Ok novel. A lil too Mary Sue (most everything goes smoothly or troubles are easily resolved) and a lil too 2D.

MC, Mi Li, and ML, Xi Baichen, never grew on me. Even when the plot was interesting (the last third of the novel was a lil boring), the main characters never came "alive" for me.

So the three star rating reflects my neutral feelings of not liking or hating this.

Spoiler

MC and ML are actually living in different worlds. MC at first couldn't control her crossovers and would pop up as different things around ML. The plot is cliche so of course the leads will fall in love over time. They will end up being together but their worlds will slowly merge. In the meantime, MC learns to better control her crossing over into ML's world. At the end of the novel, ML is able to crossover into MC's world but the worlds never fully merge even after they have children.

MC and ML ended up being connected somehow when they had car accidents in their respective worlds at the exact same time and place. They hit each other's cars. That's the explanation given but then it should be that the worlds were merging already, so they hit each other... not that they hit each other and that's why the worlds started merging. The author uses the latter reasoning for why the merging of the world centers around the main characters. So yeah, the logic is not logical. 👀

A solid, interesting romance novel with a unique setup and realistic yet lovable characters. The MC especially made me fall in love with her, she was just so lovely and funny.

The story goes that MC gets into a car accident and from that day on, she begins falling asleep often and waking up in a parallel world that mirrors her own. But she doesnt occupy a human body, but various objects like a door bell, a thermastate, a piece of bacon etc. She eventually occupies living animals, and then her... more>> own body, but for a great deal of the book she lives as objects (which is absolutely hilarious). Everytime she crosses over, she ends up in an object that is close to or around the ML. Its described as him basically being a transversal point that centers MC, who is able to travel through to his location at all times, with him acting as a destination.

So the ML accepts this as MC being like an evil spirit that visits him everyday. He thinks shes nonsensical and talkative, which is especially so because he himself is so gloomy and uninterested in life. ML is a writer with a pen name Rainbow Fart (lol) who is good at what he does, but frequently writes dog blood dramas that abuses the main characters and the readers. He is separated from his family for valid reasons that are explained later (kind of wish they went more into this but I'm glad ML eventually gained his own family in the form of MC). With her, ML slowly softens up and begins to find enjoyment in life.

MC and ML way of getting along is so interesting and cute. MC drags him along to do weird stuff (like watching a movie with her when shes in the body of underwear. Taking scenic pictures of her when she becomes a piece of bacon). She teaches him to cook, plants things in his yard, and the animals she occupies all end up staying at his house after she leaves their bodies so by the end his house has cats, a weasel, a monkey, a crow, a dog etc lol. His house ends up like a hotspot for oddities and ML eventually just becomes use to it. They get together fairly smoothly, no excessive drama and absolutely no heartbreak. Just I like you and you like me let's be together. They attracted each other very naturally and realistically. They also take a good amount of time getting to know each other before, no falling in love at first sight (unless ML fell for his doorbell...) Their romance made me squeal and feel so pleasant. They actually really felt like a suitable couple even before so that when they eventually got together it never felt strange.

Next, I really liked the way the parallel world worked and how MC took advantage of it. The two worlds are similar, with slight differences. In MC world, a cat breed like folded ear is common but becomes rare when she brings it over. So the cat becomes famous and stars in movies. In ML world, a fruit that is common is a new type of fruit in MC world. So she takes some seeds and sells the fruit and makes money. In both worlds, what happens to a person on one world usually becomes their outcome in the other world. So when someone does crime in MC world, ML will send them to jail in his world and the person from MC world will be affected by that. MC friend wins the lottery in her world, so when she goes back to ML world she give him the numbers and they win alot of money. I found all that interesting.

I also found the various things she transforms to interesting. A lot of the time she becomes items on the shelf that ML then has to buy. Hes competed with a little girl over a bunny doll before and denounced a college student for a pack of cond*ms. Hes also stolen his colleagues onion ring and bought a roll of toilet paper from a gas station bathroom. Because all of them were MC who came over lmao. When she become animals, after she leaves them she is still able to understand their speech. Which I also found interesting lol. So she listened to cats and monkeys and weasels talk.

