Supporting Role’s Aura

Description

Ye You was one idle rich second generation, with good appearance and a large number of pursuers. He was amazing in whatever he does, even his luck was so good that people were envious of him. He was recognized as a darling of Heavens by all his friends.

But Ye You, who was enjoying his carefree life, suddenly traversed into a novel, not only that, he also transmigrated into a poor cannon fodder supporting role.

However, although Ye You had transmigrated, his ability and luck, as well as his personality trait have not disappeared. No matter what kind of world he traversed to or what kind of person he crosses into, he will be a winner in life.

So he can only say to the protagonist; sorry, my supporting aura is more dazzling than your protagonist aura.

No matter how I like Tangerine Boat as an author and read several of their works, I still think this one should have been its' first arc done into a full novel, not a transmigration. Well, it's not truly that type of transmigration you're thinking either. Maybe because it was so shortened.

Storyline:

    • Arc 1 is the greatest part of it all. The most developed of three Arcs. It basically is like 58 chapters long with most developed story and world and tells the story of a crossed soul (protag shou) who is more or less knowledgable about dancing, this is a militaristic world and they are like art soldiers, basically also working for ranks but in the art department, at first he implicated MC and asked him to take his place when he went to visit protag gong. So first thing MC did was clear his reputation which was stained because of this incident, MC and protag shou come from the same household, same goes for ML and protag gong, they ironically come from same household, ML is a the son of true wife, while protag gong is the son to the second lady (honestly like a cunning concubine). So the big family drama involved, which tbh I quite liked. Our MC who is supposed to travel to cannon fodder role, but happened to be multi-talented personality, yet main thing is his super memory. Relationship and love between ML and MC is sweet btw, pretty likable :)
    • Arc 2 is rather short, it doesn't really develop much before MC is taken to the final and his real world which uncovers his origin and how he happened to be in the first world (the one MC considered his original one). The only entanglement MC had here is that is ML traveled with him and he had his doubt about ML's persona on top of a bit of family drama.
    • Arc 3 is also not that big, it basically covers how MC disappeared from this world, who is ML, how he got MC back, MC's origins and surely little green tea on the side-dish as a villan.
All three stars go for the first Arc from me. I'd be real with you I truly liked it and I think it's worth reading the first arc as a separate story. Here author plays with mirrored life, since both shous and gongs are from the same families, but their situations are different. And path they chose is also different, since MC didn't have the same idea as prtag shou and never thought of himself as a center of the universe, he just had confidence to be better and be happier.

But the overall feeling of transmigrating novel falls short. Maybe because arcs are uneven, although idea behind it is understandable, but still it felt weird, like one is really long, other is really short (like 11 ch) and the it's the final place to be. The end. Which feels truly weird when you finish it. Maybe author tried to develop the novel but something happened on the way and they wrapped it up, they had two similar novels of several short worlds and then it was over before you know it.

[Edit from 2024 :D]

After years of following Tangerine Boat I basically confirm my assumption - they easily get tired (these years). I follow them on JJ and they rarely write (maybe under a different pseudonym, who knows) and if they write they go on and off. Several last novels seem hasty at the ending. The latest novel they started is also a QT, but guess what? They haven't updated since 09/23. Familiar pattern. So I keep wondering, why do they keep coming back even.

The story is so sweet and fluffy.

One: Consent is romantic.

Two: MC maintains his badassness to the very end. He doesn't immediately get lobotomized the moment the ML appears.

Three: ML is charming, a hopeless romantic and hilariously shameless. Consent is sexy.#

Four: The first arc is great.

minus One: The next two arcs were out of place. Its like the author just put them in to get a QuickTransmigration theme. Reading the first arc alone is enough.

TLDR: boring characters, translation good

I started getting bored about chapter 40, the whole training exercise against the other country was too much of "we are the best other countries are wrong". This went on way too long and became boring. Not to mention the foreigner basically had the same thought process of the ML but he was s*upid?

I like op MCs but he is just too much, reads more like someone's daydream of being the best. He isn't even that likable. The ML is okay. The villians are utterly... more>> s*upid, though 1 does show signs of intelligence.

