A confession from the popular girl in the class, Yuzu. It was actually ‘Please pretend to be my lover to solve the triangle relationship in the ‘Riaju’* cliques’! In the class, Yuzu always pretends to be a good girl, but only in front of me, she behaves like a full-blown narcissist which I should’ve found annoying, but……

*リア充’Riaju’ is a term sometimes translated as ‘normies’ but it is actually a term used to refer to ‘people who enjoy life by having proper love life’ usually used by those who are not able to have one in real life.

Honestly, I really do like this. It's cute, funny and the chemistry is great.

Spoiler

My one and only flaw??? After the first volume, they don't date. They know each other's feelings and don't even hide it... yet they don't date.

It's like the author is desperate to just stick with the situation for no reason. After the first volume, there was no reason to not date for real and it'd keep most of the story 99% the same... so it's just annoying.

Almost all of the shorts would work even if they were dating with almost no difference minus some minor lines done for no reason other than to show that they still aren't dating....

What is with this weird aversion so many authors have to just making their leads date???

But that one little flaw is what drops the series from a 5 star to a 4 star....

Pretty interesting premise that leaves a lot of room for development later. Main girl's absolutely full of herself, but she flaunts it around so blatantly to the point that it becomes entertaining in its own ridiculous way. At the very least, it doesn't seem like I'll be getting bored with this story anytime soon.

I don't really get how people are capable of rating a story that has almost no chapters. Unless, it is the case that they have read it in its original language which I doubt.

So far the side stories were funny plus entertaining and the first chapter seems promising. Gotta note that this is a romance novel and therefore while the side stories seem to exist parallel to the main story, they do hint at the relationship between the ML and FL that's bound to happen later in the story.

I'm gonna... more>> keep reading mainly cause it seems interesting and piqued my curiosity. Maybe as we go deeper into the story I'll consider updating the review but for now don't worry about it and give it a try. Maybe it is to your liking or maybe it is not, who knows. <<less

Definitely worth the read, characters actually feel alive and funny. MC is not the cringy beta loner that can't interact with others or something, considerate, honest, and also knows boundaries. FMC is smart, considerate, compromising and reasonable, and also narcisstic, but it's mostly for comedic purposes and funny banter between the two. While I haven't read much of the LN story (because I can't find any MTL of it, if anyone knows do tell the site). The side stories from this story are so wholesome that you'll 100% get diabetes... more>> and ship them to death (I've read the raws of ss from kakuyomu. Com). Sorry if the reviw is not too convincing for y'all. It's my first time writing a review and probably didn't do well enough in conveying it XD. <<less

This is a good read. I have all but stopped reading Japanese novels because they're just bad, or unavailable. The most recent one I read before this one was 100 Things I Don't Know About My Senior, which was also pretty good. There are many aspects to like about this particular story. First and foremost is that the MC is not a brainless social cripple that has the personality of air. Nor is he a philosophical edgelord (although there were some monologues like that). He is a surprisingly dynamic character.... more>> He has a reasonable personality (by which I mean one that might exist in real life) and I enjoyed reading about him. Same with the FMC. The interactions between the two click very well throughout the story. Now the story does have its flaws as well. I personally do not like the usage of Japanese high school rom-com cliches. Especially so on how much weight is put on high school popularity. But that pretty much fades away by the second volume, so I eventually had no problems with that. The other flaws are basically flaws that come with being a Japanese light novel. Those are still tolerable, but it requires me to shut off part of my brain, which is fine for the most part. Overall, this novel is worth your time. <<less

I really enjoyed this story with one caveat - the side stories and the main story are in two separate novels

Most of the dating and romance progression are in the side stories, and it was distracting to have to switch between the two novels to get the entire story which dropped my review two stars

If the side stories and the main novel were together and in order this would be a five star novel. The plot is fun, the characters are fun, the translation is OK

Not sure if I can... more>> recommend <<less

The pace is moderate and honestly pretty nice. Author doesn't overdo female lead's narcisim and the MC isn't a complete wimp. There's also signs of development, I love it.

the side stories are also wholesome but contain the same bickering, I hope to see this novel fully translated!