The theory behind the parallel world does get explained.
Spoiler

ML in his world and MC in her world had a car accident at the exact same place at the exact same time. Technically they crashed into each other and caused overlap between the two worlds. That's why when she comes over she always goes to him and why only he can hear her talk when she is an object, because he is the link. If shes the key, hes the door

[collapse]

There are of course things that were not explained.
Spoiler

Why there are two sets of certain people in both worlds (her friends brother), but what about the ML and MC? Do they also exist in both worlds? It's never talked about or even thought of. If I went to a parallel universe, my first thought would be if there is another me there.

In the last chapter, ML goes to her world. We know the reason but it should have showed a slower progression just like her crossing did. She shouldve accidentally fell asleep holding him and when she crossed, brought him along with her by accident. Just like what happened with her cat. That would have made more sense them him randomly suddenly crossing. Its whatever though.

It's also not explained why she is able to continue to talk to animals even after leaving their bodies. But it was such a fun plot point I really didnt care.

[collapse]

Besides those plotholes, the story is awesome, the characters are 3 dimensional, and the romance is lovely. It wasnt enough to take off a star for me, so this remains a 5. It's a bit short and probably couldve had at least 10 more chapters, but it was still a solid story that kept me entertained. The ending is HE and
Spoiler

they have two kids that can also cross over to both worlds. Both MC and ML cross back and forth living in both worlds in harmony, with two sets of identity.

I'll be damned seeing this on latest series 😂.

Ok, ok. This novel is so light heartened and this pair gives me fuah-fuah (fluff-fluff, you get my point). ML have a poisonous tongue, but he's so caring to MC. While MC is beaming with positivity even though she appears as a light switch, vine, etc. She's no a pushover.

I love their chemistry. And MC really takes advantage both of the worlds huh. If I were on her place, I would do too.

Anyways, 5 stars!!

This novel is mainly a fun, light rom-com read and quite short as per usual length of CN novels. The ML though a straight man is indeed caring but with a poisonous tongue. The MC is very open, adaptive and smart. It's nice how they are from parallel worlds yet caring and falling in love with each other gradually. Most of the antics emerge from the MC due to the various items she possess as a soul ranging from non-living to living (not human).

A lovely thanks to the translator for... more>> picking this up~

Edit: 5-star review (that one 1-star review is an accident)

Edit2: Wonderful translating~ When I MTLed, I literally pieced together the jumbled sentences... how satisfying it feels now.. reading the translation... ah~

Again, thanks for translating~~ <<less

The MC started making me uncomfortable when she brought her folded-ear cat into the other world yet she doesn't have even the slightest bit of caution. She knows breeding folded-ear cats is bad but doesn't have any intention of hiding the cat from the sights of people living in a world that doesn't breed them. The cat is trending in the other world and any mention of the cat trending makes me really uncomfortable, even a bit angry. I'm starting to worry that someone would start to breed folded-ear cats.... more>> She also casually brings stuff from one world to another and posting them online. She's dumb, to be honest. Just reading it for the sake of finishing the story at this point. <<less

The setting is interesting, but am I the only one who feels that the MC is too Mary Sue? It's a feel-good novel and all so of course many things are illogical, but at some point, it's so cringey I have to quit.

Why I think MC is Mary Sue:

Spoiler
  • Appearance wise, she's lavishing, tall, with thin waist, lean muscles, and so on.
  • Talents: amazing cooking skills (although some dishes sound kinda fancy rather than tasty?), godly make-up skills
  • Lifestyle: trendy in fashion, perfumes, into fitness, always super neat and organized, can fix house equipment, not one bad habit (minus her 'special condition') found as far as I've read.
  • Mind: surprisingly adaptable, generous, so kind she can pull off a dangerous heroic act because "I have to be responsible for my tenants" (like literally, not a joke) ; while also rational and always give the right advice.
  • Everyone loves her, from family, friends, neighbors, tenants, to the friends' friends, their siblings, animals, and of course the ML who hasn't seen her and couldn't even tell if she's a ghost or human, cat,...
[collapse]

I don't know if there's character development for the MC later but as perfect as she is, I don't see room to grow anymore.

Having a really hard time liking the characters.

