The rumours said: Young Master Mo prepared three hundred and sixty-five methods of torture to interrogate him with, just waiting to try them out on Gu Mang. They were so varied it was more than enough to toy with him for a year without repetition.

The novel was simply PAIN throughout but it was so weelll written! I have never cried reading a novel as much as I did while reading Yuwu. They go through so much pain and yet they're still okay. I would recommend this to anyone. A beautiful novel!

The way my opinion about the emperor and Murong Lian kept changing. 📈📉📈📉📈📉 I did love the emperors sassiness.i did suspect jiang Yuexue to be the mastermind or atleast one of the badguys lol after readin ERHA I know that the nicest and kindness person will end up being the bad guy. thats why I knew murong chuyi was cold and distant in the beginning, I miss my guy chuyi wish he and Mangmang got to spend their time as brother 😭

Great storytelling of a great plot with a cast of great characters. It's meatbun, what do you expect? The translation are also superb. They can interpret and adjust meatbun's writing (and localize it) so well. However, depite that I still have big problem with this story:

  • I was quite invested for a few chapters because of the facts stated above, but I don't have the patience to read a romance story where the ML (in this story: is the shou) is only exist in flashback. His current self doesn't have a sound mind and it's totally different than having an amnesia. It doesn't change whether he is pretending or not, because he is still present as unsound mind to even us (readers). Anyway, having a sound ML accompanying the MC since initial chapters is not a definite rule of romance story, but it does take away a lot of excitement of reading one. My taste lean more to story where MC and ML are constantly interacting and both have active parts.
  • BTW, what I mean with unsound character is not those who born with special characteristics or merely has lower IQ, but a character with changed mentality with possibility of recovering.

If you love meatbun or if you don't mind this type of slowburn you can go on to read this (still) highly interesting story. I'll continue reading when I run out of novel with great plot (highly unlikely, right?) or when my curiosity win over.
This is still 4 or even 5 stars story, just the plot doesn't suit me. <<less

It is painful, full of suffering, but beautiful. I really enjoyed how I shed tears reading this, it's worth it.

You will find a lot of annoying characters at the beginning of the novel (glance at Murong Lian and Mo Xi). However, as time goes by, you will find your hatred for them slowly erodes and end up sympathizing with them. All characters have flaws that make them look like villains but in the end you can't really hate them, of course that doesn't apply to the real villain, the scum... more>> Emperor, Murong Chen. I was quite toyed with by him. Because of him, my hubby, Lu Zhanxing had to die a miserable death. I still can't get up from that sadness.

In essence, this is a heavy book, full of thorns that are ready to break your heart every chapter. But, this will make you addicted, wanting to read more, because you will know that every action all character takes has meaning. This is a worthy read. Therefore I give full stars. :) <<less

This is an outstanding and painful novel. I read thèse 97 chap in 2 weeks. Couldnt let more than the Time to go to work and Come back. Meatbun, ah.. How to Say.. Even sometimes too poetic, I love the way he writes his stories. Moxi, Guman they were born for happiness together but to deserve it they have to go through doubts, anger, pain and I follow the rythm wishing the Happy end to Come. When will Côme next chap please 🙏🙏

The novel is so beautiful. This novel will make you cry, angry happy. Basically, this novel is full of rollercoaster ride of emotions. The translation is also really good. But it's really sad that the translator has decided to slow down the translation. It really hurts that I can't savour this novel and will have to wait really long time. It would be so nice that translator would pace up.

  1. I don't love novels that easily and this is one of those novels which pulled me in from the start. The characters are rich and everything flows well, I'm just really sad that only about one episode comes out per month, 2 if we're lucky. I just wanna read this deliciousness soon and I'm pretty upset

At first I was just looking for a novel that seemed interesting, I only read the initial summary and was interested, didn't read the title or author. In the middle of reading this novel I thought about why the author made a plot like this, and always looked at the author's notes who dared to include other novel characters in small notes at the end of the chapter. After I researched it, it turned out that the author was Meat-bun writer-nim, what??, if its Meat-bun that wrote it, it's only... more>> natural that the plot could be like this, and I got to see the names of the 2ha characters. <<less

Honestly this is my first time to write a review for a story....

first of all I love this story and this deserves recognition...

second this story has everything you need... love, hate, friendship, tragedy, melodrama, comedy, pain, pain and pain.

