As for herself, she had changed her body, owning fair skin and beautiful long legs!

Father loves stepmother, grandparents hold her in their hands and dote on her.

Huo Chi, the big boss, drove back in the limousine, proposed to Elder Qiao in public, and spoiled her like a little princess!

The days of being adored couldn’t get even better!

Watching the wealthy Qiao family, the remarried mother regretted it and cried to come back.

Little Qiao panicked even more: This script is wrong…

3.5 rounded up for the feminist grandma. I think it's enjoyable. You may say it's a cliche MC and plot, but I almost think at it's best moments it's a cultural response to the worst flaws of Chinese culture:

    • the eldest daughter in law representing how maintaining a patriarchal pov is narrow-minded as everyone roasts her the whole time for it
    • The grandma truly showing women hold up half the sky and is the epitome of feminism and overall makes the novel better
    • The grandpa showing it's just a gentle boy who loves us is all ya need
    • Divorce is not the end of the world and shows it's not for either man or woman
    • Actually sympathizing for depression and su*cide (low-key)
    • FatherSss who value their daughters
    • Mother in law's should not have all the power, you do
    • Remarrying multiple times is not a shame
Can it be said that the book writes these with great and intricate writing all the time? Mm no but despite being an op cliche novel, the attempt at these open-minded topics is admirable. Disclaimer I did mtl tho.

However it's not perfect, there's a lot of characters (they all end up appearing again so ya), I skimmed a lot in the beginning, and can feel overly stretched out sometimes. But, it tried to do a lot and I do give it credit. All the main characters are good, not offensive or become not offensive, and you root for the whole family.

If you want to watch a somewhat feminist soap family drama, I think you can give this a try. It's not perfect, but it literally has one punch grandma so idk I think that means something.

It was pretty good. The face slapping moments were very amusing. What I don't like is that there was so much unnecessary text about her family members and others. Like they were getting divorced and hooking up with each other left and right. It was annoying. This story could have been way shorter if the author actually knew what they were doing. Also the ending was a bit rushed to me. Like we could have gotten some input about the MC and ML's married life at least. Also don't even... more>> really know the final ending of the twin sister. I was expecting her to show up again. This story was drawn out for no reason. Also some things were just left open.

4/10 would maybe recommend. <<less

I liked it when it felt like we were going somewhere and things were going to be better. Sadly it turns out we weren't really going anywhere except in time skips.

I'm really not the kind of person who gives a sh*t if there's evil in the books I read. But some things in this book is just too much, it's basically child-suffering p*rn and it happens way too much. At one point we're basically bouncing between scenes of children being treated like tr*sh for hundreds of pages. Like come on,... more>> a little is fine but it's like every child in this universe is tortured in some way. Children die and even the "good" characters treat it as "Shouldn't have trusted your closest family who literally gave birth to you, s*upid 3 year old!". Like I know you're trying to teach people a lesson but these kids just learned how to walk. It's not a terrible book, it was just a bit much for me.

Spoiler

Especially dislike the MCs grandmother after a while. She's a nice person, but at the same time she's completely evil when you think about it. She's an adult with literal magical powers that has strengthened her to the point of punching large boulders into pieces. And she's sooooo disappointed that her grandchild, like 6 years old at this point, doesn't stand up to her mother who hits her, forces her around the house and if the kid questions it the mom and others around them scream at her telling her she's not filial. Except she's totally fine with one of them because she's cute. The other isn't so... SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED until like the last chapter of the novel.

[collapse]

Also don't like the way it's written, with all the names. Eventually I had to copy the text to notepad and change all the names to "second sisters third cousins aunt" and sh*t like that to have any sense of who these people are since they just appear out of no where after being gone for 50 chapters and you're supposed to quickly realise what relationship that person has with everyone else. But this is almost always a problem in Chinese novels that won't constantly have people call each other by their association or have few families. This one has at least 6 families with on average 5~ish people in them that you pretty much have to remember. A lot of people were Karma'd out of existence and I just had no idea who they were or why the universe hated them.

It's also rather drawn out because of how many characters are introduced and then the ending is like a really rushed surprise Bollywood movie.

Edit: saw someone call this feminist and I can't help but disagree wholeheartedly. There's hardly any good women in this book and one of them (MC) spends most of the time as a child rather than a woman. Everyone else are completely psychos who torture their children/in-laws, gossiping about how other women act, extremely biased etc. Sure grandma is fine with people getting divorced which is great, but she's also alright with child s*ave labor and torture so it's a bit hard for me to think she's some kind of feminist hero. Then again I'm not a feminist (but for equal rights). <<less

It astonishes me how much the author is obsessed with skin colour and beauty of the characters. The female protagonist' s skin colour and beauty is mentioned so many times that it borders on being creepy. Not surprisingly the bad characters are either ugly or end up being ugly.... Even characters who seem to be abused in some form are given pity only if they are pretty..

