The Supporting Male Character Just Wants to Be a Tool Man

Shen QingShu, 22, died in an accident. His biggest regret before his death was that he’d been single all his life. He obviously wasn’t a monk, but he’d never eaten meat.

Then, when he opened his eyes, he saw a handsome, self-assured man standing before him. The handsome man parted his thin lips slightly and asked, “Wanna have a one-night stand?”

Shen QingShu didn’t hesitate at all. “Let’s do it! Twice!”

The next morning, Shen QingShu woke up aching all over. Only then did he discover he’d transmigrated into a book. The handsome guy beside him who’d gone two rounds with him was the protagonist gong, Han Cheng, the second son of the Han Group.

And the original owner of this body was just a disliked, death-seeking cannon fodder.

Shen QingShu: …Well, this is f*cking awkward.

But Shen QingShu didn’t panic. Anyway, he was just a cannon fodder. He figured they’d part in a few days

He knew he was a tool man, a character who only existed to develop the plot.

-Half a year later-

Shen QingShu looked at the man next to him and wondered: It’s been more than six months. Why hasn’t he left already?

Until the day he saw the protagonist shou and Han Cheng meet by accident.

Tool man Shen QingShu immediately felt the call of duty. Eyes shining, he prepared to push the plot forward.

“Don’t come looking for me in the future.” Shen QingShu was extremely self-aware.

Han Cheng was shocked. “Why? Do you have feelings for someone else? Who is it?”

Shen QingShu: … Darling, this reaction isn’t quite right.

“I don’t accept this,” Han Cheng said, furious. “One day as husband and wife means a hundred days of grace. Can you even calculate how much grace we have?”

Shen QingShu: … No, wait, what are you talking about? It’s not like I’m your wife. I’m just a tool man, and it’s time for me to go offline!

However, Shen QingShu found that not only did the protagonist gong refuse to let him go offline, he was going to make him his bride!

Shen QingShu: I’m crying.

It is one of those must read one's for fluff and enjoyment.

My fav character is ofcourse ML bro. I wanted him for myself but author gave him to Mc's bro.

No brain dead MC or possessive, indifferent ml.

... more>> Rather a very smart MC and a very gentle funny ML with worthy Oscar acting skills.

Everyone is an actor here.

Side characters are amazing except antagonists

The most annoying person is ori shou. Yaa he is like the whole world should revolve around him despite the fact he has no charms as such. I really hate him for destroying/using ML in original parallel world. ML is such an angel, he deserves only MC who loves him so much that he is ready to let him go if ML is more happy with oriMC (which he won't be) .

Annoying people parts are cured by the fluff so don't worry. <<less

Im not even done reading but I have already decided on 5⭐️ for this novel. 5 chapters in and im already laughing till my stomach hurts. The cars, greentea, and teacup dog is killing me omgoodness. THE BURN N FACE SLAP IS SO SATISFYING AHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHA IM DED

I LOVE THE MC *wipe tears away*

The ML is also very funny though. The way he says something then 10secs later he takes it back cause that reaction was totally not what he was expecting hahaha. They really suit each other well 🥲

IM DONE.... more>> Anyways this novel is very funny although a little dramatic. If you're looking for something that can make you laugh then this novel is really perfect. Other than that, the novel is also super sweet. I felt like they just dunked truckloads full of sugar on me. The MC and ML really love each other 🥹🥹 their love felt so pure and genuine, like wanting the best for each other.

This novel is long ngl. The first half of it is more like resolving friends and family conflict and getting to know each other. As well as some dramas. The second half will be focused more on their relationship itself. Quite nice if you have the time to read. Also, the extras were vvvvv sweet.

Spoiler

for example, HC proposed to SQS in the novel world in the extras. Then when the both of them kind of return back to SQS's world, HC proposed in the same way again 🥲

"I love you." He heard Han Cheng whisper in his ear.

He felt Han Cheng hugging him from behind, with his profile against his.

"The sunset is the end of a new day, and I like Qingqing very much today."

"When the sun rises, a new day begins, and I like Qingqing very much; when the sun sets, a new day ends, and I also like Qingqing very much. Every day there is a new sunrise and sunset. Every day, I like Qingqing very much."

"So..."

