, Lazy Clique -- though not able to eat more, you're eating any less.
No romance

  • Not exactly related in romance but I'll still put it here... Though, what I'm about to mention was not really expressed in SRH. It was, in author's other works -- SoT and CoPW.
  • I love how this Author can make it so female (side) characters in a story don't exist just to be a potential love interest to a male character -- whether it is the MC himself or to the male side characters connected to the MC -- in a story. Which seems to be a trend, in almost all possible genres. :)
Cool-OP-but-lowkey MC!

  • We know that Cool and OP MC is clique, but dang! Adding to that the lowkey (or atleast they're trying to do so) characteristic is just too attractive to bear!
  • This author's MCs always favor to do things in a lowkey manner, but there's just those times that some things MC does can't be ignored. Though, MC would still try to be lowkey in the end. Like immediately getting out of public's 'view', for a time -- just right after MC made a ruckus. This makes it so MC's feat would only be known to some, and may even fade away from their audience's memories faster than it should've if another character is in his shoes.
Pets (Wheeze!) and brotherhood

  • Though this author's type of MC doesn't usually initiate contact, they're still very good in socializing or dealing with relationships/people, thus they have really good relationship with the characters.
Leader MC

  • All three of Lazy Cliques MC in SRH, SoT, and CoPW all have characteristics to lead!+99999 style points!
  • This is 'cuz MC usually has good adaptability, thus he can always maintain a cool head or his calm no matter what he faces.
The Cliques

  • Just reading the author's name and you'll know that they are especially fond of writing cliques. However, using clique is just a technique on writing, on its own. It's up to the author to write the story. Personally, my requirements for a good story is if it's immersive and capable evoking emotions. And it did (its just a bit lacking in evoking emotion)
  • In the end, it all boils down to our preference to know if this is a good story. So give it a try! (And if SRH does not satisfy you, there's still SoT and CoPW. They're even better than SRH. Really. Since SoT is basically Lazy Clique's oldest work. Experiences gives improvement!)
There are other things that I can't explain clearly like:

  • The description of everything, like when music evokes certain emotions to the reader. (Example is that one time in SRH Chapter 357 - The Music That Summons The Devil In The Heart, "Rhapsody of a Rainy Night). This description style mostly appeared in SoT, and boy did those descriptions never fail to give me goosebumps.
  • P.S. Fang Zhao that legendary composer! I love his character design!!! "His every move and tone, bringing a hint of musicality~". LIKE WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?! It's such an elegant characteristic to someone already bathed in seas of blood, be it from monsters or his fellow race. Cilin, Fang Zhao, Shao Xuan! Such ideal MCs! OTL

I enjoyed it at first when he acquired his cheat, tolerated it at the school arc, barely held on on squad arc. Everything came crashing after he travelled to the other galaxy. He suddenly lost his demeanor and started acting immature and dumb for no reason.... more>>
Spoiler

While being recruited by his master into black viper, he acted all moronic and stuff. One time he was wondering why his teacher would associate himself with a group that's viewed so negatively like it's the most impossible thing. It's like he's a child who only knows black and white.

[collapse]

That makes you wonder what happened to the skills he used to defeat that psycho swordsman. It's like they disappeared into thin air and returned to a middle schooler thinking. And now he can barely fare against disciples of his master.

What I dissagree with isn't that he lost his skills, it's that he lost his cool and started acting wantonly like a dumb teenager yet knowing he might be assasinated anytime.

There's also a filler issue. Way too many inconsequential fillers that rarely have any substance to them. At most a name of a creature or organization at the end of it. It just hurts to read it. <<less

What a massive disappointment.

I read the novel Chronicles of Primordial Wars from the same author and enjoyed it thoroughly. I also like Skyfire Avenue, with a similar interplanetary sci-fi setting. So I really wanted to like this one. I really did.

Initial premise seemed promising. MC struggling to survive in a backwater dump, whilst making himself stronger gradually and eventually after becoming strong enough embarking on a grand quest to find the legacy of his late master. Thats what I hoped for anyway after reading chapter 1. Nah, screw that, stumble... more>> onto a massive and instantaenous powerup in chapter 3, like the entire premise is a bad joke.

Well alright then, maybe the grand quest I hoped for would start sooner. Nope, the feeling I got was more like a leaf being blown in the wind and going wherever the current takes him.

If that was all, I could actually power through this novel and keep reading, because I enjoy the universe the author has setup well enough.

