A character Li YuAn would be blamed for "bringing disaster" by the main characters? Li YuAn was trying to seek help / safety from Sixth prince who was planning to r*pe him. A quote to give you an idea where I am coming from, "they seem angry that i'd make myself vulnerable more than the fact they'd acted on my vulnerability." I get the whole hierarchy thing with how Li YuAn is much lower in status and "doesn't deserve" such, that further adds to the background, but it was unexpected when Jingnu also blamed him for it. Jingnu is shown to see all as equal, that she doesn't consider the hierarchy, this was shown numerous times. For example, when she disapproved how servants and soldiers' deaths of different status would get a different compensation, which happened AFTERWARDS too. Things just don't go together, the only excuse I can think of this was that the author wanted to show how unreasonable Jingnu can get, since she was jealous from Li YuAn "showing interest" towards Qiyan, which again proves my initial point of using characters.
Lots of plot. And plotting. This entire thing starts off as a revenge story, and -
the revenge IS fulfilled, leaving Jingnu alive!
While I did notice some errors, they are scattered and do not detract from the story. The translation quality is very, very high, and there are little notes to explain traditions and events. The sentences don't flow awkwardly, unlike mine, though there is definitely a distinct 'I'm reading a translation' feel. It's not a bad thing, one might even say it's delightfully charming. Feeling/Character Development?
Yes. Just, yes. Overall, worthy of reading?
Dumb question, but yes. I am an extremely impatient, flighty creature with an attention span lesser than that of a goldfish, and I spent an entire three days pouring through this titanic work. (That is a very, very long time for my interest to linger, ok? Especially without waning. Shh.) Other than it ignoring the handicap of me being the reader, it is still amazing. Plot, grammar, feelings, gay, gay, gay (important things must be said thrice), intrigue, what's missing? The only bad thing I can think of is the fact that it ends?
f*ck LU AND DING. I've read a lot of Chinese novels and seen a lot of brutal things, but these two. It is so messed up and disgusting, I wish they were real people so I could kill the myself. I don't even know what to say.
