An ordinary young man on earth, Xia Feng, traveled to a world of sword and magic, and took the body of Lucien Evans, another ordinary young man.

Seemingly this was a world of traditional western fantasy, yet he discovered the astonishing similarities between the earth and this world, and between science and the so-called arcane magic…

“Knowledge is power”? Soul, magic, quantum, Theory of Relativity, cognitive world, music and real world……

What was the true nature of that world?

I've liked it a lot for what it is. I got some problems with it and it's not on the level of the author's later work Lord of the Mysteries, but overall enjoyable.

The novel starts by going heavily into music the first 100 chapters or so. I don't get what a radical new "piano fingering" means, but it's still fun to read about how MC starts a musical revolution.

Then it does a total switch into physics and science, as magic in this world is based on understanding the laws of... more>> the universe. Not as in "law of fire" or what you normally expect, but as in "law of thermodynamics", "the uncertainty principle", "quantum mechanics" etc.
Sorcerers base their cognitive world on their understandings and being proven wrong can quite literally blow their mind, which is a really cool concept.
My absolute favorite part of the novel is when new science (arcana) papers gets published and all the preparation, discussing, experiments and arguing around it.

So far from my understanding, the novel has never crossed from real actual science to bullsh*t made up science. Scientific-vise the world is equivalent to 1864, while MC brings it step by step closer to 1960.
It's a pretty engaging way to actually learn something. Definitely recommend it, but I think you have to at least have a mild interest/fascination with physics to not get bored. <<less

Amazing!! If you are looking for a well built, rational, well explained novel, and also with enough plot without cliffhangers and lovable characters. This is for you. Just be reminded that the FL loves only our ML as a man, otherwise she is interested in women. If it is not a problem for you, as it was nothing to be bothered for me, I loved every bit of it.

Cute, dark, OPness, progression, character development everything fits in. One of the greatest! Not rushed at all.

Really love this story. It is very logical story as MC is not overpowered or anything. He got one cheat, the library in his mind, and it not able to access until he understand the basic of the subject. Even though this story is about magic but every magic and in order for magician to evolve, they need to understand science and mathematics. While it might be boring for the part about explaining theory and discussion about the physics, quantum and etc, but author try to make it readable and... more>> push some joke about reaction of surrounding people. MC character is good and well-develop, I love this story MC character very much. He is not like the typical Chinese fantasy main character that focus on killing, revenge and making harem. MC behavior is an ok normal guy, focus on study and try very hard in everything, make himself stronger, reasonable, not on the warpath and kill everyone that dislike him but not an idiot or going on about forgive everyone including his enemy. Moreover, other characters are good too, they are reasonable like normal people in the society, don't have those annoying type like majority of Chinese novel. <<less

A great read, even though it was written by a Chinese author, it maintains full immersion into its hardcore mideval setting, from the way they converse to the way they act. ≪does not waver between xianxia tropes etc..>

10/10 World building, such detail put into the premise of the magical <arcane system>, the sequences in action also provides proper sastifaction.

Character development is mild and gradual with characters not forgotten or dropped, romance subplot is also very natural. The ending is also filling for the readers.

Though cannnot be compared to masterpieces such... more>> as tr*sh count, ominicent reader, Book eating magician.
Overall a great read. Would recommend. <<less

well... I know this mightn't be right but I can't help comparing it to LOM I read before and personally I think it's a level below, so my advise is not read LOM before this one if you want to fully enjoy it.

As a transmigration novel with golden finger this novel is better than many of its genre I read but the problem is that I read similar or ones close to it before, not to mention a better LOM so it's not that fresh for me which affects my... more>> judgement of the novel.

Although I didn't have the same thrill when reading the author's other 2 novels LOM & EAI it's still not a bad one with its unique elements and story.

Spoiler

I don't agree with the writer believes about religion and god though

I finished the novel today and I've gotta say it was a really enjoyable experience. The scientific developments throughout the novel are really interesting and plausible, as well as the character development. The world-building is thorough and intriguing. All in all, this is one of the best novels I've read from this site.

Hi! This is my first time leaving a short review, so let's just get on with it and bare with me..

The story is fun, it was a good read. The world building's well thought out (love the middle ages setting), characters were unique, the MC's definitely not a ret*rd. It was great but not to the point of Lord of the Mysteries great. I had mixed feeling about the romance subplot, I think it lowered the rating a little bit. Some things are unexplained yet, so I hope it'll... more>> get better the following chapters. All in all, it was a fun read and recommended. This is a good book and you should give it a try and add it to your reading list. ◝ (⑅•ᴗ•⑅) ◜..°♡

I both love and hate this entire novel. The ending was so perfectly planned out though that it changed my opinion up to a 5. I will briefly go into the details. Beware spoilers.

