Still not getting the scene mentioned on the raw.

This is different from other stories from the same genre in the way of how author introduces lots of detour for the two protag to get together. The male MC is just too... accomodating toward the girl's wishes. So their relationship only progress when the girl want it. They just got together in chapter 700+ *scream in frustation*

Btw, those who looks forward to a lot of face slapping scene, this novel is something to look forward to. Dont expect the... more>> male MC to show his face while recueing the female MC, tho. Remember the title, their relationship stay hidden for a long long long way from the eyes of the public

To those reader who looks forward to a story similar to Skip Beat, this story is very recommended... well, except that the female MC acting skill is strong from the start

Spoiler

Also, the main antagonist (male love rival) is very strong, and psychotic. The author did not make the male MC to be the only one alpha male

I would rate it higher, but the MC is annoying and s*upid. If it was not for Big and Little Bun, and Little Bun's uncle, I would probably would have drop the story. Why is the MC s*upid? She lived a miserable life in China, most of her family hates her and some physically harmed her. Her grandma try to killed her when she was younger, her sister drugged her, which a horrible incident occurred after, and also let her get run-over while pregnant. The MC was suppressed by her own family and made it difficult to succeed in China, and the list could go on. Then, the MC spends some time in the United States, which we find that she met some rich and famous people, two of which seem to have feelings for the MC. I understand the whitewashing of Hollywood, but the MC has a small chance to succeed in the U.S., compared to the China in the web-novel. She does not ask for help from her actor "friend, " or rich and powerful ex, instead she decides to go back to China. The MC is still being suppressed, it is so bad that her own manager/agent physically attacks her and locks the MC in a closet to prevent her from an audition. The only reason why she was able to start succeeding was because she met Little Bun and Big Bun, and through Big Bun's connection she did not have a hard time as before.

Throughout the story, it is mentioned that the MC is a great actress, that she is able to suppress or compliment another actor she is acting with. Yet, her somewhat mediocre actress sister (uses family influence for better roles) was able to act better than the MC in real life and that was how she was able to take almost everything from the MC. Maybe the MC learned it while she was in the United States, but she was not using her skills in China until Big Bun came to the rescue. Which, brings another point of why I dislike the MC. She has feelings for Big Bun and he has confessed, but she has a self-destructive nature and does not want to be happy. One of the reasons is that she cannot trust guys, after what happened to the relationship between her childhood friend and her, and the horrible incident. However, those two incidents are attributed to her sister, a woman.

Whenever the story goes away from either of the Buns, it becomes boring and annoying. For example, the latest arc, which makes no sense, it is not funny and has lasted way too long.

  • The first chapters are more or less entertaining but as the story goes on, it becomes heavier to read.
  • Same type of villainess. ALWAYS GIRLS (woah! Surprise!) who are envious of MC and try to use poisonous words to humiliate Ning Xi (mostly, througth wealth comparations). Implying that she's a "cheap" woman who only knows to sleep with powerful men for money, status and power.
  • Also, MC's first love is a brainless guy. Really, very annoying...
  • Big Bun is the typical perfect guy that knows MC is a strong and independent woman and whenever she's in problems he lets her solve by her own but... Hey, actually, I'm always helping you in the shadows. Hey! Notice me! Look how powerful man I'm. Marry me.
  • Also, the extra people that acts as gossippers whenever Villainess A, B, C, D, E... tries to humiliate her are always as brainless as MC's first love shitty guy. Always like "there goes MC! Villaines A said she's a sl*t, therefore, she must be a sl*t!" "MC is such a lucky woman, she may even have real talent..." "But, hey, Villainess B critized her clothes! Actually, she's always wearing the same no name brand, she must be poor. Ha! MC is so pitiable, she wears clothes like a beggar! *giggle*"

Just slap me with a cliché romance and you'd probably get this book >.>

But even as I say so, it's a nice read. I mean, in NU, where most novels are OP MC who likes to kill everyone they see, this book becomes special >o< And the author is pretty good at writing it in a way that makes it not annoying lol. I like how s/he potrays the chemistry between the male and female MC and especially love the relationship between Ning Xi (female MC) and Little Bun. For a cliché story, it's cute amd nice. Perfect for those moment when you just want to read something cute and fluffy and not see blood and dead people every chapter. <<less

Promising.

Ning Xi is our protagonist and she has gone through so many unfortunate experiences, mostly from the hands of her adopted sister.

