The opening is definitely a grabber and it's already helping clear up the confusing synopsis. I also have to give thanks to the translator for the term

Sweet Potato Novel: A novel that’s so frustrating that it leaves a bitter aftertaste.

The writing and translation are both solid.

Bottom line, An opening that grabs, a main character that generates instant empathy, good writing and a well done translation, I'd certainly like more

The novel’s description here really doesn’t do it justice. Rather than a romance between a cold duke and a silly and kind of dumb heroine, so far the story has been closest to a suspenseful thriller.

The main character finds herself in the body of the novel character, but quickly discovers that the truth of her new reality does not match what she had read. She has strange abilities she does not know how to use, and has to figure out how to survive in a setting where the only thing... more>> she’s sure of is that someone wants her dead. She has to unravel the mystery of what’s going on and get herself out before it’s too late.

The story seems to have good pacing, interesting characters, and intriguing plotting. The chapters are a nice length and the translation is smooth. I’m excited to read what happens next! <<less

i genuinely don't understand the low reviews. Of course everything's all confusing at the beginning--that's how any good story starts. The entire purpose of a good novel is to make you more curious and want to read more. You aren't going to get the entire plot in three chapters and that's a good thing. If you want a bland transmigration fake marriage novel go somewhere else.

both the FL and ML are very likable characters. The FL is now essentially in a world controlled by her older sister who wants to... more>> kill her. However, even when shes (rightfully) terrified she still plans her escape and takes advantage of any chance she gets to figure out what's going on. Also she has had such little time to get used to it. It's amazing how put together she is for someone who has essentially been thrown in a physiological horror movie.

the ML is so cute because he's described as one of those "cold, no smiling, ruthless" male leads but he literally cannot stop flirting with the fl. He genuinely likes her. Every single time they interact the ML teases her and is always smiling. It just feels like I'm reading someone finding their best friend and falling in love with them.
Spoiler

also they both make me laugh because when they are planning their wedding contract they play a game of chess and our FL is horrible at it so in between serious conversations or like dowries and sh*t you have the FL and ML arguing over chess (mainly with the FL being like bro!!! That's not fair!!! Wtf!!! And the ML being all smug idk it's just so cute to me

[collapse]

and the main antagonist? The fls sister? Bad bit*h I'm so curious as to who she is and why she's doing what she's doing.

anyways, good novels are supposed to be interesting which this one definitely is <<less

I don't get why some people would b*tch about how the start of the story, the description, the original novel and so on was useless and why did the author not start with easier, less confusing opening.

If you haven't notice, it's to gaslight the readers AND the MC herself about the situation, the author is creating suspense and plot twists, they're confusing the readers. Plus the story didn't even derive away too much from the og novel, the author just added what wasn't mentioned in the og novel, what actually... more>> happened behind the curtain because the og novel was focused on og Olivia's pov so MC wouldn't know much either since Carrine was the real MC of the og novel. Would you rather read a novel with so goddamn obvious plot line that you could guess even in your sleep or read something that leads to you using more of your brain juice. That is, if you have any more brain juice left to spare. It's funny because if you take out those confusing elements (inluding the originals novel she had read part) the author threw at you, you're left with some basic novel you've read countless times before and you would whine around saying this story is literally a copy of every other marriage contract novel in existence, did you not realise how dumb that sounds?

Personally I think this novel is really great because looking at the title and novel description you would have no idea that that it would actually be mixed with some creepy element. MC's experience is actually very scary to face if you actually try to imagine being in her spot like legit I'd cry the moment a bunch of evil spirits starts bolting straight to my face trying to eat me alive. I do hope the mild horror thriller in this novel won't disappear after she marries Lennox because it's really intriguing for me. <<less

I honestly do not understand the point of setting up a premise, and then jumping the shark. It's frustrating and absurd.

So, we're told that our MC transmigrated into a book where, after suffering and evading her jealous, psycho sister, the OG FL, Olivia, was on the cusp of triumphantly escaping her wretched family (who are about to be executed for treason) and marrying the Crown Prince to get her Happily Ever After.... only to wake up body-swapped with said psycho sister and executed as she screams her true identity and... more>> her sister, in her body, steals her fiance and life.

Our MC b*tched that she could do better, and then woke up in Olivia's body before the start of the novel's plot. The goal should be pretty straightforward, right? Defeat the sister on behalf of the OG FL, and claim her rightful place by the Crown Prince's side. While less satisfying than the OG FL being reborn to do it herself, this shouldn't be complicated.

And yet, all of a sudden there's some weird talking spirit bird thing giving the MC special powers. Neither of them were ever mentioned in the original plot. Out of nowhere, she's some extra special, foretold "epure" who can purify everyone but herself. Seemingly half the kingdom is after her for those powers, after an oracle announced her appearance. Which was also not in the original story. So she needs to marry the scary-powerful grand Duke, exchanging her purification powers for his protection in their contract relationship with a time limit.

Which is all fine and dandy, but why not start with that? Wtf was the point of the original setup? Why is she even this character if the character is going to be intrinsically different than she originally was? I caught myself thinking "this is frustrating and dumb" because there was zero purpose to her being in this specific book or character. <<less