Might skim the rest of the first arc but not sure if I'll bother with the other 2 arcs after reading the reviews.

The translation is good With detailed footnotes. I appreciate the translator's honesty when they say they were behind on translating. They didn't make random excuses like most translators and just honestly said they didn't feel like translating. <<less

The ML is just manipulating the MC to get his wishes and the MC just goes with it as if he doesn't have a brain. The translator did a good job and their effort when faced with strange vocabulary is amazing. I enjoyed reading their translator notes more than the story by ch 25

Reading this felt like playing a Speedrun game: hectic, barely any time to take a break to take in the surroundings and you feel like getting whiplash any minute. I know that the ML fell in love a first sight with the MC which already made me expect a fast relationship development. What I did not expect, however, was how FAST their relationship would actually progress. They went from merely nodding acquaintances to dating to engaged and finally married so fast, they hadn't even known each other for even... more>> a year by that point, much less met up all that often to date due to social and work obligations.

Call me conservative for all I care, but I felt like they moved way too fast. Even in the second arc they got married within a few months... but it was understandable then since they are an old couple already.

The fast development wasn't only limited to the main leads' relationship. But it encompassed the whole novel plot. At times it felt like reading a summary since the author likes to do time skips and summing up events in few words rather than actually writing out what happened. It's like, ah yeah, the MC just gave birth and in the next paragraph the baby is already a month old. Or in one paragraph they talk about ending the antagonists' career and in the next paragraph the antagonists are already bankrupt. We don't even get the juicy details of how it happened. Such a letdown.

I will, however, give plus points for the first arc. The setting felt a bit more memorable as the setting isn't one I have come across like that before really. <<less

The novel is full of romance, there is not a lot of dramas...

+1 in having babies

But, this novel is kind of short, as the first arc, are developed, the rest of them are a bit too fast-paced.

Although there are only 3 chapters left, I do not wish to read any further.

The story could have been good but the main characters does not look any good. I enjoy reading stories with powerful MC and all but here, it all look like pretense.
Spoiler

1st 50 chapter were about 1st arc only and it was really painful to read. It got a bit better with 2nd arc but I lost it when he kept hinting the antagonist on his pregnancy. In 3rd arc it was okay but, when he realized that he was actual prince his reaction once again looked like he was pretending.

[collapse]

No matter how I look like, the MC looks like real green tea or white lotus. And the ML looks obsessive.

Spoiler

In 1st arc when ML saw the MC, his statement was that even if MC had a lover he will make MC his, and in last arc the ML took MC to his own world, the statements he gave once again showed his obsession rather than love. He was ready to take the MC with him even if he disagreed (Which he didn't).

Some parts are illogical and clichè. The MC and ML are too OP. Villains and some supporting characters are somewhat too 2D. BUT, regardless, I still enjoyed the ride and got hooked to read it until the end.

Imo, each arcs are ok, and the author managed to connect everything well. Tho a bit hurried but it was okay for me.

Perhaps, I just find some dialogue constructions and story telling awkward.. But yeah I just skim it if it's becoming too cringy xD

Anyways, my actual rating is 4.4 but to raise... more>> this novel's ratings I decided to be generous *coughs*. It was not something unique enough for me to reread but I do think it was good enough for me to waste time with. <<less

It's said to be quick transmigration but the first arc ended at 50ish lol. I wonder how many arcs it would be. It ended up being 3 arcs.

First arc is super long, second arc is only 15 chapters, and last arc is back to the 'real world'.

ML fell in love at first sight with MC and the rest, as they say, is history.

This story got lots of slap back, negative IQ antagonists, and super OP protagonist. It's literally the opposite of this story title. What a supporting role's aura. The... more>> MC cleary has the protagonisy aura lol.

Anyway, it was a short read and quite entertaining. <<less

MTL'd which was doable.

Man I'm a bit sad about this one, I fell in love with the MC - confident, smart, and supposedly hard to romance. But the romance was so so fast!! MC says he's not looking to marry, and then the next thing we know he's engaged and married within like 3 chapters... I wish the romance between the MC and ML was slower, and we get to experience how they interact with one another, more dialogues and whatnot. But the author instead chooses to summarise their dates... more>> so we read them within a blink of an eye.

