Lin Xinghe, who used to be the villain of a Mary Sue novel, received an acceptance letter from the Modern Era Department of the Villain School.

On the first day of school, her deskmate told her-

“Every new villain that comes here thinks that they’re f*cking amazing. At best, Modern villains like us know how to earn money through mu*der and cause trouble for the male and female leads.”

“Whatever you do, don’t provoke the Western Fantasy Department. Before coming here to reform, those big brothers would wipe out half the world with a snap of their fingers.”

“Also, don’t hang out with students from the Ancient Era Department. Those villains are always conspiring to overthrow the throne and become principal.”

“And you absolutely cannot have any fantasies about the Xian Xia Department’s grass, Xie Wuan! That! Guy! Is! A! Big! Pe*vert!” (1)

Soon after.

Lin Xinghe’s deskmate saw the big brother from the Fantasy Department using his fire magic to dry clothes for Lin Xinghe. The big brother from the Ancient Era Department had Lin Xinghe’s cat lying on his shoulder and the grass of the Xian Xia Department was placing vegetables into Lin Xinghe’s bowl.

Lin Xinghe’s deskmate: …

it is kind of scary leaving this review when there are so many 5-star ratings and reviews so please be kind! this novel has its merits (evidence: the sheer number of 5 stars). but I want to share why I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I hoped.

if you are reading this review, it's probably because you want a contrasting opinion, so here:

Spoiler

the "villain school" setting of the novel offers many opportunities for fleshing out the myriad of "villainous" character profiles (e.g., their different personalities, motivations for being a villain, backstories etc.). unfortunately, the novel dodges that. at the end of the novel, the author tries to explain why it never expounded on that

Spoiler

because none of them are actually villains, wow! I totally did not expect that! (sarcasm)

[collapse]

the key problem is that, for something to be considered a (successful) plot-twist, the following is required: the book has to sell you a premise through its storytelling. the reader must have adequate belief in it. only then, can you overturn a belief and call it a plot-twist. what this means is that despite the fancy conclusion of the novel, the beginning of the text must deliver on the premise. in the context of this novel, convince me that this is a villain school, convince me that the characters (not just the cannon fodders) are villainous! for this, I am mainly referring to the supporting cast

Spoiler

i.e., fu zhou, jiuge, gu taoyao, qi qing. strangely, it is the ML that has rather "villain" tendencies, like when he decided to mu*der the mermaids and rule through force. even more strangely, he is supposed to be awakened at that time so hmm... is he supposed to be a villain through & through or not?

[collapse]

Spoiler

side note: I understand the struggles of the author. they wanted to play with the innovative setting in which the main characters are supposed to be villains but are actually set up by a third party to identify as one. this means that first, they have to sell you the idea that these are villains then convince you that they are not inherently evil, are redeemable and overall, characters that you should root for. it takes mastery over characterisation and plot to be able to do this seamlessly. understandably, it is a very difficult task.

[collapse]

the worst (& related) flaw of the novel is its severe lack of characterisation and character development. the supporting characters are lacking in personality and individual thought. people in the real world have thoughts and feelings, they have motivations and fears.

Spoiler

although the characters' lives are at stake, there is no tension, no fear, no thoughts at all - they just follow the MC :) hey, it is alright to follow the MC, but what are your thoughts? what are your emotions? you decided to trust in a villain you met and put your life in their hands - is such trust justified given your character settings? why or why not? the problem is that the characters are too flat to give any meaningful answers to these questions.

[collapse]

lastly, I came here via the "unlimited flow" tag. if you came here because of that, I can assure you that you are not missing out on the gems of the unlimited flow genre if you skipped this novel. the main allure of unlimited flow novels is its plot, ingenuity and control over the tone of the text (i.e., tension, apprehension, fear). if you are looking for those qualities, go next.

[collapse]

but let me tell you what I did like about the novel, which is xiaopu. I think other readers will agree that we need more xiaopu moments!!

