Lin Xi spent fourteen years at this family and never did figure out why she had always been mistreated.

She finally learned that she was living in a cliché novel with radical moral standards.

Her mother was the female lead and her ‘father’ was the male lead. Before the male lead fell in love with the female lead, he had belittled and abused her in all sorts of ways. He even offered her up to others and, finally, the female lead had intimate relationship with a strange man.

The male lead fell head over heels in love with the female lead after that and expressed that he did not mind the child. Nevertheless, the existence of said child was a like a thorn in male and female leads’ hearts and it reminded them of their past constantly.

Unfortunately, Lin Xi was this child that should never had been born.

In the extra, Lin Xi tried to set up her sister out of envy but it backfired on herself and she ended up strangled. The male lead was able to locate the man who had intimacy with the female lead and ruined both his reputation and family fortune.

After 10 seconds of hesitation, Lin Xi decided to leave the family where she was not loved and go live with her own father.

More a 3.5 than a 4 but I decided to round it up because I really did enjoy it initially. I really enjoyed Gu Xi's relationship with her new found family but it just really lagged to me as the story progressed with unnecessary focus on her competition projects and complex language. Another thing that really put me off the story was the constant mix-up between the names of the cousins and even the name change of the ML himself - while I am appreciative this story was translated in... more>> the first place I feel like it could have easily been remedied through editing. <<less

Another novel not recommended to read.

Within the first 5 chapters are such monumental BS and nonsense that it's incredible how people are giving this perfect ratings.

Spoilers for what happens

Spoiler

This dumb MC is always bullied by her scum family, but somehow confusedly lived her life mostly okay until now. At least okay by meaning she has survived. The crummy Chinese school she goes to let her be bullied, her classmates isolated her, but she magically won some awards. Her scum family beats her, her scum stepsister always frames her, and her mother is total scum. So evil family comes up with the brilliant idea of sending MC off to a well known Chinese pe*ophile rapist villager man. Genius right? MC is reborn (given memories+ knowledge of the entire book) and yet still allows this to happen. Does she run away? Nope she makes a BS electric stun gun and pain spray to protect herself. She records evil rapist man then just leaves. Meanwhile author happily tells us that pe*ophile rapist Chinese man r*pes tons of girls and will continue to do so. How nice =_=. MC finally heads out to find her father (where money comes from to do so etc is completely unknown) and heads out. That's the first five chapters. It's utter tr*sh. At least MC got rapist man's evil recording (which would be utter nonsense and doesn't work as blackmail). So s*upid. MC also scared of the Lin father (supposed scum hero) and having nightmares. Fun. There are tons of ways for her to easily run away or get to safety earlier but no this was her idea. Horrid. And at least report that guy or make him inhuman :<.

[collapse]

Not a good start no matter how you try and spin it. Sigh.

-300tril/10 don't read. Might later check out more with edits. Unlikely though.

Edit 1:

Soz her father is a bit scum but he patches up quite nicely in the magical novel way.

Story Now:

Spoiler

Mostly fluff and people being s*upid. Mc's father using OP phone hax to find Mc's recording then he beats up creepy pe*ophile rapist Chinese villager man and sends the guy to jail. That's the bare minimum smh. Mc's father changes Mc's name to his family and shows up scum Lin family. Mc's grandfather is the stereotypical doting grandpa type. Oddly no clothes for MC personally shopped yet but Mc's dad prepping for Mc's new school. Author doing more of the "wow Mc's dad hates being dirty but now can magically tolerate MC because of being related" nonsense and the two feeling closer. Nothing special. MC also joining some random group and being a genius at literally all school and everything which is total BS.

[collapse]

So overall doesn't make up for crummy start but you get the picture of the story. Mc's father probably gonna be less and less scum and take care of his daughter the MC.

Still not advised for read. The whole story is so unbearably s*upid and the face slap that comes from the dad needs to be harsher here. Crush the scum already.

