Ohhh my god, this was so good. This entire novel is a face slapping novel from the get go. At first, they just give us crumbs about who the MC is seeing as she's recently deceased and then there's the people left behind who are either rejoicing, apathetic or mourning. I'm convinced MC is loved by God himself (or the author lol) since she's a very religious and kind person and there are awfully a lot of carriage accidents related to those who wants to harm her and a lot... more>> of coincidences that works in her favor.

It was short and very enjoyable! I mtl-ed it in one sitting.

Spoiler

The MC, Lorona, isn't dead. In fact she didn't even know that she's been declared as one. After the broken engagement, she went to the nursing home since it's the birthday of one of the kids there and she was burning with fever so she had to stay and she sent her maid back. Maid was a b*tch, a noble wannabe, and she wore MC's dress and dyed her hair silver to go to the shantytown and ruin MC's reputation further. She was the body recovered that everyone thought was the MC. MC had been down with fever for five days, and when she woke up, everything was over and everyone has gotten their just desserts.

For the ML
Spoiler

His name is Aslan. I honestly skipped a lot of his POVs since I read the novel to see scum suffer Aslan is the prince of a neighboring Empire and he's a very dedicated man. The whole entire downfall of MC's shitty family and prince can be attributed to his hardwork. In his words: "I wished I kidnapped her so she wouldn't have to die." He does whisk her away to the Empire after they have a heart-to-heart talk though.

This was really well made, or at least that is how Google Translate makes it fee like.

I want to call this a short story with how... simplistic the storyline is. We see a wide range of events occur due to the death of our MC, from her family and its estate, the royal family she was engaged to, and some mercantile company.

First of all, we really don’t get to know our MC, we get her POV like 3-4 times tops. She’s basically described as a beautiful and wise kuudere. Her... more>> family is disfunctional, like, no one in that family is OK in the head. Most of the significant characters are delusional in some style, some of them can grow as characters while others don’t.

There’s an amazing plot twist that is out of the blue but is reasonable at the same time.
Spoiler

She didn’t die, she wasn’t even on the carriage but it was her personal maid dressed as her trying to destroy her honor since getting her engagement broken in public wasn’t bad enough.

[collapse]

There’s also an overarching plot about an inheretance fight between the Empire and it spills into the Kingdom (where MC lives) but while it doesn’t get fully touched, it does get explained. It’s open ended but you have enough information to assume or imagine what will happen. <<less

There's actually nothing new about this story, it's typical face slapping moments after engagement annulment but the one who took revenge wasn't MC herself but people around her who loved and cared about her. MC herself was too kind for her own good so it's nearly impossible for her to take revenge even if she's wronged. I didn't particularly like this type of MC but the face slapping moments in this story still felt very satisfying.

Don't worry though, although the story was tagged as tragedy, it's actually a happy ending... more>> story.

Spoiler

MC was actually still alive and she decided to keep being dead because ML told her that people around her were doing fine without her and they're already moved on with their life. It's a lie of course because they're far from doing fine. It's just ML's manipulation because he knew that MC would surely go back if she learnt about her family's condition. ML only wanted to keep MC for himself.

I don't know if being with ML was good for MC. She wanted freedom after her "death" but ML was going to be an emperor and MC would surely become his empress. And if that happened, MC would lose her freedom again and would be trapped forever inside the palace. And worst of it, ML didn't tell MC any of it before taking her to his kingdom, probably because he feared that MC would reject him if she knew.

I'm dropping this at 45. It hasn't exactly been the most engaging story but it was enough for me to idly read and follow along. The characters aren't the most realistic, but I love a good salty fallout where people realize how much someone else has been carrying. The fact that the chapters are so short is mostly why I kept reading - it takes maybe three minutes to read a chapter. I wanted to see how everything was connected and how it would fall out, despite the fairly shallow... more>> characterizations.

However, with chapter 45 I realized there is only one character who doesn't exist solely to hurt the MC - and it certainly isn't the ML. This isn't shaping up to be a story of righteous face slapping, it's shaping up to be continued abuse, so I'm out. Specifics of what was done in the spoiler -

Spoiler

So the MC isn't actually dead. Obviously, I think we all expected that. But she doesn't know what's been going on at home while she's been sick in the country. The ML lies to her to manipulate her into coming with him back to his own country. He knows she'll find out the truth some day but says by then it'll be too late. He'll have trapped her in a political marriage away from anyone who has ever known her. She'll be nice and isolated and alone.

