Transmigration of Mian [Reluctantly] Becomes His Man [Wife]

Description

Qin Mian opened his eyes and found himself lying in a leaky thatched room. The problem was that he was still in his family’s villa beforehand! What’s more, another man was lying next to his leg in the quilt!

“You, you, who are you?”

The man sat up quietly, his upper body exposed as looked at Qin Mian for a moment before he carried a worn-out bowl with a cracked corner from the low table at the head of the bed. The man said in a muffled voice, “Wife, drink water.”

Qin Mian’s eyes rolled backward and he passed out.

Title explanation: 勉为其男 [miǎn wéi qí nán] have the same sound as 勉为其难 [miǎn wéi qí nán] which means to do something reluctantly. 勉 [miǎn] is also part of MC’s name: Qin Mian. Also, 其[qí ] sounds the same as 妻 [qi] means wife. So, there are words plays. Basically, Qin Mian reluctantly becomes someone’s man [wife] after he transmigrated.

2.5 stars only for beginning of the story. I really liked the story's beginning and the way story was flowing but as we reach the mid section author got so lazy with their writings that it literally made me want to drop the book. As their twins born I felt like author should have ended the story and could have included some extra to tie things up but story got so dragged out that it was unbearable.

In the story some explanation didn't make any sense, MC was gary sue and... more>> knew everything single thing. ML as always was cold and mysterious type but he was bearable till all his behaviour started getting repetitive and boring and even HE THE ML of the story started to fade after some time. To be honest after some time author made their family so gary sue that every end of their family interaction you will find side characters being joulous and envious of them telling us how good they are, how beautiful and perfect they are bla bla bla, it became too much repetitive for me.

Author wanted to include all their fav genre in this book or more like forced them in this book like slice of life, adventures, romance, cultivation, court official life, their schemes in court, war, supernatural, questioning action scenes, morden life etc. It was headache after some time to keep up the things they are doing.

Also author changed rule and setting of the world they priously painstakingly explained just to bend them for MC and ML, like why? And side characters started fading in background when it didn't make sense cause author spent so much time to build a character, write about them so much just to forget them later. And author is really bad at maths cause they will say that MC is 15 few chapters before then suddenly they will mention that his 16 in current chapter when there was no big time gap, it happened same with their children too. It was hard to know what exact age they were at that moment. This storyline was good in beginning but I felt like author bite more than they could chew and made mess in the end. <<less

Dropped.

At present, I want to read a slice of life novel without much brain work, so at first this novel kinda satisfied me. Although the soap opera conflicts, for example, conflicts with the step mother in law is quite cliche and every villains doesn't even born with an inch of brain, the rest are about their life, building up their small family from nothing and it's nice. So basically, about 70% of this novel is about food.

But after about their babies are born (about 120+), the author kinda slap every... more>> explanation to their space and their of-course-y'all-gonna-envy-me situation. No actually it's already like that since earlier chapter, but the author got lazier, it's worse. Everything become so much exaggerated. Really, even their pets can be envied by everyone. Walk a step, and everyone will envy his family. (Really in the story)

Also at this rate, this is not a danmei novel anymore. I tried for a few chapters, I change every MC's noun (his) with (her) in my head. And nothing amiss. Everything fits lmao. Everyone always call him sis in law or madam, okay I'm fine with it. But even their children think that ML is more powerful etc. Too patriarchy, I kinda don't like it, sorry. U_U And because ML suddenly fell in love with MC in earlier chaps without reasonable explanation too, the romance feels flat.

When it's the cooking competition arc, I can't bring myself to continue this novel. The MC is too gary sue. I suspect that he can even be the king if he wants. There must be a way somehow.

But the translation quality is superb. They explain every word terms, every cookings. One star for their team, and one star for entertained me in the first half chapters. Thanks translator-san ❤️ <<less

(✿´‿`) I really enjoyed reading this novel. But if you're not into farming, cooking and super OP protagonists then this is definitely not for you!

I love how the couple aren't in love at first sight and how slowly they developed their everyday life. From living in a leaky thatched room to owning mansions, restos and multiple building and properties. Probably it gets a little boring to others because everything goes smooth without any problem while building their riches. I think it's because of the transmigration and his advanced knowledges... more>> and with the big help of his magical space that makes things easier for the MC to do things.

