ok so you go threw 5 and 3/4 novels reading about the op main character. That is modeled after a pathetic unbelievably naïve child. Thinking good thing I watched the anime. So I don't have to spend the time reading about a saint spewing goodness and holy light. That only wants to spread love threw the world while holding hands. Who the only people that would enjoy reading about. Would be those dumb enough to think that behavior is something only amazing people do. (To those that fit into that... more>> category try to keep it down while the world is kicking your ass.) all the while thinking man some of his friends need to get killed so he changes and stopes that shit. Which they finally do. Exhaling a breath of relief while he massacres an army your like finally that's over. I hate novels where they make it so no one dies and after many battles the MC basically takes over the world without having to kill anyone. Because he's just that nice and everyone becomes his friend. Might as well make it a children's book if that's the case. When you've read that far and had that relief BAM!!!! It goes right back to that. Like the author bit*h slapped you in the face. The MC actually says the sentence "defeat the new king’s soldiers without killing any of them". This is a army of thousands where talking about. <<less

WN and LN doesn't have much different in the beginning but if you read both you'll see WN writing is so rough, less details and fast paced, it's just chapter 12 but the pacing started to look disgusting to me. I better just wait for the LN.

Ps: If you didn't watch the anime and didn't read the LN either, you'll definitely enjoy the WN. :)

Loved it in the beginning, but then the story starts to slow down. At a certain point the story starts getting overly complicated and entire chapters are needed to repeat explanations of the situation.

especially the meetings between the people. Like in the beginning I liked the added realism but later entire chapters are spend on the characters discussing the current situation.

this novel is rushed and very bad.. MC is a goody two shoe and hypocrite..

the death mage who doesn't want a fourth time is much better all in all, at least the MC there wants to kill the gods who who tries to harm his kingdom (no mercy to his enemy)

this MC is making dungeun while chloe is being manipulated by yuuki and he knows it and doesn't act, just keeps on playing.. I like the anime but after reading this novel... well.. I just hope the anime made... more>> some changes this upcoming season 2 fix some plot holes.. <<less

It took a while before I got around to reading this. My general impression is that this by far the most Weekly Shounen Jump-esque battle story I've seen translate to text in a WN/LN. It's just one constant rise to power for Rimuru and his/her/its squad, the story moves at a fast pace and the enemies go as fast as they come. The power creep in this story is extreme and unreal, almost hitting Bleach levels of comical where something from a couple arcs ago is either utterly irrelevant or... more>> has reached new levels of power that would be impressive if everyone else wasn't doing it too.

To sum up, don't go into this expecting deep story, romance, ecchi or nuance. Go in expecting good guys vs bad guys, constant power ups and beat downs and a whole lot of companionship. <<less

It was really interesting Isekai back then when I read it in 2014.

Each of the character have unique personality and development, the world building is detailed but not perfect, the setting was rather good like naming a monsters, the story is solid but not too strong. Rather than spin off, this series seriously need a prequel or sequel to strengthen the series, a trilogy would be good.

I could sense a thrill and good vibe every time I read it. Nice sense of humour, lastly a good Isekai and totally worth... more>> to read. <<less

I've found out this title as a recommendation from google while browsing. I was really interested because not many MCs are slime to begin with LOL.

I've started it out first by watching the anime completely and was hooked. I can't get enough of it and that's why I read the novel and it was truly satisfying.

The story is really quite complete. There is not much hanging and the author really gave the MC and the side characters life. Even the magic and skills in the story is interesting. There were... more>> times I would say in my mind how I didn't think of that.

This novel is really a good read, I highly recommend it. <<less

Warning: I heard the LN is much better than the WN, the review only pertains to the WN.
Edit: The LN and Anime are far better than the WN

Pretty generic, waste of premise, tho might be coz I'm too old to enjoy these. Problem is not with having too many characters, but in not taking the time to develop said characters. There is a lot of growth in terms of power, but the execution is forceful. Basically, the MC is too OP, hence there is not enough room for growth... more>> in spirit (aside from 2 occasions). The execution of the anime is way better just by having emojis on the slime's face.

Spoiler

Aside where that one time, he was almost killed, now that was the best chapter due to the challenge, quick thinking, planning. Also, where his friends die, that had weight and impact on the plot.

[collapse]

I almost never say this, but this series should move slower, so that the characters and the MC can have more character development, meaningful challenges, and growth aside from power creep. <<less

I won't rank this novel - at least until I complete (leave as default) - but I'll write a review now because it is getting worse.

It is simple story about how MC get powers from left and right, overpowering everybody, granting unimaginable powers to his comrades.

My problem with that novel is that there is no feel of threat to the team of MC. I mean really. The longer you read the more you feel it. Author is trying to make a suspense and it worked but "full me once -... more>> shame on you, full me twice - shame on me". If somebody died on MC's side - he will be revived

Spoiler

Granted Rimuru can do that himself lol

[collapse]

His comrades will be much stronger, rivaling strongest powerhouses (not top 2 of course at least for now), MC's abilities will be enhanced, he will become stronger in no time, getting powers left and right. Strong characters pop left and right on MC's side while he is not even trying.

