It's a really good crematorium novel! Neither MC nor ML are actually scums nor do they not love the other, but ML became overwhelmed with heavy responsibilities as an emperor and MC was also plotted against... which ended up in this mess! They both are human and have flaws, but they're a really good match when they communicate like a couple.

I really enjoyed reading this novel, you might call me soft-hearted but the suffering ML went through also made me want MC to come back to ML earlier.

Why I think... more>> ML was extremely pitiful?

Not only ML had been abused since he were a child but also had been raised by a horrible poisonous woman who only wanted to use him for her own gains... The "responsibility" she forcibly installed in him and the lack of positive emotions from anyone made it hard for him to show him emotions later on when he was together with MC. Moreover, he didn't know how to communicate in relationship. He never wanted to hurt MC and when he realised he might be the chains that drag him down he tried to get him to leave him instead because in his mind he wasn't being a good "responsible" partner. One couldn't communicate well and the other wasn't willing to understand so it's no wonder they ended up like this in past life.

And not only did he suffer from trying to simultaneously be a good responsible emperor but also a good husband but then he went through years of regret and painful tortures after MC's depart... which scarred him mentally. Now he's so afraid of forgetting to treat MC well he isn't willing to give up the pain he feels at every second. This is one of the most suffering gongs out there, I swear.

It's a really good novel, the angst parts are getting a bit much but they're reasonable. And the past abuse doesn't drag on. <<less

ML chose his country, throne, responsibilities and himself over MC in previous life. MC chose to torture the ML emotionally in this life and left him when his mental and physical conditions were not good. That's it! I think it's equal now.

Now either be together or divorce. Stop this dog blood drama please!If only they could talk with each other this wouldn't have happened.

First of all to the previous reviews were very misleading. I almost didn't dare to touch it and only after I tried the first few chapters abit, did I continue to read it.

Differences in timeline.

1. Timeline: MC's elder brother was in a secret mission and died, because of that spy handsome qin player that was from another kingdom. The spy was a lower prince, cuz mother was a concubine or something. In exchange for MC's elder brother death, his ranking rose or sth.

2 Timeline: in this timeline MC took fancy of the spy and this led to ML paying attention to the spy and then realised he is a prince from another kingdom. ML then promised to rescue MC's elder brother and there was an exchange and the elder brother was injured but alive. So in this timeline elder brother is not dead and MC and elder brother met each other.

Anyways. Bad ppl paid for everything. I liked the story very much. There was a huge miscommunication between MC and ml. And if only they talked with each other. It would'nt have happened the first timeline. But it's realistic wise. I'm not much of a fan of Bad end, but well, the characters were well made. Im still confused about MC and his father estrangement. About when MC got injured accident. It wasn't explained more in detail. The 2nd timeline there was alot of groveling from ML to MC. I'm happy that they got their conclusion. I'm still sad though cuz of 1st timeline.

P.S. Estelle was talking about ML's relative or little brother kid who secretly sneaked out to play and has a favourable impression of MC. He only appeared once I think. <<less

Damn. I felt bad because they were just too young and too many ppl were waiting to harm and take advantages of them. Even when two people loves each other dearly, it's still so easy for relationships to crumble easily. I liked the writing and the characterisation of the casts a lot, especially the MC and ML

I ended up liking this novel more than I expected. The MC and ML had a lot of flows but I was able to continue reading it because I saw their consistent character development. I specially appreciate how vengeful the MC was after his rebirth and how accepting the ML was knowing that he's getting duly punished for his previous behaviour. Admittedly, not everyone will like how manipulative and cruel the MC appeared but whenever I feel that way myself, I kept on getting reminded that he did have to... more>> suffer a lot and even committed su*cide because of it. I prefer that he truly gave back every sufferring he experienced.

Moreover, the translation was superb and detailed and it added to my enjoyment. <<less

First and foremost, the translator did a great job, so thank you very much!

I absolutely loved every emotional rollercoaster ride, even though I had to give myself a few pep talks along the way to keep myself together! It didn't work, my heart bled and my eyes were a waterfall reading some chapters.

