PSA: Ignore the negative reviews!! I can't believe I almost missed out on reading this novel because of them. Insanity. And none even finished the novel, so honestly, it's not even worth considering their opinions as fully representing this novel.

To the point about MC being overly "dumb" with trying to follow the plot - I struggle to see how?? He's literally been thrust into the plot of a show he was an actor in, so of course he's going to think the plot is what it is? Transmigration is already... more>> a weird enough concept, so kudos to him for trying to adapt to the circumstances without any guidance- the poor guy doesn't even have a system to help him out and he just wants to go home.

I've read novels where I had to suspend disbelief over characters motivations, but this was not one of them. If MC had thought everyone was actually gay and the plot was different than the show, now that would be the moment I'd have to suspend disbelief at him pulling knowledge out of nowhere!

I definitely felt the secondhand embarrassment at MC's antics, but I never felt annoyed or like he was being overly oblivious. When he realizes his feelings (if you're concerned how long it takes) :
Spoiler

it's about midway through, honestly not dragged out at all in my opinion

[collapse]
he's quick to adapt and his emotional intelligence is actually quite high. Overall just a very likable and well rounded character, and it makes me upset to see the slander just because he's not an OP protag who's able to immediately figure everything out.

Though both MC and ML are quite strong, they go off against much stronger opponents most of the time, so they don't come off as OP at all. It's honestly pretty refreshing, even if it does get a bit repetitive how many times MC passes out on ML lol. ML is a little black bellied at times though and he takes every opportunity he can to eat MC's tofu. Getting to carry MC around is just a pro for him.

When they confirm their relationship though, ML is truly the most devoted and kindhearted lover, not to mention humble and respectful. I really liked his character! The romance is very wholesome and they are clearly equal partners. Genuinely had me invested in their relationship.

Warning though, I did not expect the knives in the third part. I was on the edge of tears multiple times, and ML breaking down had me breaking down. It's not a heart wrenching immediate pain but more a subtle, slowly building sadness. I think this is the first time I've been so devastated about a couple with their first time together, like actual tears streaming down my face. They then made me laugh with their pillow talk, like the rollercoaster of emotions that they are.

The more you read the more it feels like the drama was heavily censored and the source material smells suspiciously fruity:
Spoiler

In typical danmei fashion, nearly every major character is gay. The story of the fathers was seriously depressing as hell, and the OG plot... my god hahaha

[collapse]

Overall just a great story, highly recommend! <<less

Great story, a novel I’d love to have on my bookshelf to re-read. I’m actually really happy that everyone had a happy ending. It does feel kind of... Too easygoing sometimes, but I like that in stories. I like more sweetness than bitterness.

Interesting characters, good plot, easy to read, and it never had me bored. The amount of gay couples popping up had me rolling, the comedy fit in well to the story.

Sigh...i got misled by some reviews... so to make this clear, MC transmigrated into the book world and it is realy a book world from start to end. Now that I said this maybe it's easier to understand why MC was dead set on fulfilling the plot. To be honest since MC transmigrated without a system it is unclear why he staunchly believes he needs to keep to the original storyline including his death, though that will change. Spoiler as to when he changed this behavior :

Spoiler

Chapters 60 to 80. It's more of an ongoing transition while falling in love.

[collapse]

The interactions between MC and ML have a nice flow. There is actually communication even while trying to hide some things so there are basically no misunderstandings.

When you reach the snow mountain part... please keep tissue around. I burned through a whole box there (not really but it feels like it).

You can feel that the writer had a storyline mapped out from the beginning and it makes sense. Unfortunately it was a bit bumpy at some points. I also felt like it was packed with so much high tension and emotional attacks that it tiered me out a bit. Still it kept me on my toes that I wanted to know what happens next. So while I'm not sure if I want to read this again, I'm happy I've read it at least once.

Oh and about people complaining about s*upid MC and ML... well I think they aren't s*upid but normal somewhat naive young people. They are better than others but not too OP. So yeah they might have brain holes happening but who hadn't at that age? I like this better than a 18 year old behaving like 30.

So this novel is no masterpiece but still really good. <<less

I can't wait for the last few chapters. Really like this novel a lot and the only negative thing I have to say is I wish it were more explicit lol.

I think the ML is great - he's a rare breed of a nice, upstanding guy in light novels without the blackbelly or coldness and he isn't dumb or oblivious at all. I especially like how he caught onto everything the MC did (even if MC isn't very smart in hiding things).

The MC is not OP, very relatable, realistic, fun... more>> to read and sad to see. His obliviousness and naïvety can be a wee bit annoying sometimes. For example, when the plot is clearly going offtrack, you'd stop to think if following the original script would be more harmful than beneficial, and you'd also question if you really will be guaranteed to return alive to your original world after dying in this fictional world. Except, the MC doesn't. He stubbornly follows the script at all times. I will say that he's not very bright as a character or person, really. But I do like how he's one of those rare transmigrated characters who miss home and has real reactions to the bloodthirsty chaos of a fictional xianxia world. The way he tries to be villainous and follow the script but fails with the ML seeing through him every time is funny and cute.