I love that the MC is not a pushover type and not afraid to do shady things when pushed to his limits, same goes for our ML. I also love their twins, so adorable and smart! And white spot and golden fur! Side characters are given their fair share in the story- both the good and the villains.

Overall, this is a 4.5/5 for me! <<less

I loved the chemistry between the leads and the author wrote the story so engaging and the slive of life wasnt too overwhelming that it would make it boring and overshadow their chemistry. They didnt fall in love immediately but their is just as deep and unconditional. The characters also wasnt too ruthless, but they werent brainless righteous.

Translation/Writing

I read the translations by Foxaholic. There are some typos, awkward sentences and grammar mistakes but you get used to them and the translation improves as the story goes. It's definitely quite readeable though and doesn't break the immersion once you get used to it. The translator is pretty enthusiatic in the translating with footnotes so no worries on not getting it. It feels a bit like the level of English is not as fluent as Chinese. No hate though, they know 2 languages haha. As for the writing... more>> style, it's not bad, it doesn't focus heavily on just dialogue or just descriptions.

Plot

It's slice of life, making a better life by farming and doing business in the first half, then the capital arc twice, and then a modern world arc. I definitely liked the slice of life, farming and business making way more than the capital parts until the end. Once they become important figures in the capital, we don't get that slice of life warmth anymore. Other than that, there are unfinished plot threads or plot holes in the story. One is the part where there was foreshadowing with the MC helping a pickpocket that apparently will be a super good turn later in the story but it was never mentioned again. Another was the MC's real body, what happened to it? The MC appeared in a 14-year-old's body but we find out in the modern world arc that his body had actually disappeared. I also feel like at the halfway point, the author didn't really know what exactly they wanted to write and was rushed to finish. It was like they included some plot points, then decided they didn't want it and rushed the plot points to the end.

The capital part I actually didn't mind and still enjoyed in spite of some things that I didn't like. First is the whole medicine stuff. I found it rather unbelievable. The MC with zero training can use all these practical diagnosis techniques like just by feeling the pulse, he can tell what ailments they have faced, how many years in between ailments, how long to live etc, all unrelated to what, blood pressure? Heartbeats per minute? Too unbelievable.

But then, after this, they had to rebuild a county. This was done so quickly, it only took a few chapters, none of the detail from the first half. We only got the broad strokes. Then, we get to go back to the modern world. I have no idea what the author actually wanted to do here. The acclimation of the ancient people to the modern world felt like a joke. In what, 5 days/ They can move around in the modern world like they were born there? -.- Next, it felt like they set up lots of stuff like career for the ML, acting for the twins, medicine stuff for the MC, the MC's original family who treated him badly, but then they made the MC change his mind to just have fun sightseeing. It felt like lots of things were left hanging kinda. Then, very quickly they went back to the ancient world again, the end.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

I think the author meant for this novel to be pure wish fulfilment and self-indulgent for themselves haha. There are so many tropes in here that some do feel out of place. I was expecting a mostly farming/business making story but it has more stuff. First was the golden finger space of the MC. This is Ancient China so I was expecting like 85% of the story to be kinda realistic and 15% of the story to be able to happen because of the golden finger. So I thought this space was the golden finger. But then we get cultivators with all the related cultivator elements like pills, moving the Force, controlling other people, spirit sensing, soul leaving the body, illusions, flying, etc. This was kind of a genre clash for me but eh, I went with it. After that, we find out the old man who thought the ML fell through space to get there so he was the only cultivator in the world at that point so then I felt, wow, now there are space time elements too? So then it feels not realistic anymore but it's not really a fantastical setting because really only the main couple uses these fantastical elements. Not only are there too many and too clashing, they've been expanded way too little. Like it just says, there are pill refining and tool refining workshops and books but this was told in like one sentence and all the processes and ingredients and whatnot weren't explained at all. This happened for basically every golden finger except the business parts. So I really wished the author had just stuck to farming and making money because that was the most interesting to read! And actually relateable haha

It can feel self-indulgent, as I said, some parts feel like fanfiction to me. An example is when the couple made a stable high income and finally got good clothes, the description of those clothes and how amazing the author described definitely felt like fanfiction because it was only then that the author really described anyone's clothing in that much detail lol. And then they added all those tropes I said above to give the couple as many good things as possible. So much emergency money, the mystical space that was actually created by a random artificer and alchemist from dunno where that was never spoken of again, intelligent pets that can also cultivate, babies bron from 2 male parents, cultivator powers in a non-cultivator world, a mysterious past ML etc etc.