This novel is a gem and I will be reading it again and and again!

Tbh I dont really like the characters, maybe thats because I was pampered by feel-good novels before where all the characters are nearly perfect and all, but the MC here really is selfish and self-centered and ML isnt quite a good lover because he places more thought on other things (not wrong because he is a monarch in the first place..)

I just hope that they will have a peaceful live from that on 😔 <<less

This was well executed!; revenge arc ✔️, chasing arc ✔️, redemption arc ✔️.
I love it sooooo much.. All of you complaining about how MC is selfish or whatnot must have read this kind of novel for the first time because almost all bl/damnei novel consist of having the MC abused by the ML and the MC having no choice but to forgive without the ML going through a redemption arc.

It is very painful tbh so no I don’t think the MC is selfish, I am very satisfied on behalf of other mc’s who couldn’t have their revenge arc. But maybe it’s my sadistic heart speaking, who knows. Also I liked the ML because from all the historical novels I’ve read, even if the ML is wrong, they would still use their authority as an emperor to command the MC into forgiving them but in this novel the ML didn’t do that. He is the definition of “redemption” himself.

We all know the truth when it comes to reading historical bls. Once it involves a scum emperor, instead of repenting for their ways and chasing, they would try to manipulate the MC and abuse their power. So rn we should even appreciate the author for not making the ML like that and for giving the MC the backbone he needs and deserves. And tbh what he said was definitely what almost all Mc’s going through the same situation might have thought, for example when he said something about how he was happy the emperor suffered after he left, like let’s be for real. No one would be happy if after their death, the person they liked would be enjoying, drinking and having fun, ofcourse not. And fun fact, I actually liked the Ml. If there’s any gong in a redemption arc I’ve felt remorse for its definitely him and him alone. He deserves all my heart.

Nothing important but I feel I should mention that while reading the novel, I realized that the ML actually liked the MC in their previous life, it was just that he was an emperor and he was planning schemes and conspiracies so he couldn’t express it so as to avoid his plans getting disrupted. Although it was not as much as the love the MC had for him in his previous life, it was still there. Atleast that’s what I understand from what I read.

So once again, thank you author for this book, and I’ll definitely recommend for those looking for a selfish, revengeful, petty, strong willed shou (Mc) x repenting, strong, wife obedient gong (Ml)

This novel is peak perfection. The revenge hits evey single sweet spot, I can feel for the both parties and I actually rooted for the ML when I never really do that in a revenge manga. It's extremely satisfying to see ML crumble but you also feel bad for him. Just like MC, he was being extreme in a way that would piss off some people. The story wraps up perfectly and I absolutely adore it. I think it is perfectly long too, it doesn't drag when it doesn't need... more>> to but you absolutely feel every second of ML's suffering when you need to. I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS NOVEL <<less

I do like this story. I like seeing the ML suffer. I don't think the MC is cruel. He's just returning what's he's been getting in the previous life.

What I wanted to address was. The ML is incompetence. He is s*upid. The method he is using is hurting the MC. I do think he have other option to solve the problem but the method he is using previously sure is the dumbest and lowest. I don't feel sorry for at all for him. I felt like he's trying to justify... more>> his fault and making it seem like some of it occur due to MC. When he can opted for better solution. Instead of making another woman as imperial Concubine. If he were a better emperor, he might not need to take concubines at all. But as the novel said, he wanted to take it all. OK so this was actually a wife-chasing crematorium, I think it's one of the first I've read of this genre, so take my review with a grain of salt.

... more>> As a lover of angst and dog blood, this was right up my alley, spiced with some *clap* great *clap* court drama *clap* and rebirth *clap*.

I'm gonna be honest, both MC and ML aren't the most perfect people and the beginning chapters (HAH oh my god like until chap 40) the relationship between the two is pretty terrible and generally very unhealthy. MC is very paranoid and obsessive, while ML has other difficulties (ummm so I guess it may be spoilers so I'm leaving it blank).

The two characters are extremely flawed and by no means great guys, but the author really fleshes out how complex and multi-faceted they are.