I'm just glad that it's not a tragic ending, though I'm one of those bastards who feel that a tragic end would make the bleak hopelessness of the MC and the underlying angst that much more heartbreaking. <<less

I love this novel! I want more of it after the extra. I was nervous about reading this due to the low reviews at the front page but I gave it a try and after a few chapters I was hooked. One of the complaints in the reviews was that the MC spent too long being obsessed with trying to follow the plot but... not really? He gave up on a female lead after he realized the girl was already in love and committed to someone else. Also MC and... more>> ML confess to each other a little after the halfway point, the rest of the novel was about them solving some issues in jianghu. Also unlike other novels, the MC and ML are not the strongest in jianghu, not even close. They're considered skilled and talented for their age range but there are several seniors way more powerful than they are. This novel was really well written and I felt the pacing was good, no particular plot holes or anything at the end. I want to read more from this author if all her novels are of this quality! <<less

I enjoyed it so much! I saw some plot holes but I didn't mind. It had been in my to-read list for quite some time and I regret that I didn't read as soon as I found this. It's really good! If you're into transmigration, older bottoms and no r*pe but not hard to please like me, this is also for you! My only complain is all the smut fades to black as usual. The censorship in danmeis is really saddening.

OK I was invested.

Truly... you got me good in the first half. I salute you, Poplar Breeze, because I didn't think I'd be s**ked into this novel the way I did. Before you scoff & doubt, hear me out. We know how this "transmigrating into the villain of a book" business works. This isn't our first walk around these parts; we already can guess how the MC's going to attempt to stay in his character settings & avoid derailing from the supposed plot. We also know how his tactics of... more>> reviling the ML will only do the opposite by garnering his undivided attention. It's an overused plot setting, but it's still fun to see how different authors tackle it.

But I'm telling you man- THIS WAS EXECUTED NICELY. The plot was great, the characters were more dimensional than I presumed. The setting & worldbuilding was more interesting than the main CP, dare I say. The generational drama- ENTERTAINING. I have enjoyed my time with this novel greatly. No nonconsensual acts between the main CP, there was fairly good communication, no drawn out misunderstandings, & it was a GREAT SLOWBURN. You can feel the tension between the two; it is thick.

Also can we give a round of applause because for a cultivation novel, I didn't even get a headache. Bless the TL! <<less

  • So far so good. At first I really don't have any expectations for this (Blame that description). Now, I camp at the translation site. My five star rating is mostly influenced by personal preferences. You might like it, you might not. The MC is s*upid (I don't usually spend time on s*upid MCs) but this is s*upid on an endearing way :) Although the author tend to write this on a joking and fluffy manner, there's still some sadness lol. When MC acted this character, he only read the parts where there's him and he didn't really delve deeper into understanding the villain so his knowledge of the plot through the script isn't even that helpful. MC also isn't a very good actor because he's not really one, he's just an internet celebrity because of his face. He protects the ML because he thinks finishing the story and dying is the only way he could go back to his world.

I'm hoping the essence of the novel will remain and even nurture in future chapters. Waiting for more chapters >.<

Oih! It's nice. Balanced angst and comfort. It really was a bit depressing when a certain arc came but the sweet that comes after is worth it. It's a nice read with reasonable main characters and smart to boot.

Arguably, my most hated trope is ' on different sides' or ' our parents did each other wrong so we must not be close', but this was on the light side so I didn't mind. They're father's story is really sad though.

The extra was a surprise though!

I want to like this story. I'm still reading it. But the main character is, frankly, so s*upid he's likely to drown in the rain while gaping at the sky. He repeatedly acknowledges that the story he's familiar with is obviously not what's happening, yet still keeps expecting things to go the way he originally expected. Over, and over, and over again. There's no logic at all to this reasoning, it's just plastic trope that keeps repeating itself for convenience. Honestly, it has the setting and concept to be a... more>> decent story, it just needs 90% of the characters killed off and replaced with people that can at least tie their own shoes. I realize the author meant it to be tropey and obtuse, but they went too far. The other 10% are background characters. <<less

If Tamora Pierce wrote a transmigration danmei novel...