Spoiler

Of course he had his Great Sage which after evolving couple of times became truly a cheat.

[collapse]

First conflicts were decent, the latter it will more like

Spoiler

Oh somebody attacked - oh whatever, nobody will die anyway, MC will win anyway with little trying

[collapse]

Author's approach is more like nothing bad can happen to main cast <<less

It has a solid story, solid characters, solid world building, and solid op-ness

It's that kind of WN that stays in your heart doesn't matter what because of it's uniqueness

Now, we go to the bad part:

... more>> 1. Auth looks really confused to either make this wn adult or manga-friendly. He even make Shion immortal just cause. It hurts the drama part IMO.

2. It has the child like explanations on skill battles. Like: "NO WAY, MY SKILL CAN DESTROY EVERYTHING". "YOUR SKILL MIGHT BE ABLE TO DESTROY EVERYTHING, BUT MINE IS STRONGER!" "NO! MINE IS STRONGER!" "MINE IS!!", you got what I mean, right.

I won't comment on how the MC is soft heartened. I mean, c'mon guys, he dies while protecting someone he doesn't even know. Is that not heroic to you <<less

This novel was so good. All the way up until the whole yuki "tricks" the slime and becomes the ruler of heaven. What makes no sense is that the slime can think at light speed move at light speed and do a whole bunch of other stuff but he cant beat a almost ordinary human.

To me it felt like a cop out, I know that there has to be a heaven vs the world battle but it feels forced. What worse is that the slime was all gun ho about finishing this and brought a crew of demons that defeated army and couldn't stop this small 3 man group. I wanted to keep reading this but ill have to wait for the next arc cause im done with this hole yuki business.
I heard that the Light Novel had a change to this but in the end yuki becomes the ruler of heaven when he should have been taking out after the slime confronted him like teleport to him and wam/slash/bam job is done in all of 1 second.

The premises is good and it have lots of plot twist, unlike your ordinary expected turn of event.
Although it have too much of a happy-go-lucky vibe in it, it unexpectedly good. The main point of interest is the plot twist, not the struggle of MC.
Good read if I must say.

The downside is only the translation is so so so slow.

Updated Rating: 3.5 - 4 stars, Translation: 4/5

(My reviews may sound negative, but I'm just listing reasons why I didn't give 5 stars.)

[[5 star = almost all readers will enjoy. 4 star = large majority of readers will enjoy. 3 star = 50/50 of readers will enjoy. 2 star = a niche audience will enjoy. 1 star = maybe portion of niche audience will enjoy.]]

[[5/5 = Infrequent minor errors. 4/5 = Frequent minor errors or infrequent major errors, no difficulty to read. 3/5 = Frequent major errors,... more>> some difficulty to read. 2/5 = Difficult to read. 1/5 = Unreadable.]]

A virg*n salaryman is stabbed and dies when saving his coworker from a robber. As he dies, he hears a strange announcement voice giving him game-like abilities and titles (slightly overpowered) in response to his last thoughts. Then he reincarnates into a fantasy world as a lowly slime. The story features: Reincarnation as a slime, fantasy RPG world, demi-humans, demons, game-like magic/combat system, MC rapidly leveling up, kingdom-building. There is some flirting with female sidekicks, but no real romance.

The story interested me because the MC starts out as the weakest monster, but with the help of his main cheat abilities (absorbing skills from defeated monsters, inventory space, and sort of A.I. Assisted analysis), he rapidly powers up and gathers allies, eventually building his own monster kingdom. Various arcs center around his progression, challenges (which usually scales up with his power). It's fairly lighthearted, and MC makes friends with most people/monsters he meets. Some main issues I had was "jumping the shark" and the pacing, in the mid to late arcs. Sometimes, it felt like the author ran out of ideas, so then he took the story in some weird direction in an attempt to make it more interesting. Or maybe it seemed like the author wasn't sure how to end an arc or scene, so a climax might turn into deus ex machina explanation. These can feel out of place or confusing. For the pacing, MC levels up very fast. But then for the final few arcs, it seemed like the author slowed down a lot of the combat. It felt like DBZ: too much talking and narration and not a lot of new ideas. Some minor issues: There are a lot of sidekicks. Some appear out of nowhere with no origin story. I often forget who some of them are. There's no romance or harem, even though the author makes a point to describe how attractive the female subordinates are.

Initially, I gave this a 4-4.5 stars on my scale, because I thought a very large majority of readers would enjoy this series. Toward the end, I think those 2 big issues I mentioned might turn off some readers. But most readers who have been following this story until the final arcs probably would keep reading until the end. So I slightly reduced the rating to 3.5-4: still a significant majority might enjoy this series.