It got too much when I keep reading how the MC keeps one-upping the antagonists.. same flavour, different scenario, it got a bit boring. <<less

Stopped at Arc 1

Based on other reviews which is kinda same on how the story goes. Arc 1 was long and can be considered as A full short novel [58 chaps/+]

MC is op, = his intelligent memory, very good at face slapping, though he will not counter attack if u just let him be. But anyways villains r villains and they got their due judgement. ML is supportive and straightfoward on their relationship

... more>> Arc1 got me tired so imma take a break for now& check other interesting novels

Arc 1 was with a twist about soldiers so I pushed myself to finish it <<less

2.5/5

This is what I would describe as a typical novel of its genre with good enough twists to keep its readers hooked. When you read the first chapters, it has a captivating plot and world-building, but the further you read, the novel becomes cliche. Some might like this novel, some won't. Honestly, I read until the end because of the first arc and was expecting the same level of writing until the end. I was curious about the novel’s ending when I realized this is a minor world-hopping novel when... more>> it wasn’t hinted at in the synopsis or the first arc at all.

While the novel had the typical plot and character designs, it was a good enough story to read. Although, I was disappointed with how different the writing was in each arc. The first arc is written well, has a sound plot and world development, and the MC and ML were low-key OP but not disgustingly obvious. We see their personalities, the love story of the MC and ML, and enough filler chapters in this arc. If arc 1 was well written and balanced, arc 2 is very plot-focused.

Arc 2 is fast-paced like the MC was bulldozing its way to the end of the arc. There are little to no filler chapters like there was no real reason for the author to write more besides the essential plots. It felt like this arc almost had no romance at all. Frankly, this arc was quite bland. On the other hand, the last part of the novel was rushed.

Personally, the last arc felt like the author couldn’t wait to finish the novel. Arc 2 was very concise but was articulated well enough and just lacked more depth to it. Meanwhile, Arc 3 was rushed and a little clumsily written but had more substance due to the filler chapters and plot twists.

As said before, this is a hit-or-miss novel; some might like or not like it. There’s enough plot, plot twists, character development, and world-building for the story to be interesting, though the story is quite a cliche. While the ending seems rushed, the first two arcs were still written well enough, especially arc 1. <<less

So it satisfies my desire to read more QT novels. It's certainly not the best written story ever but I generally enjoy this author's stories. So it's acceptable. It's very adherent to the common QT plots.

Only thing is that the first arc seemed sooooo long compared to the following arcs. The second arc was over in the blink? And just when I thought there would be another arc, it turns out to be the "main world" of the ML. So it's QT but doesn't quite give me the sense of... more>> QT. The reviewer hydra sums it up perfectly. The first arc was enough and this story could have just ended as a regular transmigration story. <<less

Kind of hard to rate lol. I'm a QT fan and while this one is quite different in certain aspects from the usual, I don't necessarily think the difference is a good thing 😅 kind of like the author got too into the first arc where the face slapping was kinda overly prolonged it was almost masochistic. The ending of the first arc was very sweet and satisfying however. But then the second arc happened and it's like the author is rushing towards getting the whole thing over with.

Wow, this is... bad. I love my insanely OP protagonist and no-brain face slaps, but the execution here is just very hopeless.

First with the protagonist know-it all ability. The MC here can do practically everything, but (at least till where I've read) there's not even a slight story, past mention, background or anything on why he have that particular ability/abilities. Author could've slapped a paragraph long about how MC past upbringing as the cause of his many talents, but there's not even that. So every time MC shows another insane... more>> talent of his out of nowhere, I just cringed so hard reading it. His personality (and also actually all of the cast we've me, even the ML) being bland AF was also not helping his case.