And this all happens within the first 4 chapters. Damn. I'm starting to be afraid of what that "tragedy" tag could mean. So the plot has been screaming Temptation of Wife, but going from the summary, what we have thus far is just her backstory. What we're here for is: the love story between Ning Xi and Lu Tingxiao.

I pray that she may gain happiness with her new family, and satisfying vengeance on her biatch of a sister. It may not have the most original plot, but it is certainly fun to read and I'm always eager to read the next chapter. (4/5) <<less

I like the protagonists, especially when they're interacting with each other, but that's it. The antagonists are cartoon villains (of the Snidely Whiplash variety), the plot is a poorly put together string of melodrama cliches, and every bad thing that happens to the main character after the prologue is entirely her own fault for steadfastly refusing to do any of the very simple things that would protect her from her cartoonish assailants. It wouldn't even be hard for her. She just refuses to use her brain because, if she did,... more>> then the melodrama would be over and the author wouldn't know what to write anymore. <<less

Update: 1500 chapters in and I wished I rated it higher. It's actually quite a good story, it just took a while to go past the predictable plot and establish an interesting story line. Though it may just be that all the things I found ridiculous before grew on me after several hundred chapters. Although there were a few hiccups when the author tried to integrate a more interesting backstory for the MC (not the smoothest transition from a feel good light romance to a psychological/assassin thriller), it really did... more>> make this a story worth reading. So, yeah, if you're unsure at the start, just stick with it and it will get more interesting/funnier.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

... meh. That's basically how I feel about this story. I want to like it, I really do, but it's just so...I don't even know if I'd say bad, but more predictable and fantastical. Maybe my standards are naturally a bit higher for stories set in modern day/the current world, but I expect to be able to follow along with the characters and plot more than I would for a story set in the past, or with some magical backdrop.

But I can't jive with this story at all. It just comes off way too made up- everything works out just so perfectly and predictably that I can't bear to read on any longer. Case in point- her ex is still so in love with this girl he dated (and never slept with) for such a brief time when he was handsome, rich, and talented enough to have his pick of any girl he wanted? While in college? I call bull**** lol. In the end, it comes off as the same type of story as Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey- more like a wish fulfillment fan fiction than a story. It's the monogamous female version of those Isekai novels where a super normal MC somehow gets all the beautiful women of every size, shape, and fetish to fall in love with him.

And, come on, we all know that

Spoiler

bun bun is really her son she thought died years before. How amazing that this baby who was several months premie is not only a super genius for no apparent reason, but also got picked up by the world's most eligible bachelor. *eye roll*

And now for the niceness: as expected of volare, the translations are wonderful. Not sure if this is a boon to them or the author, but the story doesn't jump around too much from a continuity standpoint. And the characters are quite likable. I just wished they had a better story line propping them up. <<less

So the only reason it's a 4 is because the villains are really tiring. I just want to smack them all down; what do they even contribute to the story, hah??? They seem like waste of space characters...

Other than that, I was worried that it was going to be pitiful girl x CEO based on some of the reviews. It's not particularly though! Don't get it wrong, MC is more the type of person that will beat you up if you annoy her, than a wilting flower. Nonetheless, ML has... more>> figured out that the way to wear her down is through gentleness instead of force; what a formidable opponent! Little Treasure (our cute little bun) is incredibly adorable in his preference for our MC. <<less

I was pleasantly suprised by this novel. So much so that I binge read up to the current translated release with a fervent desire to see what happens next and speculating on the mysterious possible last connection between the male and female lead. This female lead has got to be one of my absolute favorites hands down. The author was skilled in her portayal of her growth from her troubled past to her current solid footing in reality. Now normally, this nonsense of a soap opera would be a very rapid drop. But I'm going to try to explain to you why I rated it a three.

The premise starts off cliched enough. A beautiful talented FL who can't rise to stardom because literally the entire world except the ML (and in this case, also his brother) is against her. She has her typical share of dark and tragic past, and for some unknown reason she can't let anyone know. She might want to see a counselor. The ML... more>> of course, is perfect. He's rich and handsome and yet nobody knows what he looks like because he never shows up to public. Oh, except when they do, when he comes just in time to save the FL. ML also has a dark and tragic past, and he has a son with an unknown mother, who is strangely attracted to her.

So the whole story is simple enough. FL gets into a dilemma, because as I said before, everyone is against her. She's the protagonist of Scarlet Letter. She has an invisible branding that upon seeing her, they must be hostile to her. It seems to be more severe when you look at it longer, because her family, especially her sister, has waged a vendetta against her. ML offers to help. FL declines, saying she will solve with her own power, but she can't. So ML has to step in to save the day, and the whole cycle repeats every few chapters.