But the biggest gripe with this that I have is the MC. I didn't think that he was human at all, theres no emotions, no feeling, its just like reading an android going about their business. That feeling is strengthened even more with the fact that the MC is just too good at LITERALLY everything. Theres no sense of tension because the MC doesn't seem to ever struggle with anything. He also doesn't want to talk for whatever reason, in the first 10 chapters, I counted about 15 lines of dialogue, with most being introductions and some generic answers, added with a few ramblings to himself. This MC doesn't have anything that interests me going on.

TL;DR

Promising setting, completely betrayed in the first chapters. MC is a Mary Sue, with a personality more bland than Data from Star Trek.

Not recommended. <<less

I quiet liked it. I managed to read it to the most current translated chapter in just 3 days. What others said regarding how everything always develops in the direction the MC is indeed true. It's also true that the setting and power scaling are a little problematic but I managed to get through them.

I liked the pacing of the story and how the plot didn't stop one bit. Every arc is very entertaining -even though the chapters are very long- and I must say that although there are some... more>> problems, the story is well-written in my opinion. I am a sucker for OP characters so I liked the MC and the interactions between the characters are very entertaining.

I can say indeed that the story has some minor problems that might turn others off but I still suggest you try reading it. What do you know, maybe you'll like the story. If not, then the only thing you'll lose is some time.

Although I dislike writing novel's early on but this one was truly pathetic and deserves even more one star reviews, Firstly the setting in the story at first seemed to be about space, but this isn't important now as nothing matter's after the author self inserts himself as a Mary sue, a dislike that is always a false premise for the failure of the author's life, secondly the way that the characters act are influenced by the same thing that ruins a story called friendship, now im not saying that... more>> friendship is bad, but in this novel it's incredibly unrealistic and it's only worse from that since there are people that could actually like a one dimensional character, and lastly this is only liked by people that want to be the senter of attention instead of an introvert because they can't have friends and choose to live a fantasy in their rooms, Mary sue's are the embodiment of an author's failure at life and many other's too. <<less

It's a good read specially for those who likes animals haha! ^^V

Regarding the story elements, I don't think there's wasted once here. All people have their roles even small things have their roles too O.o and everything is somehow connected.

disadvantages hmm.. I cant remember one haha maybe MC became too OP but I like OPness so dont care xD maybe some parts were sleepy too read but skim those and its good. Hahaha

... more>> PS: not proffesional reviewer but just wanna share the goodness of this one.

PS #2: pls read till end I believe its a good one not rushed like others haha <<less

This is one of the most amusing and greatest sci-fi/action novel I've ever read!

The 'world', or the stting of the story, is unique. It's refreshing to read, and the action moments are detailed and fun.

The main character, Cillin, has a great temperament and very wise. And even in my perspective as a reader, he is very mysterious.

... more>> His cyborg cat, Whebeze, is very eye-catching and I like its arrogant attitude. It's interaction with Cillin is very amusing and funnt, especially the remarks and retorts.

I'm waiting for some romance in the story. And I'm a bit curious about Linglun's (not sure if I got the name right, XD) backgrounds and hidden intent, if there's any, to Cillin.

I'm looking forward for more chapters, and of course, the reunion of the sickest accommodation in Seven Lights. <<less

So far really enjoyed and it has a good storyline and colorful characters. It is good and I enjoyed the story.
(But after a C90 I felt like it is monotonous and too lazy to read further. It may be only me but the story doesn't generate thirst and curiosity to read further for me.)

I'm still reading so I might not be detailed enough.

as of now I'm slightly disappointing with the story, it's overly stuffed with plot armor and lots of coincidences

Spoiler

A fight for food happen in his place and he is the only one that survived them he meets a teacher from a powerful family who is stuck on this backward plant because of some unknown reasons and some kind of bullsh** luck and couldn't return.

he meets a mad scientist who used the MC as test piece and use some backward devices to transform the MC in something breaking the world rules. The MC survived the experiment that killed all the other text piece and also miraculously kill the scientist and succeed his transformation. I almost forgot that data deleting mechanism that was supposed to destroy the information but is actually made idiotically to coincidentally transmit the information to the MC.

when he leave the plant he coincidentally meet a famous hunter (who isn't supposed to be in a place like this) who invited him to join his team then they coincidentally find that he looks like an important person who is coincidentally their trade partner and they have trouble to seal the deal and the guy coincidentally needs someone to pretend to be his son...

there is still many coincidences but I'm tired to write them all.

there is also this scene I think I have seen in some children cartoons: the MC used a hoverboard to chase a flying car.

the writer created a big world, very big, with galaxies and plants but somehow it feels like some small villages put together. he couldn't utilizes the full potentials of the world he created

all of this happen in just 20 chapters so this makes me worried about what is coming next

The story is way too inconsistent - first we get promised a dark and gritty hunter world, and then we see MC getting randomly involved in idiotic school competition. MC is also too much of a Marty Sue, with everything everywhere revolving around him...

