Cannon Fodder Fake Master Was Stunned After Being Reborn

It was only after Jian Xingsui’s death that he realized that he was the cannon fodder in a book with a dog-blooded plot. He was a dumb and s*upid fake young master in it.

In the book, he was reluctant to return to his poor ”biological” parents. He was greedy of the Jian Family’s wealth and also wanted to suppress the protagonist shou of the book, the real young master. With the tricks that he had personally thought out in his pig-headed brain, he finally succeeded in annoying the hell out of everyone in the family:

His CEO former eldest brother: “I don’t have a younger brother like you.”

His celebrity former second brother: “Never mention to anyone in the entertainment industry that I used to be your brother!!!”

His former father: “Get out, I’m so disappointed in you.”

After that, he was kicked out of the house and had a terrible ending.

After he was reborn, when it was the day when the protagonist shou came up to his door, instead of waiting for his family to talk to him, he took the initiative: “You guys won’t have to say anything, I am willing to leave the house!”

Not long after returning home, his poor “biological” parents said: We’re sorry, you don’t seem to be our own child.

Jian Xingsui: ??

Later, the top wealthy family, the Shen family, finally found their young master who had been separated from them for many years. The whole family rejoiced and could not wait to make up for everything to this child:

His CEO biological eldest brother: “Is this 50 million pocket money enough for you?”

His celebrity biological second brother: “You can casually choose any one of these scripts.”

His biological parents: “Suisui is really our pride!”

When the people of the Jian family finally remembered the poor kid who had been kicked out and wanted to give him some compensation, they found out that the new, praised by everyone, rising celebrity in the entertainment industry seemed to be their s*upid and annoying child…

I just found this incredibly boring. After the singing competition finished and the MC was reunited with his real family, I lost the little remaining interest I had left for this. The ML is annoyingly perfect and the MC has a boring, babyish personality that I just don't vibe with unfortunately. So, I dropped it almost halfway through.

Far better than expected!

MC grew up in a rich family. Unfortunately the atmosphere in that family is rather poisonous and his treatment is not exactly good. When they found out, that he is not their blood and got switched at birth, everything is going downhill. Constantly fighting for their acceptance and love he is burning out himself and finding an early death.

Then MC got reborn to a time where his "father" wants to throw him out. Last life, he persisted and stayed in the family. This time he decided... more>> to leave and try his luck with his "true" family and stay out of the "worlds protagonist" way. His new family is not really accepting him and missing their "perfect " son. Problems keep pulling up... until he met his "Starlight"..

Won't spoiler more of the story. So MC is in a rather down mode at the beginning. He has no real plan for his life and just takes it from day to day. His character at first, seems to be a bit bad. But throughout the story he is getting "better". He starts to working hard and basically only persists through his idols words at first but his own self perception is changing too. I did like this underlying character change, though it is more a look from another angle. He was so used to being "bad/ wrong" that he never realized, it never was him.

It is a tale of how your surroundings can emphasize or diminish some of your personality.

The relationship between MC and ML is progressing slowly. ML is his idol, an singer and actor on the heights of his stardom. So first, it is the awe before his idol, becoming friends, becoming more. While MC is obviously drawing the short one here, I like that ML is never using his status as his beloved idol, to force him to anything. ML is the cold but super doting type.

On the down side of this novel, there are some inconsistencies. For example, the age and age differences seem to change here and there. Also, the relationship between their mothers baffled me...I can't pin down if MLs mom or birth mother is best friends with MCs mother. It's just strange.

Also it gets a bit spoilers what happened after MCs death in the first life but it only leaves me with questions, that never get an answer. QAQ

One reviewer complained about a paternity test, that never was mentioned again. I think, the writer didn't put it down explicitly anymore because earlier they mentioned that the name change is only possible with a positive paternity test and MCs name got changed shortly after. Also it might be a part of the flow, cause they "just knew they are family".

Some times this story was rather 2d but sometimes it surprised with unexpected depths.

The side character are OK.

All in all.. this novel was far better than I expected and entertained me greatly. It is on the lighter side and ML becomes somewhat of a Garry Stu, so you should like this. If you are generally looking for a deeper story and fully fleshed out world building, then you might want to move on. <<less

I loved it so much! I MTL the rest which is quite easy to read. When it is fully translated, I will reread it.

The MC is so precious. I feel so much heartache for him, esp how his past life makes him have low self-esteem and always think of others while ignoring his own pains. He believes that his future will be alone with no one by his side. I cried a few times.

