Lin Jie is the owner of a bookstore in another world.

He’s kind and warm-hearted, often recommending healing books to customers who are going through a tough time. From time to time, he secretly promotes his own work too.

Over time, these customers begin to respect him greatly, some even frequently bringing local specialties to repay his favor. They often seek his professional opinion when it comes to selecting books, and share their experiences with this ordinary bookstore owner to people around them.

They respectfully and intimately refer to him using names such as the “Demon God’s Lackey”, “Propagator of the Flesh and Blood Gospel”, “ ‘Corpse Devouring Sect’s Rites and Customs’ Author” and “Shepherd of the Stars”.

Really recommend it, especially to those who like novels without heavy stuff going on.

Its a mix of dark fantasy, comedy and wholesonemess. Just really wish to uncover more about the 'shadow' and the 'reality, ' I mean what you see may be different. Idk. There's just misunderstandings and the kind where it makes the novel fun and chaotic cute.

Love the MC and his 'marketing tactics.'

All I can say it's refreshing. It has been a long time for me since I found a gem like this, good misunderstandings and characters interacting with their own trains of thought and having their world views have a high impact on what would otherwise be meaningless banter.

One of the novels that effectively utilized the "misunderstanding" trope really well. The novel started off strong and the jokes were overall great but I felt that there could have been much progression to the overarching plot. Reading the last 20-30 chapters were a chore for me. Nevertheless, it's a nice novel that I would recommend others to read.

I am enjoying this novel because it brings the Lovecraft Mythos into an urban fantasy, which is where the misunderstandings come from

I love it because I’m a Lovecraft fan and I’m having fun figuring out the gods incarnations (c243 introduces Yog-Sothoth as a caterpillar who powers a clock, which is fun because Yog-Sothoth is a god of space and time)

I can understand why people who aren’t familiar with Lovecraft find this novel confusing or boring. I am having fun reading it and find the misunderstandings and expositions delightful

It was a good book though it might fustrating. The misunderstanding don't last till the end and the ending itself is a happy one but like a lot of character oriented novels I've seen, it could really do with a epilogue because the sense of closure was lacking.

It starts off well, but it has some problems that really drag it down. I really like the Lovecraftian stuff and some of the mysteries are interesting, but overall it feels like it wasn't really planned out. There are plenty of times where something happens which seems important, but it either changes or is totally forgotten about.

The world itself also doesn't make much sense. There are huge explosions and giant creatures that appear fairly frequently, and yet they're able to MiB it? There's also some stuff about the overall geography.... more>> There's even a whole new government added after 400 chapters, which was somehow never mentioned before that.

Overall, it's pretty good if you can shut your brain off and ignore a bunch of stuff... which is definitely not ideal for a novel with the mystery genre. It also gets pretty repetitive. Not terrible, but fails to live up to its potential. <<less

For me this novel is pretty good and thus I speedrunning the raw using MTL until the end of the novel.

Aside for my craving to read misunderstood MC series, the comedy pretty much hit me right in the nail.

The story start when Lin Jie our MC in this novel, wants to have every knowledges in the galaxy (I dunno what the right term for it beside that) and decided to summoning your not average genie that immediately granted by the genie... And here the MC transmigrated to the world of... more>> dark fantasy, opening the bookstore.

Many kinds of customers comes to the bookstore to borrowed, bought and consulted to our MC who have high understanding in the world of persuasion with our MC of course trying his best to help his dear customers, but unfortunately the customers and our MC share differences understanding resulting the conspiracy theories with our MC as the core of the conspiracies and all.

For me the plot is as I expected but still shocked me nevertheless, I don't want to get any detail about the story since it get count as the spoiler since the hints I am about to tell is a specific clue for the whole plot, so I hold myself to not write it but lemme tell you that the novel adapted the "Lovecraft" contents and also "FromSoftware" game series (Elden Rings, Dark Souls and Bloodborne most precisely), other than that all I can say is that... The MC is quite something...

And of course I will re-read it again after all the chapters get translated since you know how quirky MTL is and yes to me final score for the novel is 5 stars! See you again to my next review if you happened to bump on the same novel that I read from now on 👍🏻 <<less

So far so good.. Not gonna lie at first the whole misunderstanding thing was quite annoying to me as I had only read leveling type novels. This is my first novel reading that has the misunderstanding troupe. So I don't know if it is forced or not but every chapter till now is refreshing and makes me want more. I didn't feel any bore while reading it. Although MC being quiet oblivious to every supernatural thing around kinda seems forced as he didn't even suspects anything out of ordinary and... more>> even at times when he suspects he quickly discards any such thoughts which kinda seems off to me.

Anyway I'm gonna give it a five as every other chapter is refreshing and fun to read. <<less

I've just finished this story and I'm already fully aware this is something I will revisit whenever I need to decompress and escape into another world. This story was a lot of fun to read. I won't mention things like the quality of plot or writing or characters since that's the last thing I care about with this story. It's just one of those reads, you know? It landed for me completely. None of those other things mattered. Hopefully you can have the same experience.

