The main issue I had with the story was the moral alignment of the main character (MC), who was a cold and calculating machine that I could not empathize with or relate to at all. He had no character growth, no meaningful interactions with side characters, and no difficult moral decisions or dilemmas or any other entertaining interactions in the story. Sociaphatic-psychopath, who's always one step ahead of everyone and never faces any real consequences for his actions. I lost interest in his fate and felt no tension or excitement... more>> when he was in danger, which was rare anyway.

The story also lacked any interesting social aspect, as the author removed most of the human elements from the plot. The MC did not care about anyone or anything except his own goals, and he manipulated, betrayed, or killed anyone who got in his way. There was nothing to balance it out.

The only redeeming qualities of the story could have been the worldbuilding, action, and cultivation system, and they were quite solid and engaging for the most part, except the "action". The author created diverse types of worlds and planes with different systems, rules, and hierarchies that are interesting to explore. But the action scenes are disappointing and bland, lacking any vividness or real combat. They usually follow the same pattern: “A character1 unleashed a rank (type here) force, sweeping over the plane with a tremendous might that crashed into character2. Meanwhile, character2’s face twisted from pain and anger as he shouted “Die!” and his rank (type here) force retaliated against character1.” That’s all there is to the fight, a few exchanges like that and it’s over, which happens a lot, especially in the later half of the story. It’s not enjoyable at all. On the other hand, the cultivation system was complex and intriguing, especially in the early stages, so that’s a plus.

However, even the good aspects, A.k.a worldbuilding, and cultivation fell flat after chapter 700-ish, when the story became full of plotholes, inconsistencies, and forgotten characters. The author also tried to make characters seem smarter and more cunning than they were, by making their enemies act s*upidly and braindead. For example,
Spoiler

the moment with the archdevils and the contract, when they were tricked when Asmodeus instead of Dis wrote Bator, was one of the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever read. Seven archdevils, who were supposed to represent the pinnacle of trickery and cunningness, could not fu**ing read the contract properly from another archdevil and notice that it was about the whole of Bator not just Dis? Absolute brainrot.

[collapse]

The final arc and the ending were also very rushed and unsatisfying, as the author tried to wrap up everything in a few chapters and left many loose ends and unanswered questions. The MC constantly mentions “the truth of the world” in the later parts, which I found funny because it reminded me of "The Throne of Magical Arcana", where the MC also pursued “the truth of the world”, but there it was logical and coherent, while here it is not.
Disappointed. Had a lot of potential but failed to deliver on many aspects. I would give it 2.5/5 stars. <<less

This is interesting read if you love ruthless MC with a moral compass. Some parts of the story are very redundant, can't help it, this is a web novel after all.

Personally I love the twilight zone arc, because that's the closest this novel could get with Lotm or Reverend Insanity. MC will grow brain over time.

The ending was meh.

this was one of my top 5 novel ever, and I'm still looking for something simmilar without any succes.

this is one of the stories that u can't find anywhere else, without copying, without similiaries, everything is fascinating and the story is so unconvencial. But there is one huge mistake in the stoory, it ends too fast at the very end and I thought that there will be space for another part in the future, but till today I can't find it.

what can I say - it isn't another candy strory... more>> when u know how it will gona end after first chapter, nothing like that, there is a mystery about the world, there is a slowly growing MC, there are act of good and evil - great mystery of the world. I realy hope to find something simmilar in the future, or something in the sam eunniverse.

I wanted to read this whole series since it’s completed, but it was so boring that I gave up. Nothing interesting happens in this story. It’s mostly useless filler. Nothing of importance happens for twenty chapters, then there’s something interesting for like three before he gets past it. There’s so much useless descriptions of plants and other useless details that I ended up reading every 10 paragraphs and the story still made perfect sense, but was still boring because exciting things are so rare. I would not recommend this to... more>> anyone. <<less

This novel is very 8 or 80 you either love it or hate it, I'm part of the 80's I sincerely hate novels in which the MC challenges people, clans, sects much stronger than him and has the armor of the plot, which doesn't happen here, how much to the MC's character even I'm horrified by some of the things he does, but I understand this is his personality.
As for the AI chip, that's what sets it apart despite giving the MC an advantage, it's not all-powerful, there's still... more>> a plot, it's not just the chip that solves everything.
In short, I really liked this novel, despite not having character development and a more sentimental plot, which are parts that I like too, if you like these characteristics try reading Pursuith of Truth. <<less

Ch200 4, 5/5

MC character here is amazing, he is not a killer maniac, but also not a traveling hero, he prioritizes benefits.