Han Cheng pressed Shen Qingshu's shoulder and made him turn to face himself.

He looked at his young, handsome, lively and splendid lover, and his voice was moving and sincere, "So, can Qingqing marry me? In this world, marry me again."

He once proposed to him at sunrise and said that he would love him every day, but now, at sunset, he proposed to him again and promised him his love again.

Shen Qingshu nodded involuntarily, and responded softly, "Yes, of course."

3.5/5

So firstly, I agree with most of the reviewers in that it's TOO LONG. The premise is that he becomes a tool man once the main protagonist of the world appears but it took forever for that to happen and when he did, it only lasted a couple of chapters. It's obvious that the plot won't go the way it's supposed to since they spent months with each other already culminating their feelings.

But that aside, I think this is quite the funny story. I saw some reviews that mentioned a... more>> lot of the face slapping was unnecessary but it coincides with the characters' settings.

Spoiler

SQ doesn't want to have HC as proper backing, he wants to stand on his own, so he tries to resolve things by himself. Although HC still helps him on the down low, he also says he knows SQ has to develop by himself and also showcase his own talent to be loved by others and not just by him, because he thinks he's that great. That's why they waited until SQ has enough of a background to stand beside HC, and he just cheered him on and showed support in his own way without abusing his power as a rich second-generation.

[collapse]

Its entertaining and funny but alas, the translation isn't quite up to par. Aside from the usual grammatical errors, there are times where whole words/phrases are missing so I end up just skipping that entire sentence altogether. There were also times when the names are incorrect so it's hard to tell who's talking. I.e. SQ said "". "", Replied SQ - so it's like he's talking to himself.

Overall a good read, but the translation quality (although I applaud the TL, I would just like to suggest getting an editor?) and how long it is really bums me out, hence the 3.5. The length especially, since at some point the plot (since it's pretty generic as danmei goes) gets so repetitive that I have to put it down. The sugar in this is great though so if you're a fan of fluff, highly recommend! <<less

5 star comedy + 5 star romance

First part is mostly comedy which is just hilarious. 👌 Although maybe people new to chinese humor would feel lost but I’m enlightened to it so I practically read every chapter smiling and chuckling. Every. Chapter. (Except for when drama happens which is maybe just a handful or two)

But my favourite is definitely the romance. Oh sweet, sweet romance. Their chemistry is just so mm-hmm *chef’s kiss*. Even individually, I love both MC and ML I want to keep them in a cage... more>> for me to watch (lol). But them together is 10x the sugar I’m so high in dopamine.

And ML just set the bar too high. How else do I live? 😞 I actually finished reading this yesterday and for a whole day I’ve been looking for something else to read but no other ML could satisfy me. ☹️☹️☹️ Their love is so beautiful and heartwarming I swim in honey. I don’t think I‘ve read a dynamic like their own before.

Aside from MC and ML, other characters were also very lovable. Especially elder brother and Xiao Bai 😆. Wu Yang was also funny.

Altho the antagonists I find very stereotypically deranged and nonsensical. But I’m not here for them nor their drama anyway so I’m good with this. What’s more, because of them there were a lot of hilarious ‘plays’. 🤣 Overall, definitely a must read. <<less

Relationship 10/5

Plot... 4.5/5 slowly falling down to 3/5

If a relationship this good was paired with a plot that doesn't make you consider dropping any time it focuses on anything other than the relationship, it would be my favorite novel ever. It's clear that the author loves MC dearly and wants to smother him with success and happiness, regardless of whether it's interesting to read or not.

As my writing teacher said "the more victories your character has, the less readers will care about the next one" and this is the case... more>> where it's hard to care anymore.

I still recommend people to read it, though. It will take a lot of chapters before those problems appear. If you do get bored, you can drop it, but do at least give it a chance.