Other: This is the WN. I heard the LN has some significant changes, but the LN translation is way behind the WN translation. There are 250 chapters, and it's almost over at chapter 207, at the time of this updated review. <<less

The story of this LN was rather interesting, but as always with LN... it got worse. I won't this is true for all LN, however it really kind of is for the most part. Most people believe the beginning was good, but sadly it really wasn't. Don't get me wrong it was entertaining, sadly to call it well-written it would be an understatement.

Spoiler

One thing that became sadly obvious is that halfway through the story, Rimuru and the author became the same person. The story would be twisted to suit Rimuru and the plot. The weak lvl of danger became almost non-existent, s*upid power-ups started to become norm and characters became overall worst. Things just got worst. The things that made the characters and the story a decent read such as exploration, adventure or character development were just gone. The MC became passive, and became all-knowing for some reason.

Ultimately, the story became a fluffy (although all the people the MC kills would disagree), interesting (piece of tr*sh) couple of misadventures designed to pander to fans instead of a decent story.

[collapse]

The things that make no sense are the marriage between Benimaru and that bit*h momiji. The way Yuuki got his s*upidly forced power-up. Lastly, everything with that hax wisdom raphael ability, which has too many offenses to be counted. <<less

MC is not your typical OP MC from other novels. If I would say the progression of the character development would be like overlord. Our lovely slime character starts off as an innocent slime trying to survive. He meets so e friends throughout his journey and thus wanting to protect them he made a town which grew and grew till it became a country. IP coming demon lord tried to destroy the city but failed since the MC fought hard. After that human greed initiated a war with the town... more>> which led to the MC becoming the new demon lord. Thus starts the journey of this innocent looking slime to be a God. <<less

Good story, it's not cliche like other reincarnation novel. Though it gets more and more complicated and nonsensical later on. The Author just pulled out random words from his ass to make the MC and the Crews more OP. But still, overall it's enjoyable. The world building is superb in this novel. Definitely must read.

like the story and it has good action. MC is op and his developing is interesting. I would give it 5 but since MC is kinda impotent (he is a slime so he can’t even get erection lol) I’ll give it 4. I don’t get why some japanese authors love making their MCs so that they are too dumb, too dense, too shy or physically incapable to have s*x. though there are some exceptions such as arifureta, re:monster or death march... but most are not. if the point is to... more>> make us laugh..... it does not work for me.... it just makes me feel that MC is weird. <<less

Had finished reading the WN (translated and japanese) and satisfied with the ending. Not a bad end. Don’t worry. Really enjoyed reading this! Rimuru the slime is among the best characters in many works I enjoyed so far. He’s op, does not like to show up, clever and cunning and well respected. I love how he change the world by his action intentionally or unintentionally and also the fact people who does not know him look down on him since he is a slime only to be regret after.

this series has made me laugh out loud, I've found it really hard to stiffle my giggles. it has been a pleasant surprise, it has several elements that can’t be predicted. I've read up to ch. 114, and thus far I can say:

the chapters are longish, it has only few side stories. I think that this web novel has accomplished way more than some others in terms of quality, plot line, character development, and fun instances.

i can’t recall an uneventful chapter except one amongst the first ones. the only thing... more>> I don’t find pleasant, is the retelling of some scenes from diferent points of view, but that’s a thing I dislike in general, so maybe that’s just me. Then again, maybe that was fixed or improved in the LN, but I don’t really know. Also, this ‘multiretelling’ of the same thing quites down to some extent in further chapters, and becomes less annoying by the infuse of humour caused by the divergence of the points of views, which is something not all authors manage to do skillfully. the sudden change of POV is weird sometimes too, but it does not occurr often, and the translators often point them out. i’m not going to rate the quality of the translation, for I think this doesn’t have anything to do with the author’s real work. I’m simply glad I can read this for free. The quality improves by a real lot, however, beyond the first chapters. (And I was just lazy to search for alternate, better translation, maybe there is one already xD)

please look forward to this work! Become a fellow fan! Follow the slime!!

PS: I first rated it from my mobile, and the derp thing can't tell the stars apart and rated it 3 instead of 5 ;n; fixed it now. <<less

Summary: A very bare bones Isekai novel that happened to get immensely overrated due to a decent anime adaptation

MC: A supposedly 30+ years old salaryman who gets reincarnated. He is an actual man child and while he isn't utterly s*upid, he does make lots of bad decisions. His character isn't anything special or even particularly entertaining. He gets everything handed to him on a silver platter

SCs: They're serviceable but rather bland. Some of them are just outright intolerable like Shion who exists purely for shitty jokes and gags but most... more>> are perfectly fine.

Action: Good but nothing particularly outstanding

Setting: Miserable. The world is a classic isekai but the power scaling is just-. They go from blowing up rocks to blowing up multiverses somehow. The conditions for becoming powerful are so easy to achieve when the MC does it and yet nobody else seems to be able to do it.

In short, it's a decent Isekai for passing the time. You should ignore the children saying its peak but don't write it off as 'bad' instantly. <<less