What irritates me here is that the AI Chip is used very often, maybe 3-5 sentences, at least there will be one with an AI Chip in it. it's logically more efficient to use it, but the frequency with which it's used makes me sick every time I read it, it's like I'm being forced to eat and drink the same bland food every day.

And honestly I would have... more>> thought MC was gay if it weren't for MC having s*x in the beginning of the story. LOL

Highly recommended if you can ignore the continuous use of the AI Chip which makes MC look useless without it

Edit: Ch400+ 4/5

MC is becoming more and more often risking his life for other people, it's a bit disappointing, although the author still tells that MC prioritizes profit, MC doesn't do what the author says. The common sickness of a novel with a lot of chapters, but being able to maintain a character in 200-300 chapters is quite extraordinary, and at least the author gives a little justification, so well...

Ch 436 3, 5/5

the deteriorating storytelling makes the clever and cunning atmosphere that MC usually provides is missing <<less

The story is about a bloke who gets reincarnated from a normal world to a person with magus powers, and he strives to reach godhood/immortality by any means necessary. There are a lot of borrowed names from notable games and anime too- I had a good laugh when a kid named Vegeta made a cameo. It's a good read, though there is a lot of straight male self-serving descriptions of women.

The story is very good. Not, the best one out there but still, better than lot of tr*shes.

Another fact,

I don't know if others also feel but I f*ckin hate the ideology of the protagonist. He's not an idiot but his mind works just completely different to mine.

Ruthless MC, which is a big plus for me. The AI Chip is an interesting cheat, the MC isn't really overpowered in his realm, just slightly stronger than the rest. The plot and the world were interesting as well, the ending could have been better but
Spoiler

I guess open endings just don't fit my preference.

[collapse]

Overall I would highly recommend this novel if you like a ruthless and cunning MC.

The easiest way for a writer to create a MC is imagining him to be emotionless/calculating/robotlike.

Many times reading these cool, emotionless, robot-like MC's I wonder if the authors were actually too lazy to create a personality for our MC, because one of the most difficult parts of writing a novel, is creating characters with a real personality which actually feel 'alive' and so writing robotlike MC's is taking the easy route out.

For this novel one could replace the MC with the AI-chip, if the chip was programmed to reach the... more>> pinnacle of power and it would make no difference.

Anyway, giving the MC no character at all, plus the bladant plagiarism of the novel "The Wizard World" shows a very lazy attitude from the authors part in writing this novel, which leaves me no choice but to give this rating.

Robot-like MC's are unreal, and it doesnt matter what kind of world it is they are living, a human will never be that kind of person. Even psychopaths and mentally challenged people have wants and dont wants. This right here, is just lazy writing. <<less

Start to mid was quite interesting but by the end, it started feeling like a chore so I speed read it. The guy is a coward which is not bad but he is also very very evil. I tried many times to see good points but he is the epitome of evil. The guy just cares about eternity and nothing else. Maybe if we were able to live that long we would also lose a lot of our normal emotions but well... it was well written and it made sense.... more>> Give it a try it's worth reading if there is nothing else to read. <<less

Its a really great novel that left me satisfied. Although the pace was a little slow, I liked the pacing and worldbuilding. Leylin is a ruthless, cunning, and somewhat evil protagonist. He will do anything to obtain eternity. Furthermore, the ending felt a bit rushed, but I was still happy with it.

I recommend everyone to read this till chapter 100 to see if you enjoy it.