Pacing

As you can tell, the first half felt smooth more or less but then the ending felt kinda messy and in the end, quite rushed like the author just wanted to end it lol. Also, since from almost the beginning, we knew that the ML had saved a lot of money, there really is no urgency to make money. Just to have a peace of mind to have steady cashflow. I didn't really mind because it is slice of life and they could still live better.

Characters

The MC and ML were likeable. I really loved the first half when the 2 of them were cultivating feelings with each other, getting to know each other, taking action to improve their lives together and just spending time during holidays together. It was wholesome to read about haha.

The side characters are unique and nice to follow. The 2 kids that appear halfway through the story are also developed haha. It is too bad the village characters got left behind after the 2nd half. Then we don't really spend that much time with any side characters anymore unless you count the Emperor which I don't. He's kind of a villain to me since he made it so the main couple had to leave the village.

As for the bad guys, they were satisfying by making drama everywhere and I liked seeing them get beat down by the MC effortlessly hahaha. It's just that their final end all happened suddenly, randomly and offscreen. It's like living with a roar and then dying with a whimper. We don't personally see their end. The MC gets to know what happened to them from a 3rd party for all of these bad guys. So that wasn't satisfying. They were all conveniently taken out of the story just like that.

Overall

Overall, despite all the negative things I wrote above, I enjoyed my time reading this story. The first half alrd justified my time haha. It was interesting, there is a lot of delicious food, lots of cosy heartwarming scenes with the ML, etc. I did not feel like I wanted to stop reading at any point. I know this is no literary masterpiece and I am only here for my guilty pleasure, poor to rich, farming and business making tropes haha. As long as the main couple are halfway likeable, the writing doesn't break my immersion, and I can ignore everything else.

(Updated: 01/31/2023) The first time I read this, I didn't read it till completion. Mostly because I wasn't really interested in the 4th arc (which gave up on the poor-to-rich, business management, etc. Aspect in favor of political intrigue.) This time around, I read till the end, but to put it bluntly, I still think the first 3 arcs are the best since the rest is pretty much just self-indulgent slice-of-life affairs.

SUMMARY:

Historical (Ancient China) Fantasy. The MC, Qin Mian, transmigrates into a newly married boy with the... more>> same name as himself. This boy was pitted by a fortune teller and forced to marry the ignored and abused eldest son of the Lei family (aka the ML, Lei Tie!). Not long after transmigrating, MC decides that the best thing to do is to separate from the ML's troublesome family. Fortunately, his new husband likes to pamper his wife, and so the progress is relatively smooth.

The first few arcs of the novel is slice of life with strong "Get Rich" vibes. The MC takes advantage of modern knowledge and his golden finger (a magical space) to get rich ASAP. There's some family drama interspersed along the way, of course. After a while, there's the subject of raising a family, cultivation, life in the capital city, and a short trip to modern times.

CHARACTERS: 8.5/10

During my first read, I didn't appreciate the characters at all. I thought that they were cardboard cut-outs for your typical shou and gong. Now that I was able to read the story a little slower and appreciate the details, my opinion of them improved quite a bit. The author did a good job when it comes to the details, even though, I hold to my initial impression that this is not really a character-driven novel.

Qin Mian (MC)

A crafty and stubborn, (initially) straight shou. He's knowledgeable about various things related to farming, cooking, etc. Pretty OP. He has a magical space on hand filled with all sorts of things, but he doesn't use it much. Choosing to integrate into the times naturally (and just using the spiritual spring as a convenient way of pushing progress forward).

Lei Tie (ML)

Strong and silent type. His main strength is his physical skills. Doesn't talk much but he has a deep background. The first time I read this, I thought that he was just your typical stoic gong, but the author's little details made me appreciate him more this time around.

