This is, at its core, pretty much a Let's Play series + Cultivators Play Video Games For The First Time reaction video but in webnovel form, sometimes interrupted with your typical xianxia shenanigans like arrogant non-gamer cannon fodders getting faceslapped because playing videogames helps with your cultivation!

3/5 would recommend, because sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and relax.

So I'm in chapter 200 right now and from what I see and the reviews here, ye it gets repetitive. But for me in my opinion its fun to read as long as you don't mind the plot and just read for fun cuz why not im bored af anyways. And yes finally it doesn't have a harem. MC is 'meh' that's all I can describe him. The customers kinda expected it lol. Anyways so far it has been fun and the slice of life in this story is funny.

I gotta say the customers are really s*upid. Lol. And they have zero respect for the shop owner. They always assume that some senior is behind him because they couldn't believe he's powerful. They also always threaten to smash his shop. They always try to belittle and mock him when they know they can always kick him out when he wanted to. He's always the s*upid and despicable one when they're the ones that always has the unreasonable demands and they know it's not in the shop's rules. They're absolutely... more>> annoying. Lol. <<less

At first I found the unusual premise of the story interesting, however it eventually became repetitive. The characters all have a similar reaction, doubting the concept of the internet cafe at first, but in the end they all grow addicted. It becomes tiring to read similar plot repeatedly but I put up with it for a while because I was excited to see the team I root for defeat the other, but it became too much for me to keep up.

I loved it. I truly did.

But why did it end with a cliff-hanger?? If u've read other finished "system-based" novels u would know tht at the end it is always explained where did the "system" pop out from but this time we don't know how in the world a system way above the heavenly will came into existence!

I liked it at the start, but as with many things it started going downhill when it introduced micro-transactions.

In all seriousness as many others have pointed out it's main draw was nostalgia and comedy, but with repetition of the same scenarios and character bloat it becomes boring.

So far with 149 in it's an absolutely hilarious comedic read, very entertaining and fun. If you've watched/read isekai izakaya/restaurant it's that type of concept.
Low-confusing as to how or when MC transmigrated since that's not mentioned except in synopsis.
The biggest downside of all has to be the multitude of names of characters, places, organisations etc. You might need to re-read the entire novel after getting a rough grasp of it if you care for any of the side-/mob characters.

This is a good read except for few:

  1. The Plot is repeated in the same way in every new area the MC goes to.
  2. Sometimes in the middle of the story, the story tells us about the plot line of the Games/Serials. It will not be interesting if you have not watched or played that serial or game.
  3. The Lady at the end is mysterious. (Spoiler)
  4. System's origin was not explained clearly.
Other than these above, this is a very good novel and you will definitely enjoy it. The comedy was great and... more>> action was thrilling. Overall a decent must-read novel! <<less

I would give this a 4.5 for World Building alone. Transmigrated Fang Qi gets a "Super International Cafe System", that gets him to open an internet video game cafe in an ancient chinese fantasy world. With shiny new virtual reality computers, upgraded top-tier games/films/dramas/social messaging/livestreaming/e-sports gaming/instant noodles and snacks, Fang Qi slowly transforms the ancient societies he is in. Warriors and Cultivators learn skills and techniques through the games. Eventually he opens multiple branches in different realms and the world changes forever.

The story is relaxing and cute/fun. The culture shock... more>> as people learn about the wonders of video gaming are great. Each realm Fang Qi opens a new branch, there is contempt/curiosity, addiction, and triumph as he wins over the new realm. I liked how he opened other branches and his customers would communicate with each other and there was a cross-pollination of ideas. The video games and films were a mix of Asian and Western genres.

However, about 60% through the long novel, I had to stop. He went to another new realm that is based on Western historical fantasy, with elves, knights, organized religions, dwarves, griffons, etc, names like Jessica, Carl, and the aggressive blonde or red-headed natives are heavily contemptuous and dismissive of the barbaric eastern realms they try to invade, until they get beaten back and realize how amazing and cool the orientals (this is the term used in the novel, Fang Qi describes himself as looking like an oriental in this realm) actually are in their flowing robes... When Fang Qi went to this new realm (in a shuttlecraft), there is a very long info-dump about the neighbouring countries, powers, religions, races, etc. I didn't want to read a long complicated Western fantasy novel. The author should have just started a new novel with this setting. By chapter 577, I had spent so many hours invested in the previous ancient Chinese fantasy world that the switchover was too jarring for me. At each new realm, Fang Qi would have a new cast of customers, etc., but at this elf-dwarf-griffin realm, the fourth branch of his store, I'd had enough.

Pros: Fun, light storyline. Great world building. Evil villains are all tamed and taken care of quickly. Instant noodles everywhere. Learning about videogame stories. Old characters and shops are kept in contact with throughout the story, not abandoned. There is no romance, no married couples, no abuse/torture of women. Just lots and lots of happy customers gaming.