Also, if anyone knows novels with similar relationships (supporting, fully consensual, don't treat s*x as the ultimate holy thing in a relationship but focus on building emotional bonds instead) plz message me. I am DESPERATE for more novels like this. <<less

This is the kind of novel that just gets better and better as the plot progresses.

warning spoilers ahead.

first of all what was completely unique and stood out to me was how the novel started off immediately with the ML and MC being s*x friends or more appropriately fu*k buddies since they never had any prior friendship really. it was interesting to watch how the ML and MC were satisfied with the night that they would keep going on... though I must admit that their relationship was basically dating with the... more>> amount of intimacy and their level of interaction.

what truly enrichened this novel were all the side characters, antagonists and even passers-by. the level of comedy and parody in this was mind-blowing. I actually regret the author not having had more of those with the ML's family included...i would love to have seen that. The ML's friends and little comments made the story so much fun.

on that note, I honestly have to appreciate this ML. There is will be no more of an understanding, gentle and loving male such as him... truly his love has no bounds and he is the kind of man anyone would hope for. He kept their relationship healthy, fun, engaging... avoided misunderstandings, was trustful and honest... amazing. tbh reading about cold ML's where they scare and avoid MC's friends getting jealous and are extremely possessive is so tiring. this guy is stable, and mature yet is still approachable. will be jealous reasonably does his best not to restrict his partner, and realises when he's gone too far. acknowledges the MC's efforts, treatment, love and care.

the mutual love and pampering are just *chef's kiss.

I highly recommend this for a good dose of romance, comedy, proactive MC, mutual pampering., A healthy relationship, playful banter with friends/family/lover, a male lead who is a ball of sunshine lighting up the MC's world and so so SO much more...

this novel just gets more interesting as the plot further develops, if you feel like it suddenly is bland just wait for a chapter and you'll never regret going on...I almost dropped it cuz I was in the mood for something more exciting and thank the lord I read the next chapter cuz god do I know what I could have missed!

everything is solved well and no loopholes are left. nobody should or ever could regret reading this...

the worldbuilding, character background, plot, execution, story flow, main cp, side characters basically-EVERYTHING is well done.

never been more satisfied. I don't even need to read the extras to be content. well done to the author and lovely translator who can make this fine work of art able to truly bring out its potential.

I 100% recommend it. <<less

Thank goodness I waited for the translator to update halfway before reading. I love the dynamics of the relationship and they were absolutely hilarious together. I actually don’t mind the car/driver references, it’s like their own special inside joke. I didn’t get it at first but it makes sense and it’s kinda funny if you think about it. Plot has face slapping and MC’s career succeeding, but I’m really just desperate for the fluff between MC/ML.

I love this story. This is such a genuinely healthy and loving partnership, it's a breath of fresh air in a genre populated with toxic and dub-con relationships. Shen Qingshu and Han Cheng are really kind to each other, they communicate, they compromise, they collaborate on mutual goals. Every chapter is full of them respecting each other's opinions, values, goals, autonomy and health. The s*x is - and I cannot stress this enough - fully consensual every time and it's always discussed in advance what they're both willing to do. It's fade to black for the actual deed, but the discussion of it before and after is almost always shown. I'm so amazed by this aspect of the story that even if the rest was bad, it would make the story readable.

But the rest isn't bad, the rest is amazing too. Shen Qingshu and Han Cheng are so damn hilarious, every chapter made me laugh. They're into role-playing, so the whole plot of the fic so far is just them trolling all their family and friends. They haven't yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if they started role-playing during s*x too at some point.

The familial relationships are on point. Han Cheng's healthy family dynamic contrasted with Shen Qingshu's toxic one makes for a really compelling parallel. Han Cheng's brother is a national treasure and I will defend him until the day I die. I'm president of Han Yu's fan club, please and thank you. He's always teasing Han Cheng but also always defending him. Shen Qingshu's brother, Shen Qingyu, is something of a mixed bag. He's awful but also pitiable, disgusting and tragic at the same time. He's trying to survive, it's just that he thinks the only way to do it is to pull Shen Qingshu down. In his defense, the Shen parents are so terrible that it probably is the only way for him to survive.

There are a lot of friendships so far too. Han Cheng's group of friends are hilarious, especially when they tease Han Cheng, and the main couple's friendship with Bai Xuege, an underage acting star, is really cute and hilarious.

There isn't any relationship drama so far. The 'white moonlight' showed up but it didn't upset Han Cheng's and Shen Qingshu's relationship at all, they trust each other too mush for that. The only relationship drama is them trolling others and making up scandals for their own twisted amus**ent.

[collapse]

All in all, this story is a gem, and I highly recommend it to anyone grossed out by all the coercion, manipulation and outright abuse so common in most bl c-novels.