This is manipulative and vile, and I can't cheer for scum like that. This was supposed to be a story about people who exploited the MC finding out how hard it is without her, and the MC finally having a nice cherished life. As of chapter 45, it's a story about people who exploited the MC finding out how hard life is without her and also more people continuing the cycle of abuse to exploit her for their own gains.

It feels bad to read, I don't trust the author to turn this around, I'm dropping this story with disgust.

Loved the execution of this short story; even if it's not perfect, it was plenty enjoyable for a face-slapping horrible fiance & family type of story.

I have to say, with all the various money troubles that these characters run into after her death, Lorona is the equivalent of a walking god of wealth - with her there, your bottomless pit of luxury spending can still be sustained like a miracle, but the moment she leaves, boom, everyone is in debt, nobody can make money, even the little bit she helped... more>> you save will get used up to cover your dumbass mistakes, leaving you at net profit zero. This isn't realistic, necessarily, but it's very enjoyable to see financial consequences for everyone's reckless actions & willful ignorance of how the world works. Lorona was truly like an unappreciated guardian diety for everyone's money, & I wish we could have seen her pov more. <<less

A short story about a selfless character's death and the resulting repercussions.

Lorona Ruth is a selfless character. She cares deeply about those around her, but is stoic in nature bottling up her emotions. This leads to many around her thinking poorly of her "cold" demeanor even after her death. These same people never realized how much she carried on her shoulders. The father sees her as nothing but a trophy he can boast about to his drinking buddies, but he never shows her any fatherly love. The step-sister is a... more>> white lotus... pretty on the outside, but rotten on the inside. The same can be said about the shrewish step-mother who only cares about buying precious jewels and gaudy dresses regardless of cost.

Spoiler

Lorona and the estate accountant both know that the estate finances are failing, so Lorona finds a down on his luck businessman to assist him as an advisor in revitailizing his business in exchange for a 30% cut of the profits. All this so she can pay for her household's reckless spending.

[collapse]

My biggest gripe with the story would be the fact that every character is one-dimensional they have only two states. Their either a**holes or regretful there isn't much range of emotion beyond that. The second would be the pacing of multiple POVs toward the end.

Spoiler

After some events nearing the ending of the story, both the step-mother and step-sister stop appearing. The father continues to appear up till the end, but the other two aren't even mentioned again. So we get a short glimpse of the white lotus feeling regret, but the step-mother never once shows any kind regrets before disappearing.

Lorona Ruth does get her own happy ending though with her childhood prince charming. Yes she didn't actually die.

It was a short but satisfying read. If you are after karma, this one serves in heaps. There are also some character developments, but bot everyone gets a happy ending. MC can be criticized for being a pushover till things literally just fell in perfect order to give her a way out.

I wish they had a fast forward epilogue, would've loved to hear how much more the story progressed.

This is an ok switch from what I normally read, the length is good enough and does not drag unnecessarily. American Faux... more>> PS's are also funny. <<less

I don’t usually write reviews but seeing as there aren’t any about this novel, I decided someone needed to say something.

First of all I would like to make it clear that I only read the mtl, so maybe things were lost in translation but I decided to give this a read and was disappointed.

I was intrigued because of the title. reading tragedies where everyone who wrongs a character suffers after their death is my guilty pleasure.

In this novel however, the characters are not only terrible (personality-wise) but also incredibly unrealistic.... more>> They feel one dimensional and only serve to highlight how pitiful the MC is for being surrounded by awful people. The motivations behind characters are too shallow for them to act out the way they do so it doesn’t make sense either.

Right from the start this novel uses cliches that you can find in every other broken-engagement novel. The cliches aren’t so much of a problem as the writing is though, because let’s be real, we all like a good cliche occasionally... if it’s executed well.

I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just leave it at if you’re new to these tropes and like angst you might enjoy this but if you’ve read enough novels with similar plots you’ll find that this one is a waste time

(Took at the look at the fan translation and it’s way better than mtl tho so maybe you guys will be fine) <<less

Normally I dont read female lead stories since I dont like the female pov only when it comes to romance. But since this is mostly focused on the story rather than romance, I gave it a shot.