I was certainly expecting more when I see how the review said that arc 1 is great, but yeesh... The arc is mid tier at best. The only thing why someone might rate it higher is because the theme of the plot in that arc was quite hard to find in any other QT
Spoiler

MC attends a literature art military department which is just a bunch of art students who were taught to entertain the actual soldiers (tbh, I still can't help but to think that this department is just a glorified 'soldier's self-sufficient entertainer', yknow, that 'kind' of entertainer, to justifiably encourage the army and all of that). There's also typical cannon fodder and other people who'll stick long enough till the author can give them their 'punishment' (which I think some are non-deserving btw). Sh*ts happens because of it, MC will disclose another talent of his in convenient time, yada-yada, you can guess the rest. My hope risen once more when I see MC joining the actual army, but then I realized it happened only after WE NEAR THE END OF THE ARC. Oh, and do I mentioned that it was cut further more bcuz the MC was pregnant? :)

Sorry, but 3 stars is all I can give to this novel. <<less

Thoughts after finishing the first arc:
The main hurdle this novel has failed to pass to truly enter the QT genre is pacing. I understand why 58 chapters were given to the first world, but what I don't understand is why TB still tried to write like one of her (?) normal novels. There was a lot of content that could have been cut down on like the band practice. It should still be in the novel, but it doesn't need 10 pages of descriptors. Sometimes saying less is more.... more>> I think Tangerine boat had done so much better than their usual level in this novel that it had gotten my expectations up too high by the end of the arc.

Arc 1:
Spoiler

I will start with the good. It was a relatively happy ending. The MC spent a lifetime with ML, had 5 kids, and no expectation to return to his original world upon his death. That means the MC felt relatively satisfied with the way his life went without many regrets. Now onto the bad parts!

The end of the arc felt extremely rushed, especially in the way the author handled the villain cleanup. The characters themselves did not want a bad ending for (most) of the villains, yet the author outright bankrupted, incarcerated, or killed each of them within a few chapters. We never find out why the two families had a feud. We don't find out how the intelligence work went for MC's friend. The worst off character is ML's boyfriend. It's really tragic to be driven to su*cide like that. His primary sin was being born to the wrong mother. He was moved a little by the MC's face, but he never thought of giving up on his partner. The end is partially his fault since it's implied he circumvented the birth control method he and his partner were using and he didn't listen to the advice of his paternal family. The latter is mostly his mother's fault. I really thought he was going to get a redemption arc for a second. I even imagined him holding his laughing nieces and nephews while sitting in a wheelchair.

[collapse]

I don't know if I'll read further. I'll return to update my review once I do. <<less

like when MC and ML go to mall with their mothers and meet a girl from sun family. She only says hi but ML rushes to call her ugly and smelly. Like you can refuse or ignore her but why insult her when she's literally only saying hi?? Also the constant comparison of talent, beauty and money between MC and ye chen. I also don't understand how qin yuwei is able to stay with du patriarch after sun ting? Like they completely whitewashed qin and du patriarch. I get that sun ting does some bad stuff but it's not like the other two are innocent...

Favorite author🎉

Transmigration through time and space of 4 worlds but the story is only about 3 worlds so there is only 3 arcs. A lot of family schemes.

Arc 1: historical war type setting but more towards the modernization. Talented shou who can sing, play instruments and dance who is a Ger (can get pregnant). Cold faced military gong type who is only warm to the shou. You get to see the babies in this arc (though its only a small part). There's a lot of face slapping against the... more>> 'shou and gong protagonists' and they have a really bad ending though it doesn't mention how the protagonist shou's life actually ends up.

Arc 2: A more modern world where the internet is already running and there is already malls and cars etc. So its basically modern time. Young master type shou x business deity type gong. Family schemes and face slapping included. You don't get to see the kids but the arc does mention that they had kids

Arc 3: Interstellar world (the last world) the gong is the war god and the shou (you'll see later I totally guessed it though!)

Extras: basically what would've happened if there was never any space time intervention from the start. <<less

I'm dropping this at Chapter 10. So far, 3/5 for the story and 2/5 for the entertainment factor.

Plotwise, it's just the typical BL quick transmigration story. However, seeing that this first arc will be over 50 chapters, I just don't see myself liking it enough to read the remaining 40. The translation quality is also a factor why this entertained me so little; it felt like reading MTL at some points.

I'm not sure if I'll ever return to this, but if you're the type who likes long QT worlds, you... more>> may like this. <<less
