This is one of the series that is able to make me hooked with only 2 chapters. Yes, I cannot resist the urge to read the raw.

This series has a comedy structure which is similar to the Slow Prison Life which is enjoyable, but it has more serious side compared to the Slow Prison Life.

The series starts by defining the plot at the first chapter, after that there will be a time-skip. The series will reveal the logical reason along the progression of story.

... more>> -Story-

-It has interesting plot where the MC remembers her memories when she was alive in modern world without magic. Of course, she is interested in magic and wants to use it. This is the main plot. Further explanation will be spoiler.. =w=

-Do not worry, the author is not the author who makes the series where everything (problems) only makes you only say "Ah the MC comes, everything will be resolved according to the MC's will"

- For you who read for the shoujo-ai, you must read further.. because there is no like "Ah, I just met her and I love her" things. The shoujo-ai is a process, not an accident.

-Characters-

-The MC has an aura which will make you want to support her. She is a MC type that can make the atmosphere becomes her color.

-She is not the generic isekai MC because of (spoiler) xD...... yeah, you need to read further to know.

-The characters are "alive". You cannot say "That character is bad because he is bad". Yes, this series has good characters building.

-Translation-

-You can expect a good translation from Mistakes were Made

-Conclusion-

For these reasons, I rate this 5/5. Phew, this is the longest review I have written for now. <<less

Hey there,

This one a rare type of isekai + fantasy one. Usually it goes yo straight type of harem but, nope. This one heading to shoujo-ai type or yuri route ;)

I read it and it had the typical opening of otome game and, ya know the trope ;)

The translation was nice and the translator put good consideration what goes in it or what not since it seems this one had a LN and WN version and both had different plot ya know ' cause the translator also... more>> put some picture thats from LN too!

So far, it's worth to put it in reading list for those that crave the yuri-ness or shoujo-ai + isekai + magic (makes me think the possibility of having magic babies XD).

P/s : maybe the one that gave 3 stars is the one that doesn't like yuri or shoujo-ai and tryin to discourage people from getting this one on. Well, they sucks! (^~^) <<less

Came from the manga translation by the same translator. The comedy is top tier even amongst novels of 4.5+ Rating, the characters are well written, the way in which the isekai setting shapes the plot feels natural and non-cliche (at least compared to the many other isekais that I have read), and I could continue complementing this but if you're reading this review, just see it for yourself instead. Really hope this gets picked up soon. (Officially dropped by 'Mistakes were Made', site is misleading, see their discord announcements)

It is surprisingly good.

Normally, when I see a long-ass title with terms 'reincarnation', 'genius' and 'magic', I don't even feel like trying it, as I have seen too many boring isekai stories made out of the same model that you can tell just from reading their first chapters.

But this one is different: our MC is not normal.

... more>> She is not elegant and respectful as a reincarnated noble lady should be; her sidekick is.

She is not the one whose engagement got cancelled by some dumbass prince; her sidekick is.

She is not born with overpowering magical talents; her sidekick does.

And,

she is not sane; her sidekick is.

However, she is still op, just in a different way.

She is so unique that you will definitely like her. <<less

It started off pretty well, then sorta fell apart for me around arc 3-4 and only got worse from there.

Spoiler

The politics stuff just shouldn't have been a thing honestly. Strong point of this series was the magical stuff which gets shoved in the backseat to make way for a bunch of repetitive conversations.
It's also at this point where the quirky genius MC turns into dumbest character in the room in every situation. 50% of her dialogue turns into really dumb questions she already knows the answer to, the other 40% is some derivation of "eh?! EH?!" and the remaining 10% is generic japanese tropey hopes and dreams and making everybody smile stuff.

Main character wants to work on magic and doesn't want to be king, but will do it anyway because it's a responsibility she has to carry, love interest wants MC to be free and doesn't want her to be king.

This issue is resolved by the girlfriend kicking mc's ass, becoming a greater spirit in the process, and adopted by the royal family to become king instead. Instead of being granted freedom MC gets commandeered by her girlfriends ex-dad to mass produce weapons for the military.

There is apparently 0 problems with any of this.

