The Experimental Log of the Crazy Lich

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

This is the story of a crazy lich who possesses an internal game system and brings catastrophe to the entire world.

“Let’s look at the daily quests today… it’s the damned choose one-of-two-options-type again. Destroy a town with a population of 30,000 people or above; reward: 10,000 evil points. Steal lollipops from 3 children; reward: 1 evil point. If neither of the quests is completed, then 2 points will be deducted.”

“Tsk! You think I’m s*upid? If I really destroyed a town, a crusade of Epic-ranked Holy Knights would definitely come hunting me down. Even if I earned the points, there wouldn’t be any life left in me to spend them. I better just go be a kindly lollipop bandit.”

I’ve already had enough of being a notorious lich. Who says that a lich can’t be a good person? I’m definitely going to beat this damned system and be an upright and dignified good man.

Series was great at the start. I loved story about underground city and its people. MC also was fun to read about. What I dont like comes after revival. This series turns into common "MC is great and this is how he is op". Also my most hated harem genre rises its head, altough it isnt that bad. But clearly changeing direction half way hurt my review.

I should have given 4 stars but my phone dont allow that

*SLIGHT SPOILER BELOW* - I don't know how to use the spoiler tag so yeah...

Spoiler

I love all the characters! Roland (MC) is one of the best characters I have ever read about! The MC is very well flushed out with a somewhat mysterious/tragic past, so it makes a great read, especially since the MC has like a ton of secrets and can be considered strong from the start. The side characters who are friends with the MC are also OP, so it is super satisfying to see how they jump in to help the MC at times. There are a lot of good points about this novel, so I'll just list a few below.

Pro:

1. Original plot about an evil lich (MC/transmigrator), who has lived several lives, try to change the world to a more democratic one (equality for all, less racism, etc.).

2. OP-ish MC with a tragic past and a mysterious charm with loyal subordinates/friends. The MC's goal/mindset doesn't change throughout the story, which I really like because he actually sticks to his guns unlike other MCs who's personality turns 180 after a few hundred chapters.

3. The comedy is actually comedy. The funny moments are actually entertaining to read about.

4. The MC's love interests are interesting characters. So far, there are three of them. One is a potential hero who will eventually kill the MC because the MC is an evil lich (may wreck havoc at the end), one is a demon marchioness, and one is an undead bone dragon. As a fujoshi, I actually want the MC to be paired with another male character... XD

Overall, I am enjoying the story and wish there were more chapters out! Highly recommend as a good way to pass time!

It's absolutely fantastic! It draws you in with a comedic plot but starts to ramp up a bit.

the only bad thing about this novel is the romance, it's funny but it gets repetitive. The female leads go "haha s*upid MC loser virg*n" and the MC goes "yeah ok shmuck" then the female leads pummel him to death.

very great romance dude! Oh yeah, the character development, it would be great if they actually changed but they usually just stay the same. I mean... when you're living for like 400 years+... more>> it makes sense why your personality hasn't changed much, but god why can you combine the radiance of Roland Mist with the seriousness and wit of Yongye and Blackhand (edginess is balanced by the goofiness) I want a cool character, not comic relief! <<less

Story is so funny and not boring. This always succes to make me feel surprised. The story is so complex. Interaction between MC and the love interest is so unique and fun to watch. Give it a try and you will get hooked to this novel.

Experimental logs of the crazy lich is one of the finest novel's I've ever read in my life. As I started this novel I was attatched to the daily schenanigans of the protagonist Roland Mist but as I kept reading the novel I suddenly realize that I care a lot about these fictional characters. When Roland does something s*upid I'm infuriated, when his schemrs work out perfectly I go "Sasuga-Roland!!" At the core of it, Roland is a flawed MC. He's selfish, arrogant and irresponsible but it's those traits that... more>> make him so likeable to the audience because we realize that those flaws are what makes him so human to us. I've read novels with perfect MC's before like Lord of Mysteries or Throne of Magical Arcana where these MC's use the most logical and practical approach to deal with their problems which makes them feel so distant from us. I've also seen novels which focus only on the selfishness of the MC, classic chinese face-slapping which makes the MC pure garbage. Experimental Logs of the Crazy Lich is an exposition of the life of Roland Mist, a character that embraces their own flaws yet relentless to acomplish his own goals. He's an MC that we can find at a local bar and that's what makes him so special. Not only that but the entire world-building is on a masterclass level. There will be some info dumps but these info dumps explain why things work in a certain way keenly differentiating itself from typical chinese novels where we can use the yin yang blast for god knows whatever the reason. Abilities and Magic is thoroughly explained which makes the world realistic. The storyline alongside the plot structure is much better than 99% of most stories I've read out there. We don't see the cliche storyline of [Garbage] -> [Legendary Item] -> [Academy] -> [War] -> [Hero] but rather the story skips all that predictable bullsh*t and jumps straight into the juice. The power levels are interesting and each character can have an entire novel written about themselves.

I would definetly recommend this novel to readers who just finished reading a typical light novel as the beginning of this journey is the end of most others. (Ie. Roland already finished his power-leveling. This is kinda the post-game in pokemom but so much freaking better) <<less

The story is worth reading untill the end of first act. After that it goes down hill. The best parts of this novel is its comedy, does endless plot twists and not knowing what will happen next. But after the end of first act comedy become dull with same lines and thrill of read about plot twists become an unlucky persons story..