ROMANCE: 8/10

Nothing too complicated, but it's plenty sweet. Definitely the fluffy type of romance. I like it because there's actual development. In other CN novels, such a thing is almost impossible to see. I mean, it seems like the ML fell in love too quickly, what with how doting he is, but later, it's made clear that he had his own thoughts when it came to this, and it was very reasonable.

AH, just a warning, you'll have to decide for yourself whether you find the physical age gap uncomfortable (the MC is physically underage but mentally older than the ML — and acts like it). To be specific, the MC starts off as 14yo and the MC was in his 20s. Normal for the times, but still something to keep in mind.

SETTING: 7.5/10

Set in a fantasy version of ancient China. The main CP live in a rural village, so the initial plot introduces what life in such a place is like. There is a fantasy aspect (the golden finger - magical space) and cultivation aspect, but those are not real big focuses.

PLOT: 7/10

The plot of this novel is a bit disorderly and aimless. In short, it's all over the place. You just have to go with the pace. Especially after the chapter 100s, the pacing starts quickening after that and makes it seem like the author is just dragging things on. Still, if you enjoy slice of life, poor-to-rich, and historical novels, it's not a bad read. It's just a matter of whether or not it suits your taste.

RATING: 3.87/5

Definitely has its flaws, but if you're interested in a Poor-to-Rich novel set in Ancient China (one that doesn't hesitate to give the MC some pretty OP golden fingers), then this is not a bad read for you. I suggest at least reading it once! <<less

I have mixed feelings on this novel so far, only on chapter 49. The MC transmigrated overnight essentially to a teenaged body in ancient China. He accepts it readily without question and tries to assimilate, his worry is about what 'identity' he'll have in the world if he tries to divorce forcefully... not to wonder about how to get back to his world or anything. He also seemed to not have suffered from any special attack or death to have caused a transmigration. His response is just not a normal... more>> response.

Secondly, and this isn't really a spoiler since its mentioned in the first few chapters, MC supposedly has a spiritual dimension accessible from a mole on his arm. It has mountains, land, spiritual springs, etc. and he's grown food and has stocked up on a ton of living necessities and food in there... because the apocalypse was expected back in 2012. Now this set up is fine, but I'm now on only the 49th chapter and this spiritual dimension is barely mentioned anymore. MC had only used it in the first few chapters to eat some food sneakily and heal up with the spiritual spring and then once more to grab some apples to add to his tanghulu.

Third, MC is totally a Mary Sue. Apparently he knows how to live on a farm, how to garden and grow stuff and knows what wild fruits, vegetables etc are edible and are not. Very convenient knowledge when the setting is in a farm. MC also knows how to cook, amazingly well too because the whole village drools over his cooking. MC is also conveniently glib of tongue and knows how to sweet talk villagers, conveniently knowledgeable with ancient Chinese poems and sayings to talk to scholars and conveniently knows how to bargain and talk marketing with business owners. That's not all! MC also knows how to design and make blue prints for anything from noodle makers to cupboards and ancient transport carts. Literally, there's nothing he does not know how to do and his only limitation is his delicate teenaged body might prevent him from from being super OP.

The ML on the other hand... is your typical strong and silent type. Who knows kung fu, is able to fight ten to one and take on a wild bear all by himself. Again, I'm only 49 chapters in, but I don't really understand why ML seems to be so smitten with MC already. ML literally returned home after MIA for ten years and his family forced him to marry some stranger they found in the woods because of some fortune teller and bam, he's instantly devoted and loving to his new male bride.

Buuut... all of the above aside, the story is really easy to read. The chapters are short and because MC is so mary sue, any conflicts he encounters are pretty much resolved by the end of the chapter or the next chapter latest. I'll continue to read it, because I kind of want to know what happened to ML in the ten years he's been away but at the same time I kind of feel like I already know how the story will turn out just from reading how the chapters and characters have been set up. I predict this is one of those no surprise type stories. <<less

If I had to summarise, this is about.. A transmigrating guy who does things with his family. It is a hot pot (hehe) of genres. The MC and his buns are all very Gary Stu. Just when you thought it was a rebirth-face slapping novel, it switches gears to a culinary-hospitality genre, then xianxia and then medicine. I thought the pacing was very uneven.. Some arcs are painfully slow, some plotlines just wrap up with a few sentences.