I've seen other reviews saying this novel is predictable and tropey, but let's be honest how many danmei out there isn't trope-y? For me, im giving this novel 5 stars because it has heart, the characters feel genuine and multidimensional within the story context. Which makes sense because the setting *is* a basic cdrama storyline, but the MC character's experience of it reveals more depth and the humanity of people he formerly considered 2d characters. I saw another review saying the relationship between... more>> the MC and ML is boring because the bantering stops once they fall in love, but they do continue bantering - just in a loving way. The MC is a bit of a tsundere, though most of that is him posturing to come off as evil. I find tsundere characters tiresome when outrage and anger is *all* they express but he expresses many different emotions that make him feel more genuine and realistic. The ML is also characterized as a kind and dashing young hero type, and he is a bit like that but he also exhibits an occasional pettiness that I love to see in a character who's supposed to be so perfect. The author builds off the character archetypes set forth by the script and then gives each character much more dimension - in essence restoring the humanity in characters who were originally written for entertaining a TV audience. And the love stories the side characters end up in are so interesting that I wish each had a separate book as well!!!
I also found the writing style lovely and the dialogue snappy and in turns romantic. I read the translation by PurpLy and it made for smooth and engaging reading🙏 <<less

Spoiler

MC transmigrated into the drama that he acted as the main villain. He tries to follow the plot but nothing goes to plan and things deviate left and right. MC tries his best to steer it back on track but the end result is that mc's repeated attempts to save ML (as to not collapse the original storyline) makes ML falls in love with him. MC realizes that this world is much more detailed and complex than what was portrayed in the drama, and when ML confesses, MC decides to throw caution to the wind and reciprocates. Once feelings are established, they go through thick and thin to solve mc's numbered days as MC piled up a bunch of curses, ailments, and poison on himself to save ml. In the end, they realize that the shizun that trained them in their youth was actually the creator of the original novel, and that the events have been following the novel and not the drama script. MC decides to stay in this world and the two live out their days until their death. MC finds himself transmigrated back to reality and goes to find ML who has also transmigrated with him thanks to a system feature.

thoughts

ok this novel is edited mtl and in some parts it really shows (ie really weird names and terminology used) but overall it was decent. The first 3/4 of the story had good build up especially in regards to su yang's and gu feidi's relationship. Theyre sweet and respectful and understanding of each other, willing to do anything to save the other person. Lots of show and not tell scenes which I appreciate. There was a decent cast of reoccurring side characters, the cherry on top being that most of them were gay haha

the last stretch of the novel was so-so and felt rushed. The real killer were the extras, where su yang transmigrated back, and the whole story veered in the direction of some cheesy showbiz trope that left me going ???? It was so unnecessary. Wouldve preferred if the extras showed us post canon married life or the side cps, instead of whatever the hell that was, but whatever. I hate when transmigration novels force MC back to reality at the very end. Gives me 'and it was all a dream' vibes, not a fan. <<less

The comedy tag is well deserved but be ready to shed some tears in the later chapters.

I really like the MC. He is so pure and innocent. Generally, I don't like "dumb" MCs like him but I understand his character. I understand his perspective and I understand why he does what he does.

He is not a super intelligent, super proactive MC. In a sense he is a very normal person. In his real life, he didn't live a life of hardship and never learned to be ruthless or to adapt... more>> to situation. But he did his best in this new world. He might say that he saved the protagonist because he needs the protagonist healthy enough to kill MC. But this is just a lie he tells himself. He is genuinely a sweet, kind and hardworking person. Little offhand sweet comments to his servants, helping out others, saving lives etf. He isn't someone who knows how to deceive or to be ruthless.

The author never explicitly said so but it was quiet clear that he was depressed. His suicidal tendencies got glazed over in the begining but he grew to accept himself and this new world. I like his character growth. When he finally realises no he doesn't wish to die, I felt so so happy for him.

I've seen multiple scathing reviews here denouncing the MC and I wish to say that please give this novel a chance. Its a good novel. Its rivals to lovers and many scenes in it really touched my heart. The relationship ship of the main couple is very sweet. They'll literally die for each other. This isn't a case of typical cold hearted gong x sweet shou stuff that is popular in Chinese BLs. Their relationship is very healthy. <<less

4.8/5 ☆ Cultivation. A great story with great characters! The MC transmigrates into the villain of a book who he acted as in a movie, and aims to absolutely stick to his character role so "he can go home"! He is such a cute character, and I never got bored of his adorable & funny antics even when the people around him already knew he's just a softie inside. The ML is very upright and righteous, but I love how he falls in love with our MC over the course... more>> of the novel!

They both contribute something to their relationship, which makes their bond have "substance" and even more special. They go through many experiences together and support each other even before they knew their own feelings and confessed.

I love how their feelings really developed over time (but you can already feel the sweetness and fluff from the start!), and how everything else was gradual. ++ENEMIES TO LOVERS TROPE IS SO CUTE AND THIS NOVEL PROTRAYED IT SO WELL T.T do yourself a favor and read this gem! Starting from MC's adjustment from a modern world to a historical one was really realistic. Both characters are pure people, straying from the "shameless and super smart shou× manipulative and cold gong" troupe.