Whatever moron taught this man physics 1 needs to go shoot himself. The magic system of the entire book revolves around your "knowledge" and "innovation" of mathematical concepts. You would expect then that the man would put idk 5 minutes into reading a free textbook on physics or mathematics.

He continuously states blah blah theory of relativity and uses the gay ass popularized e=mc^2 instead of the real equation which is e=ymc^2 where lamda (y) =1/ (sqrt (1- (u^2/c^2)))

I understand physics is hard, I'm a physics student in university. Nonetheless at least read past line four of the f*cking Wikipedia article. None of the content in this nov is original, at least he knows how to build characters.

Never write fantasy again, your style of writing is suited for slice of life or romance not magic.

This is a good novel, but it is not for everyone.

3 aspects might drive away readers:

1 - (minor spoiler)

Spoiler

Several chapters in the begining of the novel focus on music.
They bring a lot of subjective descriptions on music (maybe caused by the nature of the chinese language when translated into english) which do not push the plot forward and can be quite boring.

[collapse]

2 - (minor spoiler)

Spoiler

The magic system is based on knowledge.
Because of this a lot of chapters on the mid and late stages of this novel are dedicated to discussions on physics and chemistry and can be quite dull depending on the reader.

3 - This is not an action packed novel and it is a bit slow paced.

If you are not bothered by any of this 3 reasons, I would reccomend this novel to you. <<less

Things I liked

  1. The magic system is unique and I found leveling up through writing academic papers interesting
  2. Makes learning the history of physics interesting
  3. Smart, rational MC
  4. Female love interest is stronger or equally as strong as the MC.
Things I didn't like:

  1. Subpar romance. The romance feels incredibly forced. It would have been better off if
    Spoiler

the female lead didn't suddenly become straight just for the MC.

    [collapse]
  2. The writing is not great
  3. The later chapters when the MC reaches the top become boring because there is no longer any threat of dying. The MC is too well prepared for any threats.
  4. The story caters to incredibly niche interests. I don't really have an interest in music composition (early part of the novel), and all the quantum mechanics flies over my head (later part of the novel). The sweet spot is when the MC becomes a level 1 sorcerer, then up until grand arcanist.

This novel has one of the best world building, magic system, plot and character development. It is really one of the buried gems.

I think lower rating are because of extensive scientist theories that are used to explain some parts of magic. Those without scientific background or knowledge will not find it interesting enough.

But I can assure the readers that it's only a part of the story, and helps to enrich the plot as well as the characters. Please give it read to encourage authors to write similar well thought out... more>> novels and the translators who let us enjoy these kind of wonderful novels. <<less

Good read, some might not like it since the power system and character building aren't as mature as the Author's future novel, Lord of the Mysteries but I think this novel also has plus points that should be appreciated.

The blending of real-world concepts into magic isn't unique but what is unique is that the author hasn't totally butchered it, it's a good mix of correct detail to make it seem realistic yet not deep enough to confuse an average reader. There are however many terms readers might need to Google... more>> to truly appreciate and it is a bit of a stretch sometimes for the MC to somehow blow the minds (literally) of all these ancient sorcerers with Newtonian concepts etc.

The romance in this novel is very good compared to Lord of the Mysteries (non-existent thus far) and the female lead is an interesting character. She shows maturity and independence many flower vase female leads lack in both love and in fighting.

Power systems in this novel are pretty straightforward compared to LoM and the MC progresses pretty rapidly. Fights and scheming are also not as frequent due to the MC's very privileged status and how he spends a lot more time theorizing.

Overall, a high recommend for fans of the author's works and of a magic system related to real world concepts. <<less

All things aside, the world building is really good. It is the biggest reason I loves this novel so much.

I really like the author's aproach on the magic system and science. It actually makes it so that the smarter the mage is, the stronger can he be.

In a lot other's novel, mages/wizards are always portrayed as someone smart, bookworm, really likes research, but they never explain why you have to be smart to be a mage.

That is not the case with the novel, its unique magic system combines both fantasy... more>> and reality. So people like the MC who has modern science knowledge and good mathematics skill have an incredible advantage over everybody else.

This is really interesting to me as often other powerful mages in other story often rely on bloodline or talent (like having large mana capacity) to be powerful.