The MC and ML are so sweet. The ML is so doting on the MC. Even before... more>> they are officially together, the ML won't let the MC suffer. He also teaches/help him many things including his inferiority. At the same time, the MC blinding trust/admiration is so precious. I love their relationship.

As for the MC's real family, I love them so much. I want to say a few more about them but I don't want to spoil it.

When the MC joins the group survival show, some of the parts are quite realistic which makes me immerse into the story more. Also, when the results are out+MC and his friends' reactions make me cry again.

There are more things I want to say but I don't want to reveal too much. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!! <<less

I love the story since it started with MC, being a cannon fodder was in dire situation and the story ended in a fluff. It is not perfect so they maybe some plot holes due to lack of information. The MC in first life is impulsive yet he's not really s*upid in 2nd life. The author should write more about the Character development. It was only written that MC suffered depression and inferiority complex in first life, and some tidbits of MC's past in the latter half. Unfortunately, the story... more>> went downhill near the end 😅 will drop

I want to agree and disagree with some readers.
1. Disagree with mess plot. The MC was spoiled financially in the 1st life and never got the love of the family he wanted and it was a crux that made him lose his confidence.
2. Agree with some disjoint characterization of MC. As a spoiled brat, his confidence shouldn't be that really low. It might be due to him giving up to his fate as passerby but as yrs of his being spoiled, there should be some scenes that support this characterization. Some spoilers below. I would like negate some comments
Spoiler

1. An Ran didn't really end with the ML in first life, but married someone else.

2. MC died first than AnRan (1st life)

3. ML begun to alienate AnRan when he saw the things xingsui (MC) left in the Jian house. Those are probably the things of the fan that encouraged the ML when he was having difficulties

Honestly not that bad at all, considering some similar stories I have read. I actually think some of the side characters are a highlight, so I have to give the author props for not just focusing on the leads. But I can’t say I loved this, because truthfully the MC is just really not my kinda character. And again I have this problem with this danmei (and some others) where I just don’t think the villains are very threatening, and therefore I don’t feel anything about the triumphs of... more>> the leads when they succeed. <<less

i was confused about their ages the whole time, lmao. But once I decided to just ignore the timeline and focus on the interaction between the characters it was a very nice read. There were a lot of inconsistencies but once you get over those, you will enjoy it. The shen family is cute, I just have to put it out there and the extra with the photo from the amus**ent park was genius. I'm also happy that it was implied the male lead didn't really marry the young master... more>> in the past life but actually distanced himself when he realized the young master manipulated some details of their interactions. The first arc is the best. Both in terms of plot, MC's growth and the antagonists.
I did get bored in the middle and it became rather difficult to finish. Overall, I really like the MC, there are just some problems with the novel's progression.

Main issue is the MC and the main antagonist's character, and how it evolved and then devolved with each new arc.

We know the MC is reborn, and in the first life he fought for favour, faced a lot of ugliness and hypocrisy and then died. While... more>> all this is reflected in MC's behaviour in a very realistic way in his insecurities, his naivety doesn't make any sense. He died. He was schemed against heavily and faced a lot of hatred and accusations: and yet there are multiple times that MC is trapped by very basic plots he should've seen coming a mile away. There's this odd inconsistency, where MC has some after effects of his first life, but doesn't have the other logical affects and his IQ randomly vanishes. If he had died very early then his 'simple and s*upid' persona would make more sense, but the backstory is clear that he did fight in his first life. He lost, but that experience should still matter.

The antagonist faces the same problem. Not to go into spoilers about the first life, but at times he also behaves inconsistently with the experience he should've had. It's like he behaves juuuust enough smartly that he can do little things, but gets s*upidly caught and schemed against immediately after. And considering he lived longer than MC and understands the evil side of the industry much better, it ends up making him a boring antagonist after the first arc. His showing up causes no urgency, because it's obvious he never succeeds even slightly.

The ML is too strong. MC barely has to do a thing after the first arc.

s*upid Shen family plot holes.

MC's skills and dreams are about music. And yet majority of the chapters are about his participating in reality shows where the ML is always there. His music skills do show up, but it should be center stage of his plot and growth, not a side skill he uses. It's not until the last arcs that his actual dream comes back to center stage. And yet last arc is once again him acting, obviously beside ML. And his greatest achievement.... winning Best Actor. Bruh.