... more>> Ok so I can say that yuwu is that type of story where you can't predict each character's intention... each character has its won flaws and strength..

The best thing in novel is each character has their own fully developed story and no character are useless..... side couple are well executed.... and this mini stories are connected to main one...

Our main cp general gu mang and mo xi has their own uniqueness and you love their interaction everytime you read about them... if gu mang suffers.. mo xi equally suffers in their own way.. but what attracted me most is the dynamic of MURONG CHUYI and JIANG YEXUE

... in my options murong chuyi is most tragic character in the whole novel

Murong chuyi deserve better in whole story...I feel that his and yexue story can be explored in better way..... gu mang has mo xi but chuyi has yexue who is the caused of his problem but he loves chuyi more them himself.... and chuyi was his whole world.... he is so possesive and obsessed with chuyi

Plus their first meeting in snow

I also not hate yexue... and can understand his condition why he act like that

From the starting when their characters show up I find more attracted to them as compared to main one

Honestly after their story end I loosed my interest to read remaining 20 ch......i literally cried for a whole day about thinking their story.

Love him and his character exploring is in last.. but love his attitude and dedication towards his works

Main villian and shared story with Chen tang and jiang fuli

Yue chenqing

He is so cute and cinnamon roll honestly he is mood maker in story and his dedication towards his uncle chuyi (not blood related)

Lu zhen

He is friend we all deserve gu mang is lucky to friend as him and I cry when I read about his injustice

Overall this story is worth of reading so go and read you find that that black and white has very distinctive line and this sme thing happened to life

It's not a review because Yuwu is brilliant. Please go and read this wonderful novel to experience constant heartache (we are all masochists, just accept it and revel in the mastery of angst in this novel)

Here goes the snippets of my reading thread:

Yuwu will make your hurt. Six chapters into this story and my heart clenched for Gu Mang because he doesn’t appear initially so he is alive through dialogues and other people’s memories. Especially when you contrast it to the reality of the situation.

but it can also be... more>> peak comedy when Gu Mang comes to stay with Mo Xi... oh the hilarity that ensues. The ascetic cool and calm General Mo has got no chill when it comes to Gu Mang, our wolf pup. Gu Mang the new cat and General Mo the exhausted cat dad

I love my ultra tsundere prickly Mo Xi

I can sympathise with Mo Xi’s emotions... he hero worshipped Gu Mang and rightly so, only to find him so utterly lost

The moment when Gu Mang mistakes the s*ave collar for a necklace and thanks Mo Xi... the undercurrent of emotions in this scene

Past or Present... Gu Mang consoles our sulky Xihe Jun

The beauty of Yuwu is that you see exactly why the love and hate runs so deep. It’s not some abstract love-at-first-sight passion kind of thing. They were each other’s everything. It was Them against the world. Brothers, friends, comrades and lovers all meshed together to form the deepest of bonds.

My poor baby, he worked so hard to return everything back to his Gu Mang Gege only to reach that point and not have his Ge to give it back to anymore

My heart aches is what I feel most of the time reading this novel.

Mo Xi has all my heart. And So does Gu Mang. I adore these two characters. And for all those who think Mo Xi is a scum gong or don’t like him need to re-read Yuwu. Mo Xi is one of the most understanding partners I have ever seen. After so much being hidden from him. He gives Gu Mang the freedom to keep some things from him. It shows his respect for Gu Mang.

I always thought it was Gu Mang who was going to make me cry but it turned out to be Mo Xi.

