10 years ago, after “the Gate” that connected the real world with the monster world opened, some of the ordinary, everyday people received the power to hunt monsters within the Gate. They are known as “Hunters”.

However, not all Hunters are powerful. My name is Sung Jin-Woo, an E-rank Hunter. I’m someone who has to risk his life in the lowliest of catacombs, the “World’s Weakest”.

Having no skills whatsoever to display, I barely earned the required money by fighting in low-leveled catacombs… at least until I found a hidden catacomb with the hardest difficulty within the D-rank catacombs!

In the end, as I was accepting death, I suddenly received a strange power, a quest log that only I could see, a secret to leveling up that only I know about! If I trained in accordance with my quests and hunted monsters, my level would rise.

I am highly recommending this novel as this got :

  • An Interesting story line
  • MC is clear headed and not dense
  • A Better Romance
  • Cool Action

What can I say? It was pretty amazing for me to read.

Although the romance was little. But the author stayed true to his story. Only he becomes powerful.

So yes its a recommended read from me.

Would have re-read it over and over again tbh.

Story is great

Romance is basically (none existent) from others words.

I'll be honest; this light novel was mediocre. But for anyone else out there who likes the premise, the webtoon adaptation levels the story up (harhar) in every single way.

The novel was tiresome to me because there just didn't seem to be a plot going anywhere. The main character was getting strong way too fast, outpacing all his coworkers, and everything just seemed to come so easy for him. But from the pacing, to the characters, to the action scenes, to the sense of struggle and perseverance is leaps and... more>> bounds better in the webtoon adaptation than the original. Who knew? I have mixed feelings with this novel, I will put here the pros and cons of it:

Pros:

    • People in the review complains about the MC personality but at least he changed a bit because of what he has gone through

      I mean what he experienced in the first chapters and then how he survived in the punishment zone, also the betrayal in other dungeons, so that's why I think is justified how he acts and develops

    • The MC is pretty badass and I enjoyed that a lot (This is more a personal view than a pro of the novel)
    • The mistery of the story and the world was quite good
    • The battles are really entertaining, probably the best part of this, and the guilty pleasure of reading about a MC going from weak to strong
Cons:

    • There is almost none side character development.
    • The romance was pretty bad and plain.
    • The ending was so dissapointing and bad.

      The time resets resurrect like most characters, so the drama about them went to tr*sh. The slice of life chapters don't contributes in anything and they are so fricking boring.

Overall this novel was really entertaining but the ending is so f*cking bad that it ruins mostly everything... without the ending (chapter 244 to 270) I would give it at least a 6/10, so if you like a badass MC and good fights I encourage you to read the manwha (and if you want to continue with the novel read up to chapter 243)

Overall good read but the story goes downhill as it goes on. The final straw for me to dropped it was when the author introduced his dad.. My god what a reveal!.... so cliche and out of nowhere! its like the author ran out of ideas and boom ruined it all.... Good at chapter up to 50s coz MC still developing but beyond that I feel like the story become dull.

I almost finished reading this and I have to say I have NEVER been more interested in a light novel ever. Now the manhwa is being released with probably the best looking art style I've seen so far. If you're into OP characters, Level up type of growth and Huge amounts of badassery this is definitely recommended. For me half the fun was actually reading the reactions of people witnessing the MC's Overwhelming powers.

The reason why I like it is, because it's quick and on point.

There's no "you dare, you no dare " crap here, Just dungeon raiding and fighting.

The novel quickly establishes what it wants to do and It does it well. For that I give it high praise.

Honestly probably one of the best, if not the best, light novels I have ever read. The MC's potential is limitless, but the author does not have the MC grow too fast, but he also does not have the MC grow too slow. The main character is a very interesting person, as well as the side characters. Honestly, I wish there were thousands of chapters so I could just keep reading it all day long.

I started reading this novel because I wanted something similar to This Tutorial is Too Hard where MC grinds alone and gains levels, but offers an interesting leveling experience all the while. This isn't as tense and grim as TITH. In some ways, I got what I wanted bc MC def grinds solo and eventually becomes crazy OP so if you're here for the OPness, this is the right novel for you. I wanted someone smart, and MC is very rational and even cold at times with his decisions--after getting... more>> betrayed once, he never makes that mistake again and never hesitates to cut down an enemy.