Major plot point of antogonist being the 'favoured son of heaven' and his halo being reduced, and MC being seen as himself and the mysterious 'vicious canon fodder aura' vanishing... vanishes. Who knows what all that was about. Some impossible 'coincidences' cleared the biggest road blocks for the MC. Originally I thought it was the protagonist halo reversing, and some sort of overarching plot... I thought too much 😑

Basically, interesting emotional concept, some ideas were good, ML's issues and backstory was also well done, MC deserved all the hugs. But the bad points and plot holes truly dragged the story down. <<less

I can't tell you what I liked about this story, just that I've read worse but also definitely read better.

I tried very hard to enjoy this novel, but the lackluster plot and characterization made it so difficult to enjoy. There was just too many clumsy elements in the execution of the novel that made it feel so unpolished.

One of the biggest weakness of the story are the characters. To begin with, the sense of morality of the characters is just too skewed, that is, all the good guys like and... more>> favor MC and everyone who doesn't like him are obviously bad guys with susceptible morals. I had to suspend more than the usual amount of braincells that I already suspend when I'm reading these types of novels. It made the characters so predictable and boring.

All the bad guys seem to wake up in the morning with the sole purpose of trying and failing to make MC's life miserable. They feel too dumb to have accomplished the success that they supposedly established before the face-slapping. Like they were only set up so high just to make the fall more impactful. Only, they are all just so irrational it's difficult to imagine them capable of actually making a smart decison in their entire life.

The MC also goes from being a clumsy and temperamental rich boy to a clueless Mother Theresa who had no faults, ever, because everything he did before was not actually bad, but bad enough to not have gained him any real and loyal friends or any lasting affection from his former family.

The ML is supposedly a black belly, but basically singlehandedly creates the whole scandal that one-sidedly turns the whole internet against his little lover. Everytime he's actually about to make an actually good, reasonable, dare I say it, smart choice in regards to his relationship with the MC, he lets his ego and pride take over and does what he like, creating problems for the MC's image and public opinion. It's like he has no understandimg of their difference in power and influence. I dislike supposedly smart characters who are actually just empty-headed morons.

The writing of the setting and the set-up of the entertainment industry is also written so poorly. Rather than polished media work, the overuse of live streaming made the industry in this novel feel so cheap and pedestrian. I was half expecting for the movie they were filming to be live streamed as well, lol. Case on point, most of the plot is basically just PD 101 and Running Man, but livestream, which would obviously not fly with any production team or celebrity worth their professionalism. They seem to treat ALL celebrities with the same commodified double-standard usually only reserved for idols.

Watching the MC and ML engage in romance was like watching two wet cardboard try to make out. Their dynamic just didn't work for me. One is a die-hard fan who appreciates and respects all the hardwork of his stan, and the other is a celebrity who likes being appreciated and idolized by his fan??? The ML's only reason to have fallen for him is that MC is cute and simple-minded and isn't hugging his thighs. The bar is so low he could have gotten the same sentiment from a dog.

I feel dumber than when I first started reading this. <<less

I have to say that this novel is amazing and I am definitely a fan. It combines many of the themes I like: swapping children, second chances, recovering from trauma. The author has created an engaging story that stirs emotions.
Unfortunately, the flaws here are as obvious as the pros. The relationship between MC and ML feels forced to me. I don't feel any chemistry between them. MC at all times sees ML as a fan of his idol, not a human being. ML isn't particularly devoted to him either,... more>> because he hasn't really done anything great for him, and his verbal pushing of MC in some direction in the normal world would have hurt him (Spoiler:
Spoiler

after he left the program, he couldn't even afford a place to stay and would have slept on the street if not for a friend from the program. The agency
also only took up with him after Shen's family intervened. He published a photo of a bracelet from the MC, which led to heckling from his fans and he still remained passive

[collapse]
).

Actually, ML is not a character I dislike, I just don't like him as a love object, and the whole romance plot usually bored me. I would have preferred more scenes in which the main character's previous family suffers, because it wasn't particularly satisfying.

MC is also not of the kind I give my heart to. Fluffy white rabbit. Rather, he's dumb, terrified (although that's in keeping with his experiences) and enervated by his idol. He has flashes when he's fighting for himself and really cheers for him then. I like this side of his personality, which, although wounded, is still strong. Unfortunately, in Fu's presence, he turns into a fan that is brain-dead. This is not cool and spoils this character in my eyes.

Nevertheless, I really recommend this story. Especially the first half, where these flaws are not so glaring in the eyes. <<less

This book was pretty fun but brainless. I agree with what everyone else said regarding how the qualities of the first half of the story is better than the last half. I found the non-main story extras pretty cute, but otherwise, the end was a bit brainless and mindlessly fluffy.