I won't say much 'cause although imma still at ch. 13, I dunno if I'm reading a malexmale or humanxcar, although I know it has another meaning on it sometimes I forgot and be confused for a sec 'cause of the idioms used in the novel that is so utterly confusing and annoying

I have high expectations 'cause of the others reviews to this novel but... nah. Recommended for those who are highly tolerant and understanding individuals out there.

And here I thought why I still get notifications about this novel on the forum (thanks to all who left likes on the spoiler thread :))

If I had an idea that this was picked up and added to the NU I'd run to leave my two cents. And here they are :'D you can imagine me dramatically throwing few coins in.

When I started reading this novel it was still on-going (thus the spoiler thread was opened) and it was actually quite fun. It didn't have the weirdest beginning out... more>> of all time, so it had an ok start and fun continuation to it. But after most conflicts were resolved the story was basically dragged out and author also added like a hundred extras after that. You can't say that all sh*t started to break loose, but honestly the overdragged style to put more just moved this novel from the "good" to "ok". In the end my rating for it would be around 3, 5 / 5.

Let's start from something positive:

    • Refreshing things to me when MCs don't act according to routines, it was really good to my heart to see how MC didn't put the green tea brother in his eyes and didn't play around and mostly said things right into people's faces, although he did play the script with ML, but you know what I mean if you read. Sometimes I like reading more of queenly MCs who don't forbear.
    • I really liked the idea of ML not being far in age from MC. And him not being the cold-blooded type of president. It was refreshing to read a character like that. Because some maturity he acquired while being with MC, despite their constant childishness of playing roles in front of other people. And he also has an older brother, so it's understandable why he grew up this way, more unrestrained and free. It also gave MC ideas that he likes ML the way he is and he doesn't want him to change like in the "original" story that he read, where ML had to always compromise and bow down to situations simply losing himself. Not to mention that basically he was used as a stand-in to others two times.
    • The story is light-hearted, has a load of humor, doesn't drag on conflicts and the main set knot at the beginning (MC waiting to move on when the original "destined" person arrives) is resolved rather quickly.
    • It actually has more or less developed side-characters that are fun to bring in. Like the older brother, I liked how he made fun of ML with good humor and others. Ahahaha just remember about the SQS victims assosiation.
But in the end, some of these positive things had a negative effect on the story for me. It's all personal opinion and you have all the right to disagree. When I read it, sometime I felt that the situations of MC and ML playing roles in front of others or their ideas of playing scripts was overused, it also felt strange how others, mostly everyone, believed in their bs. I just felt that the amount of those situations was a little too much, so it lost its' original freshness. Shortly, many jokes were overused.

I also felt that the whole knot and MC's attitude towards the original story and "destined" partner was a bit weird and also quite selfish, because when time came he simply one-sidedly decided for both of them. At other times he didn't lack IQ to analyze things and people, but when it came to main conflict it became like that and it felt strange that his trigger was seeing the "protagonist" having an ambiguous relationship with a man similar to ML instead of his own selfishness and deep love for ML that he decided to push the "protag" away and leave ML to himself and give him the love he deserves. Maybe at least dealing with the MC's "brother" was handled better. But that villain guy really smelled of being portrayed quite one-dimensional, so...

Since I'm not really surprised to see the story after the conflicts a bit dragged out and also having ton of extras, after all it's the author's style, so I won't mention it in greater details. It just exists and it's a fact.

All in all it's a fine read, very easy, simply for leisure reading, doesn't have too many negative things to mention, follows the author's style and routines and that is basically it.

It's funny to me how eventually I evaluate their novels in the same way, like they're definitely not bad, but I can't put them on display. When it started ti was possible to compliment and have big expectation, but by the end of it your expectations and opinions start to cool off :'D <<less

I shouldn't have put off this novel for a long time coz I regret not reading it right away now that it has become one of my favorite novels now!

I love everytbing! The MC, ML, the friends, wholesome.

But my favorite character would definitely be the ML's brother, Han Yu! Lmfao! He's so funny and so prvrted! 🤣🤣 Everything he has scenes in the novel, you'll really laugh out loud! I love how the author made this book really fun to read and despite the longgg chapters, which is the reason I... more>> put this off for a long time, is that it's VERY GOOD!