Edit 2:

Novel completed and it's worse. There's a nice extra at the end and the ML for our MC is super obvious as it's the only guy mentioned. Villains are not dealt with properly here though. Anyway it's a very weak novel with minimal fluff. Not recommended and you really feel like China is tr*sh for letting evil rapist big villain guy suffer almost no punishment (author doesn't even write it), the villain mom suffer no bad events (she gets to enjoy an experimental treatment), and evil stepsister (s) get off entirely scott free. Just a horrible mood all in all and you feel the MC's dad appears rather useless at times. -300tril overall. No outstanding or really good chapters. <<less

This novel clearly inspired by "My Whole Family Are Villain" to the point that I would say plagiarism.

There are so many scenes that almost the same. It’s not just the plot but the details like MC help peeling seafood for the father who obsessed with cleanliness.

Since I’m MTL it would sound hypocrite to criticize but how can the writer not get attacked when she post it in jkwxc?

Loved this novel for a variety of reasons:

1) 14 year old, original MC (not transmigrated/ reborn)

2) MC realises this is actually the novel world but doesn't have much in-depth info about all characters since it's a novel and not an info-dump. Normally, other MCs would have too much in-depth info (including time, date and precise locations) and I have always found that to be unbelievable. Nobody writes novels like it's a diary. This novel has managed to make it sensible.

3) OP MC without being too OP. MC is super... more>> OP in terms of studies/ knowledge on electronics. But that's it. She's not a dancer, an average piano player and more importantly, doesn't know sh*t about how to defeat villains. All she knows is to warn her papa against some people but it's her papa who does everything else.

4) MC is mature for her age while maintaining certain childish qualities such as eating junk food, on her mobile constantly and likes to play hooky with her cousins. MC doesn't become an 'adult' just coz she read a novel about herself. She remains a 14 year old.

5) MC does have sequelae to her terrible childhood. She speaks softly, is the first to apologise no matter whether it's her fault or not, tries to reduce her presence as much as possible and carries a very 'wanting to please' attitude towards her dad in the beginning. I liked that.

Cons:

1) Typical everyone from the Gu family being super geniuses. All MC cousins are geniuses who come first, can defeat seniors etc etc. I personally do not like such OP settings. The novel also emphasises on how 'family' genetics have turned everyone into geniuses - I don't like such a setting as well.

2) Everyone from uncle, aunt to cousin all dote terribly on MC. MC is the only girl born in their generation and that's why she is doted upon. And tbh this point is both a pro and a con. I like reading such a setting but seeing other parents push away their own kids for MC just coz she is a girl is kinda bad as well.

3) Not much romance. Romance covers only the last 3-4 chapters or so. Mostly, it's about daughter-dad defeating the big, bad villains. I loved it but would have loved say 10 chapters (atleast) of romance. There's no build-up. One chapter they r kids going to competitions together and the next chapter the ML is confessing.

Overall rating - 5/5

T/L - 5/5 <<less

It's a really heartwarming story between a father and daughter... I just finished the novel... the last chapter are so sad that it made me cry.. though it's a happy ending novel but Gu xi's previous life's story is really heartwrenching... her mother and adoptive father (not biological father) are so disgusting evil.. I want to beat the crap out of them.... But Gu shao (biological father) take revenge on them so I feel satisfied.. now I'm gonna find some similar stories like this..

Someone said this was a inferior "my whole family is villains" but I disagree. The family in this novel seems much more pragmatic and burdensome.

Sure it has some cringey cliches but it
also shows the unrealistic side of those annoying abuse novels that end with the FL happily staying with her crappy ML without any regrets or bad feelings.

The mother obviously hates their past and her child who is like a constant reminder of it.

A plausible reason to dislike your child unlike novels where the mother is nonsensical and cruel.... more>> At least su bei had her twin brother but this girl had literally no one.

I also admire the way her father slowly changed instead of almost immediately doting on her.

Anyways I'm glad she ends up happy. <<less

A very delayed review but yep...

I mean, sometimes, if anyone does see my review in other novels and it's weird cause there are clearly a lot of flaws like plot holes, questionable moral values, etc., well, it's fiction and I do turn off my logic whenever I read CN Novels. This is literally 'junk food' that you'll enjoy if you don't worry about your (brain) health lol.