A pleasant surprise was his very human side. He has a family that isn't just there for a sad background, he doesn't just use the people around him like a cold blooded chess player--those that are sincere, he genuinely treats them as friends, and loot is not the #1 goal in life--he has no qualms in letting go off the loot for a A rank dungeon even after defeating the boss bc he knows it doesnt belong to him. He is not an excessively compassionate person looking to play the hero, but retains his humanity and helps others when he can.

Overall, a solid novel. <<less

This novel is so good, I am really grateful to the person who is translating this novel because is so good and koran novels are hard to find for free in the original language unlike Chinese novels that are free and easy to find in the original language (idiom), so I thanks the person that is translating this novel.

school did me hella dirty but in that time I reread solo leveling to waste time and ima keep it a buck this story has no personality.

This is the flow of the story badass Jinwoo be doing his badass things but wait! Bunch of f*ckass nobodies get their ass handed to them by evil dude! No worry Jinwoo fight cuz he cool and brave but oh no! Jinwoo lossing, wait jinwoo do cool necromancy and knife. Yay jinwoo win!

I'm being deadass too, like this is how it goes for almost the whole time ur gonna read this.

But what about the side characters? My brotha what side characters u talkin bout? There are none... jk The only side characters I know are Jinwoo's shawty with dirty blond hair (only their for romance ngl) and his gang (which Beru is literally the only one with the tiniest bit of importance) the other side characters really are either stepping stones or some PoohShiesty ahh npcs.

The ending, don't even get me started on that rushed mess and I for a fact know someone gonna go on my other reviews and let me make it clear that yea the other novels I've read got a bunch of similar problems to this one but the difference is that at least in those cases the author was able to use different ways of using the same formula unlike solo leveling and that's a big fact in making this one worse.

Cause be so fr you solo leveling lovers know for a fact this story gets repetitive and boring asf. Crazy part is that I thought ts was so good but it wasn't even close to that. I was too young perhaps. Maybe it's because at the start the chapters were great but over time they got ruined with a MC more dry then Popeyes biscuits and the none existent side cast.

now to it's credit it has very hype moments that I cannot take alway and at the start it was actually super interesting compared to a lot of other novels. Another note is that the extra chapters are very fun and bring more to the table but I ain't gonna count those.

anyhow like always just take my word as a insight and not as a fact judge this work by yourself instead of looking for something to latch on to. Who knows maybe you'll enjoy it? But if you do bffr ts is not the best novel so stop going on tt and capping bout how it's the best when it's really not smh.

Brainless story. Only for those who likes fast paced actions without any substance. The characters are boring and nothing dimensional. The romance does not even make sense. The webtoon is much enjoyable with the art. This story is plain tr*sh. That racism is also shit.

Maybe the anime will be better than this abomination.

One of the first Korean Light novels I read after reading the manhwa version back in 2019 and thought it was quite good.

It's fun while it lasts. I enjoyed seeing the MC gets stronger and stronger every day but he didn't become arrogant. It became somewhat repetitive as he kept on winning and overtaking all the awakened individuals.

I didn't like how everyone else looked so weak and dependent on him towards the end though. Instead of fighting with other awakened fighters, he chose to reset time and fought single handedly.

I came from the manhwa (haven't read the novel yet). Before coming here I was expecting to see countless 5 stars reviews like the ones in the site where I read the manhwa and I was surprised to see that wasn't the case. And I'm glad, because the manhwa (therefore the novel as well) are super over-rated.

The only reason the manhwa is so loved is mainly because of two things:
1) The amazing art
2) How good the author is in making the MC look like a badass

Romance? Barely develop
MC personality? Almost none existent
Story? I guess by the end there's is some

Giving how the novel doesn't have the advantage of having amazing art like the manhwa, I would say that's the reason that people are more fair in reviewing the novel

5/5, complete satisfaction! There are no complains.

I finished this months/year ago. I don't remember the exact date but that was a very long time ago. It is satisfying, the second novel in this genre that I've read at that time.

I was also so surprised when it was picked to be made into manga/manhwa. I'm also satisfied with it (although there are many parts that are skipped, but my mind completed the loopholes via the LN).