Honestly, I quite like this despite it being a case of OP!MC with plot armor. Kind of inevitable when your premise is a chip that allows him to control every aspect of his body and instantly upgrades his genes to the optimal level. I'll even admit that the first few chapters are a little too - wow, I guess the MC will never have to expend any effort to succeed.

You just have to hold on until the school arc starts and then everything afterwards is pretty great. I like that... more>> the MC is an all-rounder who is a good mechanic, researcher, AND fighter. I even like his personality, which is very chill and reasonable. The 5 stars are primarily for the engaging action and the humor - the animal companions are my favorite part of this story. This novel has been quite good so far. I wouldn't say awesome, or anything beyond the "deserves 5 star right away!". The worst aspects of this novel boils down to, "descriptions, no-improvement, MC=flawless, useless-characters being added."

First, I don't understand the desire to write those too long as paragraphs that could've been explained with one or two sentences. Too much description is boring, gives me an headache and makes me skip through it all, knowing that I won't miss any important information. Honestly, the story was pretty good at the beginning but this annoyed me the most. There were several times I wanted to stop and just drop it.

Second, there is barely any character development. The MC is stoic, barely shows emotions. It's off-putting but not too bad? I guess the second and third could be merged into one. I guess, he is the MC, they're usually OP or too-much-of-anything-positive. But even that has a limit and when it exceeds the limit: it because.. bad? Solving every problem without any issue, or obstacles is not that entertaining imo.

Fourth, what's with the useless characters being added to the story? Like his ex, I don't mind having an ex girlfriend, she could've shaped him in someway but she's only mentioned to be a significantly important person, but it's not shown. It's an ex,... more>> but why is the ex important?? Instead of continuously mentioning her name, maybe showing would've been better. Also the loli is annoying-

Despite these... small issues, I don't hate the story, it's weak 4?.

Now that I continued with the story, I would give it a 5. I love the story, the characters (definitely the dynamic between cillin and wheeze) I disagree with my initial judgement of the story, Cillin's personality is fine and so is his character development. Obviously the last one still applies. <<less

This author's stories are awesome even without romance. I think it would gather more female attention if it had a late romance where there is a simple lifestyle. Only because it is too lonely and I end up feeling sorry for the MC. Otherwise love all the stories I have read so far.

I dropped this novel back then. I don't know why, but I did it anyways.

So this is a story about a lowly boy who suddenly rose to power after gaining an upgrade on his genetics. At first, I thought the plot was kind of forced cause of the intentional occurance with a person he met at the beggining chapters. I also thought that the Author focuses too much on the MC, well he does but not 'too much'.

That arc's side characters also dissapear after the arc ends and... more>> meets up with the old arc's side characters, quietly maintaining their position in the story. (Review expands as I read more)....

For now, I'd give it a 4/5. <<less

To be completely honest, this novel is pretty okay, (IMO) not too good, but not too bad. It gives of a slightly similar vibe to skyfire avenue (as the above has clearly stated), but it think this is just due to the level of technology in the story. Honestly the story hasn't gone that far, but as far as I'm concerned, the novel seems fairly okay.

Waste of time. Don't bother.

I'm not gonna list everything since people already mentioned a lot of the points but here are the ones I found most egregious:

The characters. I've read like 4 of this author's work and I can say for sure that he's not changing his style. Every character has one joke, one personality trait and one purpose for existence. He's also reusing some of the character archetypes. I hate the second generation type characters in his works with a passion. They are just really annoying and unlikable.

The worldbuilding.... more>> It's too big. The author wants to give a picture of vast scope and make you go 'wow so great' but he does not know how distance or management works so it's just a disorganized mess of measurements that are mashed together to give a big number. From chap 100 onwards, the author seems to be trying to build a dystopian, look at them enjoying all these luxuries while all these other people are suffering except it's either just way too exaggerated to take seriously or too jarring of a change of pace.

The worldbuilding is stretched too thin to be good. There's not enough explanation or focus for any technical subject to be interesting. <<less