Spoiler

When ML's grandfather?or uncle or whoever left two kids with ML it's undoubtedly a super inappropriate and irresponsible thing to do and ML was wronged, but ML takes horrible care of them and doesn't care about them at all. He's really harsh to his 6 and 7 year old relatives who are depending on him and acts like a toddler, much less mature than them. When he doesn't see MC for a day he throws a tantrum, locking himself in his room and forcing a 6 and 7 year old to boil water and make instant noodles for themselves to eat. What the f*ck? He also abandoned them at a restaurant with one of his friends without saying anything to any of them and had him take care of them. Maybe it hits close to home so I'm more sensitive but I have siblings 10 and 13 years younger than me and have had to completely take care of them before due to family issues. I resented having it forced on me but I love them and would not let it show and treated them the best I could. ML is rich and handsome but knowing he could treat children relying on him like that destroys any good impression. Author tries to make him treating anyone but MC poorly show how well he treats MC, but all it shows is how much of scumbag he is. You can easily show a character cares about their love interest by treating them well without making them shallow and treat innocent people who aren't MC badly. He also has super childish moodswings that the author seems to try to portray as cute but aren't at all.

[collapse]

ML is garbage, MC is a typical Mary Sue.

It flows easily and holds your attention, the premise was fun and interesting but the characters are just.... eugh. What a shame <<less

Pros:

    • Fun characters - I really like Mi Li (FL) who is optimistic, playful, yet a bit ditzy at times and Xi Baichen (ML) who is sharp tongued but also henpecked husband
    • Interesting plot - We just don't know what FL will turn into the next chapter and things progressed unexpectedly
    • Comedy is funny - the netizen comments, FL's antiques, and the stuff that happens are just funny to read
    • FL's wise words -
      Spoiler

gems like "If his character is not good, then even if he's the first man you've slept with, you can't keep him."

      [collapse]
Hmm:

    • Lack of fillers - to be honest I won't mind reading more about the broadcast and reading the netizen comments
    • Things are progressing quickly - good if you hate dawdling in boring parts, bad if you would like to read more about each plot points
Cons:

    • Too convenient - the plot armor is so thick things are resolved in a chapter or two
    • Lack of/abrupt resolution - there is no follow up on some things (like Zhong Yu or FL's friend) and the ending of the whole story was rather abrupt
    • FL can feel irresponsible at times due to her ditziness
      Spoiler

FL promised to raise ML's nephew and niece together when her condition was still unstable, she also bought a cat rather on an impulse when her condition is unknown and ended up staying in the other world for almost 2 days while leaving the cat home alone.

      [collapse]
    • ML background is contradictory
      Spoiler

he was abused during his childhood so he became indifferent of the world yet he still had a business partner in his twenties? His sad background seemed to be added like an afterthought just to create a tragic ML background.

      [collapse]
Bottom line, it was a fun read and not meant to be taken seriously, but I really like the parallel world idea.

Oh my god, the female lead is an absolute riot! I love her so much- the amount of times I cracked up because of her comments are too many to count. Her character is written as smart and witty but also kind, cheerful, and somewhat childlike at times. I especially love how decisive and forward she is, especially with her interactions with the male lead. Unlike other novels, we won’t be waiting in agony for the two to admit they like each other.

The male lead is also quite cute: “a... more>> poisonous tongue with an honest body” describes him accurately. He may refuse the female lead with his words, but he always obediently follows her orders like a puppy lol. I like that while he may be reserved, he’s not rude for no reason and actually took the whole possession thing pretty well. They pretty much got along from the start, so no secondhand embarrassment here- all just good fun.

All in all, would totally recommend trying out this novel! <<less

This is such a cute story. I fell in love with it. I always had a smile on my face while reading it, Since I binged read it in one day, my face was hurting a little from all the smiling. But it was totally worth it.

FL is super cute. Always optimistic and smiling. I just loved her way of living. She is also really open minded. I loved her interactions with the ML. The ML was a cutie too. He was very caring towards the FL. He liked saving... more>> all the items she possesses, which I felt was very cute. I know I have used the word "cute" way too many times but I cant find other words to describe it. It was very very cute.

The FL was also never shy from the physical intimacy which I liked very much. There was no crying and waking up the next day with body pain. The relationship was very realistic. (If you skip the soul changing part).