Of course, since the author tries really hard to explain magic with modern science theres bound to be loopholes or some nonsense mixed up. But hey, this is a fictional novel, so its okay to be fictional right?

The pacing is also a bit slow, So I guess its not for you who wants back to back action or crazy leveling MC.

As other review mentioned, the MC often resorts to plagiarizing works of our world classical musician and inventors. But hey, he is a transmigrator, he is not talented musician/researchers in any way or have some great destiny within him. He is just a normal modern person who loves magic and trying to survive. He even started to become a musician just because its the easiest way to earn some money. If it doesnt comfort you, later on he plagiarized less and less as he also starts to become a good musician/researcher himself. Of course, that is hudreds of chapters in.

This story, as any other stories, have some flaws. But if you are into learning about the world that the author has created beautifully like the MC and me, then I guarantee that you will like this novel too. <<less

The novel has a unique approach to magic, in that magic relies on an understanding of the world which can be obtained through science, or as it's known in this universe, arcana. I enjoy the amount of detail that is put into the world, since for me the novel is a window into a world which advances quite like ours, just with magical and divine elements to it. The fact that Lucien, despite reincarnating, doesn't have an overwhelming advantage as compared to other reincarnated MCs is great, since most if... more>> not all of his accomplishments are from his own hard work and careful planning.

I just have to say the novel gave me a newfound appreciation for classical music and scientific achievements. <<less

Pros

it has quite unique concept of mixing stuff together. I did not expect the music thing to be mixed with fantasy, magic and knights.

The world building is also more complicated than just your normal VR novels

Also, less dragging than your usual cultivation novel. With just enough details to keep you satisfied but won't put you in a dazed of endless words.

Cons

I wasn't sure how he got his library and how he developed his tenacity on the get go when he's just an ordinary person from earth. There are definitely sloppy parts but they are not as glaring as the other novels out there. <<less

This is a really good novel at first I was skeptical and started reading it and then was hooked. It's about a guy who was reincarnated but has to struggle to reach the top and he goes through all sorts of difficulties in order to learn magic. This novel is awesome. It is very nice that the main character does not piss me off and make completely ret*rded choices based on impulse, the novel is very refreshing to read because it's not garbage like all of the 1000+ chapters of cultivation novels where the character is obsessed with power and followed by a harem, honestly, I am super tired of the cultivation novels where a one level jump from 3 to 4 makes you invincible to everyone below 4. The author of this novel creates a super... more>> immersive environment and does not completely ignore everything written in the past chapters like all of the cultivation novels. <<less

The world building of this novel is the best out of all Chinese novels I read. After reading RTW when I was craving for more Science in novels, I found this and it didn't disappoint me.

It was never boring - Music in the first volume, Escaping in the second volume and Arcana in the third volume - all were interesting.

The character design was not as good as that of RTW as of now. But given enough time all the characters have enough space to grow into something big.

The only worry... more>> I have is the translation speed. I have read many comments saying that update stability is a problem for this novel. I definitely recommend everyone who liked RTW to give it a read and the ones who haven't read RTW can read that one after reading Throne of Magical Arcana <<less

This is probably the most well written Chinese webnovel I have ever read.

Characters actually have personality and character development, something that is very rare in this genre.

Another great thing is beautiful combination of REAL science and magic. With math, physics, chemistry, writing research papers, etc. Required to be powerful mage.

The Spiritual Library "cheat" MC gains at the start equals to just having bag with a lot science books from Earth. It literary works like photographic memory, but just for books. This means that MC still has to work his ass... more>> off to be able to understand and use this knowledge.

The main reason this doesn't have batter rating is because of very weak start (especially first 30ch), and unexpected focus of first volume (135ch) on music.

EDIT: Holy sh*t! This has LITERALLY mind-blowing scientific research.
Spoiler

MC is making heads of powerful figures from both sides literally explode, just by publishing his research papers! XD

I'm giving it a 4, but like a very strong 4. There are portions that outshine 5 star stories. The ideas behind the magic system are super unique, and pretty interesting. I doubt there is another story that does a better job of combining science and magic. The world is fun and the intrigue is up there with the best of them.

The weakness is that it can be a little dry at times. It also tends to move from event to event, missing some of the details that ground other... more>> stories. Explanations of events can sometimes go from incredibly detailed to very vague, often within the same chapter.

I love that you can see a lot of the ideas in this that eventually became part of Lord of the Mysteries. I would recommend reading it, especially for Cuttlefish fans. <<less