This is a very satisfying karma story. Focused on the happenings after the lead is out of the picture. The audience is treated with pov stories on the fall out and mostly karma stuff.

The story also isnt like most online novels that drag on to forever. It has a proper conclusion and we get... more>> just enough chapters in my opinion. Ending on a high note so we dont get tired of it.

Very nice read <<less

I read the full main story from these links and mtl the extra chapters.

This story was fun. MC pretty much didn't appear at all, only in the past flashback. It was similar to the Sleeping beauty story.

I didn't like the ml, he lied to her. I knew it was for her good. But he didn't have that right.

Spoiler

I read the extra chapters using mtl, so I might misunderstand it. Kaiser was gay, he loved the prince.

The prince didn't know it, even until the end of the story. Kaiser gave up his love.

I was surprised, I thought extra chapters would be about the future of MC and ml.

[collapse]

There was pretty much 0 romance in the story. MC and ML were friends. It was an open ending. I hope MC would be happy. ML kinda s**ked, at least he loved her. <<less

Nothing amazing but a nice short read. The series effectively takes place across 5 days following the death of Lorona. If there's a complaint it's that everything is way too convenient. Some incidents are triggered as a chain reaction to her death but there's others that borders on plot convenience ... more>>

her younger sister conveniently having her life ruined by a caravan crash, the entire plot is initiated entirely by an accident

.

The characters for the most part are at least more fleshed out then in a typical short story, the Father is actually written fairly well as a narcissist who grieves about his daughter's death only in so much as it affects his reputation. The former fiancee, step mom and younger sister are all at least fleshed out enough that they have personality and conflict with each other. Rather then the stereotypical everyone whose evil getting along and only being affected when someone outside their circle gets revenge.

All in all it's not bad, nothing amazing. And just comes down to everyone happening just being too convenient. But a decent short read none the less. <<less

MC isn't dead. I kinda predicted that but wrong about body that appear to be fake MC. The one really died is mc's personal maid and she is noble wannabe, stealing her master clothes and fake her identity to tried to ruin MC reputation more.

Pretty solid

The story is very short, which helps keep the momentum, and the satisfaction of the revelations, its a typical wishy-washy scenario, and it embraces it, making for a very entertaining read

Just read it, worst case scenario you will only lose a few minutes for the first chapters

this is the type of novel where the author will do lengths just to have their protagonist be as pitiful as possible.

writing characters with depth? Nah. Let's make them as evilly cliche as possible! And make them s*upid too! Well while were at it, let's make sure that the MC is so nice, she's a pushover!

my eyes hurt for how many times I rolled them but I had to carry on! It's been a while since I read an actually finished translation, mtl hurt my brain.

and this night be s*upid... more>> thin gto hate about but lorona reminds ne of corona and after having been sick with the virus and still suffering the effects, I hate anything that reminds me of it.

despite all my complaints there are aspects that I like about this novel.

1. The effects of impulsively cancelling an engagement. Many novels tend to brush over just how difficult it is to do this when you're in nobility. You're not just annulling a person, you're also annulling the family of said person. And that family tend to be very careful when it comes to reputation and to be insulted in such a public way? Good luck.

2. Karma. I just have this sick love for revenge in any form as long as it is justified. I am a gremlin with this type of trope.

and in this novel it was fairly satisfactory. I wish it was FL doing it but other people will have to do.

but that's it. The cons were too many for me to truly enjoy the novel.

also, the ML is tr*sh but at least he's good for something ig. <<less

The story is the typical tale of "Cinderella", a flower that born in a pile of mud, trying to do the best for those who don't deserve her kindness.

This is not a story of revenge, in fact it's a karma story for not valuing the things that life gives you, envy and greed are the main points, but effort and hard work wins in the end. I like the fact that some characters learns the lesson of appreciating the people who help you grow in life, and I love "that"... more>> s*upid prick ended up in the worst possible way for not seeing past his nose.

I like how the story is rolled out. While it jumps from different perspectives, it is not confusing. I'm torn about the ending. Part of me likes that way it ended, while another part of me wishes to know how the FL is in a couple of years with her new path. It's weird to call her the FL, when the novel does not actually have a lot of her perspective in it, LOL!