It seems like a huge load of baloney then, why did I rate it a three? It's because the novel seems pretty self-aware of its soap opera. Now keep in mind, only if this argument goes through you that you may agree with my score. The novel purposefully exaggerates and blows everything out of proportion to make each conflict as exacerbating as possible. But, it never really reaches that cringeworthy-tier because of it. Even in "supposed heavy drama, " the writing and the mood of the story is light. You know the FL is not in any real danger, because ML is always in the background just waiting for his chance to be a Superman. Every conflict has no tension because there just is none to begin with. One word from ML is enough to dissolve all the problems.

Now this is my argument: you'll likely enjoy this novel if you just want something light to read and you want to turn your brain off. Several chapters are fluffy with ML's son and FL, and there's pretty much no drama to speak of. It's a comedy with out of the world scenarios that can never happen realistically if you just stop to think for a second how ridiculous the scenarios can be. You can be rest assured that nothing will ever go wrong and if for some reason you get attached to these paper cutouts of a character, then don't worry, nothing will happen to them. All the villains are cartoon villains akin to Tom in Tom&Jerry, where he keeps using the same type of traps and Jerry almost always falls for it but doesn't in the nick of time and gets away. Tom never learns his lesson, and neither do these villains.

tl;dr read if you want comedy & slice of life with over the top drama <<less

You're being served a mouthful of cliches of stereotypical melodrama of cn web novels right of the bat;

the cringy old school set up of chugging a aphrodisiac spiked drink by the cannon fodder villainess step sister whom she got swapped at birth with,

getting preggers with ML's baby after happy accidental one night stand of unpreventable circumstances,

... more>> getting brushed off by her year long crush, lover and childhood sweetheart who was obviously two timing with her sinister stepsister,

in a heat of the argument with the slag man she gets hit by car-kun!!

So it begins.... and it's not even the tip of the iceberg of bullshittery, the real frustration comes as follows with these points;

  • mary sue/gary stu main characters including FL/ML/the mascot
  • cheesy plot line, every type of chinese cliche TV drama included and then some like in the first chapter
  • author giving away entire plot line from the get go despite there being 2k more chapters to follow and throws in ridiculous filler genres to fill the gaps and breaks the entire show-biz set up
  • cannon fodders courting death for the dumbest reasons and they follow all the same patterns and characteristics, no individuality at all
    Spoiler

they all wanna be elite, high class, dainty but spewing nasty commentary like rowdy gangsters and the schemes are of the same level and honestly all of the existent characters are vain AF

    [collapse]
  • FL rejecting ML also for the dumbest reasons
    Spoiler

Yes, we get it, you were hurt before but who hasn't... ML been treating her right (at least when she's conscious) and she's just been crushing his heart left and right for some extra drama

    [collapse]
  • ML doesn't value FL's consent (s*xual harassment and mol*station all day) basically just another domineering iceberg CEO that throws his authority and money around but shows his warmest side to FL only to gain her favour
  • character/plot-breaking, for example; autistic son doesn't act autistic and has only temper tantrums of an autistic child, acts like a normal mute kid on the average or the fact that it's a modern plot but everybody be acting like it's an ancient imperial harem struggle
So in the end, the writing/translations is superb makes it readable, you can follow the story and all, but it makes absolutely no sense. The blood dog drama is just too much, you can read it for laughs but as a proper romance novel? Definitely not.
Spoiler

Also, misleading title is misleading, same goes for the synopsis, MC never married until the end, she was never much out for revenge, it's ML, aka Mr. Ultimate Hack, who's crushing people miserably left and right. All MC does at most is counter attacking and face slapping the death courting cannon fodders. This also is much more like a reverse harem with everybody being either a cannon fodder or an avid follower/admirer of MC. This entire story reminds me of an arc from a QT novel, stripping the golden finger of his looks and power, MC would be long gone :3 Also, child is mainly there for cutesy moment, they never really educate him but spoil him rotten.

The story goes abt an actress who got miscarriage bcs of his bf cheated with her 'friend' (not sure abt this detail) and went overseas after. Years later she comeback to china, got into a dirty scheme bcs of the work of the former girl that dated her ex who just unbelievably disdained her too much.

She met the little bun who was the kid of the male MC. She whom had once lose fetus, never once felt fine with children, but the little bun bought out the maternal feelings within her. Thus the long-cold hearted male MC and his reserved 4y.o son begin to open up to her, it made everyone around them agape as amazed, breaking every memories they had abt their cold and aloof habits.