Spoiler

so much missed opportunity here. xiaopu is the most interesting character in this novel to me. MC betrayed him and led to the death of himself and his kind. hey, this is a setting that in other novels, will lead him to be a blackened mega boss who seeks revenge. but! he doesn't. then as xiao zang, he decides to follow and protect MC (despite the happenings of the previous world) and gift her right at the end. wished we could have gotten an extra from his pov on why he forgives MC and an exploration of the complexity of emotions he has towards MC

mind blowing gem, thank you so much for digging such a treasure. The description is quite deceptive, I almost removed this one away because I thought this is gonna be a typical no-logic romance. BUT IT'S DEFINITELY NOT OH MY GOSH?? I love how comments are just agreeing with how good this novel is.

every examination room is an escape room, I feel like I also went with Lin Xinghe. The way the story slowly uncovered, it was really exciting. The ending wasn't abrupt, the novel conveyed all my doubts before.... more>> However, I would like to request for special chapter for comrade xiaopu : ( ((

he is so precious. The yakult scene? That literally lingered on my mind the whole day. I wouldn't want to say that he is a second male lead, because it was simply a priceless friendship he shared with Lin Xinghe. I love this novel so much, nothing can probably replace this in my heart. I hope this got some physical English translate book, because I will definitely rush to buy it. Such a treasure, I'm afraid I cant find any novels similar to this. <<less

Cute novel, although don't except too much romance. What little romance there was was really cute. I loved the end CP, although there were many possible CPs that characters kept pairing our MC up with.

The summary for this novel is a bit misleading. MC is admitted to a villain school but spends maybe a total of like 10 chapters actually in school. The rest of the time is spent in "examination rooms" that kind of remind be of escape room games, where you have to solve the problem to escape... more>> the room. MC is originally a small actor but she tackles the problems with ease and a calm that does not make sense in the beginning, but then it is revealed that
Spoiler

she is actually an undercover agent who had her memories wiped and her mission is to take down the principle and release everyone from the villain school. Each escape/exam room is different and honestly are some of the most unique settings I have ever read. A lot of quick trans novels will have you typical imperial harem setting or zombie apocalypse and business world setting, but in this novel the only familiar setting was the zombie apocalypse one. Novel exam rooms includes giant mutant cat rulers and humans are considered the pets, or on a cruise with mu*derous ghost and sea giants, a a giant hair ball monster terrorising society that it causes everyone to go bald.

[collapse]

MC and ML are cuteeee. ML is typical ice burg but his inner thoughts are so cute and so incongruent with his cold exterior. Wish there was more fluff or maybe a kiss, but I'll have to settle for their family of 3 eating hotpot in each exam room. <<less

Don't go into this thinking it's some sort of a shoujo adventure romance. Don't get confused by the cute-sounding summary.

It is, no doubt, a survival game.

It's very rare for a unlimited cycle/ death cycle/ horror game novel to have a female protagonist. And this one manages to be both comedic and thrilling at the same time.

The MC is kinda like the MCs from My Disciple Died Yet Again, My Dad Is the Galaxy’s Prince Charming etc. She is super smart, very calm and has OP luck. This MC is the... more>> sort of MLM recruiter who can scam millions off millions lol. The biggest ability of humans is to communicate and MC uses this to the best of her highest EQ-ability to clear exams along with others. I absolutely loved it.

Highly recommended <<less

What a delightful read this story was!

Loosely described, this story is a comedic approach to an infinite flow novel with a charming and witty female protagonist at the helm. Each of the "exam rooms" the protagonist is placed in has an interesting set up and the ways that she chooses to complete the exam is highly unpredictable and clever. The settings of the exam rooms that the protagonist goes to include (not in actual order: ... more>>
Spoiler

1) Seemingly ordinary world with a snow woman villain 2) World split between mermaids, humans and robots 3) Zombie world 4) Xianxia world 5) World where giant mutated cats are the supreme ruler 5) Modern world with ghosts 6) Modern world with a serial killer and a demon attacking those who aren't bald at night (lol I can't even make this up) 7) Cruise ship with ghosts and sea demons. I might've left some out so don't hate me >.<

[collapse]

The author does a good job foreshadowing the larger overarching storyline of how the so-called "villain school" came to be and why the students are gathered here and forced to take exams.