The story is absolutely wonderful, I loved every second of reading it. The pretend lovers trope is pulled in a bit of a unique way, especially after the end of volume 1, and I adore the interactions between the two leads.

I like that most conflict in this story isn't contrived from unending love triangles or harem shenanigans or misunderstandings, but from the simple fact that these characters are very flawed and make flawed decisions that fit their personalities. That, and that everyone has their own agendas or ways of doing... more>> things that naturally would cause conflict (especially the main character being someone who just enjoys being alone a lot. He reminded me a lot of Yugami from "Yugami Has No Friends", just a guy who is well adjusted and doesn't need nor want friends in order to be happy).

Overall, this was a worthy read, and is refreshing for anyone who wants to get away from your typical romance stories filled with unnecessary love triangles, badly written characters, or even more loathsome, harems (I shudder just from the thought alone).

Spoiler

While I'm here, I also want to share my own personal highlight of the story. I've noticed many people disliking volume 2, but I personally found volume 2 to be the best of the three for its very different conflict. A girl from Izumi's past shows up, but she is not intended to be a third wheel love triangle plot device. Rather, she's a friend of his who was left behind and thrown into limbo, the act of which hurt both her and Izumi. It's refreshing to see a female friend introduced who truly is only ever meant to be a friend, and the resolution of her and Izumi's arc is quite impactful, as I don't often see stories like this broach the topic of the ending of close friendships, starting over, and moving forward and positively.

Sweet story that doesn't rely on so many awful stereotypes!
A lot of romcoms rely on very basic premise: s*upid loner boy did a superficially awesome thing and girl inevitably falls for him right that instant. Then their friends have to endure their sugary sweet interactions as the girl call him baka for not realizing what's going on for the next 4 volumes. Interspersed is some ultra heavy drama involving gruesome past that explains why girl would falls for him, and a couple extra girls that yearn for protagonist's attention

This... more>> is not that. Their relationship is wholesome, the only drama is friendship issues, and the sidestory helps fill in the story. Protagonist isn't some loser, he just likes being alone, he actually brings something to the table and not some inexplicable OP big brain skills. Nobody has a dark history, it's just a story of normal people doing normal people things (at least, within fiction limits)

If you're tired with all the basic romcoms and want to take a break by reading something that doesn't suck, this fits the bill <<less

Undoubtedly, one of my most fav romcom LN yet. No annoying factors from sub characters. Not overuse cliche stuffs finding elsewhere. Good big points to entertain until the end.

I would say this could give some Oregairu vibe but in a bit more fast paced and seductive.

Can't wait for Vol.2!

This was absolutely pleasant to read, I had a lot of fun reading both the main story line as well as the ss stories. If you are looking for fluffy and diabetes, read the ss, you would be amazed.

The main story contains some nice plot developments, drama. It really comes a long way to show just how different this MC is from your typical dense MC from other Novels which I find to be very interesting. The dynamic between the main couple changes overtime as they soften up to each... more>> other and the climax of volume 1 was so satisfying to read as it shows all characters in the story are not just their for show, they are there for proper development.

Overall, the story is not cringy, the main couple is adorable, and characters are actually relatable to real life. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a fluffy rom com but with good plot development.

Last but not least, thank you to Chocolala and Seiryuu for translating the first volume, I am really looking forward to the second volume which I've heard to be as good as the first one.

ps: if you guys want volume 2 to be out asap, support the translators, donate them through Ko-fi so they can continue! <<less

That was really nice RomCom story about two quirky highschoolers who pretend they going out with each other. All characters are likeable and, most important, ML and FL have great chemistry between them - each of them are interesting as individual characters but their reallyshine when they banter with each other.