In all, this is a decent read. It's nothing out of the box,... more>> just a slice of life piece but it is interesting enough that you want to finish. A few of the side characters had potential but the author doesn't really allow them to develop.

3.5 seems about right. <<less

Comfort novel 5/5

The novel is itself like a whole journey, when they started as poor people and strangers wedded to understanding each other and becoming rich. I feel like I have really seen them growing up all those years. Warm and cozy to read. The MC and ML are likeable and practical kind of people who knows priority.

This novel contains one of the most well developed children-parents plot. Their twins are so cute I wish I could go inside and hold them. From their birth to teenagers they always have... more>> ample amount of place in the story not just side characters.

Their pets are also adorable, after reading this novel I kind of wanted to live like them, peaceful, out of world, with a person to love, and children to spend time with. SO GOOD.

Highly recommended!!

I really can't understand people who give 1 stars. After reading so many troupes and angsty and complicated betrayal novels, many people couldn't appreciate this warm and comfort novel. If you don't like farming novel, then get the hell out instead pulling down reviews. <<less

This is actually my favourite novel in its genre. I have spent months after reading this to find novels like this but so far only Lu Lin's... came close. I just want to read about MCs selling food to get rich lol.

The only negative is the last arc where they go to the capital. Honestly, as soon as the emperor makes the appearance, these stories take a huge nosedive.

4.0/5*

This was an enjoyable read. Till 80% of the story or so I would have rated it a full 5*. I loved how cp worked hard to become super rich. As a reader you follow their journey and enjoyed their clever ideas and the face slapping was balanced out. It was satisfying to read.

The final 20% of the story was not as great. It was more 4* sliding to a 3.5* in the end. It became too fantastical and rushed. You can tell the author wanted to wrap it up,... more>> but at the same time she came up with all kinds of unfinished plot developments that made it messy.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE (0.75 point deducted)

1. MC had a big cheat, he had a magical space store that he had stocked with all kind of things as he expected an apocalypse. Also this magical space store was more an alternative magic world with a large house, forest, magical water, almost like a fairyland (explained in earliest chapters so no spoiler alert here). In short, it was so easy for him to become succesful and rich.

2. This was not what bothered me the most, but it became more and more fantastical, like
Spoiler

ML was the only one in world who accidentally came across a cultivator master as a teenager, so in this normal historic farming world with no cultivation, cp cultivated to become sort of immortals. This made them invincible. Also, MC turns from a super cook into a super doctor, etc.

[collapse]
The plot and CPs OP characteristics became more and more far fetched and unbelievable, that instead of making them more attractive, it felt like a deus ex machina that made them capable of solving any problem at any time.

3. Back story of ML. It was too far fetched.
Spoiler

He was a grand general who had resigned as he got forced to marry the princess. He didn't want and returned to his home town, where he got pressured to marry a skinny 14y old they found in the woods due to what a fortune teller told the family.

[collapse]
. Couldn't the author come up with a simpler explanation and kept ML like he was in the beginning? I found it more charming if ML was a simple, hard working farmer that know some kung fu but thanks to hard working with his 'wife' became rich and powerful.

4. Book 3 and 4. In book 3 cp moved to
Spoiler

the capital. ML suddenly became the commander in chief as per royal decree. So, suddenly we turned from a farming/merchant story into court politics.

[collapse]
The transition from book 1&2 to book 3 and especially 4 was not great and the feel of the story was no longer the same. The writing style was also different. Book 1&2 were detailed and fleshed out, but book 3 and especially book 4 were too fast paced and plots were introduced without a proper follow up or fleshing out at all.

In the end it was still a very enjoyable read. Really too bad that author couldn't keep up the level of the first 75% of the story and in the end made up so many far fetched plot developments, that felt out of place and all over the place in such a lovely farming/merchant story!! Nevertheless, I still binged it to the end. <<less

Overall a pretty enjoyable read if you like farming, building up from nothing, type story.

There's a lot of arcs. The MC and ML have secret hidden backgrounds, so this story crosses several genres. It kind of feels like multiple-novels-in-one, which means it can drag a bit at times.

Spoiler

There is even a cultivation element. And a modern-day arc near the end.