Anyway, I enjoyed this because I liked the dynamics of the FL and her dad. Her dad literally carried this entire novel on his... more>> back lol. Initially, he is quite cold because he's in business and knows to not trust everything at first sight. Still, he never humiliated her nor abused her when she went to him for shelter. He instead let her stay for a few days while waiting for the results of the paternity test. After determining that she really was his daughter, he awkwardly did his best to improve day by day and be a good dad to FL. It was so heartwarming watching FL finally grow up being surrounded by love, having fun, and doing silly stuff like people her age does. Their family is also very supportive and loving, almost like an ideal, perfect family (except that FL is way, way more favored in the family than her male cousins though they did not mind that since they also spoil her).

The villains got their rightful bad end and FL's paternal family is still strong and sturdy. I still find it funny when I remember how FL's cousins reacted when their best friend ended up hooking FL lol. I mean, they were close friends with ML, and growing up they were the ones who blocked other guys from approaching FL with malicious intentions. They weren't able to guard against ML at all since they all thought ML viewed FL the same way as they do-- as a sister. ML is really smart for that haha.

Enjoyable family-focused novel~ <<less

It's okay. It was interesting at first with how she tried to escape her fate and face slap those who wronged her. However, it eventually became boring because of MC's personality. Her personality just seems... lacking? Her personality is very cliché. Actually, the whole plot is cliché. Her dad and his family members are just very doting on her, and she's often very oblivious about certain things. Her personality is the usual "I'm a genius but I lack interpersonal skills". Her dad is the usual "I'm a cold domineering CEO... more>> but after meeting the MC I slowly learn what love is and dote her like a tsundere." It's very cliché.

I don't know how to explain it, but once you drop this novel for a few days, it's not something you'd continue to pick up again. It's a very straight laced novel. There's nothing exciting... <<less

Not finished yet because the MTL is hurting my eyes, but I need some enlightenment, isn't the story/plot is the same with "My Whole Family Are Villain" until it seems like a plagiarized work to me? Or maybe this kind of thing is normal in Chinese Novel?? It has the same plot!! But not gonna lie, it was written better than My whole family is a villain, and even when it's probably weird that

a 14 years old can understand a complicated project, they have the time to explain that the MC is actually start to learning with time skips (1 month, 2 weeks intensively). Like how realistically that the MC is not perfect and her piano is so ordinary that she needs other thing to spice up her performance, bringing her talents in the technology instead of being genius in every subject.

And honestly, the real-life math competition middle school teenagers are actually as scary as them.

[collapse]

The MC is not like the "My Whole Family Are Villain" which where MC is suddenly OP and doesn't need to study at all. This was more enjoyable in my opinion even though the plot is exactly the same. <<less

She’s done something pretty contradictory. She asked her father to provide for her just until she’s an adult, but she’s also desperate to pay her father for her living expenses and rent. She knows he’s mega rich, and it seems incredibly unnecessary.

She’s also trying to save funds for when her father goes bankrupt. It would be a waste of money to give money to someone you know is going to lose all his fortune. I thought she was supposed to be incredibly smart in both IQ and EQ?

Something that bothers... more>> me even more, though, is that she’s very subservient to her father. Incredibly so. The money thing is only one thing that demonstrates this. It’s not just being humble and desperate, because she’s also stuck on this filial piety thing.

All the while, her father couldn’t give a shit. It feels like he got that housekeeper so that the main character wouldn’t be buzzing around as much, rather than caring about her efforts. He doesn’t care about her school situation, getting to know her, how the traumatic event she’s currently going through is affecting her, nothing.

1/10 points for being a dad — that one point being giving her what she needs to survive.

The power balance between these two is awful, the communication is non-existent and one sided, there’s neglect going on here, and none of this is addressed or even shown as a problem by the author.

Also who da fuq cleaned the giant house if there wasn’t a housekeeper before? The inconsistency is unreal. <<less

i think this is decent. Its a pretty stereotypical chinese novel. Its not overly offensive yet its not super super enjoyable imo. Just relatively interesting enough to mtl. She does a lot of competitions and worrying. However nothing truly feels deep. I think theres a certain lack of writing quality that would have helped this push it to the edge. The concept was good and the execution was passable.