Story flow

Spoiler

FL meets with an accident and since then she will start traversing between the worlds. Initially only her soul will be able to travel and she possesses various objects. But later her body also will be able to traverse. The ML finds her very interesting and she is the only color in his life. Later they both fall in love with each other. The story is all bout their interactions with each other and how the FL changes the ML slowly from being a lonely guy who eats ready made noodles or take overs all the time.

I binged it and I never felt bored. I read each and every sentence. Some novels get boring during the middle and there are many novels where I skipped a few chapters and paragraphs. But in this novel, I read all of them. I was browsing for many days searching for a good novel, I hadn't been able to find one for quite a long time. I was totally satisfied with this.

It a very fluffy romance novel. You cant go wrong with this. Go for it. <<less

With how much praise this has got, I might have to be the devils advocate. Interesting premise and cute love story. But follows standard romance structure and trope. FL is a Mary sue and ML is filthy rich with troubled family issue. It is fun but gets tedious with all these sing-songy narration of the leads perfect idealistic portrayal. And all these Mary sue characters get cringy from cute at some point. It gets hard to take the characters, and the story seriously.

All in all, I agree this is a... more>> feel good story. But nowhere near would I consider it deserving of such a high rating. Not even among its own genre. It is fluffy and leisurely for light read but definitely not for something more. And there are better novels that are light but also very tender and not so superficial. I am afraid I can't say this is one of those novel. It is just a silly romance story <<less

I didn't feel as satisfied as I thought I'd be with this story, but I knew I was sufficiently entertained. Plus, I've rated lesser novels than this a 5, so I figured this one deserved a 5 star as well, if only to thank the author for writing the story and the translator for the wonderful translation.

Both ML and FL were great, but I think the author had too much fun with the world building that she wasn't able to fully flesh out the characters. I can't put my finger... more>> on what exactly is missing, but it really feels as if something is missing from the story.

Regardless, it was a good read and I don't feel bad having taken the time to finish it. <<less

It's a 10/10 for me! Honestly, at first I thought, "The transitions are too quick and wow, the ML's open-mindedness is really great." But honestly, I love the fluff and sweetness as the story progresses. It's light, and totally not full of schemes, quarrel (there's not even such a thing like that between them), and it's really, really sweet and comedic. I found myself smiling and laughing while being immersed in their relationship.

Also, I added the tag 'Possessive Characters' in the list of tags, coz why not? I honestly find... more>> Xi Baichen to be a little possessive (but in a cute way and not the toxic way). Although the supporting characters are just really there as extra, I really don't mind it because what matters the most to me is the ML and FL's romance.

I truly want a few chapters more though😭. More chapters of Old Bai's travels to Mi Li's world would be the best.

This story is a definite must read if you just want a light and fluffy love story without those complex schemes and complicated feelings like hatred and revenge. This is absolutely a breather for anyone who's tired of revenge stories. <<less

I really enjoyed this story, reading it in one go! Mi Li is basically the most upbeat, delightful female lead ever, and I love how Xi Baichen is so accepting and devoted to her. I laughed most at Mi Li's casual reactions to whatever she possessed - a doorbell, a handmirror, a vine, a comforter.

The side storyline about Mi Li helping her friend was great, too. Mi Li eventually realized this friend always relied on Mi Li to help her out instead of standing on her own, and Mi Li... more>> ultimately decided to distance herself from the friend due to the friend's inability to handle her own toxic family. When someone you care about refuses to change their harmful habits, all you can do is to let them live their own life, and go your own way.

This story has a great, fresh take on families and familial obligations, including that sometimes, family has to be kept at arm's length, or even severing the relationship. Xi Baichen had a legitimate reason to distance himself from his biological family, and I'm glad Mi Li supported him. Together, they went on to build their own non-traditional happy family of cats, dogs, plants, and all sorts of other creatures.

Saving this story to re-read on a gloomy day where I need Mi Li's cheerfulness to perk me up - even as a chunk of cured meat, she's just happy to literally hang out with her sweetie from another dimension. :D <<less

Good comedy. The subplot about the reason why she can travel between the two worlds could have been more thrilling...