[collapse]

Also, the MC/ML are definite OP/"perfect" Gary-Stu like people. Which can get annoying because they have no obstacles, or even equals.

Spoiler

They can even keep their servants/s*aves loyal to them and prevent them from revealing their secrets through magical means that nobody else has access to. Keep that in mind.

[collapse]

However, I enjoy slice-of-life and peaceful, fluffy stories, so I didn't mind too much.

The reason why I didn't give this 4 stars is because...

Spoiler

Imagine a cast of 200 people throughout the length of this story. Only 2 women (2 old grannies) had a few positive sentences. Literally every other woman in the story had issues. A disproportionate amount of them were villainous, petty, jealous, small-minded, or portrayed saying inappropriate things by the author.

Many of the men in comparison were very respected and portrayed as being generous, wise, etc. And were frequently written yelling at their wives for not being the same. =, =

Furthermore, all of the major female villains died while the male villains were just locked up in jail for a few years and hoped for rehabilitation. The final modern male villain who even killed the MC originally was actually cured by the MC in the end. LOL?

[collapse]

Otherwise, a pretty good read. Translation wasn't too bad for it being a historical novel (only a few inconsistencies). <<less

Great novel.
Spoiler

This is a hidden mreg. It has really great plot of challenges at the beggining. However, after the children were born it has become way too cheezy. Kids call them "Dad" and "Old Dad". It also emphasizes too much on how cute the children are. It started to stray away from the actual plot and mostly focused on the relationship between the kids and the parents like the problems just simply dissapeared. It's way too cliche. It gave me diabetes.
Example:

ML playing with the children while MC watches while leaning at the door.

ML is expressionless but only smile when around his family

Children is emphasized as too advanced for their age

MC wants to be on even field with ML but acts like a typical housewife.
He trained kung fu but for some reason still weaker than ML even though he has a magical spring that cures all illness. He can't do any labourous work other than cooking.

I found this novel accidentally in wattpad....
This novel is about the journey and development from nothing to something....

MC is a very smart and business minded person.... I think he is so talented that he learn so many skill
from designer, businessman, chef, inventor, doctor, to regional and urban planning

ML is a very mysterious character at first, but than you learn that He is a very capable person
He love MC... even in his weakest and ugliest times
Their togetherness strengthens each other

... more>> For the storyline...

is quite fun because it takes us through various things and developments,
The problem in this story is not too torturous for the reader,
Does not drain the brain or tears,

This couple always loves each other there is no hatred or misunderstanding,
Their business is also running smooth... basically everything went well....
None of the employees they work with cause any trouble... which is rare in the real world...

But this story is very calming...

Where you always have someone who trusts and loves you.. isn't that everyone's dream?
and they also have a perfect and happy family...

it's sound like Disney isn't it ? Happily ever after..... <<less

In my opinion a story gets kind of boring when everything is too perfect and easy for the MC. Before reading this novel, I read The Only Favorite Ugly Husband which had much better worldbuilding and charter development than this novel. They are pretty much the same scenario, the MC is transmigrated to ancient times and starts a business and grows their power, but in TOFUH the MC doesn't have any cheats other than having a bit of business sense developed by living in modern times which makes his future... more>> development a lot more satisfying.

The novel is a bit hard to get absorbed in because every time I started to get intrigued by the plot, some nonsensical and usually arbitrary detail is shoved in. Many aspects of the novel have confusing and somewhat pointless backstory that kind of takes away from the character building and the worldbuilding with holes and flaws. For example, the MC is basically able to do everything despite the fact that in his previous life he was only a chef. The author uses the excuse that he lived in the country with his grandparents when he was younger, but this really doesn't excuse the fact that he not only knows the mechanics of things like a noodle maker and carriage but also knows how to perfectly draw a design of them. This is a common theme where the MC knows extremely arbitrary info like the recipe of smokeless coal and how to build a cotton machine.

This wouldn't be so bad if the MC was just really smart, but he even acknowledges that he isn't, and this is shown by the fact that basically all his problems are solved by his magical space and the water he gets from it. This is another thing that kind of made broke the flow of the story because every time the MC accomplished something it was basically thanks to the magical water. Now, usually it adds an interesting element to a story when the MC has a golden finger, but in this case, it just felt so random and thrown in.