Cons: The novel translation is on web novel, where chapters 130 to 944 are locked unless you have money or "stones" to unlock them to read.

Characters are very one-note. Fang Qi has little personality. Reading about customers eating instant noodles every day for years.

If you don't want to read chapters and chapters and chapters about video game/drama storyline and technique and character subclasses, this may not be for you. The description of the customers playing Legend of Sword and Fairy 4 was particularly long and confusing as there were 4 pinyin named lead characters and I couldn't tell them apart. I don't know most of the stories referenced in the novel, so they were new to me.

There is a huge cast of characters and and the names are too much to remember, especially when I can't tell the gender from the pinyin name. The translator could have used titles instead. Rather than Nalan Mingxue, Mo Tianxiang, Nalan Hongwu, Ju Wu, Ju Yi, Ning Bi, it could instead be Miss Nalan Mingwue, Old Mo Tianxiang, Master Nalan Hongwu, Emperor Ji Wu, Princess Ju Yi, Mistress Ning Bi. One young girl is referred to repeatedly as a loli, when young girl could have been used instead.

Once you get used to one set of customers, a new shop opens and I had to learn a bunch of new people and names again. This repeats several times.

One more thing that drives me nuts in cultivation novels is when they don't clearly explain the ranking system. Here's what I could figure out, with the numbers in parentheses.

Warrior Ranks:
Body-Forging (0) Realm
Official Warrior (1) Realm
Master Warrior (2) Realm
Grandmaster Warrior (3) Realm
Ancestrial Warrior (4) Realm
Grand Ancestral Warrior (5) Realm
King (6) Realm
Emperor (7) Realm

Cultivator Realms:
Qi Condensation (1) Realm
Spiritual Spring (2) Realm
Yuan River (3) Realm
Spiritual River (4) Realm
True Lake (5) Realm
Divine Ocean (6) Realm
Divine Palace (7) Realm
Spiritual Void (8) Realm
Ascendance (9) Realm

There are no older female characters, except an old lady who sells buns next to his first shop. Every female is pretty, young, and unmarried. The other characters are young men, middle-aged men, senior men. No mention on whether any of the men are handsome, but some of the older men have grown children - yet their wives are not mentioned, so there are no mothers in this story. I just found it strange that although Fang Qi went to many realms and met many, many people, there were no middle-aged women, senior women, or mothers.

If I ever finish this novel, I'll update my review, but for now I can't see to get past the Western fantasy realm and all its new dungeon and dragons-like characters. <<less

Would rate this web novel 4.5/5 if possible (but since it is not possible, a 5 it is). One of the few web novels that I really like. I like this one because it is refreshing, comical and very different from titles. I like the interaction between MC and his customers and also the reactions of the customers towards the games and stuffs that were introduced. The culture shock and gag are really priceless. The translation for this web novel is also really good. Would recommend this novel to anyone... more>> who would like to enjoy something different from your typical xuanhuan novels. <<less

Sorry bad English.

A 4☆ story for me.

Have u imagine 2 master with their disciples have a match in CS?

... more>> A cultivator crying after playing Silent Hill 2?

Or 2 old-master feel happy after find unique-item in Diablo 2?

A Good and refreshing story, different with other system-admin novel. MC isn't the type who seek trouble, harem seeker idiot, but a calm and mature. No fighting all the way to Ancestor, MC got underestimated but not too much like other novel.

Not all young master idiot in this novel, in fact many of them have a brain, even when..

Spoiler

one of the young master seek trouble in his shop, then MC just kick him out with lightning. Later, he come back with pal, kick out again, come again with his aunt that curious with MC shop kicked again by his aunt this time... and he blacklisted, but still come again to watch, comment, and analysis. But feel really sad bc he cannot play and eat snack.

[collapse]

Face smacking is there but not go-too much, mob/other chara got smacked but they didn't have blood grude with MC.

Romance none.

Funny reaction when cultivator/warrior first-time playing Game immersive-VR.

And...

Spoiler

The shop began it first Esport competition, Diablo 2 (duel) and CS (team) with prize real item from game.

[collapse]

As for what the shop sale...

Spoiler

●snack: haagen-dazs ice cream, sprite, coke, instant noodles, spicy.

●game: Resident Evil 1 (remake VR), Diablo 2 (Remake VR), CS (VR), the Legend of sword and fairy (remake VR), Silent Hill 2 (Remake VR)

●Movie: Resident Evil (super theatre)

●TV series : zhu xian and one more (i forgot the title)

bro, if you like ridiculous novels, full of narrations and povs, and... honestly I have no words to describe it, read this novel.
I'm not a person who likes to make reviews, and long novels are looks with disdain for me, but this ridiculously great and addictive, I'm glad to be on vacation.
Spoiler

post data: the first chapters (more than 30 in reality) are about resident devil, he talks so much about it that it makes you doubt if this was not a novel about the game.