Oh, my heart is so full😭

I was wrong Gu Mang did make me cry

The first time tears rolled down at a happy ending

I am absolutely obsessed with this novel the characters are amazing and the angst is just Chief kiss I did need to take a few breaks while reading it but the gong was surprisingly one of the most greenest ML and MC he is such a sweet mochi and truly a devoted lover and our shou is tooo great for this world ahhh the amount of times I cried they both truly deserve eachother specifically gu wangs mo-shidi ~, the dynamic was kinda like a husky shou and a cat... more>> gong, and the side characters truly had personality I even cried for one so much absolutely did not regret reading it✨🫶🏼 <<less

i can’t believe how underrated this novel is. It is a masterpiece, I didn’t think I would be so emotionally invested when reading it. It has an amazing story line, strong romance and not to mention the humongous amount of ANGST. Both MC and ML touched my soul and I love them sm. It broke my heart multiple times when reading it but it was all worth it at the end. One word to describe this novel - Pain, this novel is kinda the one to make you depressed whole day until you finish it. ML is literally just suffering throughout most the of the novel, living in torment both mentally and physically (to the point you might feel the author is brutally torturing and abusing him). MC is no better, but he's mostly suffering mentally. To put it straight, they both suffer in their own ways. Even the cp's happy moments are bitter sweet kind. For people who can't take... more>> extreme angst, I suggest skipping this one, knives in this one is much worse than 2ha. What they had was kind of a forbidden love, social class (this is like the main theme) acting as a barrier amidst of all those scheming happening around. The plot is well done (as expected from meatbun), the twists are amazing, so it's better not to spoil yourself beforehand. The cp is so precious, they love eo so much (I love them sm too T.T). The HE kinda seemed forced, but no big issue and meatbun already mentioned reasons for that in her a/n.

This story is good! I love the plot and the side characters but i'll rate this 3 stars because the main characters' rs didn't grown on me and I was expecting more with this novel.

I shed a tear a bit when murong chuyi died

The angst is from beginning to ending, so for a person who likes angst but doesn't like angst with characters I wasn't familiar at first, I wouldnt cry for them even if the angst here is v delicious.

The main character's relationship didn't grown on me as much as the side character does like chuyi that's why I tried to finish the story for the plot and didn't read the extras. The fluff part was some at the middle and at the backstory and in the ending but those few fluff didn't helped to made their rs grow on me.

I still like the story especially the plot twist!!! Meatbun really did a great job in their stories' twist!!! <<less

So far out of Meatbun's novels, this was the one that actually made me think the most. About motives, about relationships - I was spinning theory and theory after myself wanting to figure out the truth ahead of Mo Xi. The angst was really bad, and honestly, I don't blame Mo Xi.

He still loved Gu Mang, and was disgusted that he did still love him. He loved him, and he could remember the pain GM felt before he left, and understood why he would want to betray the kingdom. At... more>> the same time, he hated him for the deaths and pain he caused; not just to the common people, but to himself as well. And so while he'd do everything in his power to take him under his possession when he returned, he also couldn't bear to treat him too kindly because he felt the souls of the dead watching him with accusing eyes.

At least I can say that out of Meatbun's protagonists, Mo Xi is the one with the most morality and best values. He never forced Gu Mang in any way, even when he thought he was a traitor. And he never forgot how well his shixiong treated him when they were young, and was thankful for it. As for Gu Mang, he takes self-sacrifice to the next level; I love him to bits <3

(P.S: Side characters were addictive and I wanted more of them!) <<less

It is knife after knife, NON STOP, knives!! MC was hurt because he didn't understand the truth behind ML betrayal. He missed treated and said a lot of hurtful sh*t to ML. But then later you find out what ML went through and sh*t that hurts even more! The smut was good. But so little happy moment. Then ending was too much, just had too many twist and turns, plus the MTL translations sucks. This book is so goddamn angsty it took me a few months to finish it (also finished few other novels in between haha). Too angsty for my taste (and I've enjoyed 2ha) but it's an overall pretty solid read. Meatbun has a thing with her writing where she just reveals a lot of plot twists at the climax, those plot twists were handled much better here than in 2ha. Beautifully poetic and extremely powerful emotional writing; use of two seemingly unrelated situations to hint at a deeper meaning or warning; shifting dynamics between different characters, in particular the switch between Mo Xi and Gu Mang's control of their very fragile relationship juxtaposes against their past selves, and against the political power play of the court; the jaw dropping plot twists and subtle hint dropping throughout the novel. The entire novel can be used as a study in how to weave emotions together with heavy plot. Revelations are better paced... more>> throughout the novel and overall a more steady and grounded novel than Erha's rollercoaster change of pace. <<less