Read through ch.32 and I think so far the story progress abt how MC overcome her careers despite the jealous girl scheme, and how the pair of father and son trying to lure the MC to be their family.

For little bun I will give it 5 stars, but for the rest I am taking out all the positives. Because it is starting to become super annoying a lot of things should not happened, but because the MC refusal to even used her brain to retaliate or take necessary precautions to avoid some of it, because it is too demeaning for her according to her, btw. Also, because every scenarios have to take several chapters, i.e. for example at the moment on the current released is still about the... more>> dinner party after filming which is attended by everyone of the film crews. This part alone started at chapter 349 and now we are at chapter 369 and still the same. It just goes on and on and on and on..... Also the chapters are way too short. Because of that I am not recommending anyone to read it until all the translation is completed if you can wait that long, otherwise just google the raws and find out what happened next or to get the conclusions of each scenarios etc. For various other reasons I have enough of it and decided to read the ending in raws and that's it for me with this novel.

This is truly a gem.

I've read the Chinese raws up to 1500+

The story line isn't particularly deep, but it's very engaging. Honestly speaking, I don't think that a deep plot is necessary for a novel of this genre either.

... more>> What that pulls you into this novel is the interaction between the characters.

The characters have their unique personality, and the hilarious way which they interact with one another is what that builds the story.

I'll recommend it for those who are looking for a slice of life, doting, comedy, with a pinch of face-slapping from time to time. <<less

Weak writing.

This was like a cliche wuxia novel without the fighting scenes. All the bad bullet points were there:

MC enters scene.

... more>> Someone who wants to ridicule MC says/lies about something outrageous about MC.

Everyone believes and starts to badmouth MC.

MC doesn't react.

Someone and everyone sees her inaction and escalates the situation.

MC sighs and starts talking.

Face slapping ensues.

Everyone is enlightened and suddenly realizes that the things someone said was absolutely unbelievable.

Everyone starts to badmouth and ridicule Someone.

This happens like 6 million times in the novel. MC is in entertainment business, she has fans and followers. Said fans and followers gets shaken and lose faith in our MC even in the 6 millionth time like clockwork.

There are not many villains in the novel. The villains (that someone mentioned before) still used the same roadmap in the 5 million and 6 hundred thousandth time without any worries, sure that THIS TIME they will get her. <<less

2D characters, annoyingly perfect main cast, r*pey male lead, bothersome and forgettable plot filler, for some reason, gangsters???, cliches to the max, repetitive face slapping, absolutely zero plot building or character development, and waaaaaay too many chapters.

Before you start reading this novel, bear in mind that you can only read (as far as I know) the latest translated chapters in Qidian International (I heard that there are also other translator groups who translate hidden marriage but they release way slower than QI). At first, I was perfectly okay with this as the chapters are uploaded on a constant basis, the quality is good, and the release speed is superb. And back then, they still uploaded free chapters.

However, as of lately, they stopped uploading free chapters. I... more>> don't know if this is permanent or not. So for now, you'd need an account to get free spirit stones during log-ins. The amount you get ranges from 8-13 stones. A chapter of Hidden Marriage costs around 3-4. But these chapters are very short. Other novels are longer, thus they cost more, around 10-12. Alternatively, you can also buy spirit stones. For that, I've no idea how much it costs.

But still I'm a bit peeved because all of a sudden, they stopped the free releases without informing me beforehand. Now I am basically forced to open an account to be able to read novels that I enjoy. Maybe some of you won't have problems with this, but I personally feel disappointed because the aforementioned incidents.

Yeah so this isn't a review of the novel but a friendly reminder. Not sure if this helps tho :o

The heroine is pulled down a bunch of times by jealous, s*upid, impulsive people. But despite all the obstacles they lay down in front of her, she does not give up! And that is what I like most about her--her perpetuated will to achieve her dream of becoming an actress. She already has the skills, the attitude and the beauty to make it up top! Now, us readers are given a chance to watch her strut on the road to success. Of course, she cries when times become unbearable and... more>> tough but she stands up quickly and tries to handle the situation as maturely as possible. Luckily, the male lead and his cute son are always there to protect and encourage her. Another thing I love about this novel is the comedic interactions between the characters. Also I cant wait to read the time when the people who hurt her cant even touch a strand of her heir because she is too far up! Let them wallow in despair and regrets! <<less