First 10 chapters and last two extras are enough to understand this novel. The topic is nice but middle parts diverts from the novel too much to make MC this great genius. In some chapter I just read the names of the characters in that chapter to decide, if there is a plot development and skip if I did not see the names of father or the villiains. Some cute moments exist between father and MC but the romance is out of nowhere. MC basically "fall in love" with the... more>> only male character in the novel that is not related to her. Why? It's a Fringe Capybara so you can be certain it's at least a 4, and the translation is very good. Needless to say this isn't a disappointment.

Starting with the easy stuff, the writing and the translation are fluid, lucid and just very pleasant to read. Characters and circumstances are introduced in a well thought out manner leaving the reader with a good grasp of the situation. The characters are distinct and memorable, unlike so many other Chinese novels

What's more it does have great self aware lines like this one when... more>> she is getting an ID card

" Miss policeman has already made up a 1 million words "Dominant CEO loves me, "Genius Mommy ran with the ball" and "I have seven big dads" in Marie Su."

The only downside is that while I have come to greatly hate the antagonists, I'm not quite empathetic to the protagonist, though it is getting there.

Bottom Line: I just switched out my reading order and will be binging this.

P.S. Note the translation is splitting the raws into thirds <<less

Super adorable family focused novel. Mostly focused on the heart warming interactions of the Gu fam and MC's happy life with small doses of drama from the typical villainous characters. The most gratifying part of the novel was MC growing from a nervous, scared kid starving for affection to someone who is loved and cherished her family and who knows it.

MC's history with her OG fam was pretty bad and while it's unclear whether she was abused by the Lin fam before she left to find her dad, she was... more>> definitely at least ignored and given harsh treatment. After she has her dreams, she seems to have more of a "ah no wonder they treat me like this" reaction rather than any real disbelief or shock so it was probably pretty damn bad. And when she first looks for her dad, she's super timid and her expectations are very very low. All she wants is basic shelter because she's scared of the Lin fam and just for agreeing to raise her until she's 18 (which is like 4 years), she's already thinking of taking care of her dad in the future in the event that the Lin fam manages to ruin him.

it's really easy to like MC since no child would deserve this kind of treatment anyway but at the same time, she's clearly portrayed as a responsible hard working grateful kid. So when she and her father gradually develop their relationship, and as her world opens up more with loving relatives and friends, it just feels very heart warming and satisfying because she finally has the happiness and belonging she craved which were previously deprived from her through no fault of her own. It's also nice that her dad is clear about the issues she has as well as of her goals and interests and he gives her clear reassurance, support and protection.

finally I feel like SKX isn't as shown to be as much of a villain as LYZ when she's probably worse since MC is at least her biological daughter. Like I get that MC might remind of her bad memories. But she could've sent MC overseas to study and just not seen her. But she kept MC around and tried to lose or use her in the most ridiculously cruel way.

Spoiler

like SKX wanting to send her own FOURTEEN year old daughter to some STRANGE OLD GUY to be his WIFE?! Seriously that's straight up cruel. Fourteen she's freaking fourteen. Who does that to a 14 year old that's easy to hide anyway? I seriously do not understand this. Even if they sent her overseas, they're rich anyway and they wouldn't have to see her and it also wouldn't be easy for her to come back if they don't want to see her. Why.......

or wanting to lose MC as a kid, or using MC as a decoy to get away from danger, wanting to take MC's lungs, trying to get MC into an accident to get MC's lungs. Like wow she's the worst. Wish her ending was so much worse than whatever happened to her at the end of the book.

[collapse]

also about the review from absarehot:

1. until she met her real father gu shao, MC was raised to feel like she's unnecessary and unwanted. Her own mother has neglected and mistreated her in real life for 14 years and the mistreatment is much much worse in her dream. So she doesn't take it as a foregone conclusion that just because gu shao is her father, he owes it to her to raise her or that he will just automatically care for her (NO ONE has cared about her before whether it's the lin fam, maternal grandparents or even her teachers and fellow classmates in school). Other than the fact that MC is a kind hearted and responsible kid, she is also desperately afraid of being sent back to the lin family which is why she behaves the way she does with gu shao when she first starts living with him. She's just doing everything she can to show gu shao that she's not a burden and to get him to like her. (Of course this changes as they interact more and she behaves more like a loved and treasured child would.)