I'm not kidding, this book is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK!

The extras as well is wholesome. If you're still doubting this, now I'm telling you, let go of the doubt coz I 100% tell you how you'll be plunge in the world of this novel with so much fun, emotion, plot, everything! JUST READ IT!!!! <<less

Other people had already reviewed and I'd just give 4.5 stars here for HILARIOUS and INCREDIBLE character dynamics but it felt a bit short from 5 stars bc yes it's a bit too long.

ANYWAYS, I just wanna say, DID ANYBODY REALIZE THAT THE AUTHOR BASICALLY SLIPPED THEIR WRITERSONA IN SHEN QINGSHU?? 🤣🤣🤣 They're both an author who writes various novels but essentially with the same CP in different circumstances and different personalities 🤣🤣🤣 you'd see that in many of this Author's novels, especially the transmigration ones, the MC has 'Qing' in... more>> their names and the ML has 'Chen/Cheng', same with Shen Qingshu who only writes about Su Qing and Cheng Han 🤣🤣🤣

First, Yan Qingchi & Jiang Mochen in [Transmigrated into the Film Emperor's Death-Seeking Fiance]

Then, Ji Qingzhou & Chu Cheng in [Reborn As The Villain President's Lover]

Then, Shen Qingshu & Han Cheng in [The Supporting Male Character Just Wants to Be a Tool Man]

Then, Ling Qing & Yu Chen in [The Film Emperor Asks for Divorce Every Day]

And then there's Su Qingci & Wen Yicheng in [Transmigrating as a Stand-in Canon Fodder for President Wen] 🤣🤣🤣

mind you all the shous are budding film emperors and all the gongs are CEOs 🤣🤣🤣 <<less

This couple was absolutely made for each other.

Their banter, their affection, their honesty, and their mutual care for each other. Just *chef's kiss*. Truly an idiots-to-lover trope but done so so well.

You'll be stuffed with dog food but you'll devour it willingly. And you'll eat it while laughing. I don't think I've laughed so much while reading a novel.

This is the second novel I've read from this author and another reviewer mentioned that the author loves to write about doting MLs, but Han Cheng takes the cake. He's perfect in... more>> everyway, but not in a way where you roll your eyes. He's truly a product of his upbringing. And in the same way Shen Qingshu is (his life before the transmigration), thus they really do share the same values which makes their relationship constantly grow and in a healthy way. And they truly want the best for each other. They consistently encourage the other to grow and appreciate what the have, whether it's career (Han Cheng never stops Shen Qingshu from taking a role no matter how jealous he is) or family (Shen Qingshu always tells him ito spend time more time with family even if it means leaving him alone for a holiday).

The story goes how you'd expect it to go but without the kind of drama you expect. There's definitely drama but every hurdle they face is really just an opportunity for them to show the different ways they care for each other and why they ultimately decide the other person is their soulmate.

Because the ML is the O!ML I was worried about how they'd handle the O!MC. But this novel does a great job of handling the O!MC's character without turning him into a second-rate villain.

Overall I highly recommend it. Someone mentioned that the translations may need a bit of editing, but it's leagues better than MTLs and the translator provides a lot of context and background, especially since a lot of the jokes require the text to be almost verbatim for it to carry.

Yes, it's long, and yet, I kind of wish it didn't end. <<less

well it started off well, the MC's personality was funny but as it progresses it goes from funny to ridiculous and unnecessary, for example he is filming a movie and the secondary characters come to annoy him clearly he can do something but he doesn't, he starts acting as if had no backing, very unnecessary and boring, he also starts to fake plays left and right, for example, he is accused of breeding a snake, clearly not so he can slap people revealing that the snake is from the main... more>> star of the show but instead he goes on to create a whole dog blood drama about being wronged, letting himself be insulted and even getting the star to cooperate with him. Is it really necessary to be so ridiculous? I don't understand, and his behavior no longer makes me laugh, it's boring to see him offended all the time... <<less

Am I the only one who absolutly adore Han Yu? He is the best elder brother and so hilerious! And the company aunties are also to die for!