One of the things I find really irritating is the development of MCs personality. The author makes the villain's very noisy and constantly finding trouble, which is usually interesting, however, sometimes they just seem to exist purely to offset the virtue of the MC and ML. Sometime the MC's 'virtue' comes across as a bit pretentious. For example, all the children of the villain's and annoying relatives are equally obnoxious and seem to really annoy the MC. When the children come to visit his farm, they break branches and knock flowers from the trees and demand he give them his things. However, when his own children are born the author talks about how beautiful they are and how all the villagers want to hug them because they are so cute. Then, makes sure to say that they would never let them touch their children because they have too many germs.

This is the point I started to get annoyed because it became pretty clear that everything of the MC's is better than everyone else, which is soooo not how children work. Even if you think your child is the cutest and most well behaved, they are still messy and tiring and a lot of work. But the MC's children are quiet, cute, and well-behaved. <<less

Well, this novel is pretty good, the plot itself is actually quite general, the ending itself is fairly well summed up, and not too verbose, overall this story is fun to read.

Maybe if there something flaw, it lies in the story that being too short??? I mean even though I say this story is not long-winded, stories with genres or world building like this one will generally have a longer plot in order to explain things in more detail and clearly.

Besides that, I personally feel that the handling of the... more>> antagonists in the story is very rushed and unsatisfactory. <<less

I enjoyed this novel a lot. Yes, I gave it 4 stars mainly cuz I can’t give 4.5, but it’s not enough for 5 stars.

I really loved ML and MC, their humble start from nothing and slowly getting feelings towards each other was wholesome. I would say that part/arc of Green Mountain Village were and will be my favorite and I may re-read just for those. I personally think that MC wasn’t that much of Gary Sue, yes he used space and knowledge, but mostly to improve his and Ml’s... more>> lifestyles, he wasn’t aiming for anything grand and I was okay with them not having much problems with their smooth development (Ml’s parents were enough to make me angry).

The reason I deducted a star (or 0.5) was mostly cuz ending and last two arcs were too unneeded in my opinion. Author either should have used Capital with a bit more complicated plot or used only Modern arc. I wrote why in spoiler below:
Spoiler

I think Capital arc supposed to be deeper since there was a moment with thief whom MC let go and in paragraph it was mentioned that this good deed would be returned, but “this will be mentioned a lot later and now...” thing, that’s why I have doubts and a bit unsatisfaction since it was never brought up.

As for Modern ‘arc’, instead of randomly placing MC family into there... it would have been best just to conclude their ancient life instead, they go travel and disappear at some point of their life or whatever (I am not a writer, but believe there are good possibilities). Then they go to live in modern world, otherwise I felt pity towards children, I mean after all modern lifestyle is more interesting, more free and comfy, there are many novel things plus ML didn’t managed to develop his ‘work’. Everything they learned or done became meaningless when they came back to ancient world.
Tho I imagine that as cultivators, they can travel thru time and space later and visit many worlds or go to cultivation world of ML master and go rampant there.

[collapse]
That’s the reason I didn’t deduct much since ending was open ended and no extras (tho extras could cover some small loopholes). Over all, I enjoyed this novel a lot, I needed it cuz I wanted fluff after reading too complicated dramas so I don’t criticize it harshly. Enjoyment is the key for best reading experience. :) <<less

Where to start. Hmm.

Firstly, I want to say that I was skeptical at first, but I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

I won’t lie, the author managed to shove every genre from transmigration and cultivation, to court intrigue into this novel. However, they did it so skillfully that it didn’t feel like too much. Everything managed to have a proper course and reasoning behind it.

The one thing that may annoy people is the Gary Sue halo being strong, and by strong, I mean super sonic strong. The characters didn’t suffer one bit... more>> and they thwarted every attack with luck.

I didn’t mind it too much, but that may be due to the fact that I’ve been reading to many dog blood novels and have gotten thoroughly sick of them.

I enjoyed the relationship betsy the MC and ML and I adored the kids. I loved the slice of life lifestyle in the first half and the court drama in the second have. The finally with them coming to the modern world, although answered the remaining questions, was a bit more “extras” than propped chapters, but it was still fun.

I’d recommend this to anyone who just wants something light and fun <<less