She isn't even mildly upset that everything she worked for was crushed by her Mary Sue girlfriend because she suddenly gets god-spirit powers mid-fight. Additionally these powers come at the cost of her girlfriend literally getting her soul replaced by spirits. That's some ship of Theseus horror stuff right there, and apparently nobody takes issue with the fact that she basically killed herself and got replaced by a spirit wearing her skin.

She's (kind of understandably I guess) not upset when that girlfriend takes her position in the royal family.

She's not even upset when her girlfriends dad, who also targeted MC in the past because he was worried about MC leaving and spreading her inventions elsewhere, takes away her freedom to get her to make more weapons. She now spends most of her time doing paperwork and managing mass production of magic tools rather than doing the research she wants to do. Not even the girlfriend is upset by this when she literally did all this sh*t so MC could be free.

She's not even mildly upset when her girlfriend humiliates her at the Ministry when she tells off someone who's been blatantly hostile to her, and tells her to go home like a child. Their relationship isn't strained at all by literally any of this.
It's just me but I really hate the trend of mc's being inhumanly s*upid because apparently that's comedy. It gets tiring reading the MC be a slackjawed-drooling-doormat for the nth time.

I think the idea was to show that through hardwork the common man could match someone talented, but the girlfriend just kinda ends up being superior to MC in every fashion despite that and ends up being a kinda depressing comparison point. Girlfriend is a magical Mary Sue and can basically instantly do anything MC takes time to develop. She can also handle being the queen and doing magical research while running the Ministry while the MC apparently cannot. MC has spent time training/adventuring yet gets crushed in a fight by girlfriend who hasn't. Even worse she loses to a random guard side character she used to be able to beat. So if you want power progression you're going to be kinda disappointed here. Girlfriend is now an all powerful immortal great spirit and MCs just gonna get old and die. It just seems weird that no matter what she does she'll never actually succeed, and yet it's framed as if her dream all along was to become an arms dealer and bring self-heated teapots to the average commoner instead of her dream being to do magic herself.

There are some significant differences from the manga so far, and probably the ln too, but I would recommend reading those versions instead if you can. The manga's 20 chapters atm only reach to like chapter 10 or so of the webnovel but I think it's done better. In the manga version the dragon plotpoint has a lot more emphasis, and MC seems more focused on gaining magic for herself.

Here's my (Otome) Isekai setting evaluation:

Technical: A

The quality of the writing + translation is good. You can tell when certain stories are unedited and written by amateurs, based on the amount of details, etc. This is well done both at the lower level (quality of prose) and higher level (integration of exposition, separation of plot arcs) up until now. Note: YMMV, since e.g. My personal tastes let me tolerate wordy fiction.

... more>> Premise: A

High rating for novelty. MC being a outsider to the Otome setting without foreknowledge mixed with her being completely OCP to the situation is great. Also, yuri is not a demerit here.

(Political) Intrigue: B+

Volume 1 sets up the basic situation, but it's only with the start of volume 2 here that we seriously dive into politics. There's already the bare minimum here with how it's aware that a denouncement is absolutely not the right way to handle the situation politically, and the finagling needed for the preliminary steps needed to resolve the situation, but the rest of volume 1 mostly focuses on establishing the setting and characterization of the protagonists. This is absolutely the right choice - it takes time for politics to move at this level, and so pushing it further back in the timeline while fleshing out the setting first works better than rushing it. Up to chapter 15, it's done a good job of analyzing the situation but hasn't gone so far in terms of using intrigue in the form of moving the plot, so this gets a B with hopes that it'll move into A.

To clarify that last statement, we haven't seen much political action besides the major decision taken at the start of volume 2, so it's hard to say whether resolution later in the series will be done with the deft dagger of intrigue or the blunt hammer of the MC's magic, though she seems competent enough to be using the former.

Romance Fluff: B

It's cute. I'd like to see romance start up between the MC and the FL, and as with the politics it's really too early for anything to show up here so far other than the initial friendship.

Character Depth: B-

FL is an archetype. The maid is an archetype. MC is a slightly more complex archetype. The king shows up more as a gag character. As with all the other points above, it's really too early for any character development to show up, but the setup so far at least makes it a possibility.