I really don't understand the high ratings for this light novel - I keep wondering if folks are reading a different novel than what is actually posted here. The story is disjointed and not well told; the side stories are distracting; the characters are immature at best, including in particular the s*upidity of the "fake couple" aspect; and the female lead is just entirely unpleasant in my view. This is just a mediocre light novel with little to recommend it. I I can literally recite over 100 romance light novels... more>> on this site I would recommend before this one. <<less

It's pretty good, I can't remember the last time I properly got into a light novel like this. Might even be the first time.

The story and plot progression is sensible, it doesn't go crazy and you can tell where it can go if you think about it. But you don't need to, just enjoy the interactions and see where the story leads you. It's a down to earth plot that mainly just focuses on the characters and how they feel about each other, and that's totally fine.

Personally both the male... more>> and female lead I wouldn't particularly say that I liked them, nor am I exactly rooting for them. But the way it's written is not overbearing, it's gentle and lets you read just fine even if you're not that invested. I don't how else to really describe it, it's just a novel that feels good to read.

It's good enough that I can be generous and give it 5 stars. I'd say give it a try, it's a nice romance novel to read that isn't trying to be bigger than what it actually is. <<less

You know, judging by the synopsis, this looks like it's generic and is the type of story that would get stale after a while after they've moved on from the initial concept of the novel. But it's surprisingly a nice romcom.

I also like how they handled the "break up" by continuing the relationship because people would get suspicious of how quickly it lasted, but you know these dorks enjoy each other's company and would just like the relationship last longer. Oh how I adore this ship

Looking at the premise, it looks like a story about a pretty girl full of herself or a spineless loser, but no, they proved me wrong lmao. It's a pretty chill SoL. Good on the author for not introducing Diney-level type of antagonists to disrupt this cozy and warm romcom

It's weird to say, but this narcissistic cutie and a self aware loner bounce off each other well. They have great chemistry and developments feel natural. <<less

I'm really recommend this reading to you guys. First of all, because of the excellent main male MC. Although he is revealed in full his glory only by the fourth chapter. Someone says that the ending is a bit disappointing. But for me, this is just the first steps for becoming a real couple for those two.
PS Hope this novel will become even more popular.

Although the expectation of the continuation wears me out, because guys decided to translate all the side stories before starting the volume two translation. After... more>> all, there are as many as 45 ss (including three extras)... <<less

While the scenario of having fake relationship is by no mean original, this story executes it very well and it was a very enjoyable read. The story is solid, the author does not make use of cliches and I particularly like the fact that details not related to the main story are only mentioned in passing.

Yuzu (FMC) asks Yamato (MC) to be her pretend boyfriend in order to achieve a certain purpose. What I like is that Yuzu isn't just using Yamato. She has prepared a befitting reward for him... more>> to do the job and makes a real effort to befriend him and get to know him better as a part of this fake relationship and makes it a worthwhile experience for him too. Her narcissistic comments are basically just friendly banter and she isn't acting high and mighty at all.

Yamato isn't your average cringy loner who doesn't know how to interact with people either. While he's certainly a loner, he knows how to read the mood and play along with Yuzu's jokes.

I really like the chemistry between the two and look forward to future developments.

Note: The main LN focuses more on school life drama rather than the sweetness between the two. There are scenes where you'll scream "cute!" but it won't give you diabetes.

Update: Finished volume 2. It is just as great as the first volume. <<less

I like this novel so far, the main characters' flirting (without realizing that they are flirting) kind of reminds me of Ending Maker. They have to "pretend" to date each other and end up getting closer in the process.

The series was amazing till volume 2. Kinda feel like volume 3 regresses back a lot

Spoiler

I specially disliked the confession for various reasons

[collapse]

The author could've made.5 volumes to show the aftermath but instead decided on short stories that take place before the end of novel which is uncharacteristic for romcom authors.

Regardless a good short read