The MC & ML are cute and fluffy and do give regulary candy! But the novel is so outstanding b/c of the rich side characters and the comedy. And what I also really like is that there is NO s*upid misunderandings between out love birds! They do know how to communicate!!! O.O And the relationship is balanced, not like in the s*upid novel... more>> novel where poor Han Cheng has to put up with all of the previous protagnist s*upidity and unwillingness to coperate!

This novel is a good choice if you are looking for an easy read to wind down; it's both hilarious and fluffy. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table if you are an old-time reader and you are familiar with the switched at birth, showbiz, and transmigration themes but it will make you feel good if you like a couple that actually communicates and has good dynamics.

I'm knocking off a star from the rating because I'll be stopping my journey with this book at ch.142. I was entertained... more>> all the way up to this chapter and there's nothing in particular I can point to that makes me drop the story, I can only say that I'm feeling it's 213 + 59 extras chapter count. At this point the adopted brother has been dealt with, and I can barely believe this feat was accomplished legally, it's so rare to happen with this trope. Although there are still some steps left to take in the main characters' relationship, the story already feels complete enough to me that I don't feel this burning need to know what comes after. I guess there's still MC's career to develop but I've read enough showbiz themed novels to not be interested in that. <<less

The novel up to chapter 135 is more like 4 stars. Chapter 135 would have been a great place to end the story, with a couple of fluffy extras it would have been great. The author kept going and I increasingly got bored.

I didn't understand the other reviewers dislike/confusion of him writing until the later chapters, it really does come out of left field.

his first novel is BL mpreg smut and he aquires a loyal following, the next book is about a sweet campus love BL story, then all of a sudden he writes a masterpiece crime drama with no cp that gets made into a movie..... like wtf he just randomly writes and it's so good it becomes that great.

Not to mention I was not a fan of him using ML's identity to hide that he is the writer, or that he locks away his first novel because it's too embarrassing, have some balls man. Also that was the whole point of having 2 accounts so what happened there? It's even mentioned that the 2nd account is the one that wrote the crime drama but somehow it's linked to the car account?

Also the comedy in the begining which was fun has now become tiring. I got to chapter 170 and just couldn't care to go on. I loved the ML but the MC was mediocre, I can't exactly pinpoint what I didn't like but he was just not my type.

The translation is great. I got impatient and read the MTL which for the most part is understandable, some parts I was a little lost. If you can wait I would say stick with the translation, the translator does a great job explaining things. <<less

Highly recommended.

The interactions between MC and ML and with other characters are so f-ing funny🤣🤣🤣. Oh My God.

Read it. Read it. Read it.

Do you like 'possesive' ML who would give MC 'cage', lock MC in 'small black room', etc??? Then READ THIS!! If you don't like that kind of ML, then READ THIS!! I am serious😶

This story also contains 'white moonlight', 'spare-tire', 'fake/real young master', 'original mc', I mean anything you could think of... I am serious😶

WAHHHHHH, Qingqing and Chengcheng really fed me full of dog food. I really enjoyed this novel so I'm giving it 5 stars despite its flaws. I'd just share my observations of this novel in my review. PROS:

I really liked that there were no s*upid misunderstandings between the main couple. Chengcheng is a very silly gong but that's whats differentiates him from the other overbearing CEO gongs.

Spoiler

I feel like his brother would fit the stereotype of powerful, cold and overbearing CEO gongs but Han Yu was also a bit silly and very passionate towards his family.

I definitely recommend this novel to anyone who loves mutual pampering gong-shou relationships where neither side falls in love instantly and chases the other while the other partner is very indecisive and inactive in the relationship. I really love their dynamics. They both love each other and show it in their oen ways. Qingqing is def not like those usual naive and white lotus shous who don't take initiative. Make no mistake, they are a powerful pair.

I also liked that there were no uncessary face slappings in this novel. The MC wasn't that invested in revenge and doesn't really suppress the villains unless they provoke him first.
Spoiler

If they do provoke him, he just uses his sharp tongue and wit to make them choke in anger lol

[collapse]

CONS:

The villains were a bit two- dimensional but they did serve their purpose in making the story flow better and developing the main leads relationship. Some scenes were a bit too dramatic and unrealistic, I would def prefer if those scenes were less exaggerated. One or two of those scenes are okay but too much and even I got a bit annoyed by it.