Uh, so about the dog blood, there are a LOT of tags involved, so check them first before reading, but honestly I'm pretty tolerant myself so I didn't mind. But I wouldn't trust any reviews that are based off how the tags or how the characters are written... they have their reasons for becoming so twisted and terrible. The characters are also really realistic, like how MC states that he can't, and won't, love ML so obsessively like before.

As for the couple, the story becomes really fluffy near the end, so hold out for it, THE FINISH LINE IS THERE!!!

So in a nutshell, if a dog blooded, greatly well-written angst novel with a sweet ending is for you, read this gem!

There where many times this story made my heart ache. If it can do that I’d say it was an amazing enough story and I definitely recommend it if you in the mood for some angst 😩

the MC stayed firm and didn’t fully give in til like the last minute and the ML, oh hearing how he lived like after the MC died was so sorrowful it felt great and depressing at the same time. In my opinion this is a 5/5

This novel is good. Heartbreaking. Sad. The MC is as much cause for what happened in their past lives as the ML. The ML didn't communicate things that should have been communicated but times when he tired, in their past life, the MC didn't believe him or thought he was thinking too much. So when it came to big issues the ML felt it wasn't necessary to tell the MC because he didn't want the MC to worry too much. Everything the ML did for the MC after his death... more>> was too much, in my books, even the MC said he probably wouldn't have the same if he was in the ML's situation. The MC thought he was the only one who could love crazily but the ML loves even crazier. <<less

This is one of those novels that isn't what it seems. Once I finished it I had to re-read it because the context of the work changed after my first read. The MC and ML are not likeable to begin with but the further the story develops the more you understand their behaviors and actions. This is a story about complicated people in a complex relationship. Great work by the translation team.

I'm a sucker for scum gong redemption story and lo and behold, this stumbled into my rec and how could I stop myself from reading? Suffice to say that I bawled my eyes out in the middle of the night reading this and no regrets at all.

In my opinion, the way MC stopped loving ML so abruptly at early chapters (post his su*cide) wasn't so realistic, because you just can't stop loving someone all of a sudden without waging war with yourself, trapped between pain of betrayal and several years worth of love. But hey, not all story needs to be realistic and I just want to put my own two cents on this.

this is such a good story. I went into this not really expecting much beyond the standard wife-chasing crematorium stuff, but wow. The characters here are so fleshed out, every single one feels like a real human being. You can really understand the thoughts and feelings of even the side characters. Like the MC's mom, who appears like just the standard mom side character, until you finish the extras and can see her as a whole human being. All of the plot threads are perfectly dealt with by the end... more>> of the book, so there's a real sense of closure once you finish reading. Also the extras were so nostalgic and beautiful, it felt like I was watching the events play out right before my very eyes. The translations really did a good job of capturing the spirit of the text!

there were moments when I considered dropping this book, but I am so so glad I pushed through. I very rarely recommend books as highly as I am right now, but seriously, this novel blew me away. 10/10 for sure! <<less

Not a true 5 star, but I really enjoy MC and ML’s misery as cry when I read the tragedy of their past life. Both of them are smart, love each other, yet still fell for the villain’s tactic resulted in the tragic ending.

Fortunately they restart again, and ML’s persists to amend our MC. Some part of the story frustrates me due to the repetition, unclear lines of their past and present, or the MC’s stubbornness for leaving and not giving ML another chance. But yet, if you love someone... more>> too deep, when the love burns out, it will be so hard to forgive.

There’s part near the end of story where ML hide and eat in the kitchen, waiting for MC, while MC eat outside with his friends. I pity him, yet ML do his monolog, this is what MC do for more than 10 years. Waiting for ML. Because ML is busy, MC have to wait, and wait, and wait again. Including wait for ML to be back from his “duty” visiting his harem. So in this life, ML know the misery of the obsessive love MC once felt for him in their past life, and he smiled when decide now he will be the one who will wait for MC while MC start to enjoy his life, not again tied himself and wholly devoted to ML like in his past.

Overall this might not a 5 star, but good mature story, with good translation, deserve highest rating from me! <<less