Overall rating: S-

Volume 1, by itself, is a solid A. It mostly sells itself based on the quality of the writing and the premise, combined with the lack of any egregious flaws. The start of volume 2 that we have so far bumps it up because it promises that we're not (just) getting a random fluffy SoL where MC and FL go around playing with magic while the King resolves all the problems in the background, but that instead we're also set in a serious setting with intrigue and politics that the MC needs to take a hand in. If there are no missteps with the rest of volume 2, I'll bump this up to a solid S, so the S- score here reflects my expectations of quality based on what I've seen up until now. <<less

Honestly I was super skeptical about this novel, as I hate watching broken engagements that don't imediately f*ck over the royal douchebags that think it's okay to do that. Holy sh*t guys, like people said before, there's no immediate first love, the protagonist is weird but not really op.

Spoiler

On regaining her memories, we as the audience knows what's up, but we still don't understand how it's completely affected her. She acts like an idiot, but has shown a mature, serious side that is willing to be the queen she was meant to be. She's still hasn't really opened up to her parents, and she is viewed to be inferior by the ministry of magic. She has enemies within herself and from those around her as modern views make her seem like a heretic to the public eye.

She still can't use magic (it's the spirit system guys), and still lacks in being able to create what she wants. Having to even use magic stones (from monsters), to create permanent tattoos just to be able their abilities

[collapse]

Guys I'm f*cking in love with this MC, because she's not forceful towards the love interest, she isn't focusing on love anyway, the magic system is somewhat unique and super logical in how its explained.

This is so f*cking good. <<less

Only two chapters are translated at this time, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt, but so far it's a lot of fun. The main character reincarnated from Earth and is obsessed with magic. She is actually unable to use magic, despite the swords and magic fantasy world, but uses (presumably) the scientific method to revolutionize magic technology anyway. All of this happens off screen, mind you. She gets reincarnated and then the story skips ahead several years after she has succeeded in creating 'Magicology' and becoming a... more>> powerful but uncontrollable force in the kingdom.

The thing that happens in the first chapter that really got my attention was that she crashes into the 'Villainess bad end' scenario and within seconds recognizes it for what it is. I like the meta awareness.

I have no idea what direction the story is actually going to go, but it looks like fun thus far. Give it a try once it has more chapters. <<less

I really do hope this gets picked, its literally the best yuri novel to exist currently yet translations keep going on hiatus for eons and eons over and over, I don't recommend this read unless it gets picked up . Because you're gonna come refreshing this page like an idiot everyday hoping it got updated.

Let me first say that I still don't like Shoujo Ai and/or Yuri. (Especially to Sora-chi since he made that made the P.S statement)

Now that we have my declaration. Here is 5 stars. For starters, I love the family dynamics. It reminds me a little of Slow Prison Life where people try to be serious only to end up in Tsukkomi heaven.

I'd probably be able to write more than that as a proper review if there were more than two chapters currently.

And as usual, as far as personal preferences... more>> go, Mistakes Were Made never make mistakes. <<less

It's unique and entertaining and while the plot is very similar to your generic otome villainess isekai it's very different and doesn't follow most tropes heck is this even otome villainess isekai? Aside from the introduction it doesn't seem to follow most cliches and usually sees itself as an individual story. I really like the MC as while she is tomboyish and rebellious while maintaining a speck of feminity she doesn't completely disobey rules and customs unlike other MC who just completely wrecks it for no reason than just because... more>> they are "interesting" anyways it's a pretty good read so far and I really like the casts of characters and their interactions.

(Completely unrelated) since this is just the webnovel I feel like some parts are scuffed but basing on the manga which from the looks of it is probably based on the light novel where I feel like the plot and characters are way more grounded and refined but from an overall perspective this is a pretty unique take on the genre not just in otome isekai but isekai as a whole because One thing I find unique about this is that while it has dark moments it doesn't focus on it in a grand scale like it exists but the whole world and story isn't going to completely focus on it and happy moments can have sad moments the same way heavy moments can if you get what I mean.

made an ACC just to rate this since it was such a lovely read also the reason why this review probably sucks also (english isn't my main language) but overall it's highly recommended <<less

I really wanted to drop this during the royal banquet chapter.