The only saving grace are the grand parents of the protagonist even though they seem to see the suffering of the FL only and... more>> completely ignores anyone else eg: the daughters of Hong Min, their own grand daughters who are being abused by her. <<less

It's fine. The writing is snappy enough that it's never boring or anything but it's a fairly average Mary Sue story. The grandma is my favorite character.

Also I'm shocked I didn't see any other reviews mention this, but. The author is literally obsessed with poop. Every other chapter at LEAST someone is stepping in it or getting it smeared on their walls or being force fed it as a revenge tactic/moment of karmic punishment. I had to stop reading because after the second description of chicken poop being smeared all... more>> over someone and in their mouth I got nauseous. <<less

The story is good. BUT what is this insane addiction to fairness of the skin? In most of the chinese novels the beauty of the FL is praised to an abnormal level. BUT cant they spare the kids? WTF. The children are distinguished based on their skin color. So disgusting. Except the FL all other kids are dark and ugly so they dont have the right to be liked by anyone more than the FL. Every time they compare the kids saying oh the FL is so fair and cute... more>> but the other kid is dark and ugly. WTF. The kids themselves speak like this and assume things like this. None of the adults corrects them, NONE of them ever say that the fairness doesnt matter and all kids are equal. It pissed me off so much. Especially the way they describe the fourth baby girl of the first son of the grandma, they keep saying how dark and ugly the baby is whenever she comes up. It's a baby !!!!! And even when she is growing up everyone keeps saying oh how ugly she, how dark she is, how will she find a husband? The adults just laugh when kids are saying this, they don't correct their behavior. What the hell is so funny? BS!!

The only reason I completed the novel is for the grandma and her first son and daughter-in-law. I loved the grandma. Her first son and his wife were a comedy duo. They made me laugh a lot. If you leave out the crazy beauty specifics, the story is a slice of life and pretty good. Thats why 3 stars. <<less

I really liked this book. I recommend it to anyone who like these 1950-1980 kind of stories. It's more slice of life but there were moments that I found really exciting. Also really funny moments because of the FL eldest uncle and aunt.

Tags are very deceiving. There isn't much action. The story is very slice of life. MC is a child for majority of book and most antagonistic are just brainless family members. Side characters, Mc' family, are fleshed out. All in all, avg read

I'm surprised at the low rating. It's actually quite good. It's not that the author is obsessed with p**p but it's a way of showing karma to those who tried to hurt/malign/disadvantage Da Qiao.

I really respect the grandparents here, especially grandma. I think without her, the whole family will crumble. The grandma is strong, reasonable and loves Da Qiao the most, and grandpa is the soft one. The dog food here is actually from grandma and grandpa. You have to admire their relationship. Couple Goals.

There's a lot of face slap... more>> but it's more like karma for the bad guys. The good guys never did anything to hurt those who try to harm them directly.

This story is more about their whole family, more than the main FL and ML. Most of the story happened when the FL is still young and so, the story revolves around their family and it's a warm story eventhough there are some annoying people, karma dealt with them. <<less

How far can a good action take you?

Little Da Qiao before the koi broke my heart, so saddening to see her being treated like that for bull crap. Little Da Qiao after the koi, still broke my heart, there were moments where you could see that, although her fate had changed and the way people perceived her had changed, she herself couldn't believe it and acted cute to atrack the love and care of others and was deeply afraid of being mistreated again. I loved to read her gaining confidence,... more>> strength, determination and blooming like she deserved.

Other than her, I love the grandma. Granny Qiao carried this story on her own, she is the pillar we all need, the example we should all follow, All Hail Grandmother Qiao!!!

The First Branch Husband and Wife are simply hilarious, Wan Chun Jun was so unlikable at the beginning but she became the mascot of the story. The fact that she ended up loving her youngest and her grandchild, and that she was actually a decent mother-in-law was the reversal of the story. No character development whatsoever, but she was the comic relief the author brilliantly created. <<less

Definitely not a jaw-dropping series but this story is a good read.

One thing that I notice is very original in 70s kinda story is that the MC grew up in a family which is so far from patriarchal that can be possible at that time line. Due to MC grandma who is the back bone and bread winner of the family. Grandma ftw!

Another thing is the comedy of the first uncle family. Both husband and wife is very slapstick and their relationship is very unique. On that note, their family... more>> relationship is also very unique. All couples have their own history and struggle.