Honestly, with the way Author rushed the final arc and just finished the story as if he is running away from it this novel deserved 2 or 3 star, but since I got enough enjoyment during its beginning and middle part I am inclined to give 4 star.

I will not spoil much, but the ending is too abrupt, it feels hollow to be frank. It feels like author was not given time to weave the subplots together and in the end decided to create a mess of an ending where... more>> everything ended just for the sake of it. <<less

A good novel that uses the rather rare plot point of a transmigration/shop owner slice of life combo.

As a novel built upon misunderstandings and world building, this may come off as jarring for other readers and those simply wishing to get their daily power fantasy fill. However, if you can look past all that, you may be able to find a novel that stands out compared to the other novels that have the exact same plot points and backgrounds.

A nice novel with a very small drop of eldritch and a... more>> healthy dose of misunderstanding. Might not be for all readers, but a good novel to check out nonetheless.

4/5. Good. <<less

Awesome, 6/5! A nice and kindhearted MC stays in his bookstore and gives advice to customers. Simple and efficient. Add some misunderstandings, black magic, dream beasts, schemes and heavy rain on top of that and you got yourself a story!

I really like this novel, the misunderstanding is what hooked me up and it's super hilarious. All customers somehow misinterpret what MC really wants to say and thus, mistaking his identity. But of course, his swindler kind nature is what draw people in LOL.

Although it's about half of the novel, there's still mystery around MC's transmigration. Like what exactly is the one who transmigrated him, what are the conditions that he needs to do, etc. Let's wait and see how these unfold in future chapters.

Although most people don't like MC's... more>> ignorance, thus many bad reviews, I personally like it and find it charming. Plus let's be realistic. MC is not totally ignorant, he is, until this point in novel, aware of the fact that magic exists. He just hasn't linked it to the whole shenanigan happened around him yet. So at least we know for sure that he'll totally know everything. And I don't know if those bad reviewers have read to the recent chapters, but at one point,

Spoiler

it's revealed that the thing that transmigrate him has something to do with his brain. Apparently it locked a part of his ability to gain certain knowleadge about this world due to fear of MC's brain being overloaded, and may explode. It's also revealed that when his brain can witstand that certain knowledge, he will naturally understand how things are.

[collapse]

Now, the reason why I rate this novel 4 instead of 5 star is because there're many occasions where the novel imitates the lines of LotM. Imagine while you are reading this, suddenly you read "excuse me, so you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Mr. Lin?" Not sure if this is the works of the author or the translator, but these hints with LotM reference make me uncomfortable. It seems like it's riding on the fame of LotM. <<less

Well, the novel is basically like, some random dude goes inside the bookstore, the MC misunderstood that his customer has some mundane problem like their lover cheating or something.

He proceeds to give some advice that his customer absolutely misunderstands, and then the MC smoothly uses that opportunity to sell or let them borrow books.

The customer would see a completely different book from the eyes of the MC, the book would unleash its powers then another round of misunderstandings will occur. Something like the customer thinking that the MC is a... more>> powerful and mysterious being ect.

Then the customer will proceed to use the book to cause chaos, and repeat.

And in the middle of all that chaos is the MC, just there selling books.

It may sound repetitive but I tell you..... it is lol😆

But it's different his time! Believe me, but if you don't then believe the ratings~~

But if you look at it from the perspective or the protagonist then it's kinda fun and humorous, but if you look at it from the perspective of the other characters then you would find that it's actually more twisted than you thought it'd be. And while you're nearing the end, it gets darker and darker. I haven't finished it though, I just stopped for a moment to leave a review. So bye bye~ <<less

Love: fast paced world building. We all are familiar with fantasy tropes & lingos, so it's super nice how the author built this world without long a$$ description. The translator did an amazing job of conveying the author's intention.

Love: the double entrendes lol. Not in a smutty sense, but literally our MC talks A & meant A, while everyone around him read his A as B C D FGHIJKLQRZ lmao.

Love how 'old' our MC felt. Loves to give advice (chicken soup) --he felt like a friendly grandpa lol.

Love: background of... more>> bookstore ❤️ magical books that has two faces & have the ability to made grown men & women cry ❤️ <<less

Over time, the idea that the MC has no idea what's going on and is oblivious to the happenings around him starts to get annoying and tiresome. Also, the premise that he is just an ordinary person who is misunderstood to be OP is what drew me, but slowly the novel turns the MC to the common level upping with golden finger protags from other web novels.

I like the story and how it's executed, but I don't think it's perfect.

I just wished the MC had some knowledge about what the customers are speaking rather than being completely oblivious about it or misunderstanding it

I've read enough novels to get tired of novels in general but this one came as a breath of fresh air. Although I don't like normal misunderstanding based novel since it gets unfunny after a few chaps and feels forced, this novel has done that beautifully.

Highly Recommended