Though the story isn't too heavy on the romance I love our eccentric and tsundere ML to bits lol. I loved that the FL gained the ability to hear his inner thoughts early on in the story which prevented any s*upid misunderstandings between them.
Spoiler

I love how his internal monologues regarding the FL basically went from "She's interesting. I want to make her a puppet" to "Omg my infallible charm has done it again. She's in love with me. I gotta let her down gently" to "Huh she's actually really pretty and nice and cool... " to "Wtf she wasn't actually in love with me??? : (" then finally "How can I get this girl to acknowledge/love me?"

[collapse]
I also loved that literally everyone was shipping the two together and that they adopted a pseudo daughter together. The other side characters are pretty funny too.

Overall, this story adds a fresh twist to the infinite flow genre and I wished more authors would take a lighthearted approach as well so we can get more variety in our stories. Infinite flow doesn't always have to equal doom and gloom right? <<less

It's more like a 2.5 instead of 2 stars.

The Good:

  • One of the better novels in the Mary sue genre.
  • Has a harem tag
  • Surprisingly each story arc is well-written. Plot holes are eventually filled in.
The Bad:

  • The MC's 'luck' is a huge huge protagonist halo. As in, things always goes her way and nothing feels challenging for the MC. This makes the story feel a little bland because there are no actual problems.
  • I had to double check and see if that 'Reverse harem' tag was actually there because there's almost no romance. MC just does something and everyone wants to be on her good side.
The characters are all a little shallow. It's similar to what some other reviews say, where it's good but nothing stands out. You have a bunch of characters with... more>> 'amazing' backgrounds and accomplishments but as soon as the MC appears, they can't think for themselves and follow whatever the MC says while 'looking on in amazement'. It's also a little annoying that some friendships/relationships with the MC have the potential to be deep and meaningful but they quickly feel shallow because it's a pattern of

MC helping them with a problem > Person is grateful > MC wants them to help her and butters then up with inspiring/sweet words > person becomes her helper/lapdog and we rarely see them again until the MC needs their help again.

Of course, this is a Mary sue novel and people love all these things when they like that genre, so they'll probably rate this higher than me. Maybe if I was a diehard fan of Mary sue novels, I'd give this a 4?

Personally, I just wish the characters had more substance and the MC faced better challenges instead of having everything handed to her. <<less

Simply mindblowing. My world's view seemed to have just taken a roller coaster ride😍

Firstly, thank you to the translator team who introduces this novel. Then, to dear author, you are so amazing and a genius to be able to write this interesting, very mindblowing story! My only complaint is just that the ending scene is too short lol xD *light a candle for the snake & the refrigator guy* lol

Spoiler

and to answer other' reviewer, Celine isn't MC. It's the 'daughter' or the one named 'Xiao Xue Ji' *cmiiw for the spelling*

Tbh, it's like reading an undercover operation of solving a human-trafficking case and rescuing people who became victims. Just that, it took place in interstellar world and rather than being used as s*aves or involved in prostitution, the trafficked victims were turned into characters in many stories before said stories were sold as a live-novel-experience products to the masses in the interstellar world. Whoa.

And the live-novel-experience program is something male lead has made before but later stolen. So male lead silently joined MC, who went undercover, and tried to take back the authority of the program as the creator.