Like, it was so predictable.
I didn't even need to read what was going to happen next when Prince dropped their engagement with Duchess. Prince dennounces their engagement in public. Duchess cries out in anguish, asking "Why?!". Commoner Noble enters the scene. "To marry her.", Prince says. Duchess points out that this will cause problems for the kingdom. Prince gives zero cares and snaps his fingers. 'Prince Lackeys were summoned'. Prince Lackeys use 'Slander'. Duchess is currently 'confused'. 'Slander' is... more>> Super Effective!. Duchess is 'stunned', turn is skipped!

What I didn't expect was the MC crashing through a window on a broomstick.
Personally, I feel like the part about her appearance should have been moved to a later chapter. Like, a girl crashes through a window, and describing her appearance is the first thing you think about. Really? Is nobody concerned on how fast you need to be going to break through a window? Why is nobody screaming "She crashed through a window! Is she alright?!". I feel like the Duchess, Prince Faction, and peanut gallery was just taking things in stride, and wasn't actually shocked about a random girl barging through a window. They then proceed to watch said girl from abducts the Duchess on a broomstick. A broomstick.

Parent part is also surprisingly good.
King views Princess as a smart daughter, but is sulking about needing to clean up the aftermath of his daughter's traffic accident (again), so it's left unsaid. Duke opens up and apologizes to Duchess for failing to be a father.

Politics part caught me off guard.
Duke hinted that they would absolutely place Princess on the throne, even if he has to pull some strings, if ever the Prince breaks off the engagement with Duchess. King compares Princess to a beast or mythical creature that needs to be chained.
Jesus, chill, give me back my cringy romcom.

Overall, this has pretty good potential, and I would read more of this. <<less

It is really good, but I would actually recommend waiting for the official translation of the novel version. It isn't because the translation is bad or anything.

The web novel and light novel are actually pretty different experiences. In a way, all the same stuff happens, but the pacing and way things are shown is quite different. The web novel gives everything to you pretty straight, but the novel feels like it lets you see things for yourself as they unfold. For example, the web novel just says that she at... more>> some point slayed a dragon, and shows her easily dealing with a monster stampede. The novel on the other hand has the dragon as part of the stampede, and it isn't easy. It is a huge ordeal that has the MC and the FL working together for the first time.

The novel is a lot more refined. The manga is more like the novel if you want to compare. <<less

I love this LN so much that I was hoping to get this translated since the last time I checked it, it stopped. I'm still an avid reader of this light novel although there are small chances of getting this translated and finished. The translations are so understandable, and thank you for your efforts for that.

This story does not mainly focus on romance but magic, politics, etcetera. I love how the translations are not rushed, the story is not rushed and most of all, I love the development of the... more>> relationship between the Anise and Euphie. Anise may be weird due to her madly falling in love with science or magic that she hardly concentrates on others esp her surroundings. Overall, the story is great and I have fun reading it!!

I hope this gets translated continuously and finish the LN. Thank you so much!! <<less

I expected a lot from this series, coming from the manga...

I was utterly disappointed. Whole chapters about the origin of magic and then you get maybe a page of fighting... or flirting.

I enjoyed the clash of ideals, but I felt empty after reading all of it.

I started due to the manga, from what I understood, both Light Novel and Webnovel have differences, but follow the same plot, and considering the manga, I'm guessing that LN adds a bit more filler and maybe some extra depth.

Well, has been looking interesting at least.

I didn't read the web novel so I'm not sure how it's going to progress or if it gets any better, but the light novel was an okay read.

The sudden shifts in POV were slightly confusing. There was little world-building, which was a shame, considering that the fundamentals of magic science was interesting to think about and could be a starting point for an engaging world. The 1st half of the novel was more of an introduction to the fundamentals of magic and the characters. On the 2nd half, it... more>> gradually got more wholesome. I've come to enjoy it by the end of it. The characters were likeable, and the relationship between them was cute. Romance was not the focus of the novel (in terms of volume 1), and it was more of a CGDCT with a tinge of action and slightly emotional scenes.

I'm not gonna be reading the 2nd volume though. It didn't peak my interest enough. <<less

it has good parts.... and serious-wannebe parts. like politics and pseudo-sciences.

the problem is politics. it was too serious when compare to other things. characters transformed into their ruthlessly serious seinen counterpart.

it's like uncanny valley. I stopped enjoying when I get to politics part. it's too weired. too out of place. it doesn't fit in the novel that is a lighthearted comedy with broken logic.