Anyway, it is highly recommended. You'll never be bored.

It's competently done enough. Generic but just interesting enough that I was able to finish it. Maybe this is unfair of me, but I keep comparing this to Hunter x Hunter and this story just seems so much less creative. The character designs/personalities are much more bland and the ant arc is like.. A dumbed down, less risky, less unique version of the arc from Hunter x Hunter. The parts I enjoyed the most are actually all the RPG stuff the MC deals with, but it's kinda sporadic and only... more>> applies to the MC.

I will say the manwha has amazing art and I like the way it pioneered the art style for a lot of these new series to thrive. <<less

Compared to many similar novels, this one is high-quality.

The plot is simple but fulfilling - it is not based on author's complex, harems or young-master face smashing. There are monsters, criminals, a conspiracy, fiction, many battles.

The protagonist is cool, the romance is nice. Everything is well. It leaves very good aftertaste.

BTW, the comix is incredibly good, I can recommend it too.

Let's see. I rated it 5/5 by novel update standard... But I guess 3 or 4 out of 5 would be fairer. Ths novel is weird in a way. To summarize, good ideas but poor writing skills and a pace that is too quick.

First though. This is a power fantasy. The protagonist is OP. Honestly, he only got once in a really bad situation and it got solved in one chapter, with the biggest powerup of the whole novel as a reward for the trouble. If a protagonist mostly stomping... more>> over everything that gets in his way bother you, don't read this novel. You'll hate it. This is truly an "overpowered protagonist" kind of novel.

But is it a well done overpowered protagonist? I would say so, mostly. The beginning of the novel is rough but from chapter 20 or so it really begins to shape up. Now I could go on like that but without giving spoiler it's kinda hard.

Now, there are a few things I really appreciated in the novel... compared to others novels on novelupdate in general.

  • Characters, on average, aren't ret*rd. There are exceptions of course but most are ok.
  • The System (the cheat the MC got) and the Gate (the calamity the world is facing) are getting proper explanation. Sure, the MC still drew the lottery ticket, but at least we know how the lottery worked and why it existed... to make an analogy.
  • There is very little racism, if not none at all. Also, Korea isn't made to be the greatest country in the world somehow. It's actually repeatedly said Korea is only a small country and only reason they are getting attention is because the MC is too awesome. When japaneses were brought up in the story, I feared the worst, but nothing like I feared happened. Incredible!
  • The ending...I guess I can see why some people don't like it, but damn. Incredible ending. I mean, I think we can make everyone happy with this ending. You want MC to be op in the end? Check, MC is crazy op. You want it to be bittersweet? Check. You want a very happy ending? Check too. Yes, it is a ridiculously happy ending yet somehow a sad one too.
Of course, the novel has some real big flaw too. To name some of the biggest :

  • Relationship between characters. Very badly written. It feels very forced.
  • The pace is too quick, especially after 100 chapters or so. Lots of things had been set up but only superficially explored or ignored later on in the story.
  • Though it is great everything is explained, I can't help but think the reveals are... dunno. Weak?
  • Fighting in general. Fight scenes are bad. And the concept of technique is mostly ignored. It's just... hit harder, defeat tougher things. As for fighting technique... well, no.
  • A bit too much of 'make people s*upid to make it look like the MC is smart'. Though there are fortunately few ret*rd, it still seems like most people are below average in intelligence so that our average MC can stand out.
All in all though. I've become really tough to please, after reading web novels for about 5 years now (though I don't read much nowadays). The fact I finished this novel means it is still pretty good. Of course... Don't set your expectations too high. It is a fast food novel about a MC getting a ridiculous cheat and living the "easy" life, stomping over everyone. A true power fantasy. If you go with that mindset, then you can enjoy it. If you expect a deep story, interesting characters or good fighting scenes... here isn't the novel for you. <<less

Story line is ok, it got kinda boring near end. I dropped it at ch 228. The manga on the other hand it fking AWESOME. They edit it and cut out certain oarts and it ends up soooo good. Like the art and detail is god level, even for simple hidden bosses. Especially the MC, they draw him so badass! I recommend reading the manga season 1 out only right now tho. BUT, season 2 Coming out Aug 2020.