Translations are good. Currently reading mtl. And I must say, I've found a really interesting and unique novel this time. I really love the FL and some side characters and the plot is also amazing. When I found this novel and read the summary, I thought that it was going to be an op FL with a harem kind of plot. But I was wrong. I much more enjoy the FL solving mysteries here and there than the romance. So yeah. I recommend that u should read it. I still... more>> have a lot of words to say but im too lazy and there are already other reviews that spoke out my thoughts. <<less

I just want to say I love the FL and the ML. Their dynamic is really fun to read. The FL's other comrades also make for great comedic relief. The plot is really unique, and there are moments that will make you emotional. The plotline of each world in the examination room is very intriguing and I find myself really invested since there is also a tiny dash of mystery involved.

I recommend ya'll to read this, there is more to the villain school than meets the eye.

Spoiler

The inner monologue of the ML has me dying and the fact that the FL can hear him makes it all the more hilarious

In a sea of novels here, this story has a kind of originality. The plot, the villain, the background story, and the small worlds are entertaining. I also love how ML is so tsundere. Cold on the outside, foolish inside. I Also love the comedic duo of snake and cats.

I'm gonna stop reading because it seems dragging, but I have a guess that

Spoiler

MC is actually Celine. She died in exams, maybe got recycled and appear again as a blank character.

Once I reached chapter 70, I kept putting off reading it until I decided to drop it at chapter 78.

I was expecting this novel to have a lot more action and thriller. Since it was based in a villain school, I thought each arc would be difficult to complete and would keep challenging the protagonist's bottom line. However, although each instance was unique, I didn't feel any tension.

I knew the FL would survive due to her luck. Although some of her accomplishments came about due to how decisive and observant... more>> she was, overall, the FL seemed a bit Mary Sue-like to me. I know other reviews are saying that there is a reason for this but she hardly struggled with any challenge so far!

Another one of my gripes is that the FL adjusted suspiciously fast.

Spoiler

She was a good, law-abiding citizen her whole life yet she adapted to being a villain like a fish to water. All her studying into being a villain shouldn't have helped her with committing mu*der, lying and cheating.

[collapse]

I would have liked to see her experiencing some inner struggle with this.

The ML seems quite obvious to me.

Spoiler

It's Xie Wuan.

[collapse]

I knew it from the first time he was mentioned. Like most novels with a female protagonist, the ML always has to be handsome, stronger and more powerful.

Spoiler

Although it can be argued that in some ways, the FL is stronger than him since she defeats him in the second arc.

[collapse]

If the ML really isn't him, then it would be an amazing plot twist.

So far, I don't think this novel deserves the 'reverse harem' genre.

To sum it up, the FL is competent and confident- which I like- however, it can be quite boring due to the lack of tension or any plot twists. The side characters could also use some work as, so far, it feels like none of them can be as clever or quick-witted as the FL. I understand some of them are cannon fodder but some of the bigger villains really failed to live up to my expectations of them. <<less

Wow. I mean it's not like the novel was completely unpredictable, but honestly I didn't see that coming. Even if I suspected some things, the way the novel was written was unexpected still.

You know those novels that have a lot of mysteries and just exist and you wonder why it does? And then the couple gets together and it's never answered? Yeah, that's not this novel.

Some authors also word dump explanations at the end and us readers just have to accept it without any foreshadowing. But not this novel. Although... more>> the explanation ended up kinda out there, it felt very reasonable when you finally get to it bc of the way the author set up this entire novel from the start.

Warning, it's actually low-key dark (I mtled but there might be a light r*pe warning needed imo although it's not fully described so I'm not sure but it's not against the MC and the MC helps get revenge if it helps) only bc it has real depth of writing.

The author goes ALL the way, leaves no stone unturned and question unanswered. And the answer wasn't cliche. Really applause. Low-key I think this is a masterpiece. The romance ended up cuter than I expected too, but for sure, definitely the focus of this novel is actually real good PLOT. Lol.