The story is great and the humor is great, but the author has trouble mixing them to a digestible novel. Instead of progressing the story and laughing about the funny antics of Beifeng, the Gentleman club and the system, you get to laugh a few chapters and then get shoved some ridiculously deep world background in your throat. And the worst part, the background in itself is also very thorough and thought out. Just -as I said- the author doesnt mix them well. Furthermore the plot doesnt really develop until... more>> chapter ~100 where you finally get to know why the novel has its name. It is enjoyable, definitely a high grade novel and translation, but still could be improved. 4* <<less

Great series overall, some of the pros include:

    • Solid character roster
        • While there's a lot of characters that get introduced over time, it isn't too hard to remember their names as they all have unique qualities that make them stand out.
    • Interesting plot
        • Not very predictable with lots of interesting developments
        • Has a different presentation style at times where there are sometimes disjoints between chapters, but the story links together soon after (within the next several chapters).
    • Great world building (One of the most consistent and interesting worlds out there, and has one of the ability/power class systems I've seen in a long, long time.)
    • Lots of comedy
    • Translation is really good (Starts off shaky but later there's hardly any mistakes)
Biggest gripe with the series is that the author tends to repeat a fair bit of the world building and thought process of the MC at times. Its nice because it allows the reader to fully understand whats going on and reinforces the world building, but sometimes it drags on and becomes annoying.

Definitely one of the best novels I've read on this site. Story changes quite drastically over time, so don't be put off in the early chapters. It's a pretty long read but once you get into it you can't help but want more.

Its also on qidian, so novelupdates doesn't list its progress in the translations.

At first it was a bit boring up to c50 and I set it aside to read later, and then I binge read it and caught up to the days it would update because it was so good. I guess I just stopped after a while because there was too little action for my preference, but it still caught my attention none the less after a while making me read it again after a while. So I would recommend this novel to readers if I could.

It's good. Funny and smart, and the story is really interesting.

But there really is a f*cking shitload of exposition and infodumping. The first half of every chapter is just painful and frustrating to go through. You're reading action and suspense and glorious heroism, and then you click "next page", and it's all brought to a screeching halt just so that the author can go on for 4000 words (on average) just for some boring, ultra detailed worldbuilding crap. There should be better places to put all of that, I think,... more>> so that it doesn't completely break the flow of the story. It's like the author is just trying to fill up his word quota, at this point. Really annoying. <<less

It's okay and that's about it. The world building is surprisingly pretty good, but is generally served in the form of, surprisingly not boring, info dumps. As you'd expect from a comedy focused story; it's not funny, in fact it's more on the boring with with most of the comedy feeling forced. The side characters are pretty well developed, but something in the back of my mind labels them as simply boring or fake no mater how much the info dumps state otherwise.

The biggest issue by far, the same issue... more>> that plague's 90% of the novels on this website, is the very poor translation. Despite having a group of proof editors, the lines all feel very clunky and disconnected, not to mention the copious amounts of spelling and basic grammatical errors. I've heard the 2nd and 3rd translators are better, but that requires getting through 150 chapters. <<less

It's a good novel but I just struggle to finish this novel. Felt that Book 3 is kinda slow although the author did say something about more slice of life. Translation was shaky early on due to change in translators but it gradually got better. I feel that the comedy is kinda hit or miss because Chinese meme/jokes tend to get lost in translation or lose their appeal once they get translated. Have to say, author is a really cultured man with his arsenal of memes.

Memes aside, the story is... more>> pretty good but there are some inconsistent parts like the power system, levels and opponent strengths. Personally feel that this novel is an acquired taste and that it is probably not suitable for those who just started reading webnovels. <<less

on webnovel (dot) com for further updates.

This novel is actually quite fun and pun-ny, establishing its own internal tropes which create a satire and comedy against other series which are overly too formal and exploit drama, like MGA. After chapter 70, pretty much all relationships which relate to MC are set in stone. His allies do not really increase all that much and the story becomes an 'adventure of misfortune' to MC, his allies and enemies.

Just beware that you will have to skip a lot of it to stay sane... more>> due to constant infodumps, fillers, useless technology and exposition. Almost every chapter begins with a dump. (How is it even possible for an author to produce so much info?!?!)

Author rarely focuses on MC's power and getting stronger, focusing on the irony of other characters, Gods, countries and exploiting his strength of Law to become OP. Kind of like 'The Wandering Inn' on Royal Road where MC does not specialize on being the hero or anything large for that matter. Even if he has the super-useful 'System', it is actually another force of unluckiness imposed on him.

After chapter 68, the author is really good at finding useless clutter to fill his chapters which is repetitive and is supposed to establish the worldbuilding, but is just infodumping. Some chapters are purely BS infodumps, which I have gladly skipped with no consequence. This filler is useless infodumping can easily be skipped also seems to be stream-of-consciousness explaining his actions to a minute point and hardly has anything to do with MC.

Tragedy is a common trope in this series, where MC has it occur to him constantly. It was initially quite tragic with his country, but with his 0 Luck stat, it has balanced out to the terror of daily quandary and mayhem as a 'Star of Misfortune' which also cements MC's inability to remove his virg*n status. He is too thick-headed for a serious relationship anyways. <<less