There's a huge change in the character of the MC from what you expect. He's depicted as rebellious and unreconciled in his first life, beaten down and unloved during the first bit of his rebirth, but towards he end, he's converted... more>> into a nauseating, helpless white lotus. I failed to see the progression of continuity between any of these personalities. It doesn't really feel like even the same person.

Then there's the ml. He's very stereotypical - a prince-to-the-rescue, cold-to-everyone, perfect-but-with-scars-only-the-mc-can-heal. He's so prefect, but it's slowly revealed how much he struggled and how the MC (unknowing to the ml) was there for him every time he struggled. The confusing part is that the ML falls in love with the MC without knowing about all his support. It feels like he just falls for the MC because he is a fan and cute. If that's the case, shouldn't be have fallen for another fan much earlier?

Despite these issues, I thought the novel was very cute. It drew me in at the beginning, and the end had just enough acton so that I didn't get too bored from the lily white MC. <<less

I have to say the first part of the story before it’s known that MC is the Shen’s son is quite enjoyable.

After that I feel like everyone suddenly doesn’t have brain or anything. Especially the Shen family. I might be missing something but

I keep waiting and waiting and yet where is the blood test result? not to mention that how can it be so “coincidence” for the Shen family to notice that MC is their lost son?

As if it’s not enough, I have no idea how’s the trading work?

shen’s son —> went to mc’s adopted —> mc’s adopted goes to the Jian? —> jian’s kid go to shen’s family

That’s like so much effort... Also I notice the author has a thing for Jiang’s surname. Not to mention that most of the names makes me recall of mxtx (esp mdzs)

Anyway, I can’t seem to like this even after I’ve tried to finish everything so yeah. <<less

Too many loophole the most critical is tuya Charactee design, 1st time meeting only speak germany (if I don't remember wrong), and next time speak proper mandarin, so how could someone already understand chinese within 1 min?. And the way the author mention abt being eliminated, the number told is dubious. And when the story is abt elimination progress from 52 to 16 suddenly it became elimination from 16 to 6 like, what did I miss?. Reading this feel like time travelling. Suddenly goes to future. And the 1st time... more>> I read abt JXS agent I think he is good person, cause he still giving a job to JXS even when he know JXS got kicked out, but the next the agent became a money loving villain. The difference between character setting is too much. Typical mary sue novel but because I come here for healing after reading angst hence 4 stars, recommended, good for healing. <<less

The only thing is about MC personality in his previous life. So, did he bullied the protagonist shou or not? Or was just the protagonist slandering him? Anyway, his personality doesn't seem to belong to a past bully.

Honestly... I expected more from the MC. He is too stupdly naive for someone reborn. And everytime he interacts with the super OP ml... his IQ seems to fall further.

I also see no reason for the antagonist to have been reborn too... and for him to not notice that there's something "wrong" with the MC. But that and his white lotus sheet aside... I do like him more as a reborn than the MC. Simply because he is smarter than him and actually tries to get what he wants.

My biggest... more>> complaint is really the mc's personality. He is dumb, silly, naive, shy, cowardly and his good points being considerate and hard working... and a "musical genius".

I hate the kind of story where the MC depends on the ML for everything. And this is one of those. If it wasn't for the ML this MC would've beem offed by the antagonist before the half of the novel.

Also...

Spoiler

His capabilities and personality are a big mismatch with his real family and he makes 0 effort to fix this. He is just... shy shy shy and pampered pampered pampered and it gets annoying. Even his worship of the ML gets tiring. No matter how close their families are, how close they get, how their relationship changes... he keeps being shy and it feels like theres a distance between them that never closes because he keeps acting like he is frigging inferior to him.

[collapse]

I honestly don't know how I'm able to get to this point without dropping it... actually I know. It's because of his brother and my curiosity on why he hates that teammate when that dude seems to kinda like him.. and my expectations that they'll end up together... yeah... nothing about it... the end was cute... but kinda meh too...

The mais couple? Meh... it's the same old wronged pure white lotus × OP boss super capable charming prince that we're all dead tired of. <<less

I enjoyed it! Overall, even though there's obvious flaws that could be better, I decided to give this a 5* bc I enjoyed reading the novel. The antagonists return-pace is very good (i.e. coming back to cause troubles), romance-line flirting very consistent, although there are obvious flaws my overall reading experience was positive, and it exceeds the flaws of this novel (for me) -- but I can understand if that's not the case for everyone.

The best way I can try to talk about this is - if you enjoy the... more>> CP dynamic, then you would probably enjoy the novel (?) The main plot and development of the story here is the emotional-line. I think it's also because -- this novel seems a little immature for the author, who's other works are quite fine. But in this one, it's very ambiguous whether this is heavily work-focused or romance-focused. There was an attempt to straddle the line between the two -- but I think it works better if you come into this novel liking the CP dynamic, and not focusing so much on the work part lol.