*sighs*

not sure how to rate this one. I often get disappointed by these overrated novels, but you can't help having high expectations when most of the recommendation posts on r3ddit have this novel's title glued on them, you know.

since most so-called good novels has shitty translations; plot armors with bonuses; nonsensical romance and one dimensional characters, I thought I should just read this to kill time while I seek better hidden gems, and see what I got?

this is a straight 12/10 so-called gpod novel! It even supposed to have a... more>> scientist mc! Why supposed? Cuz hes more like a brainless over-cautious brat than a damn scientist! He acts just like how I did during grade school when I stole my classmate's chips! F*ck! I'm not against cautious MC but since theres barely any conflicts, any excitement I had at the start got ruthlessly killed off and fed to the orcs. Yes, perhaps the author just wants the plot to advance quickly, but still!

i was bout to read till the latest chapter but guess what? My willpower to struggle thru the obstacle of exclamation marks vanished the moment I accidentally read the comment (which I dont give a damn most of the time) saying the MC feels so generic and unlovable. At that point I had the urge to worship that holy commenter cuz all my tired brain cells was like: “right? Ive been looking for whats wrong with this guy called leylin, so this is why!”

all in all, if you havent read any really good novel then this novel might be 'great' but if you have read the higher tiered ones, especially those with good translation and brainiac and/or real scientist MC, then, I respectfully urge you to take your leave. <<less

One of the rare good and completed novels without too much explaining and words thrown in just to extend the novel length, novel I've repeatedly read and hasn't yet bored me, will be a classic for me.

Very well written. It gets super better writing quality as it advances.

One thing I can tell is this novel was written with an active mind. The mind of a human being; not only obsessed with the decadent and degenerate aspect of humanity reminiscent of dark ages but..

What I feel some times makes me feel that life is very harsh. So despairingly dark it doesn't matter what one chooses to be one ends up being a pile of dark ash behind a stone in a cementary.

I have experienced much greater moments... more>> of clarity a austerity in my life : and I'm very thankful for that.

This novel is something really worth experiencing.

At the start it looks really childish but as it picks up one can see the kind of the author is maturing and has some very somber if not grounded views on life and he has a very distinct way of putting that on paper.

This site is not just obsessed with degeneration but what he shares he cares about with contradictions and all.

The author is a very interesting person I'd like to meet one day look into their eye and have a long drink; talk about life in general.

The start of the novel I just said it is a very valid buildup

It doesn't start like at 100 and the author omits a lot of things that need showing but this things are actually worked around later.

One thing it has its that the main character thinks he's a good guy. Very interesting specially after sacrificing thousands or tens of thousands just because it suits him.

I have already gotten over this but expect a lot of it.

It has many other flaws but the only other worthy of mention is that basically the number of human population vaires every 20 chapters..

Basically they say on the continent there's say 100k normal you and me humans.. But in the span of say.. 4 monts produces 60 potions each requiring like 1-10k human sacrifices.. You see the problem?

This happens very very very often but the most interesting parts of the plot are preserved and not over exploited wuxia like tho it does happen but not in a bad meaningful way as in most wuxias.

I do recommend this but only for mature readers as it is very demoralizing at times and lots of s*upid logic one has to tolerate for the sake of plot progression. <<less

I've been reading xianxia for around 8 years now and this is certainly in the top 3.

One thing many people overlook when it comes to this genre is if the progression makes sense. If the author had it all planned out or was just making it all up as they went and their audience grew.

There are no such questions with this story, it reads like an actual professional work.

The story is unique in regards to its western fantasy influences; alchemy, guilds, mages, and god-in-the-cave atmosphere, rather than the eastern mysticism... more>> you so typically see in the genre.

The story kept me interested the whole way through and the ending had me wanting a sequel.

As a plug, if you enjoyed desolate era you will probably also enjoy this. <<less

Easily one of the best novels to read. Very dark traits, solid world building with a very mature and cold protagonist without any s*upid 12 years old romance. If you are looking for something more mature than the usual flat story with common trophes repeated over and over again through the story you definitely have to look it up.

This novel is a memorable one for me because it was the first chinese novel that ive read with an MC that is rational and that planned ahead for his every moves. There might be flaws in the novel but during that time I was still not picky unlike the current times where I have grown tired of reading idiotic maincharacters. For me the novel aas executed very well. So Im'ma reward it with full star.

Like let make some things clear this is no ways an outstanding novel but still fall under the good radar. Not gonna lie I myself have stopped reading this time to time but after some time I again started reading it cannot say it has reached the top but it pretty close. Let me then clear up some issues people in the comments section have A.i chip is not that op as you say like, after reaching morning star mage it's overall role is small. And have you read the... more>> whole novel or just babbling on some starting arcs (till the underground arc) if not then I recommend read it full because after that the novel truly shines. Truly speaking I ha e skipped some part it underground arc. The plot and it twists really show after the underground arc so please read from there <<less