2. She gives him money because she feels she owes it to him and she doesn't want to be a burden (and get kicked out). Even if she's knows he will go bankrupt in the future, she doesn't want gu shao to kick her out in the present so as part of her efforts to ensure he doesn't think of her as a burden, she's trying to pay for her own expenses. This only happens ONCE btw and gu shao tried to reject it but MC ran off and left the money there.

3. Gu shao is a single middle aged man who suddenly gets a 14 year old daughter so yes he's initially quite cold. To him, raising her is his obligation and at the same time, he has no idea on how to be a parent. But their relationship as parent and child does gradually get better and he puts in a lot of effort to be a good parent. He reads articles about parenting, he sets aside time for her like picking her up/ sending her to school, attends all her school activities and competitions despite his busy schedule and he protects and encourages her. <<less

I really like and quite enjoy this one. I'm aware with other similar premise (My Whole Family is Villain) but I tend to disappointed with it. The 'mature up' element feels unrealistic and the way the author kinda write off her twin's position is such a pity.

In 'I've Decided to Go Look for My Father', I found everything realistic, even with the genius aspect of MC and her older cousin. MC acting like a young teenage girl would do. She's doing everything to prevent the novel's ending but limited to... more>> her own capability. Her father is also not suddenly doting her and I found he reading childcare forum and gradually trying to understand a teen girl is refreshing. MC's cousin also have their own role and character, not served to make her shining. I dropped MWFV when the mother introduced. Here in this novel, the mother is (more) descpicable but I still found her way of thinking logic. In short, the novel made the cause and effect in plot clear and make sense.

I'm not the one who think ML should always the romance interest by the way, so I think the ML in this novel is the almighty, golden thigh father (lol).

Few bad things I dislike is how the author make MC's family repeatedly play favor to her as the only grand daughter/niece. Love your nephews too, Father/Uncles!! The other thing is how the dad solved the problem with relative who will mol*st her. I think the beating scene is too much and only serve as 'cool' scene. He should just sent him to prison imo.

The ending is fine, but I think the father's "parallel dream" (of 2nd life? Or the alternative ending of 1st (novel) ?) kind of forced. <<less

I first read the comments here before starting, and I read the one or two star comments first and I don't get it?

this is such a gem, I highly recommend it!! It's so cute and it has me smiling the whole time. Of course this is just a light novel, and there are some plot holes here and there.

and I love how there's an absence of shallow female villains??? That's kinda rare except of course the step sister but tbh she's much better than on other chinese novels.

the MC and... more>> her father is so adorable and I love how it portrays the MC to be an insecure girl who just craves a parent's affection and the father who keeps reading clickbait articles to make sure he gets it right.

most of the story is actually focused on family relationships and the MC and ML would actually only get together around chapter 95 ish, but its really slightly hinted from the first interactions that the ML slowly fell for the MC and its well distributed in the whole story, they are so cute!

and the side stories at the end, I hoped there were more so it was just so bittersweet. <<less

Like many had pointed out, this story is very similar to My Whole Family Are Villains, which is honestly an understatement because sometimes I would even double-check if I'm reading this novel or MWFAV because of how similar they are lol.

But, even though I preferred MWFAV, this is still a pretty good read. Sure, it has its flaws but I enjoyed reading it.

I just wanted to give full 5 stars for this novel. Well it has a similar plot with the MWFV but the feelings were totally different.

MC is just a child who only dreamt about her future in the novel plot. I liked how her character stayed as a 14-years-old girl. And loved to see melting Gu Shao in her presence.

Good novels with a child protagonists are hard to find but this one was good.

Mtled the novel very quick! This is a very heart warming novel, the relationship between MC and paternal family is darn cute and the face slapping of her biological mother and her other "family" is also very satisfying, must read!! Also the romance doesn't happen between MC and ML until the end chaps, where it is age appropriate! MC is just 14 yrs old at the beginning after all, so overall good read