Even though it may not seem important, it's gonna save you a lot of heart/frustration with this novel because of how hm. inconsistent the work-line aspect is. The work-line plot relies heavily on the variety show arcs, there are three main meats (big seasons) that are like cornerstones in the novel. There are moments where it's just about these plots, it's --- the best way I can help you through is to say 'just focus on the romance, don't look at it/just enjoy the ride if you can' lmao. There's also a lot of fillers in between, but basically these are the main "meat" of the work-line, so don't expect much other activities/climbing up the ropes here.

In terms of quality of work-line content, work-line is very very loose. Sadly, for both the main and side-characters - which is a shame. What I mean is, there's no trajectory to their career that's as clear as others. It seems very superficial, the MC continues to make music behind the scenes for others. Being a producer, not really an idol. He doesn't make an album, doesn't hold concerts, tours, etc. He's simply just... doing his thing lol. The ML's work is even more obscure, he seems to be an actor/singer when he was young. But it's all very muddy and unclear. Even those who were in the same 'debut group' doesn't seem to have any group activities -- so you can see... it's a little disappointing, but it's fine. This is not a work-line story/drama anyways....

Anyways, although the MC is very very white lotus (which might not appeal to everyone) -- I think it's done to the degree that I can accept it if it's with the ML. So I quite like this novel. The face slaps aren't vicious or quick enough, but that's very subjective and is a personal preference. It has all the elements including warning for (cw/tw warnings below:)

Spoiler

attempted r*pe (not by ML, but in the later arc of the novel. In a mansion, on a rainy night, lol) drugging the MC (see former) -- so if you're queasy with this subject, just be warned. It doesn't actually happen, but I understand that this subject can be sensitive for other people, so just a heads up in case. It's fine though, the ML came to rescue him and nothing happen, it's not very insidious, just very badly planned by the antagonist.

[collapse]

To me, this novel really isn't that bad compared to others I've read that are more one-note. Although it has it's short comings, I find the overall experience pleasant and nice. I would recommend it, but also I've just come off reading 2 unlimited flow horror stories in a row, and desperately needed a light-hearted entertainment novel. So. My evaluation may be biased, but I think hey at least it didn't leave me feeling dissatisfied. So it's still quite good in my book!

Overall, I really really wish there's a continuation or sequel for the secondary pairing... mainly the MC's brother (real) and his nemesis... I really want to know what happened to them, and they seem like characters I'd enjoy reading as the main couple as well... <<less

I love Zhi Tang's novels, and this one was really good as well. It has a lot of face slapping, showbiz, and of course the usual 'fake master vs true master' swapped at birth trope.

It's a bit of a cliche in this genre, but the story is fun, and it's by no means as bad as another review makes it to be. Obviously it's not Shakespeare, but if you like this trope/genre, it's a welcome addition by a really great author.

My favorite thing about this book was the MC and the shen family, they were very cute so I'll give it 3 stars

However I didn't really like a lot of the plot.

First of all, the ML appeared from like the first or second chapters and literally never left after that he was always somehow in the narrative which was strange since this is the MCs story and then he suddenly fell for the MC for no apparent reason except that he defended him (ml) to some black fans. His interest... more>> was strange and unwarranted, also he was with anran in the previous life and loved everything about that fake green tea so the fact that he all of a sudden fell for the MC in this life felt like the author was forcefully trying to make him the love interest and make the romance plot advance. I feel like for the most part of the book the MC just liked him as a fan likes an idol so imo the ML should have been someone else closer in age to MC and this FJ guy remained as a cool mentor /idol tbh.

My next gripe with the ML is the power dynamics in their relationship plus the age gap, it made me uncomfortable the whole time ngl. Also the strange scene of when the MC met the MLs mother for the first time and she was already giving him a family heirloom meant specifically for the brides of the family and basically planning his marriage to her son was strange as all hell especially because MCs mom who literally just got her long lost son back seemed to be going along with it. Like the dude is so young why should he be getting married?!

Anyway, it's not a bad book to pass the time I guess.

Enjoy. <<less

This was such a hidden gem!

Am always avoiding low rated stories but went into this purely by faith and am so glad I did.

The sweetness was real, the cuteness too real and the face slapping?! Just amazing. Wish the MC didn't have to go through all that hardship but so glad he had a HE!

Just one question? Whatever happened to the fake dad who was sick?! Curious 🧐