Not all those in this story is good tho. For example, author build up background story of Xiao Qiao evilness at the start (maybe around almost 50 chapters), then she end up missing and almost entirely gone from the story. Only reappearing in 1 chapter and then no more conclusion. I also want to watch MC an ML have cub but I got tricked! <<less

So far I've taken a great liking to the novel despite its particularly odd descriptions of MC's beauty... Though I find MC's parents to be extremely incompetent. I dislike her father in the sense that he really can't seem to take charge of anything:

Spoiler

His inactivity in helping protect MC... not really saying anything when she was malnourished and dressed in rags. I have mixed feelings about her stepmother as well, strictly because she beat her son and cried about it until she heard MC was involved with the eggs—especially because she thought of the MC's recently divorced father.

I, however, do adore MC's grandparents. I enjoy the interactions between her and her grandmother, and love the reversed roles of traditional values in their relationship. I hope to see more of them and less of everyone else! <<less

This is one of those stories where MC is pretty much good natured, and people who go out of their way to annoy end up kicking a brick/punching a nail. Pretty funny banter.

My biggest gripe is amount of bad stuff happening in background, if you give those things more than 10% of your attention, it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

This is a very straightforward story.

MC is the unfavoured twin, constantly being abused by her mother. MC saves a magical fish and this fish give her a jade that dispenses magical beads that can sure illness/beautify the skin/grow plants. The jade is kind of like a limitless tic tac dispenser, and with this magical tool and MC's magical koi luck, she embarks on the perfect life without any major challenges in life. She becomes beautiful and smart, loved by her family and excels easily in school. Besides her rough start... more>> in life, everything else after that is smooth sailing for her. She is a winner in life.

All the "bad" people, like her mother and younger sister, as all the evil relatives out there, all get their just desserts and are punished, either by the law or their family or just the plot, in some way. Everyone who is bad ends up with bad endings, while everyone who is good ends up getting a perfect marriage and a happy life. Legit everyone eventually pairs up and has kids.

It's not a bad novel. I very much enjoyed it except for the romance. The romance was bland and boring. <<less

This story can really be summed up with "Karma is a b*tch".

Everyone who did wrong had something horrific happen to them.

Spoiler

MC's mother, for example, thought she was leaving behind the dead weight of the country but ended up being given to her new husband's boss as a s*xual plaything. She then plots to have her brother (who is apparently a psychopath) kill the MC's stepmother. She ends up getting executed.

Another example is the MC's cousin's mother-in-law. The woman was controlling and extreme to the point that her son and husband had to trick her to get her away from MC's cousin. This was after she almost made her miscarry and was willing to watch the cousin crawl to the door as she thought they could have another kid if this one was a girl and it was just better to let the baby die. She ends up dying of rabies.

[collapse]

The MC is originally an average (or perhaps even slightly-below average) little kid who has been mistreated by her mother. She somehow still managed to keep a warm heart and is generally quite kind even though others have been treating her as a Calamity due to her mother and sister's actions. Through a rather odd chain of events, she ends up rescuing a Koi that turns out to be the daughter of a dragon. This Koi then rewards her with a jade pendant that only appears when the MC wants it and provides beads that are full of healing.

The ML doesn't show up for a bit but he was a young boy sent to the Farm because of his Father's death and his grandfather's former job. Right from the get go, the MC is nice to him and that helps build on the affection he has for her. Even after he leaves the country, he never forgets the MC and very adorably courts her when they are teens/twenty-years old.

Spoiler

Never explains why but the ML actually dreams about her nightly. I'm assuming this was because of the pendant/Koi as it started roughly at the same time as her getting the pendant.

[collapse]

After finding the Koi, the MC begins to live a life that's far better than what she had before. Her relatives begin to adore her (other than her mother and sister of course), the beads revitalize her father and anyone who says anything bad about her is struck by bad luck.

Spoiler

So. Much. Chicken Poop.

Like... people step on it, fall in it, have it smeared on their faces and shoved in their mouths. It is the de facto go to for the author in the Country arc of the story.

[collapse]

Other than the pendant, she doesn't really have any other bonuses but the author does write the occasional "unnatural" reaction from the MC (such as when she told two women they would have kids and then boom, pregnant). Even the two reincarnators/regressors have more of an advantage until it becomes very clear that the story isn't playing out like they remember (and they are pretty braindead).

Spoiler

One regressor is her twin who never considered the impact of herself no longer being mentally challenged (she basically lived 10 years with being "locked in" her own body). Everything she knew was all second hand information but she treated it like she had the whole future written out.

Of course, she ends up losing everything and then just fades from the story. The only "evil" one who didn't really have a completely horrid ending.

[collapse]

The romance doesn't really start until later in the book but we get to see all of the family find their perfect person. The story ends when the ML proposes to the MC on graduation (which felt like a d*ck move to all the other graduates imo).

The story is a fun romp with slight magical happenings but it is a bit too run-on with way more characters than it actually needs. <<less