I recommend if you like different worlds but a strong sense of story holding it all together. Basically if you like opness but with very good writing and characters, you should read. <<less

No words to describe the novel. It's just - paking Awesome!!!!!!!-

The chemistry between the FL and the ML are so wholesome and so good, they could cause a big bang reaction. So sweet!!! And little xie is so cute!!! T_T

Im so sad that the novel is over!! Although the ending seems rush, it's just so good to pin out the problem. I especially appreciate the translator, since I couldn't wait, I read the MTL and it's not that hard to understand.

The plot twist at every chapter is just mind blowing!... more>> And the eloquency of the FL is note worthy. If I was a character in the novel, I would definitely fall for the fl's word trap xd.

Damnnn Damnnn it's so good. The ending had me in tears in a good way. I want extra chapters so bad. The mtl is good. You can enjoy the novel and won't get a headache reading it. I even laughed and enjoyed the comedy scenes in this novel which is something when reading an mtl'ed novel

When I read the description of this novel I was hesitant to read it at first because it legit looked like a reverse harem or at least with a sh*t ton of unrequited love drama... more>> but I was so wrong.

Friendship/Social Relationship in the Novel: The platonic relationship the protagonist had with the guys mentioned felt so real. The writing even in the mtl you can see the difference in the interaction between her friends and the malelead. The relationships the protagonist had a very balanced wether its between her close friends, classmates, acquaintances or strangers. It's a give and take type of relationship with both sides benefiting and uniting to achieve a common goal.

Plot: Oh man you're in for a ride. There's a lot of twist and turns and if you decide to mtl this novel trust me you won't regret it. I went there in love with this novel and came out still and even more in love with it. The flow of the plot is smooth not too fast not too slow. The mystery and hints are written here and there. The world building and the livestream aspect of this novel are my favorites because we can read the other people's reactions to certain scenes which is a win in my book.

Protagonist: She has great leadership skills and can formulate unique solutions on the spot to escape the predicament that she and her companions are in. There's more to her character than her luck she shows this as the story progresses.

Romance: The romance between the the female lead and the male lead feels natural and cute. Though the romance scenes are few when it does happened it fills the heart with sugar.
Spoiler

The male lead appears to be cold on the outside but his inner voice is always babbling and is quite hilarious to read

MC enrolled in a shady villain school. Kicking some asses, ruling the world, collecting NPCs left n right.

Pros =
The novel is extremely well written for a BG transmigration novel. It's light hearted n fun with a good plot. Honestly, I would put this novel in the unlimited flow/survival tag. The world view of the characters are refreshing. The 1st world villain is a yuki-onna that fell I love w a man but man is actually married. Yuki-onna then off-ed man n some men. I was shocked when MC didn't fully support yuki-onna, I though MC is an extremist but no, MC didn't like how the villain just off-ed people n destroying families. One of the most humanitarian FMC, LOVE how women support women.

The arcs are good but nothing new. Stranded in a snowy mountain, ghost ship, zombie apocalypse etc.

If you are here for the romance, u won't be getting any. There's little romance, just 2 enemies turned teammate turned pinning against each other turned lovers. I think it fits the novel well how there's little romance.

the side characters are amazing, the cat daughter, that one friend that's scared of being bald, that one tsundere, that one friend that's a double agent. I only have one question, who is actually Xiao Pu
Spoiler

ma refrigerator boi is in love w MC, but is shy. I'm all for refrigeratorxMC CP

[collapse]
there's still some mysteries left unsolved about some characters but it what gives the novel a depth.

cons =

the pacing is kinda off. MC took an exam then rest twice?? Then the principal just made MC took 4-5 consecutive tests. Poor MC working her ass off for 188 chaps n no fanwai.

MC is a walking koi goddess (extremely lucky). It was fine at first because the vibe of the novel is the silly sweet kind. Then it turned kinda cliche near the end. Everyone just love MC n the barrage in the live stream is kinda annoying, fortunately, it's still in the acceptable range.

all in all, One of the best survival BG novel that isn't too heavy w good moral n world view.
